He was an absolute highlight. I like that they managed to properly balance him being a serious, pure evil threat and him being a fruity diva. Shame the movie is probably going to bomb because it was a lot better than I could've possibly expected.

I don't understand the question. Are you asking how someone can like an antagonist? You can acknowledge a bad guy is an irredeemable piece of shit, and still find them entertaining.
I swear modern audiences are so damn narcissistic they have to self-insert into every plot

Leto is a weird fucking guy BUT Skeletor is also a weird fucking guy. In a way, it's perfect casting. I'm thinking the problem with Leto in his previous roles is that they keep giving him serious characters to play when the dude should be playing unserious villains more often.

>is so charismatic that it's hard to ruin him
That's what people used to say about the Joker and look how that turned out (not only Suicide Squad but also Joker 2). We should realize we got lucky and that Travis Knight's ability as director should be respected, since, he was good enough to even salvage Leto's acting career. Anyone can botch up an iconic villain if they try hard enough. Never assume thing will turn out alright.

Enough with the revisionism. Normies fucking loved Leto Joker and Suicide Squad was a huge hit despite the mainstream media was literally begging the audience to watch Fembuster instead. I agree about Joker 2 though

Jonkler was bad but it wasn't the actual nail in the coffin for Leto. It was fucking Morbius that caused things to spiral out of control for the guy's reputation. Sony's direction for it was the main issue (a Spider man movie without Spiderman will always be stupid) but Leto's become punching bag because of the Morb meme. Things only got worse when Tron: Ares flopped too. That movie was supposed to be the big revival of Tron as a franchise. Tronfags were desperate for a win and they now blame Leto for essentially killing the franchise once and for all. When your involved in a flop of that magnitude and what an already bad reputation, Leto essentially became as notorious as Dobson for /co/. We can praise him for his work as Skeletor but he's never undoing his original cinema sins.

Assuming this ever gets a sequel (which good luck), I hope Skeletor is reoccurring like the after credits scene implies. Like for example if they do Hordak later, I want Skeletor to swoop in and upstage him in the final act
>>
It was a fun movie. I’ll admit I was a little worried during his life on Earth because I REALLY thought they were going to have his roommate tag along with him back to Eternia to fill the “quirky guy who comments on everything weird” role, but they thankfully didn’t go that direction.
But the performances were good. Some scenes did drag on a bit too long and it felt like they tried way too hard to make the Fisto joke work when it wasn’t that funny to start with me. Pretty decent action scenes with the fight at Snake Mountain and Skeletor’s final fight standing out.
Wasn’t perfect but definitely way better than I was expecting. They just needed to clean up the pacing a bit.

Leto was fine in movies until they leaned into the Joker marketing and he decided he had to go over the top to follow in Heath Ledger's footsteps, because of all the hype surrounding how immersed Ledger got in the role.
Leto's career in movies from like 98-2016 was all fairly well regarded roles or at least non-offensive. He was in Fight Club, he was in American Psycho, he was in Requiem for a Dream, a bunch of solid performances in both bit and as a lead.
At least with the Skeletor role, he's been pretty reserved and quiet as far as I can tell.

Probably some old exec thought that the best way to solve the generational gap between He-Man and zoomers was to make Adam grow on Earth so everything could be explained to him. I admit I was disappointed when I heard the movie started on Earth but at least it was relatively short and the screentime was used to establish Adam as a character. I'd prefer the all movie is set in Eternia but old execs rule Hollywood

>Suicide Squad
>the result of retarded Warner bros execs trying to introduce the Joker without Batman
>Morb
>the result of retarded Sony execs trying to compete with MCU (the same guys who caused Amazing Spiderman to flop by the way)
>Tron
>Disney had been trying to find ways to kill it for ages now. Leto being a producer was one thing but he was also set up considering Disney did zero marketing or hire a competent director for the film (tldr Joachim Ronning was the guy behind Pirates of the Caribbean: Ded Men Tell no Tales and Maleficent Mistress of evil; Disney sent in a known franchise killer to do the job)
Basically all of Leto's bad films are the result of executive meddling. Wtf is his agent doing getting him into so many doomed roles?

