They could probably find some common ground in the curry realm
Japanese cooking technique and sauce autism could probably work well with German sausages
Japanese have some fermented veggies here and there I think so sauerkraut could surely be worked in somewhere
The Japanese probably should not let the Germans touch the fish

take any German meat pie/pastry and replace the bread with a bed of rice, and put in a bowl. Serve with beer. Serve with fried pork scratchings or chicken gizzards & kraut or German slaw (all vinegar no mayo)

Efficiency
There's enough overlap to pivot off of similar ingredients, flavours, and functions. There are also enough background flavours that would need to be balanced if used together (hot mustard and dashi could play nicely together, but it would definitely be easy to make them clash).
