It's true. Standing single leg is even better.

right this way

what's the best way to load standing single leg at home without a machine?
i tried putting a bar on my back but it felt kind of risky with higher weight
using a dip belt was ok a first but kind of awkward as the weight went up
can only hold so much in a dumbell, but that so far has felt the overall best
any advice?
>>
Does that thing causes herniated disks?
>>
>>77185238
Yes. This is how i fucked up my back. Not kidding. My left foot tingles when not lying down. Its been 10 years. Not worth it.
>>
>>77185761
that sucks bro, but also, herniating a disc doing machine calf raises seems wildly anomalous, to the point where i'd disagree with your "not worth it" opinion for the general public. i get that the spine is under considerable load but it's also not moving so ???
i will say that for people who want to do something like standing calf raises without loading their spine, you can do leg press calf raises. you can also do single leg to reduce load instead

Nigger I'm telling you on a leg press machine doing calves. Comfy as fuck and can easily and comfortably isolate them.
>>
>>77185217
i dont have fucking time for either of these

Those are two different exercises for two different muscles. Yes, your calves are two separate muscles that works fepending wheather your knee is bend.
Kinesiology knowledge issue.
>>
P.s.: even the attach pic shows which muscle works for which exercise. But people are too retarded to understand a simple pic...
>>
>>77187013
Nah, feel it in hams, but it's nice.

Hack squat machine is infinitely easier to do ‘standing’ calf raises on, fwiw. (Not that there’s anything wrong with using leg press, just easier and also no one ever uses it.)
>>
>>77185217
On left I do 30kg until feel a burning sensation in my calves and then a couple more reps
My calves are very tender and I need to be careful not to strain them, which has happened before on this machine.
I also have had shin splints several times, which makes me even more careful
>>
>>77185217
I do shrugs on the standing calf raise, the squeeze is insane.
Actual calf raises on the seated leg press, because fuck taxing my lower back after heavy RDLs and back extensions.
>>
I put weights in a backpack and then do the right one off a ledge. Your meme machines don't hit the whole calf.
>>
>>77185217
>Not seated dumbell raises in between bench sets
DYEL?
>>77185228
You're merely a lazy bitch.
>>
>>77185855
I do this when there isn't a machine for hammie curls or good spot for Nordic curls. Never felt it in my calves though.

SRT

I do em on a sitting leg press machine. How bad is that?

Fuck, it's you, bot-boi

>>77189982
Do not even respond to the former, you stupid fucking DYEL zoomie scum.
Post calves with timestamp. I double-dog dare you, motherfucker.
>>
>>77185228
It's not even hard

>>77186014
Yes,but standing somehow works them both more. Maybe it's because people don't take bodyweight into account and don't load sitting as heavily as they should
>>
>>77185217
You need to add 70-100 (140 for the fatasses on this board) to the left for it to even be equivalent to just standing up and doing bodyweight calf raises.
>>
It's two different muscles bozo
>>
>>77185217
The best way to get big calves is to just be fat and go for a walk.
>>
>>77185217
You need to be doing both. Left works soleus, right works gastrocnemius. This anon >>77193522 is right.

>don't load as heavily as they should

Isn't that the kind of thing that should automatically correct itself after a couple weeks? Are you guys not doing progressive overload or something?
>>
In all my years the person I saw with the biggest calves was a hiking instructor over two decades ago. This guy hiked mountains for a living and was a typical dad-build boomer. Things were like watermelons. I've tried everything for calves, but the only thing that seems to grow them is HIKING and walking at a steep incline.

>doing hundreds of bodyweight exercises grows the relevant muscle
Go figure

Training calves directly is such a huge waste of time. Just do some cardio
>>
>>77196097
stfu retard
never listening to faggots like you on /fit/ is probably the best thing anybody can do
>hurr durr abs are made in le kitchen
how about you dont train your biceps because you train back you mouthbreathing faggot
>>
>>77196106
my calves are fucking huge and I never train them. I do however do incline walking and cycling for cardio. Only little boy DYELs train calves

Calves are mostly genetic
Want big ass calves and push through genetics? Be obese
100% worked for me
My advice, find something that simulates being a sedentary obesefag
>>
your achilles tendon is stealing all of your gains
>>
>>77185217
before every workout, I do goblet jumping squats as a warm-up (currently with a 35kg dumbbell).
>>
>>77185761
i don't see how would it be possible without doing it in atrocious form, but just to be sure i'm doing calf raises in the leg press machine