We needed an audience vessel. Having him grow up on Eternia but be missing for 15 years is a great compromise because it establishes he already knows a lot about the world but needs brought up to speed for stuff he missed. Having him always on Eternia but fed exposition would have made Adam look incredibly stupid, begging the question why people are talking about these things at all. The worse option would have been him always growing up on Earth and being sent away as a baby, that would have been awful.
But the other purpose of his exodus was to show how much Eternia has suffered while he was away, and for Adam to learn new ways of social skills to temper his use of The Power

I mean maybe I'm wrong but it seems to always happen with franchises where the main character is a turbo generic, "I do good because it's good" type of guy. Meanwhile the villain is actually allowed to have a personality outside of their evil.

>they all fuck over Mando
Oh right. Yeah that one is probably getting blown to pieces now. Theaters near me were already filtering it out for He-Man. Genuinely impressive how bad things all went for that franchise. If He-Man ends up beating it it'll be something no one would have predicted twenty years ago.

Galtzine has his moments as He-man/Adam in this moviebut alot of that good work is wasted by the constant push to make a buffoon of him. In broader terms however it seems most people find heroes boring these days. Not me though,I was always a sucker for boy scouts.

The movie wanted to have it's cake and eat it too. There's several points where it seems at odds with itself, especially in the final battle. It really irks me how often they refused to just let the movie do it's thing. Again, cut out all the comedy and the movie immediately DRASTICALLY improves.

I think he means overall gross. But it's not going to happen, MOTU would need damn near Obssession tier legs to past Mandalorian.
Honestly i feel kinda bad for it, we were selling out of the showings we had for it but it was only in a single theater where i work meanwhile Backrooms/Obssession/Scary Movie 6 were in 6/13 of our theaters..... also we put Digital Circus in our largest theater (i did the schedule and was kinda hoping it'd be a dud so we'd have at least one slow theater but it still fucking sold out)
It's nice to see theaters doing so well though i guess wouldn't be too surprised to see this June match pre-covid junes like May did.

Teela's casting is acceptable. Flat chest, but canon Teela isn't exactly stacked either. Still like 80s movie Teela more looks-wise. This one looks wimpy.
Evil-lyn is a big downgrade both in casting and in looks though. Then again, I don't think current Hollywood even has anyone as striking as Foster.

You're into something, but not quite there. Leto Joker was ruined by the script. The movie itself is not great, but you just could tell the whole story without throwing there the Joker. It's not that Leto was a lousy Joker, but an irrelevant Joker.
Joker 2 is shit and proof that no character can run only on charisma.

I will say that while the film pokes fun at the names Adam came up with when he was ten, and the "secret" identity bit, the Masters never criticize Adam for it. In fact by the end, they all find it really endearing, and accept the nicknames nor do they confront Adam on his shenanigans
>"Nah.....let him do his thing"
Because they respect him and he saved their entire world
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>154099069
Yes that's what I mean. The idea of the franchises having movies that were even in the same ball park back in the late nineties or early two thousands would sound ridiculous. Initially when He-Man came out and and at its highest points maybe toy wise, but afterwards just sounded like a pipe dream. That they could even be remotely be near each other speaks volumes of where Star Wars is now.

Well that's the key thing there; The Sorceress chose Adam because he knows WHEN to unleash The Power. Tempering, restraint, which makes him worthy. We saw what happens when Adam misuses The Power, it cost him Randor's life. In the end he gave Skeletor every mercy he could before being certain that it was okay to cut loose.

You know it might have a decent weekend due to word of mouth. The usual suspects (Drinker, Mauler, Nerdrotic, RLM) pretty much all gave it good buzz. Not sure how much that audience matters, but we'll see. Hell I could see Amazon shelling out the cash to continue it

Trap-Jaw could comeback with a significant enough redesign, either that or swap him out for another evil warrior like Saurod or Stinkor. Ditto on Beast Man and Tri Klops. Mer-man would be fun too though. Frankly I still dont buy Moss-Man's death. I could see him coming back with a redesign too.

