Back then people did high rep BWEs to failure and LISS jogging, yet they were bouncy and explosive like rubber balls. How can this be?

The truth isn't an anime. You can't just take off your weighted vest and suddenly become faster than sound. It's just boring ol tried and true training every time. Except when it's HIT that's probably the closest things have even come to breaking the mold even then in most cases it's modified to be closer to moderate or cycled in and out of with moderate training blocks.
