Dead Board? Did you guys manage to book any hotel rooms before they sold out? My friends and I managed to snag 2 at the Westin and 1 at the AC.

I got unlucky with the queue, despite position 1674 when it opened all the hotels I wanted were sold out. Luckily one of the friends got an insane lucky 150 position and secured a JW Marriot double room

>Dead Board?
Not trying to doom post or drama post, but my 2c.
Post covid it's just not the same, we had fun but meetups in post COVID are kinda more of a "hey hello how you been..." irl meet from maybe the discord gulls are in. More of a formality and drinking event where it's easier to type shit out than anything. Covid changed a lot of people in the scene, a lot of drama in the past got reheated when everyone was stuck with cabin fever, people either just want to straight up do their own thing or already know exactly who they want to hang out with.
Gull meets in the past were due to no real good central way to organize meets with anything but reddit/facebook and those faggy groups, 4chan offered a good fast pass to chill people who liked a lot of the things floating around the internet both offensive and non offensive. Last gull meetup I went to had some people so obviously pol thirsty need 'con gf for tradwife' or want to ask about polshit in a non-ironic way. It wasn't a one off either, it's just not viable to focus on cgl meets when all the other options exist.
Keep in mind this board was basically made so moot could promote his Otakon shit.

>LAX has among some of the cheapest flights around next to vegas.
>he doesn't know about the K-shaped economy
ur already ngmi if you unironically think this. You're either legitimately retarded or part of the Upper K.
Flights into LA and LV are amongst some of the most EXPENSIVE flights in the country because of the runway tax and surge pricing. This especially so during "major events".
>guess what AX, the largest anime con in the country, is considered

I travel in and out of LAX for work... where are you flying from florida or maine on spirit or frontier? Not to be mean here but if you're flying to AX and not in the area I expect you are aware to drop about 1000 in hotel, flight, and basic eating. Sorry you're new to CGL
>>
>>10967305
you can try flying into one of other los angeles area airports such as burbank, or long beach, etc.
You might end up spending more on transportation to get to your hotel than you'd save even if the tickets are cheaper though.
If you fly into Burbank btw, you might potentially save some money on transport. there's 2 metrolink stations within walking distance, one north, one south. They'll take you into LA union station for 6 bucks, witch is about 5 miles from the convention center. You have to time your arrival right tho

Honestly the world is completely different. No one wants to socialize anymore because it's to big of a risk. And I can't blame them. Every single group I join is nothing but high school teir drama and grooming. 4chan groups even worse on that front. Literally every 4chan group is just a bunch of bullies trying to trick other people in to getting fucked by their lolcow pets and victim blaming so they don't have to take accountability.

What other guests do you think they'll get?
So far they got the Witch Hat Atelier and BlueLock mangaka, but I don't read either of those (good news for their fans tho). Anyone else noteworthy I'm missing? Thinking of going again this year after a long absence since I live walking distance.

a lot of artist alley stays there since they have to park in the convention structure every day anyway and it's the cheapest real hotel. it's probably already sold out.
i don't care about any hotel facilities during ax so i'd rather just do a residence or a holiday inn or even a motel, but i can see the appeal for people needing a place to chill with others after working for 12 hours.
>>
i'll be there like i was last year assuming all goes to plan. i might get employed between that time though so we'll see but my badge was shipped out today so should be ready.
for the few that encountered me last year i was that guy in lounge 21 with a hoodie and sunglasses on.
i intend to do the same this year give or take. most of last year i helped people get to their lines, was surprised how many people even bothered to approach me despite looking like the fuck her right in the pussy guy
>>
>>
>>10970876
one year there was a nazi deadpool, uniform and all. they forced him to take parts of it off. luckily i got a photo before he was forced to kneel
regardless, it was entirely accidental that i looked like the fuck her right in the pussy guy. i only realized after the fact. but at least i was helpful, people appreciated that i knew my way around the con and the lines while volunteers and staff didnt. one guy ended up at the blue archive stuff totally out of the convention and i walked him all the way into the venue so youd be surprised how bad it could really be
meetup wise i want to do more of those given the only turnout last year was near the end.

In what universe is it more fun sitting in a car for hours and then paying hundreds if not thousands of dollars to stand for 8 hours and catch a glimpse between the autistic sea of phones of some plastic surgery ants lipsyncing on stage while two obese idiots to your left and right, spilling into your assigned seat like a spririt airlines flight( rip), scream incoherent schizo babble directly into your ears.
Concerts are my special interest, i love them, but kpop is nowhere on the level of Anime Expo even if AX is an anxiety inducing claustrophobic nightmare.

I'm considering signing up but my preconception tells me I already know exactly what I'll get if I do.
If I instead went and tried to be the least likeable candidate, and someone still managed to befriend/date me, would that be a good or bad result because at this point I'm almost wondering what constitutes success in this.