One can only hope it gets that chance. A sequel devoid of ironic comedy would have much stronger legs. My only worry then would be their handle of She-ra, because I'd fully expect them to push her to the forefront while He-man is played as a dipshit again.

I bet you could do a fan edit of this, trim out a couple of the jokes, and this would be a lot stronger. Example being the coughing fit after they escape, or Ram Man and Fisto's war cries during the final battle. I'd keep stuff like Adam yelling at the crowd before getting on the ship though
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>154104545
>I'd also trim a lot of the earth stuff as well
I can run down what you can cut and splice edit to have scenes move along better. Lets see....
>Cut down the weirdos at the comic shop. Might help with the pacing.
>Cut the fat cops joke, just leave the first Highlander joke
>Keep the HR stuff as it is relevant.
>Cut the school flashback, Adam looking at the drawing is good enough
>Do the roommate watching Soap Operas gag only once.
>Perhaps keep the car pulling out bit as it ties in with the flying bike joke later, but I think it would still read either way considering its an alien vehicle so debatable.
As far as what to cut from Eternia:
>Man at Arms puking
>Cut/Shorten Adams conversation with whatshername who shoves him into the locked room. The locker story seems more relevant in the motivational speech scene
>Cut Fisto talking about how small the sword looks in his hand
>Cut Ram Man and Fisto's battle cries in the final act
>Cut the "Butt Worm" joke
>Cut Adam waving at Man At Arms during the chase
>Cut the coughing fit during the Mercury Song escape
>Cut the peanut gallery chit chat while Teela/Man at Arms watch Adam fight Trap Jaw
How much would that help?
>>
>>154102427
There are a bunch of heroes left from the toy line with names as ridiculous as Ram Man. Imagine if they carried that gag forward with people Adam only meets in the sequel.
"You're Buzz-Off! .oO(I told you to go away when I was ten.)"
>>
>>
>>154104850
I'd say it would help alot. Tightening up alot of the "natural" flubs from the intro would help alot too. Pitching in some more scenes worth cutting.
>Axe the prison escape smoke cloud coughing gag
>Axe the bulk of Duncan's quips and just focus on the sage advice bits
>Cut the friendzoning of Adam completely
>Cut away alot of Adam's fumbles in his initial fight with Trapjaw
>Ditch the room mate joke from the end too if possible.
>>
>>154105487
I don’t agree with a lot of these. Teela and Adam very clearly like each other, just not something that should happen this fast. The setup is there. You also need the Trap Jaw fail to contrast Adam’s transformation. I’m wiling to keep the roommate bit because it’s totally something Adam would do and isn’t dragged out

originally i read here that there was a scene where Adam returns to the HR office and puts the boss lady in her place.
obviously that didnt happened, but it would be nice that at least alongside adam taking his roommate to eternia, we would had a scene of adam leaving the bosslady, and that Darryl guy some dangerous souvenir from eternia to scare her, with a 'consider THIS as my resignation' note or something.

I think my only concern with a sequel is if Skeletor is resurrected by Evil-Lyn he'll be a talking head for the majority of the film, a weakened state where he's forced to fess up about Hordak. Not sure how he'd regain The Havoc Staff either.
Basically while I'm interested in seeing Hordak and The Horde invade Eternia, I still want Skeletor to steal the show and usurp his former master
>>
>>154108336
I guess this all depends on whether She-Ra is going to be the focus of a sequel or if they'll go straight to a spin-off. If it's the former, then I can see two scenarios: the movie focuses on Hordak, with a post-credits scene showing Evil-Lyn resurrecting Skeletor for the third film; or the producers realize that Skeletor is what's carrying the film and bring him back from the start. In that case, I could see the story playing out much as you describe, with Skeletor remaining in a weakened state until the end of the movie, when he finally recovers his powers for the third one.
>>
>>
They really should have abandoned the whole gag of Adam giving everyone dumb names as a kid and just had Skeletor come up with the name He-Man. It seems like the kind of sarcastic but also really gay thing this version of the character would come up with to mock Adam.
