>people tell me only need 7000 steps a day
This could be applied for the general population as a starting point (or even less maybe), for many of us live sedentary lives, but after a reaching point it just wouldn't be enough. I hiked 11,8 km this morning and planning to walk another 10 km in the evening.
Also came across with these videos yesterday, truly insightful:

I'm a walker, but I'm not as consistent as I'd like to be. That 10k streak is much more impressive than my daily 20k streaks for a month or two before I inevitably make a break again because I hurt myself or because I don't feel like walking three hours.

Don't sleep on the cognitive benefits of walking. This is a guy called Shane O'Mara, he's a neuroscientist who does experimental brain research at the Trinity College. He's also an avid walker himself and wrote a book about the benefits of walking, it's called "In Praise of Walking."

I don't do a step counter but I always walk 2-3 miles a day minimum. A lot of it at work and then hiking on the weekends.
Feels good

Been on a 112 day streak of 22,000 plus steps. Feels good.

I love walking, I usually do at least 4 miles, usually 6 or 7 every day

I'd walk more but it's really boring always walking the same route. I've lived in a pretty big european city for all my life so it's just boring at this point. After an hour or so I don't want to walk anymore.

it's 10k steps a day because the Japanese symbol for 10k looks like a person walking

>>77186271
i walk around the gym between sets, walk around the store when i shop, and occasionally walk a horrible dog.

>>77186317
i used to get 20k steps a day easily when i was working (i am a full time student now)

>>77186208
>but after a reaching point it just wouldn't be enough

for what? you don't have to keep improving everything forever, a reasonable level of activity done every day is still good even if it is no longer improving, but is just maintaining
>>
>>77186109
I got between 17-20k steps at work. Everytime Iam on holiday I gain 3kg

You have a valid point, but it is irrelevant to mine. Sure, consistency is of more importance than performance in the long run, though one will increase the mileage/speed eventually if he wants to improve on walking as a training method. If not, it is totally fine to keep the pace.

I have a few days a week where I hit 20k but I move so little on rest days or when work isn't busy that it averages out to a bit over 8k a day lately. This week I averaged 11k though. In the coming months, when the weather is better, it should average out to over 10k again. I don't do a lot of cardio though and when I do I don't track steps, so that isn't included.

going from 8k to 10k steps would take 20 minutes
>>
>>77186109
10k every day man. I find it easier to break it up a bit. Go 30mins earlier to work to escape traffic so I can do about 4k steps. Do another sesh at lunch, get the rest passively doing whatever.

If you're looking to increase your steps then unironically buy a cheap fit bit/smart watch that tracks your steps, there is just something about constantly being aware of it that makes you want to meet the goal and you just naturally end up walking more overtime. For instance, maybe you need to go to get groceries: you check your watch to see what time it is, you see you're missing 2k steps and you know that if you just walk there instead you'll get it. Chores and random tasks become less burdensome because you know that by doing it you are also getting your steps up, etc.

i wish we all could take a walk together

I've began walking to and from my university because I'm trying to lose fat. Found a nice route where I walk through a park half the time and the sorroundings make it so much easier when you only got grass, trees and the road to see

Honestly I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. I'm 188 cm tall and weigh 110 kg, and I walk at least 10 km every day doing this. It's 1000 calories burned every single day and my fatloss seems easier than it ever did

Holy shit anons, i used to walk 15k steps per day from 2022 to 2025 but this year i picked up vidya and i average 7k per day. I need to step it up. I was way leaner back then aswell.
>>
I don't really walk that much in regular day to day. But I do bike quite a lot. Usually around 10 miles per day.

How are you guys walking so much? I assume most of you are in America where any method of travel besides car means you're a pathetic faggot and is also dangerous. And you all also think that wanting to live somewhere "walkable" means you're some liberal faggot who loves minorities and crime. You must just walk around aimlessly and think it makes you better than others.

i'm a 10k a day guy. impressive streak! i think in the last six years i've only missed seven days. currently on a 484 day streak, had almost a three year streak but came up 90 steps short when i blacked out one night

Glad to see some other walkers here. Right now I’m NEET so I take long walks, with a weighted backpack pack on rocky/un even terrain.
I’m sure there are better ways to get fit, but right now this is routine so I’m not going to stop
I usually go out armed with
>2 apples
>emergency trail mix
> a lot of water (this adds weight to my pack)
>something interesting to listen to
>hat and shades
If I ever get paid I’ll upgrade my shoes but for now I’m in shitty ones that are flat
How is everyone today? Did you start yet?

It can be a little embarrassing to be walking when grills and douchebags in nice cars weight for you at red lights, especially if you look like you’re out on a designed walk
I imagine they think
>what’s this loner doing walking?
>does he not have a car
>lol he’s alone
>not even jogging?
>clearly jobless
>pathetic, I wish I had time to waste like him
That’s why I get off the roads as soon as I can and get on the trails and it goes away
I love the trails, anons
Although even on the trails, there are “trail bunnies” who run them, and I’m sure they aren’t attracted to us slow steppers, probably only want the jacked trail runner bros…
Anyone else here get insecure while walking sometimes?

Not with walking but I get just as insecure when bicycling. Then again I do have a reason to be insecure considering I’m in my 30s with no car and don’t drive. But I have the exact same thoughts
>I’m so pathetic biking on the street when everyone else drives
>look everyone is with people when I’m just alone on my bike
>people need cars because they have places to get to quickly whereas I can bike because my time does not matter so it can take longer
>look at everyone out with their friends and family while I’m just biking aimlessly alone
>>
I noticed something today anons. I was going up a hill. A semi long one.
My legs burned a little, but my breathe was like fine. I didn’t get tired, I was breathing normally. It felt great, and it totally surprised me. I’ve been doing 10k plus for a few months now
Anyways, it scared me a little. But in a good way.
It was almost as if My breathing rate was at rest
>>
>>77191860
I always feel as if cars see me and recognize me because I’ve lived in town for so long so sometimes I look at drivers for whatever reasons
>>
>>77186109
I walk but not every day I get about 22,000 steps every other day and average about 4000-5000 just being at home all day. My gym is like an hour away walking but I do it anyways because it gives me time to catch up my audiobooks and other stuff I just never can focus on otherwise.
>>
>>77193387
I find a distance is almost never too long if I have interesting stuff to listen to, water and an apple just in case I notice any sort of fatigue along the way
Walking to the gym and back will get you jacked

Novice walker here but I need to walk some more, unfortunately we're having another fucking cold snap right now and I'm so sick of winter, cold, and overcast days. I can't believe how annoyed I am at my second favorite season. But I can't wait to get out and get some sun tomor-

facking love walking, i dont think the physical gains are that impressive, but i do it for the mental gains it soothes my soul getting my 10km in with a good book or a podcast, i do it on my off days when not training, so train - walk - train - walk - train - walk.

Curious if this sounds accurate.
I'm a big fatty that walks a lot.
Today I've got 8400 steps so far and its saying that equals 730 calories burnt.
I'm 6' and 320 lbs.

> I assume most of you are in America where any method of travel besides car means you're a pathetic faggot and is also dangerous.

I've seen people walk their dogs on the side of roads where the speed limit is 55mph, and there's maybe 2 feet of dirt between the road asphalt and a 5 ft deep drainage ditch. We just built different.

I did have some drunk teenager call me a "nigger" from his car one time when I was walking to 7/11. I just called him nigger back.
