/iemg/ Dogma Check
Tired of the hivemind? Here’s your prescribed sanity dose:
>Crinacle is not your priest.
Rankings are a guide, not divine scripture. Your ears > his spreadsheet.
>Harman ≠ perfect.
It’s a preference curve, not a law of physics. Some genres need deviation.
>Chi-Fi isn’t magic.
Great value, yes. Immune to qc issues and hype cycles? Nah.
>Graphs are not sound.
They don’t show staging, dynamics, or fit. Use your ears, not just squigs.
>BA ≠ metallic, DD ≠ perfect.
Implementation matters more than driver type. Always has.
>Meme sets aren’t the whole hobby.
If it’s not shilled 24/7, it might still be good. It's highly encouraged to form an original opinion.
>Disagreeing ≠ cope or deaf.
Let people like what they like without foaming at the mouth.
>Loud posts =/= smart takes.
Confidence without experience is just noise. Show graphs, impressions, or both.
This has been your scheduled break from pos groupthink.

I have CCA Trio - Legendary 3DD, but the cable broke(outer layer broke in multiple places, mic fell apart same day). I would get another one but I feel like there must be higher quality cables, it was already getting very stiff and unwieldy for months now.
What cable(qdc) with microphone would you guys recommend? All the ones in guide seem to be without mic.

Reposting:
I'm extremely new and ignorant with this stuff:
I bought a set of Moondrop CHU II DSPs, alongside this cable: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DFM7CJ19 so I could use it via audio jack rather then the default USB C cable the IEMs come with (since I want to save my USB ports for other things, plus it sounds different/worse when connected to my PC via the default USB C cable). I like how they sound, which is great, but the cable is a little too short. The amazon listing has a longer cable size option, which I went ahead and ordered, but it just arrived and the pins that connect to the actual earpieces are too receded/short to connect
Does anybody know of another 3.5mm audio jack IEM cable I can use with the CHU II's that has a cable length longer then 1.2m? Or what the name/size of the pin type it uses is so I know what cables to search for?

Anyone know of other eartips like this where the stem is really short and nothing prevents nozzles from threading through the eartip? I want the eartip to be flush with the bore but many tips prevent this by keeping the nozzle slightly recessed inside the eartip

Thanks for suggestion anon. 400$ is a huge sum of money in my country, so I don't really want to overpay for some small difference in sound quality. I heard that Turthear Pure and Simgot EW300 could be a huge improvement from the IEMs that I have, so I'm looking for them or smth similar

Pure is going to be most lower mid focused and probably the easiest to EQ to whatever you want if you have that option. However it is a multi driver setup so you may have some funkiness with the impedance curve(maybe) also its distortion metrics may not be the best. Overall it is the most competent tuning
>Aria 2
Slightly smoother upper treble but worse mids and bass than the OG Aria
>EW300DSP
just a really shitty patch on a decent but mediocre single iem. This one is probably the worst in terms of objectivity. The DSP cable is most likely not going to be as good as a dedicated DAC and there isn’t any real advanced FR manipulation going on. I would avoid.

The problem is that every store has its clone, so it's hard to track them. You can find some measurements on squiglink but you won't know what you'll get. But if you have a coupler and you like the comfort of that shell... it might be worth it.

hopefully you guys will know:
i found my old SanDisk Sansa Clip+. what's the largest microSD card it can take? IS there an upper limit?
i found older forum threads and there seems to be some debate. it's not clear if specs/reviews were only saying 'up to 32 GB' because that was the largest capacity card at the time.
supposedly there is a limit of 5,000 songs in the stock firmware, but Rockbox fixes that.

While it wasn't in the manual, it appears to only support SDHC, which is capped at 32gb.
But even if you could go higher, a lot of these small players will start lagging and crashing with too much music to index.

ESS is my vodka martini . ESS chips bring the most detail and clarity. It’s neutral leaning, transparent, and at times, almost sibilant. I hear every layer of music the clearest here, but for long listening sessions it can get tiring. However for me, this feels like the cleanest and most transparent representation of music. The “ESS hump” that’s talked about is gone in modern renditions, and the more modern take of the chip (BTR17) tries to add a touch of warmth when compared to older models.
Cirrus Logic DACs present itself as a nice craft beer. CS chips feel a bit smoother than the ESS chips, but the space and air around the sound gets tighter. I find the this chip to sit between the ESS and AKM chip in terms of vocal warmth, but because it makes the soundstage tighter I don’t really enjoy listening to CS DACs as much. The K11 adds some airiness back, but when listening to more complex soundscapes I find that it is easier to separate the instruments on my BTR17. Funny enough, recent renditions of this chip brought in a “CS Hump” due to DRE, but most DACs have since patched this with firmware updates.
AKM can be described as a smooth whisky . It tries to brings back the soundstage while having a velvety organic sound. I love listening to this with simple vocal ballads. It sounds pure, loudness never turns into harshness, and nothing is over-presented. That said, it still lacks detail, maybe on par with the CS chips or even slightly under.
Now, for my listening, I tend to prefer my AKM DAC for nighttime sessions and overall enjoyment of music. ESS is my desktop active listening device, and the CS sits in between as an easy listen if I want to change up devices.
I’ve heard all DACs are the same. They’re not. They’re not going to change the sound of music as much as swapping your IEMs, but they definitely do affect characteristics of what your IEMs will present to you.
Ty for listening to my TED talk.

