When's the last time you had a classic Aussie meat pie?

Never, thankfully.

About two weeks ago
>>
I’ve never had one
>>

Aussie food is garbage and none of it is classic. All their dishes are stolen from better countries
>>
>>21904450
95% of Australians are from other countries, and the other 5% traditionally ate moths and mud worms.
>>
I prefer my meat pies with gravy ontop. not too thick but not too watery.
>>
Having one right now
>>
>>21904278
There is probably not a single place at which you could get one in my country. (Germany)

I prefer the British Pies.

had a mrs macs beef last night. was the microwavable frozen type with the special wrapper you cut the ends off and leave on. first time I have used one. It worked out very well. not as good as oven baked, but the pastry was not sloppy at all as was my experience with microwave pies in the past. 4/5 stars.
>>
>>21904604
The only thing available in Germany for consumption are Arabic food to eat and jewish cocks to gargle after the meal
>>
>>21904781
>microwaved pie
Why take something beautiful and make it obscene?
>>
>>21904785
/pol/ has rotted your mind
>>

if you can get one with the special microwave wrapper give it a go. you will be surprised.

All we can get in the States is pot pie filled with useless veggies and just a little bit of meat
>>
>>21906189
go ahead and make a straight up chicken pie then you toddler
>>
>>21904278
So fucking long ago, man. There was this franchise (I think it was a franchise?) that sold meat pies. I visited 20 years later and it was gone!
>>
>>21904278
I ate your mom's meat pie. Smelled like fish.

What distinguishes an Australian pie from English pies?

Nothing.

I make lamb and mutton pies in the classic Yoop pasty tradition with veg including rutabaga/swedes. Thai chili lime, tamarind and brown gravy sauces. Friends and neighbors want me to go commercial but I am making a crapliad of money at the moment and have no appetite for risk. Perhaps someday I will share.

As a Canadian my opinion is shit but I think the difference is that Australia and New Zealand still pride themselves on their pies whereas Britain has abandoned pie quality in favor of more locally lucrative savoury snacks like halal munch boxes. I'd happily be wrong though, pls recommend me your local pie mash & eel shop where the barmaids are one-eyed prostitute witches who brew ale with Thames sewer runoff.

The pastry, mostly. Australians use butter or margarine short crust pastry as the base of the pie whereas Brit’s tend to use lard short crust.

Also we don’t make canned pies. I have seen these eldritch nightmares in supermarkets here in Oz but I have never met an Aussie that’s ever eaten or bought one. I think they’re just for homesick br*toids.
>>
>>21907611
You're right - you're opinion is shit.

>>21907798
Brits don't eat them either, they haven't since the 1970s and don't make up silly stories about lard or butter.

I know it's trendy on /ck/ to bash the brits but come on, this just sounds desperate.

Some Aussie, post a picture of a meat pie butty, please.

In January, on Australia Day, I ate this potato pie while passing through Goulburn on my way from Canberra back to Sydney.
>>21907798
I'm an Aussie and I've eaten the Fray Bentos tinned steak & kidney pie several times. Of course they are not as good as a real meat pie but they are convenient to keep in the pantry and heat up if you want some slop.
>>21907848
Never heard of a pie butty but when I was in high school I used to go to the canteen at lunchtime and ask for a sausage roll in a bread roll with tomato sauce (ketchup). When I first ordered it the canteen ladies thought I was having a laugh and the other kids thought I was crazy, but soon the idea caught on and I started a bit of a trend in my school.

In the norf they will put anyfing in a sandwich.
A pie barm or "wigan kebab" is a meat pie in a bread roll, often with mashed peas, mashed potato or chips and gravy.
They also call it a "slappy" because it's bobbly jobbly wobbly, innit?
>>
Aussie pies are shit. NZ has way better pies due to local sourcing of high grade ingredients. Case in point this is a steak potato top pie, rare and hardly ever found outside of nz.
>>
>>21912675
I've eaten pies in both NZ and Australia. They are about the same. Frozen pies are no different between the two countries. Fresh pies from a small bakery that has a good reputation locally are always great whether you're in New Zealand or Australia. Most good bakeries in Australia use local high quality ingredients. Chains like Jesters and Pie Face are mediocre.
