The whole site is declining; captchas are necessary on anonymous sites to reduce indians, but theyre only getting longer and more complex to make a single fucking post and at this point 99% of people would probably prefer an account but that would make avoiding bans harder and the difficulty of true moderation on this site is a huge part of what makes it what it is.

The issue is fundamentally that there aren't many people on this board anymore. It went from a very active, fast board like /tv/ to being slow as fuck with threads sometimes staying up for 2 fucking months. This is the case for most boards on this website with some exceptions, usually ones where /pol/-lite discussions can be had.

Fitness is really a mostly solved problem. There is infinitely more resources now and if you have a specific question it's better in 99% of cases to just ask chatgpt cause if you ask here you get 5 contradicting replies by DYEL retards that don't even know anything about the subject. The captcha and timeouts are absolutely linked with declining posts. 1% of extra friction means fewer posts, with fewer replies, which compounds year over year.
Not to mention they're implemented completely ass backwards. Bots don't care about waiting 60 seconds, and any new captcha is automated within a week.
They increase friction for humans and increase the ratio of bot posts.

Beyond that it's the aging demographic. The site hit it's non /b/ high point in the 2010s as the user's aged up a bit into their 20s and weren't so retarded.
Now the average age must be hitting well into the 30s on most boards.
The well adjusted that post every once in awhile have better things to do than fight captchas to shitpost.
So the board gets more toxic, echo-y, and slower.

Discord luring away posters and shit jannies are issues, but for anyone that isn't an addict or a bot, the site's just annoying to use, and as it gets slower it becomes even less interesting to fight to post on.

Region lock 4chan based on a similar system. The US, some Euro countries, Australia and Japan can get free reign; other countries will have limited or highly-scrutinized access; and some countries will be blocked entirely. Fitness culture in general is pretty dead. We went from dudes like Zyzz, Rich, Scooby and Aniki to Clavicular. It used to be about getting huge, broing out and being the best you can be. Now it's about being nonchalant and attempting to look the best instead of actually becoming your best. People like Zyzz had a real zest for life and wanted to make the most out of it. You can't make culture if you're afraid of failure, embarrassment and you're so irony poisoned that you can't be genuine.
