>>
>>153155572I've een thinking about what could have made the Jeizuma arc work a bit better. I feel that if it was a gradual thing rather then all at once it would work better. Like Inazuma is still pretty much herself at the end of Grasscutter, maybe has an episode going crazy and killing the monks immediately after Jei 1' death but otherwise once she comes out of blackout seems to be in complete control. Recongizes Keiko as the girl who saved her and starts travelling with her, and as it goes on you see more and more of Jei creeping into her personality. Maybe have Keiko be a directly corrupting force telling her to enact the will of the gods. Would have been more interesting in giving us more of Inazuma and would also aleviate Kusanagi not finishing Jei if his coming back was something hard to do as more required corrupting another individual from the ground up.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>153156764You'd have to change some things with their first meeting, the Iconic "... Aunty" scene would have to be postponed.
Replaced with a scene where Inazuma takes Keiko under her wing, despite the dangers. Very Lady Snowblood.

Life hit him hard, but he was given another shot at happiness.
2004: Sharon Sakai finds out she has a rare type of an inoperable brain tumor
2011: Sharon has a serious stroke, half of her body is paralyzed, she keeps getting worse. Work on Usagi pauses for a year.
2012: Stan finishes the Shoyu two parter in February, a year after the first issue came out. Then his work on UY stops for over 3 years.
2013: in December, Stan's 20 months old grandson (boy in the picture) Leonardo dies in his sleep. Poor kid just stopped breathing. Sharon keeps getting worse, she is barely lucid, sleeps 23 hours per day, goes deaf and blind.
2014: in August, the first issue of Senso, is released. Sharon dies in November, she was 61.
2015: in May, Usagi Yojimbo resumes. In October, Stan marries Julie Fuji.

>>153156764I think it's mostly about the setup and payoff. You needed to have Inazuma have a more active role first, give her a story or two more as just Inazuma; and then you needed to have her death be more meaningful, with a couple more Jeinazuma appearances first, and not having Jei just immediately go into a body that just looks like his prior one and makes the whole thing feel like Stan regretting this plot and undoing it

Sounds like a shut out answer to a loaded question. He can't very well say no because then everyone gives him shit but he's not gonna say yes either because there probably really isn't so now everyone can just safely speculate about secondary and tertiary characters.

Not as crazy as it sounds. "Beggars Guild" makes it sound outlandish, like something that could only exist in a medieval fantasy setting, but they were real, especially since many people who had to resort to begging were hinin or eta. Besides literally begging for alms, these groups were a source of cheap, itinerant labor and their operating budgets were in fact some times substantial. I don't know about this small Literal Where town that's the setting of this issue, but in a large town like Osaka? Absolutely.

Its always sort of funny to me that by all accounts him trying to stack the deck is what led to his downfall. Its sort of the weird thing of he didn't beleive despite his previous feats that he could take Usagi in a straight fight.
Although something I only realised on this read through is his girlfriend has the statement he always gets drunk before work. But he doesn't drink before going to face Usagi, so maybe that is the source of his power or at least his confidence to just stroll in and kill everybody.

I know in China the beggar's guild was powerful and a little scary. Merchants were careful not to anger beggars lest bad things happen to their shops at night.
Westerners were like, "everyone knows they're crooks, why don't the police just arrest them?" and the locals would say "oh no, just give them some coins as you pass and don't cause trouble. it's just the way things are!"

>36,000 Ryo
At 500 Ryo a head, they could've paid Shizukiri for every person he kills in the volume and still have money left over. Assuming Ogami took a contract in every chapter of LW&C (he didn't, some chapters he chilled or someone tried to snatch Daigoro or he hid out), they could have bankrolled about half the chapters in TWO YEARS!
Don't mess with Osaka beggers. They can have you and your entire bloodline killed.

Yeah, it's just weird all around. Gen's encounters with Jei/Inazuma in general are such egregious cases of plot armor, which is weird because I almost never feel that's the case in this series otherwise.

I love the idea that she is also a gunslinger to make up for her relative lack of formal ninja training.
Besides, if you aren't cheating, you aren't fighting correctly, bushido be damned

I just don't get why Stan is so averse to just giving Usagi a traveling partner every now and then. His time with Jotaro were genuinely incredible chapters, and Mayumi could've easily filled that void for a good while.

What the fuck are they thinking? It's like they're taking for granted he won't use his sword, even though as a samurai he has every right to kill them even if they *don't* attack him. This is just the worst plan.

IIRC Enmanon or smebody wrote pretty extensively about this in last year's storytime.

It's interesting to have a couple that start off bickering, but quickly move into more intimate, domestic emotions that highlight how terrible and depressing their lives on. There's frustration there, but it's not a relationship based on nothing.

Also worth pointing out the parallels in the scene of them hanging out together to the time he was escorting that disguised princess.

Man, that would've sucked. Also doesn't make any sense, as we clearly see things from her POV for a good chunk of this arc. The narrative would've been actively lying to the audience, like that's a David Cage/Heavy Rain tier asspull. I'm glad he realized that just wouldn't work at all, but this does explain a lot about her behavior in some spots.

At a guess, that particular plotline was completely dropped somewhere between >>153155693 and >>153155755 being written.
There's still a few pages where slight alterations to the dialogue would restore the original ending. Like her not asking who Shizukiri is or >>153156024, which could easily be her telling Shizukiri not.to underestimate his opponent.
At a guess, the original version probably had some abbreviated version of the informant scene that would have cut off with Shizukiri revealing who he was, with her revealing herself to be Koroshi offscreen and then next showing them in the forest. The other town sequences would have only came in after Stan changed the ending.

Was sold in the west as a sequel to Ninja Scroll when it really wasn't so a lot of people were rightly confused. It's actually based on a book called Makai Tensho which was also made into a movie starting Sonny Chiba. The OVA is incomplete.

I saw people say that was some bullshit in a previous thread and I kinda agree.
Koji and Katsuichi both spent decades focusing on learning swordsmanship while Inazuma spent like a year learning sword tricks. Like sure some people just have the affinity but by all accounts Katsuichi had a similar affinity and then spent years training on top of that.
She's still easily one of the top 5 swordfighters and I could even buy she's the FASTEST in keeping with her name, but I'd still put Katsuichi and Koji above her. Even if she was faster I think they'd be able to factor that in and find an opening.

It was so fucking slow. I didn't finish it. It's obviously from the time when anime was filled with pointless filler. Also the dissonance between mecha and regular swords and arrows didn't work for me. Why did the floating kettles fall down after being hit on the surface with a few arrows? How did the samurai kill giant mecha with regular swords? Sorry, it crossed from "awesome" to "retarded" for me.
The starting episodes in the city were fun tho.
I have to watch the actual original movie sometime.
