Correlation doesn't nean causation. Alm those studies point out that it's unhealthy people who can't gey enough sleep and sleep more than a healthy person needs. If you need to sleep more than 8 hours, you will have an oncreased all cause mortality even if you try sleep less. Sleeping less might even increase it wven more.
You should sleep as much as you want. And if your body required that much sleep, you should check your health. Something could be seriously wrong.

Studying is here btw: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/206050
>conducted in 1982
Red flag. Old studies should always be scrutinized and asked why they have not had their results repeated.
>"Currently, we do not know why sleep exceeding 7.5 hours was associated with excess mortality. Sleep duration in itself may not be a causal factor. Our group has suggested that sleep apnea might be a crucial underlying abnormality"
This makes the most sense. Sleep apnea is also correlated with obesity. Generally if people are sleeping more than 8 hours per night there is a reason.

NTA but my answer is YES.
Anon is correct. Correlation does not mean causation. What IS proven is that SLEEP DEPRIVATION (as in: sleeping less than your body needs, regardless of hours) has a proven causal relationship with earlier death and several comorbidities.
Adult people who sleep 10-11 hours a night almost always have an underlying condition (depression being one of many possibilities), and it's the underlying condition that kills them early.
And no, I will not doxx myself posting any of my papers or collab papers, so cope and seethe

I would add that he alsp lacks a common sense. So we evolved an internal mechanizm that tells us when to wake up. Someone having this mechanizm broken would have a hard time with a natural selection since the first creatures that had a need for sleep. Now he decided that thos mechanizm is broken, for reazons, and we shpuld be using an alarm to forcefully restrict our sleep duration. Somehow this is supposed to improve our health.

This is a prime example of why studies and statistics are useless 99% of the time.
They're usually being made by complete imbeciles, and the peers doing "peer review" are imbeciles as well.
This specific case is a good example of a "wet streets cause rain" statistic.
People aren't getting sick or dying early from sleeping more. They sleep more because they are sick.
Those sleeping fewer hours only do so because they are healthier and don't need as much rest.
Sleep is needed for recovery. People who are sick need to sleep more.
Sleeping less wouldn't make them healthier, which is what the imbeciles that make and share studies like these seem to imply.

Yet, when it comes to studies, actuarial science is what matters. Most medical professionals and phd student who publish all those bs studies have no understanding of basic statistics. When it comes to sport science, it's hardly possible to find any studies without an erro in formular or calculations.
I have taken courses in ML. It isn't that hard. If you write your own algorithms, yes, you are a chad. If you just copy paste python code and do data cleaning, you are not a chad.

They literally state that in the paper it could be from sleep apnea. No reason to criticize them and call them "Imbeciles" for simply stating what they found. You should be blaming the media for clickbait headlines.
I also know for a fact that that you didn't read the paper. So you're the last person to be criticizing anything.

Ok, you are a chad. But nah, actuarial science is more than stats. It's mostly modelling and data analytics. You don't care much about the past, you predict the future. And yea, you use machine learning for that as well. You car insurace in calvulated using all your driving telemetrics, a lot of other data and AI models.
Look up actuarial exams and try so solve any exercises. And those are outdated methods.

When the cognitive decline comes and the higher risks of your body breaking down materialize. Also, I don't give a fuck do what you want, but if you're a moody cunt in general maybe tune down the smug and consider it a possibility.

You ever had one of those twice a year sleeps where you're just knocked out for like 9 or 10 solid hours and you feel like you're a fucking new human when you wake up?

No, its one of the few good studies, if its the UK or the Spanish one.
Enough people, for long enough time, across multiple education levels.
At its core, the data shows very little, but it shows that once you account for sleeping in time, there is a optimum for the human body.
Going below that means you have a underlying issue, and the same is true if you consistently go above. Which correlate with something we already know: Athletes sleep more when training harshly, but they then go back to a normal for maintenance periods.
>>77198825
No.
Instead I once a year get a night where I am a dying wreck, go to bed early because I am too much of a wreck to stay up til 10 or 11, and then wake up barely leaning towards rested.

In my personal experience I can sleep 7 a lot more consistently than 8. If I go for 8 I'll get like 2 days of it then a 5 and some other chaos. I think that might be as big as excessivr sleep or lack of it indicating other unwellness.

my bitch gf sleeps like 14 hours a day, will she please die soon? before you ask, the only reason i haven't just broken up with her is because she sleeps so much i don't have to put up with her shit as much and have too much time to cool off.

These anons are right. I sleep 9-12 hours a night. 9:23 - 8:00 yesterday.
I have a univentricular heart BTFO'ing my organs, leaving me with cardiac cirrhosis and progressive brain damage from a combination of cerebral microhemorrhages and oxygen deprivation from the formation of collaterals that render me increasingly hypoxic. Baseline saturation is 88-93% that dips to <80% under lifts.
Barring sudden cardiac death or a thromboembolic event, I have 5-10 years left.

You die faster because you feel better, it's life's automatic balancing to avoid anyone from getting too OP. Personally I prefer quality over quantity so I'll keep sleeping 10+ hours.

Having underlying health conditions forces your body to need more sleep in an attempt to recover, not the other way around ("sleeping more is deadly"), dumbass
If you need more sleep than average get a full, thorough health checkup instead of cutting down sleep and make shit worse

My average sleep duration since 2021 is 7 hours. I rarely sleep more than 8 hours because my body doesn't allow me to sleep that long, it wakes me up before 8 hours and I can't get back to sleep because I'm too alert.
