What Marvel has done ever since OMD has kept Peter in a characterization rut. Sure, on paper new things are happening but Peter himself has not changed from down on his luck 20-something. He doesn't learn anything, his relationships either rubber band back to status quo or defaults to what would be the most emotionally painful, and even the relationships that do change do not change in a way that makes sense in context. Now, before you move the goalpost: yes this is a common problem in comics as a medium, no that does not excuse this issue nor make it good writing. The Paul storyline did nothing but break down all progress the run before it made in repairing Peter and MJ's relationship, that run had to spend a lot of time trying to make that relationship after several runs of relationship drama, you kinda get the idea of cyclical that is right? Same thing on Peter holding down a job: Peter finds job, job goes into background as status quo for half a run (if that), Peter loses job, womp womp quip about Parker Luck, repeat for next run. Pre-OMD, while there have been ruts, there have also been runs where Peter reaches milestones: him graduating high school, graduating college, getting a teaching job, marrying MJ, all of this is stuff most runs didn’t back out of immediately and stuff that Marvel continuously undermines at every turn just to keep Peter in a rut. So tell me, how many runs of Marvel editorial spinning their wheels on one of their flagship heroes do fans have to sit through before this "interesting" pay off you're talking about? Because all I see are a wide range of ideas thrown at wall hoping that either sticks the landing or kicks the hornest nest of angry fans that will hate-buy the product.

Problem with Marvel comics as a whole is Brand Synergy. They're trying to make their comics look like the movies, so you know, they can drag in general audiences and get more money. That's fine that you want new readers but don't try and ruin a writers vision or a storyline because "Oh! The next MCU Movie is coming out! Quick, let's make the comic book characters look like their MCU counterparts, so we can get more money!" Like seriously, the comics survived long before the MCU was a thing, and yes, they went through their bankruptcy in the 90s but still comic books still survived. Comic books don't need to the movies to carry them, they should be creating new and interesting storylines for movies and TV shows to adapt years later, not the other way around.

So little room to breathe kills what should be an emotional climax but you're already pushed off to the next moment.

likewise it is rather unlikely that Amazing Spider-Man Modern Era Epic Collection Vol. 1: Coming Home will get a reprint anytime given the first print was just last year and it only recently went of print it is far more likely they will do reprints of X-Men books instead.