i've been having a blast with the cheap shit, but i'm wondering at what price point the treble starts to sound normal again. i've tried:
> zero:red
> zero:2
> truthear gate
> truthear pure
> defiant
> crinear daybreak
> aful explorer
> arpegear hane
most of these have shit treble, and it's the only part of the sound holding them back from being excellent. i think it's a driver limitation because eq doesn't seem to fix it. only the hane and daybreak sound like they even have the detail at the top end of treble, though the daybreak is too harsh.
i've got a dunu titan x on the way. any other recs?
>>
>>108212463
>i've got a dunu titan x on the way. any other recs
how did you decide on the titan x?
also, do yourself a favor and do a quick hearing test, see what frequency your hearing maxes out at.
daybreak isn't supposed to be shouty, it's tuned to JM-1. the common denominator isn't "driver limitation", it's you.
>>
>>108212646
> how did you decide on the titan x?
head-fi reviews. some say it's got good and natural treble extension, some say it doesn't. for $30 i can afford to find out for myself, or just return it if i hate it.
> what frequency your hearing maxes out at
my hearing is fine, i max out around 18k.
> daybreak isn't supposed to be shouty
i don't find the daybreak shouty, i find it too bright. it's pretty great otherwise, although a bit overpriced for the casing+cable quality.
> it's you
my hd600 reproduce treble just fine
>>

>>
>>
>>
>>108212729
>i find it too bright
harsh, shouty, bright...does his happen on the same tracks you should be testing and A/Bing with your different pos? which of your pos is the worst in the treble on one track, where another one of your pos sounds just fine with the same track?
could it be some of the audio you choose to listen to is mixed harsh?

Yes they do. A frequency response is literally sound. Just because you can't interpret graphs doesn't mean you can spew nonsense like any audiophool

Only insofar that implementation is off the mark (which it shouldn't be in 2026 yet here we are)
DD > planar > BA in literally every metric given the same FR

True. Eg. Your post
At the end of the day the IEM hobby is still miles behind the speaker hobby but at least miles ahead of the headphone hobby.
But basically, if you guys actually want to hear the potential of truly good audio equipment get some genelec or neumann speakers and listen to them about 1 meter away from your head, 1 meter apart and 0.5 meters from the front wall (the wall their back is facing)
Once you understand and get used to that sound you can actually develop a decent INFORMED opini

>>108212463
finally someone had the balls to say it, I've only heard accurate treble out of my mega5-est, the rest above and below in terms of price is just weird, I think it starts to get normal again around the 1.4k USD mark.
>>
>>108212881
i've got a 13 track playlist that varies in mastering style, some great some shit. some of it is mixed too harsh, those i expect to sound harsh.
of all the iems i listed only the daybreak sounds too bright. arpegear hane is the only one i would say sounds fine and totally natural. the defiant is also pretty good, but the scooped mids make it sound less detailed than the hane. aful explorer is too dark for my taste. the rest under $90 just have low quality treble - sounds like a de-esser or some mild distortion/aliasing happening in the high treble.
>>108213061
neat. i've heard good things about those. sad you haven't found anything under $1.4k with normal treble. it's tough to justify more than $300 on IEMs, but if it means I can sell $5k of headphones then maybe it's worth it. at the high-end of the iem market i've also considered the 64 Ears U4S per John from JDS Labs recommendation.
what do you like about the mega5-est?
>>
>>108213048

stick with the one you enjoy the most. don't expect to get much more out of it unless you are really curious and want to experiment- tune it to JM-1.
I'm purposefully trying to avoid telling you to just EQ the treble because you already can enjoy an iem's treble for what it is without touching it, no reason to dive deep into constantly adjusting and making all of your iems replay the same. take your time, give it another year and take the time to decide if you really need an upgrade by then

The initial plan failed because m4 gets recognized as two 2-channel DACs, not one 4-channel DAC, and there's something fucked up with the drivers, it keeps looping a chunk of audio after you press pause. There's no aggregate device functionality, voicemeeter works but the latency is noticeable. Wintoddlers btfo I guess. Moved on directly to Scream streaming but it was too unstable over wifi. As the last resort I'll try turning zero into a usb dac and output to motu through it, if this works through a usb hub, if it doesn't it's over.

Nvm, if you output through asio you can get a decent latency and no glitches. But you need voicemeeter banana to actually output to 4 asio channels. And you need voicemeeter windows volume app to make system volume work, voicemeeter breaks it. Absolute bullshit, but works.

His claim they''re the best depends on the assumption more open = better which is not even true. Now you're stuck with uncomfortable pos with a dogshit cable. Repeat his steps with any normal IEM and you'll much better results. In case you still have doubts he already moved on from these IEMs to shockz tws.

>Why wouldn't it be easy
I'm talking about comfortable listening levels pretty much. cranking it up just to get to audible doesn't really translate to 'easily getting to'. the only volume I cranked was the volume slider by the frequency slider
>>
>>108222765
What does a "comfortable listening level" mean in the context of playing a single infrasonic tone in a tone generator >>108216251? You play infrasonic tones often?

Use speakers WITH A FLAT FREQUENCY RESPONSE IN NEAR FIELD
Otherwise you'll have an equally shit opinion as all these non-speaker shitters itt who have no idea what their music is actually supposed to sound like

>>

Complete ignorant newfag here, which of these cheapo type-C IEMs do I buy:
>TANCHJIM BUNNY
or
>MOONDROP CHU II
Usecase is wired earphones for my iPhone and multiple Windows computers, so I can properly enjoy FLAC albums without my wireless buds or headset crunching them up to 256kbps.
I do have an Android phone to set up the EQ from the Moondrop app, I've done a bit of research on that at least.
