Is IT still worth pursuing in 2026.
>muh A.I and layoffs
Yeah yeah yeah. I'm aware. But this is something that I have actual interest in. I'm 23 years old. I pivoted different career prospects, from Electrician to Electricial Engineering to HVAC to joining the Costal Guard. I'm just all fucked up right now, but in the end IT is the one thing that keeps popping up in my mind. Are there any IT anons, cybersecurity or basic bitch tech support, can you give me your thoughts?

>It's a fake useless job
bait?
>but probably pays well
it seems to, generally, yeah
might be hard to break into, but probably not much harder than other IT at this point, and seems like some of the more fulfilling/straightforward work with less bullshit
corpos tend to underspend on cybersecurity, they see it as a waste of money... until a breach happens & they see just how costly it is
or atleast that's how it was for a couple decades, maybe it's different now

i guess so, but that's pedantic for the purposes of OP's thread, and you could probably apply similar shit to a lot of jobs
doesn't necessarily change the jobs being valuable or useful, definitely not in this case
i get ur point though, is true..

(Most cyber security engineers only run DAST and SAST and that's it, they don't know much, and even those that don't, don't actually do much, you can still make money though, but most of the job is to write reports)

A fairly advanced thing you could get into is Bioinformatics - basically coding software for biological data.
Jobs are from modeling bird/insect flight patters for MilTec companies to improve drones, to modeling proteins, to human genetics, to bioengineering new life.
The pay is good, but requires more than basic IT knowledge.

IT is either comfy and you get to hang out all day or you are losing your shit and want to dome yourself over a cascade of bullshit not working. I kind of regret doing IT mainly because my passion is history and literature. You have to be autistic about computers and want to study certs everyday if you want any chance of getting far in this field. The days of going to school for CS and immediately getting a job for 100k a year are over, now you have to show you are better than the 5000 other people in your area applying for the same job. I have a bachelors in CIS and it took me several hundred applications and a year working as a computer repair technician to get my current job which pays 20 an hour after taxes. Only do IT if you really, really like troubleshooting software and networking. If you just study it for the salaries they promise you than you are SOL. Look up the CSmajor subreddit if you want insight into how the current job market is, nearly everybody there wants to kill themselves lmao.
