/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - CRAZY COW EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bick4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them and rest them

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.
>Are Thursdays any good?
no.

I’m getting a bonus and want to buy a nice pair of boots. I’ve lurked the threads and want to buy something from someone who gives some options but is quality. Frank is coming to my area so I’m going to let him measure me. Is Frank legit? I am wary of White’s. Would also consider alternative brands. Budget is 1K. Need something rugged that will last my lifetime with minimal care but still looks nice enough to wear with slacks and pass for business casual.
>>
>>18662442
>rugged
>minimal care
>business casual
Unless you're using 'business casual' incorrectly, you're asking for too much from one pair of boots. Either get something rugged and indestructible or get something more formal.
>>
>>18662442
like you were told, you basically cant have your cake and eat it.
>>
should i buy these
>>
>>18662455
I’m not. Business casual down in what I do means just slacks and a button up tucked in. I’m in chemical plants and wetlands and forests as often as I’m giving a presentation on this or that. I think what I want is something made of premium leather more than anything else. Super thick but dyed all nice.
>>18662460
Perhaps, but the cowboy boots I wear now are nicer than most other peoples’ shoes/boots. I’m just tired of cowboy boots because my arches are really high and it’s a drag yanking them on as I get older and softer around the middle.
>>
>>18662465
Viberg 2040, commando sole. Have fun waiting for it to appear again.
>>
>>18662467
Best pair of boots I own. Jewberg needs to do something about this bullshit.
>>
Good brands to check out for cowboy boots?
>>
Just grabbed these Fryes- should arrive in a few days. Despite the OP, I have a soft spot for side zips and these have a really nice profile. Plus they're welted so my cobbler can put a v-bar or mini lug on them when they wear through.

Also I thought my rebuilt Wesco Morrisons would be coming this month. Found out I have to wait till May.
>>
>>18662476
Used to be RM Williams. Not anymore, though. Too many source their leather and labor from Mexico now. Leddy’s if money isn’t an object and you can go to Texas for a custom pair. Otherwise, lucchese is the “big” brand that still kinda holds up.
t. >>18662442
>>
>>18662476
Dan Post and Tony Lama are both aight. For a bit more Olathe, Fengolio, and Hondo are excellent. Then any of the Anderson Bean brands (AB, horsepower top hand, Rios of Mercedes) are great but more expensive.

And fyi you cant buy most cowboy boots from the brands website. Theyre big on relationships with individual stocklists so like, if you want some Olathes, you gotta find western shops that stock them, hope they sell online, and then hope they have your size in stock
>>
>>18662480
>Too many source their leather and labor from Mexico now.
Cowboy boots are a Mexican thing though. They come from vaquero boots. Mexico has a huge cowboy boot heritage and they're as much a Mexican thing as they are a Texan thing
As long as cowboy boots are being made in Mexico because of tradition and heritage and not a labor cutting thing, there's no reason Mexican boots would be any less authentic than Texan made ones
>>
Nobody said Whites semidress yet? Shame on you, guys.
>>
>>18662483
I'm located in DFW so I don't think I'll have any problem at all finding a stockist. I just don't know the brands to look into
I have heard good things about Chisos, Rios of Mercedes and of course Lucchese.
That Rose Anshill faggot hates Lucchese so I'm sure they're actually great
>>
>>18662494
Oh so you're just a faggot? Got it
>>
>>18662494
>cowboy boots originated in mexico
>mexicans wear the boots they created
>anon on /fa/ is so threatened by this concent and the idea that not everything came from white people he starts crying and pissing himself
get it together
>>
>>18662484
This is absolutely wrong. Mexican mystery meat leather has poisoned the cowboy boot market, it’s even infiltrated South Dakota and if it’s here then it’s everywhere. Any name brand cowboy boot is suspect, the best thing to do is buy local or from smaller shops that you can travel to and ask where their leather is from.

Jesus Christ, reddit just posts here with “muh culture” without acknowledging the reality of the situation. Mexican mystery leather is worse than Indian mystery leather. At least Indian mystery leather is probably water buffalo.

No. I already bought a custom pair from Baker’s and sent them back. The leather was rotten and misdyed. I fell for that meme once from reddit, not falling for it again.

Anyone have info on what kind of leathers Paraboot use? Their website is obnoxiously vague about their products, no detail on anything.
>>
>>18662498
nah
>>
>>18662464
yes
>>
>>18662703
>Paraboot sources the majority of its high-quality leather (around 77%) from renowned tanneries in France, with the remainder coming from top-tier suppliers across Europe. They specifically utilize full-grain cattle and deer hides sourced from Western Europe. A key supplier is the Haas Degermann tannery in Alsace, which has supplied their signature Suportlo leather for over 70 years. They also use shell cordovan sourced from the United States
>>
>>18662654
Yeah I follow him, he is legit.
Another new Chinese bootmaker is peterqu.com, all shell but really good prices.
>>
Not a boot but what is this kind of top stich called? I‘m looking for boat shoes or deck shoes like this. Looks less formal than oxfords, and less casual than boat shoes
>>

a moc toe?
>>
>>18662722

Thanks, anon.

