Giving up pornography and fap. I've been able to nofap for about 2 weeks before but always struggle to go much longer. I've been addicted to porn and masturbation every single day since I was 12. Gonna follow the advice of the desert fathers and fast seriously. They're right, it's very hard to get horny if you're hungry, your body is thinking about immediate needs like that first.
Today I've just had oatmeal and an orange for lunch. I'll have a couple of fishsticks and a mini frozen pizza for dinner. For reference I usually eat 3k calories a day cuz I'm a big lardo.

Lent isn't conciliatory, it's an act done to release the soul from the moors of modern society. To remind you that life is more than meat. Lent is also a time to reflect on your life and to bring yourself closer to the scripture. Eating meat (or not) has nothing to do with what Lent is actually about.

On Thursday night, I'll cook and peel a bunch of hard boiled eggs, so I can make a big cold batch of olive-egg salad. I love briny pimpento stuffed and kalamata olives every few bites. They were out of green onions today at the grocery, so it'll be celery, red onion and mayo. I usually make the recipe like deviled eggs, bit of paprika, dry mustard, cayenne.

This is 'spiritual fasting'.
Its more of a symbolic thing rather than trying to reap physical health benefits from fasting.
So in that context nitpicking about fish being a meat or the insinuations of OP pic is irrelevant.
>>
I'm going to try and abstain from meat throughout all of Lent (well, except on Sundays). On Fridays I'm going to go even further and abstain from seafood, as well, and eat only vegetarian/vegan.
This isn't even the most hardcore thing I've ever done. One year I gave up coffee. That was a motherfucker.

I don't believe in silly old superstitions about gods or monsters or whatever religious nonsense forbids you to eat whatever food you want.
Have fun with your self-imposed deprivation, fools.

What's a "twisted atheist"? LOL, someone so *weird* and wild and crazy that they don't believe in skyman and sky cake?
Wow.
But I'm with you on the distinctions. Fish should count as meat. "God" got that wrong. Unless it was, you know, part of his "plan".

You're not actually a good person if the only thing stopping you from hurting others is fear of divine punishment. Plenty of religious people get caught as pedophiles and want to engage in child marriage anyway.

Ok, now that the the Catholics had their fun, today starts Orthodox lent.
3 days of no food, followed by 40 days of strict veganism with no oil or alcohol either, one meal a day that does not equal a regular full meal, then 3 more days of no food at all.
Genuinely, oil free veganism is harder than regular veganism because boiling becomes one of the few means of actually cooking. Decently fun to figure out workarounds, kinda like how in young adulthood you don't have a full kit of kitchen tools and you're too poor for a lot of ingredients so you make random food.

Doing (moslty) no solid food again. I'll take a glass of milk with a spoonful of yogurt and a scoop of powdered meal replacement, and since my powder uses animal protein I'll go with whey on Friday instead. If I get really hungry later I'll take a second milk drink or maybe a beer. Taking a daily multivitamin to prevent malnutrition, and to prevent refeeding I'm allowing solid food on Sundays only. The sheer amount of free time this has opened up has made me very aware of how prone I am to "bored eating" fast food and prepackaged junk just as an excuse to get out of the house, and it almost seems better to not eat at all if I'm not going to make something wholesome. It's not like there's any danger of starving in a first world country, after all.

fasting is in the bible and the new testament was even composed into a single book until the 300s after 300 years of church history made by the church fathers and apostles. also who do you think the bible came from. this is a surface level protestant take that follows no logic and common sense

pre 1966 lent was one meal a day every day except sundays and no meat every day except sundays. The rule was changed to better account for people whose work is manual labor.
Fish has never been available in abudance like the flesh meats chicken, beef, and pork. so there was never a possibility of people gorging on fish enough to receive sustenance . you are a typical ignorant atheist that doesnt know anything.

Giving up sugar.
Should have thought about it a bit more in advance since confronted with should/should't quite often, decided fruit is ok. But honey and fruit juice while with the letter of the law doesn't seem to follow my own self imposed standereds of the spirit of the law

>isn't even in the bible
>>When you fast, don’t make yourselves look sad like the hypocrites. They put a look of suffering on their faces so that people will see they are fasting. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get. So when you fast, wash your face and make yourself look nice. Then no one will know you are fasting, except your Father, who is with you even in private. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you

this makes no mention of giving up meat for a month, anon
Historically people have fasted for tons of different reasons, this isn't directly connected to lent. It even sounds like it's referring to a full fast where you literally eat nothing.
>>
>>21901882
Of course not, lent is to mimic the 40 days and nights Jesus fasted in the desert.
If Anon is specifically talking about the catholic tradition of fasting, of course not it came after, I assumed Anon was just talking about fasting in general since to assert the former just seems very, yeah no shit. Christmas also isn't in the bible, doesn't mean we should't celebrate it.

no he didnt he said the opposite
>What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them
>About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. 13 Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14 “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
15 The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.

I'm following the Orthodox fasting precepts, so I'm basically giving up everything. Lunch was rice and lentils.
>>21892610
Prots are incapable of proper interpretation of the Word, they lack the theological framework and language to correctly discern the meaning of the Bible they do so desperately appeal to

Breakfast was light, just a bowl of oatmeal and coffee. Lunch was some Ramen with a few veggies added, and for dinner we just did pizza. I try not to snack or make the servings large, it sort of defeats the point, I think.
Next week I think I'll make some veggie quesedilla for dinner.

i was originally giving up dairy since im pescatarian and i am a sucker for cheese.
i later realized all my on campus dining options as a pescatarian that would give me nutrients were none and decided to just fast for all of lent.

what's with all the egg eaters in the lent thread?
you're not supposed to do that until the end of lent, which is why easter eggs are a thing.
are there denominations that hold a different view on this, or is it just a personal rule?

but abstaining from eating eggs during lent and having a feast with eggs at easter is a catholic tradition.
not taking religious practices seriously is also a catholic tradition though.
t. german catholic. pic related is a traditional german lent food called Maultasche, often nicknamed Herrgottsbescheißerle (cutesy form of god swindler), because it contains meat, but the meat is minced finely and mixed with green herbs and stuffed inside essentially a big ravioli in an effort to make it look like a vegetarian dish in the eyes of the lord.
i can't in good conscience make fun of jews for their sabbat switches and similar tricks when my people do things like this
>>
>>21909519
Ha that’s some good info my grandmother was from that same region as your dish but was so strict about keeping Lenten rules I’m not at all surprised she left it in the old world and it’s my first time hearing about it
