I used to like to use this site regularly to communicate and recieve feedback; even if a thread 404ed i could still browse where it was left before it went dark, now I cant do it anymore. If I go back to a thread that was 404 I cant look at it or save it or anything now the page refreshes and the code advances. Not what to do with the 8+ years of 404 threads but hopefully ai stylography will improve enough to provide insite into 404 culture?

Look at this thread on /a/. Then, relook at this thread in the archive.
The thread and its spam have been up for 3 days, and instead of the spam getting deleted, nearly all posts criticizing the spam are getting deleted.
Literally what has happened to /a/? I remember the quality of the board going down in recent years, but 2026 seems to have completely taken a nosedive.

most things related to anime seem to have taken a huge nosedive in quality since covid. i hadn't been paying attention so i only recently realised but it feels like nowadays nobody cares enough to maintain any level of decent conversation anywhere (which is sad because i already thought the 2010s and especially post-2016/17 era was shit, but now it's on another level).

attempt to grey goo the internet into managable chunks then implement real ID isn't too far off from the mediocre scheme of a stereotypical b class beurocratic villain.
>>
>>24490474
think about it
1. flood it with normies
2. create a problem and fearmonger it
3. advertise your solution as the only one
(bonus it it doesn't involve self moderation or proper parenting)
4. hope people willingly hand over their freedom
(lol lmao they expected americans to do this)

You've just now discovered that Precure threads are home to concentrated autism. Go through the archives, you'll see allegations in past happenings threads of jannies being in on it, of mods being in on it, discord raiders, proxyfags, the works. Everything you could hate about a late-stage general appears to be circling that.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>24490854
Yeah but back in 2013-2025, all that stuff was a joke. Jannies weren't actually "in on it". It was just a stupid conspiracy theory that people joked about.
Now it's actually real though. I'm seeing it first hand. The spammer's garbage is just staying up for days while people who report the spam are getting banned, people complaining about the spam are getting banned, and actual on-topic posts that try to ignore the spam get deleted while the spam is getting heavily promoted and samefagged by "proxies" of posts happening in less-than-30-second intervals. I've seen entire communities on /a/ move to /ghost/ on desu just to avoid the jannies. It's getting completely out of control.
For instance, here are two very clear posts of a janitor ADMITTING he's a janitor on /a/ despite it being against the rules to do so:
>>>/a/288648125
>Only someone goes in and deletes some posts. I know I'm not.
Heavily implies he has janny privileges to delete posts. No posts in the spam thread get deleted.
>>>/a/288665777
>I enjoy you guys laughing at him trying to flip the script again on Minori, but please keep to posting Mirai, or serious posts about precure and the upcoming episodes.
Avatarfags as a Precure character. Tells everyone to follow the rules. Within seconds, multiple posts in the previous thread and current thread disappear. And now, the thread is being flooded with anti-Minori comments again with sporadic deletions.
This is what we're having to deal with on /a/ now. Instead of actually addressing the real problem and deleting the spambot, they're deleting posts that talk about the spambot.
>>
>>24491447
>The spammer's garbage is just staying up for days while people who report the spam are getting banned,
This happened like 5 years to the /vg/ general I used to frequent.. I don't think it's a greater conspiracy beyond the mods/jannies just being too lazy to check out the thread and see the context surrounding reports. Or maybe it is and they're all just spiteful faggots that don't care about generals not turning into absolute cesspits.

i've been interested in this stuff for quite a few years now, maybe about as long as the guy in the video, and yeah it's cool. funny seeing some of the websites i'd already came across in the video.
main problem i have with the movement as a whole is the hyperfocus on nostalgia as opposed to actually creating something with artistic or practical intent, which means most of them are just "oh huh, that's fun" compilations that you'll forget about soon after. it's a very noncommittal type of hobby that works to remind people of the internet as a place of fun beyond pure necessities, but i don't think is all that appealing for the average person looking to break away from the machine considering sites to play games, view art, and talk to people like newgrounds already exist outside of the mainstream internet. why not go there instead would be the question i'd ask, if i wasn't personally interested in this.
if there were more serialised works—webcomics, videos series, etc—that people were okay with making without needing to be the next big thing, that would be more compelling, but ultimately there are too few avenues to homestead your way to a new e-community nowadays, especially with the lack of ad services that people would use like project wonderful directing people to new sites w/o needing word of mouth or direct linking.
there was a thread on /gd/ that was unfortunately killed by the hack and never revived that was dedicated to showing old internet pics and talking about some of this stuff, you might find it interesting: https://archived.moe/gd/thread/445831/