>peterqu.com
I'll probably buy from this dude first. It's rare to find a well made Shell Cordovan that's under $700
>>
>>18662734
Moc toe, but it looks more mediterranean style because of how sleek/sloped it is, compare for example Carmina 80372 to Carmina 80746. Moc toe in american shoes would be more square I feel
>>
>>18662737
>>18662767
ok thx, I did not know it was called that.
I think I prefer the "american" styling of it, the long pointy mediterranean style looks too tryhard for me

Boot dudes for jealous of denim fades.

the fuck did he do? dunk his entire boots into his yearly denim hot soak water?
>>

What a way to flush 1k down the drain
>>
The patina thunderdome is hilarious because people go out and buy brand new boots and completely ruin them just to show off to strangers on the internet. They'll completely over condition them to darken the leather, wear them for months in a row and destroy the uppers, expose them to all sorts of shit just to make them look beat up, and the hilarious thing is these big boot brands all sponsor it because they know it means they'll 1) buy a brand new boots from them at the start and 2) buy new boots at the end to replace the pair they ruined
Peak reddit

Tyrolean derbies are an acquired taste and they're very versatile, apparently the Michael is a bitch to size for though.

only reason I haven't purchased any of these French brands is because of sizing
I want some JM Westons but their sizing is apparently notoriously difficult
>>
>>18663062
pretty sure he sanded the factory edge finish off before dunking the entire boot into the indigo to have the edges dyed too
never refinished them back again, left them raw and dragged the boots through snow for half a year

>>

>>
>>18662654
>>18662722
the chinese shell these guys use is really suspect
they both get natural shell from somewhere and finish it themselves
the yield on the giant shell pieces they receive seems too good to be true, which means it's either not tanned as densely as horween and/or they leave a lot of non-shell horsebutt around
the luster is all topcoat finish and that doesn't even hold
meermin shell all over again, hard pass
>>
>>18663387
At least he's intentionally destroying his boots. Do you guys remmember tgat redditor who cleaned his red wings with saddle soap once per month and ruined them in two years? And then blamed the brand? That fucker has been living rent free on my mind ever since some anon posted it here.

That adds up, seems like they are chasing a teacore effect and are also able to save money by not getting it factory finished.
What would actually be suspect with Shell would be creasing, which that pair shows none of, seems fine to me for something you're getting much cheaper than anywhere else.

>thing that can keep your feet dry and comfortable

>>
>>18664231
There's no functional difference between owning 2 pairs of boots vs 20 pairs of boots. One is practical and the other is "collecting" (read: hoarding) to fill a void with consumerism. Plenty of people own one funko pop and just like how it looks on the shelf. It's gay but so is most decoration. Boot collectors are funkofags.
>>
>>18664244
Except you can wear any of the boots. You guys are desperate to get around that fact, but there is no getting around that fact.
>>
>>18664251
>>18664242
>>18664231
If you actually use your boots, you just say "I use my boots." The constant appeal to hypothetical uses is genuinely one of the hallmarks of a hoarder.
>>
>>18664251
its basically the same consoomer prototype, be it cars, watches, perfumes, etc. im not going to throw a fit and tell the hairlet fatfuck what to do with his money, when we die we dont take shit with us
>>
I'm not gonna shit on people collecting boots, watches, cars or even fucking funko pops. But collecting is a thing in itself where usage, hypothetical or real, is no longer a concern. Once you got that many boots, practicality has long abandoned the conversation. Fuck, I own less than ten pairs of boots and don't delude myself thinking it's practical.

>>18662442

>>
>>18664251
This is the last time I'm going to respond, because I don't want to shit up the thread with bickering. The fact that you can wear the boots is irrelevant. That you can use something doesn't justify hoarding others of the same thing. You can "use" a funkopop for its intended "use", which is to be looked at occasionally. Collecting them is still retarded.
You're trapped in some kind of autistic loop of thinking that because a boot has a practical use, it's normal or desirable to have a whole room in your house dedicated to your 100 pairs of boots. It's not. That's why everyone but you thinks it's faggy and cringe. Get a grip.
>>
none of my boots fit the way i want
>>
>>18664309
I have very high arches and as a result a very high instep. My instep on my left foot is higher than my right, so footwear fits snugger on that foot
My right foot is wider than my left, so sizing for my left foot means the right is too tight, and sizing for my right means the left is too roomy. Anything narrow is immediately out of the question
I really want to get some bespoke footwear made and finally, the first time time ever, just have everything fit right
For now though Alden's Trubalance is by far the best last I've found for my individual feet