All 4 days as Mei Kinosaki. Pretty excited since it's my first commissioned cosplay, and my first time going to AX
>>
>>10971046
>my first time going to AX
if you care about something, make sure you're hours early
wear comfy shoes or bring a spare pair.
do not blindly trust what the staff tells you unless they're industry.
and stay away from the westin.
>>
>>10971040
Same as every year but change the shirt each day
>>10971046
>first time
i remember my first time. i was not prepared for how fucked my feet would get. i strongly suggest listening to >>10971063 on this one. the staff part especially because you have people who have been going to these for over ten years now and will help significantly better and faster on the spot than any volunteer or staff. unless its the people giving the 18+ wristbands who just need ID and give you a wristband, just ask some chucklefuck for directions. if theyre competent they will help. like i said here >>10970840 a lot of my time last year was helping others to their lines and just chatting since may as well be in the line until the stuff im prepping for is up. directions and where lines are/arent is critical. when to line up is also critical. you may need to show up hours ahead of time to have any chance of success, but some you can just drop on in casually and you'll be fine. its really dependent on which room or location it will be in. the bigger the room, the more time ahead you need to be there baking in the sun.
obviously be sensible with who you ask or trust, but if you spot me and my retarded ass i will gladly help you figure shit out and even help you plan it. the anime expo app sucks ass too but if you want to have a todo list style with times that's a way to go about it, just dont listen to line prep advice on it. as for cosplay i wish you luck
>>
>>10971063
>and stay away from the westin
Thank you for the advice, although I'm not sure what the drama with the westin is?

I think I'm ready for the walking marathon! I'm pretty social, so I won't hesitate to ask around if I'm confused. I'll probably be posting here and on the AX discord if I get bored and want to meet more people
>>
>>10971073
>I think I'm ready for the walking marathon!
I've been doing this for over 10 years and I'm still not ready no matter how much I prep or how much weight I lose. Your feet will be annihilated, and not in a fun way.

ax is different because of the constant turning and stopping and shifting and standing in the same spot. it's like if disneyland had more 5x more people but it was only 10 main streets stacked side by side, and it's 4 days and there's no places to sit down.
>>
>>
>>
>>10971098
Those pics are misleading because they are taken before the exhibit hall/etc opens for the day and those people are all waiting. Once everything opens those crowds disperse and you can walk around. It's still crowded but not shoulder-to-shoulder like that for the most part.
Anyway as a local my recommendation to newcomers is to get away from the con for lunch/dinner/whatever if you have time. The immediate area around LACC is pretty desolate, but Pico Metro station is right across the street and if you ride one stop to 7th St. Metro there's a ton of affordable places to eat including a mall with a food court and a Target where you can get any necessities you forgot to bring.
>>
>>10971175
that's the west hall entrance during the middle of the con, not the south hall. you can see it on the signs. it's just a tremendous traffic jam due to the difficulty of going outside that year.
and it just so happens that the back of the convention center is currently under massive construction. it's questionable how much of the mezzanine will be accessible as they demolished the bridge already over pico rivera and i haven't seen any updates. the map already suggests it's not available, meaning things will get messy.

Hope to run into you! I was thinking about bringing my prop Mondragon but decided not to because of logistics, I did create a prop C96 and some stick grenades so I could still have some props, I should be wearing it Saturday if everything goes to plan
>>
>>
>>10971355
if you're on a flight you can often just put something like that in a poster tube and no one will really question it. and it doubles as protection for your posters you will get from the con. but carrying a rifle around all day inside anime expo is just stupid and asking for trouble.
>>
>>10971375
If you see a Hispanic guy with an undercut haircut and mustache its me! Ive had the misfortune of mistaking random people for seagulls, its super awkward and im such a sperg it dosent help lol
>>10971380
I'm not trying to spend more money on this flight for another checked bag lol, also that's another reason I'm not bringing it is because 1.) I don't want any tards breaking my prop with how crowded it is and 2) Cali is a libtard hellhole and they might give me shit for it, with the C96 its smaller and much more discrete
>>
>>10971395
>Cali is a libtard hellhole
i regret trying to help you out because you seem intent on blaming your tism on irrelevant culture war bullshit. which makes me glad you decided to ignore and misunderstand everything i said.

as someone thats lived in california for my whole life, i can attest to it being tremendously shittier than it used to be, which says a lot considering it was still pretty bad.
its expensive to exist here, in every capacity. food, gas, housing, and pay isnt enough as your soul is crushed. i still see people walking around doublemasking for covid still, voluntarily. the smash and grab crime is so common and unpunished.
on the bright side, its LA, and norcal is significantly worse in all these ways.
i try my best to not give a fuck for these problems and just want to live my life day to day, but thats pretty goddamn hard when gas is over $6.00/gallon
>>
I understand that you've wasted your lives being poltards, regurgitating brainwashed talking points but it has nothing to do with this board or thread. if you feel so strongly about bringing up irrelevant things across the internet, why not become an expert on the topic instead of being a mouthpiece for some cucked billionaire.
anyway it looks like lacc upgraded to wifi 7 very recently so hopefully it's fully stress tested and we have no lag/disconnects trying to get a million payments through in the exhibit hall day 1. i miss when we used to have e3 to be the guinea pig for new infrastructure going into con season.

you must be very excited about today's announcement. congrats.

AX is my favorite con because I can sit in cool panels all day from sunup to 2am, walk back to my parking lot at work a block away to sleep and shower, then head back for 4 days and not even think about that im on the wrong side of 30 and none of my friends go to cons anymore.
>>
>>10972002
That's me with every large convention that has a light rail stop within a block or two and cheaper hotels along its route.
Anything i have to buy an overpriced hotel or rideshare for is automatically a shit tier convention.
