Are raccoons too smart to be domesticated?

they have the same amount of neurons as dogs. but they would just be bred for warfare anyway

Yeah, kinda.
It's more that they can mask.
If breeding for tameness like Belyaev did with his foxes, raccoons would be an enormous fucking challenge specifically because they can fake being tame.
Were anyone to try, they'd have a hard go of it.
But I want them to try. I want a truly domesticated raccoon.

The smarter the animal the easier it is to domesticate.

No. The average human is just too dumb for them.

I think we should live in harmony with the wonderful critters, not necessarily domescate them. It would be all kinds of sad for there to be triple XL SMASHED and LAMMED raccs :(

Yeah I agree. They are very polite creatures already, no need for domestication.

Why is the little man flashing jazz hands at me?

Damn this just unlocked a memory of when my dad shot a raccoon and then discovered it had babies. He felt bad and built a cage in the house for them. He gave them one of grammy's fur hats to snuggle with and bottle fed them

I for one would like to believe in an army of mutant raccoons.

I don't think they're too smart as much as we don't have enough of a use for them.
Best usage for a domesticated racoon is just a worse manual laborer. With minimum wage where it is it's not worth training a coon to flip burgers when a human can already do it for the same wage.

Brainmogged by red pandas.

Did they grow into adults? Did he release them back in the wild?
>>
>>5125722
They're all superfamily Musteloid so it doesn't really matter. Red pandas used to be grouped with raccoons.
>>
>>5125596
I would pay 20 dollars to watch a raccoon flip a burger for me.

a stupid little 15 second clip isn't going to tell you about what kind of long term care they need. raccoons need a lot...A LOT of mental stimulation. much more than the most neurotic border collie. if not they will tear their dwelling apart. the only way i can see them getting domesticated is via inbreeding and severely reducing their intelligence.
>>
>>5121278
As someone who has gotten wild raccoons used to me, and lived with them. all i can say is... what is this domesticated nonsense term? kek.
>>
>>5129234
animals that have longterm urban niches are bad for domestication because they've already got an instinct to rummage through human artifacts
>>
>>5121278
I always thought it was cool how raccoons can use their front legs as arms.
