Yeah, kinda. It's more that they can mask. If breeding for tameness like Belyaev did with his foxes, raccoons would be an enormous fucking challenge specifically because they can fake being tame. Were anyone to try, they'd have a hard go of it. But I want them to try. I want a truly domesticated raccoon.

The smarter the animal the easier it is to domesticate.

Damn this just unlocked a memory of when my dad shot a raccoon and then discovered it had babies. He felt bad and built a cage in the house for them. He gave them one of grammy's fur hats to snuggle with and bottle fed them

>>5121278 I don't think they're too smart as much as we don't have enough of a use for them. Best usage for a domesticated racoon is just a worse manual laborer. With minimum wage where it is it's not worth training a coon to flip burgers when a human can already do it for the same wage.

>>5127802 a stupid little 15 second clip isn't going to tell you about what kind of long term care they need. raccoons need a lot...A LOT of mental stimulation. much more than the most neurotic border collie. if not they will tear their dwelling apart. the only way i can see them getting domesticated is via inbreeding and severely reducing their intelligence.