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt there as I can't stand /v/ even on a good day and never go there. I'm sure there are boards where the bot crackdown has made some improvements but the boards I go to are much worse than they were 4 or 5 years ago across the board.

>>24495164
Wait, nevermind, I think I get it now. So for every post that exists on the site with a unique IP, that is added to the tally of 'current users'. This doesn't include posts/threads made by the same user. So the exact current amount of people browsing is unknown, but as of right now, there are about 230,000 users across the website with posts visible.
>>
>>24495183
yeah basically, but with IP resets and stuff i'm sure even that number isn't going to be that accurate. moot said there that 30k were browsing at any given time, now it'll probably be lower but only rapeape and desuwa know by how much. until someone asks RA on twitter, then maybe he'll tell (*~*)

Samefagging has been an issue ever since dynamic IPs existed. We could go do it right now. But I miss having unique IP counters in the threads, it did make for a more genuine atmosphere, it felt like more anons were in the thread with you and it was more lively. I'm not sure why they removed it, maybe because of samefagging but also maybe because of bots.
>>
>>24495308
same, but i assume they would say it ruins the anonymous nature of the site to know when someone new comes along. or something. i don't really get the whole "people were being too autistic with the IP count" thing considering all the ID boards essentially were unchanged by that, especially /pol/ which is still the main draw to this site for most people.

In hindsight, it reminds me of our retreat to /trash/ after the mods glassed /qa/ from orbit. I feel some responsibility for that, seeing as I was a /trash/man at the time and helped fight attempts to take us to better locales sooner out of some misguided love for that board. Just needed a little more time to appreciate the blight that it is on the site. There was a playplace at the local mall for really little kids that looked just like left, that green carpet, blank wall, and mirrored pillar. Interestingly, I have seen tranny/shemale art of Mario, Sonic, Bubsy, Spyro and even Gex, but never of Klonoa (unless you are a subhuman who thinks crossdressing equals to being a tranny), which is weird since his cute dream-like aesthetic is exactly what internet-addicted troons love.

Give /b/ every other board's feature (spoilers, code blocks, LaTex, /jp/'s mona font, fortunes, dices, GR15 exception) and new ones (<orangetext, optional country/gender/pony flags from other boards, the ability for OP to delete posts like in 2ch, any other thing that gives people a reason to post there).

This gave me an idea for the next april fools event:
>event begins with /pol/'s memeflags stopping working to troll memeflaggots
>later, citing some bullshit identity verification law, geo flags are enabled site-wide and everyone gets a global ID that persists between threads and boards
>the search page is updated to support searching by ID, and clicking on someone's ID opens the search results with every post that ID has made
>as an additional twist, users have a tiny chance of making a post with someone else's flag and ID, and the history has a tiny chance of showing posts made other people under that poster's flag+ID
>passfags have the option to use one of /lgbt/ or /mlp/'s flags to hide their flag, but they are limited to X posts per hour or have a small chance of losing their memeflag when they post

Nah?
Probably already mentioned but apparently youtube pushed out a new update that doxxes you if you forget to remove the tracking portion of the link you share.
Does anyone know if this new "feature" works for links posted prior to the update? Youtube won't let you disable this unless you live in a country that requires them by law to allow you to disable it.
>>
>>
>>24509064
No I know the =si thing has been a thing for a while. Im just now finding out they pushed an update that shows your profile if you happen to share a link with the tracker in the url field. I always make sure to not include the tracking portion in links, however I didn't always know youtube added trackers, hence why I asked if the new "feature" applies to older links. Im going to assume it does.
