Japan seems to have had beige electronics made for much longer (and not including stuff meant to be throwbacks). I've got a beige Realforce keyboard that could be (and has been) easily mistaken for a 90s or early 2000s keyboard until you see that it has Windows 10-era Start keys.

So I have an antique style desk like pic related
I can't do VESA mounts or anything like that because the edges are shallow and irregular.
Any tips on maximizing desk space and fitting a PC rig on it?
Biggest problem when putting a monitor and keyboard only barely fits and cramped because the desk is not that wide.
How can I maximize the space or add to it?

back in the day crt monitors took up a lot of depth, so it was common to need a stand or dedicated "computer desk" that let the keyboard go under it
you can still get such stands just shallower for modern displays since they're still useful as extra space in general, like to put away a kb/mouse to use the desk for other purposes, though if you're really pinched for space you could just use the kb/mouse under the stand

Frens, after years and years I really started to hate stationary stuff. I want to move constantly and do computing stuff outside. But I don't want to walk around like Inspector Gadget. I've looked up some options and the situation is kind of hopeless. I have my Samsung phone (and maybe I can add a bluetooth keyboard)
Positive: Since I need my phone anyway only keyboard is a little bit problem.
Negative: Small screen, ARM architecture + locked down Android, I can't root because of banking and stuff.
Maybe I can connect to a remote VPS or cloud or something like codespaces but it's still has a small screen.
I also considered buying a better phone but still it's still gonna be a phone after all, small screen etc. Maybe I should consider tablets or a small notebook.
Could anyone experienced say something?
>>
>>108217415
I have a desk very similar to this. I can't advise trying to turn it into a computer setup. The space for legs can't fit a normal computer chair, and you'll either be leaning really far to get to the keyboard, bumping your knees on the underside of the desk all the time, or both. Terrible experience.

IDK what in the hell I'm really doing with that PC.
The latest intention was to use it to stress test HDD before going into my NAS but with the way HDDs prices are that's likely not happening soon.
As it stands right now, it's just a PC that gets used when I go over to that table.

don't get me wrong, i'm a bit jealous. while win98 wasn't my first os, our first family pc came with 98se, so it's significant to me as well (i've been a massive nerd as long as i can remember, so i had several of my own garage sale shitbox machines before my parents even considered a family computer)
>>
File: file.jpg (3.8 MB)
3.8 MB JPG
>>108236325
i think the first os i ever interacted with was DOS on my moms old monochrome green tandy that her secretary used for accounting. im heartbroken that the computer got thrown out about 20 years ago, but i managed to find a diskette case with a c drive backup, quicken, norton, deskmate, dos 5.0, and windows 3.1. i dont have a floppy drive atm so i cant test them, but once im done buying tools im going to start buying some older retro stuff to play around with.
im most sad that the crt is gone. even though it was a monochrome beige box, i have fond memories of it because that was the first time id ever seen a computer work.
>>
>>108236398
that's pretty cool you still have some remnants from it. after many a year of service i threw out that original family pc (the only family pc, actually, my parents almost never used it, and my only sibling/sister wasn't into computers either), "i" because it became my own computer eventually, but it replaced it, and eventually it stopped being useful even as a secondary machine.
it's funny how things tend to have a reverse bell curve in how valuable they are, like there's a point where they're so worthless people tend to throw them out, but if you keep them just a bit longer, they start to become valuable again, for nostalgia or collecting purposes.
i have a vivid memory of that machine just sitting there half-gutted on the side of the car port, a worthless beige dell box.
i kept its' crt longer, but had to give it up during a move
>>
>>108233447
LTT has like 8x more subs and most of it's viewers are clueless, not even realizing CRTs exist and get the urge to get one now
LGR has a lot of similar "I'm retarded and like retro tech tho" viewers, who usually know what CRTs are at least, might even own one

I've been taking a crack at making an entertainment center and I wanna make it a surround sound setup. However, I'm kinda stumped on what display I should get, since I don't really feel like getting a (((smart))) display. Any tips on where I could find a big screen that doesn't come with some bizarre version of ChromeOS or whatever?

>How'd you get an honest to God physical terminal working with your machine?
while i haven't done it myself, as far as i know, the only gotcha is knowing the difference between "5v TTL" serial, which most people today know as "serial", and /real/ RS-232 serial, which uses +/-15v signal levels. as long as you have something in between to translate between modern "ttl serial" levels and rs-232 serial levels, it should just work. linux supports tons of old terminals at a software level
>>
>>
>>108236825
>since I don't really feel like getting a (((smart))) display. Any tips on where I could find a big screen that doesn't come with some bizarre version of ChromeOS or whatever?
Why though? Don't connect it to the internet and it will be a 'normal' dumb display. Other options are some bigger monitors made from TV panels, commercial displays and projectors.

>Is the machine on the left a dedicated workstation or something?
My original intention was that I would use it to test/burn in HDDs before going into my NAS proper. It still can be used for that but with how much HDDs are, it's unlikely for awhile.
Other then that it really is just a second PC from spare that gets used when I go over there.

yeah
my phone has color correction issues so its a pain to take a photo that represents the actual lighting, I had to photoshop it a little. this is why I don't bump every thread with a (new) picture without a prompt. the cap puller was there for a reason... fuck razer keyboards, typing on an aliexpress ajazz rn, moved the keycaps too. the ones in the pic are lovely and reliable.

Big computer is nice, but the I can use the small computer while in bed.
>>
>>
how do some of you get this bored that you have time to match your computer case to your walls and inject little potted plants and shit into your PC setup.
anytime i have that i am not working i am learning something or playing something, i couldnt imagine having the time to put little plants on my desk and make it all cutesy and matchy.
im not asmon tier, but the closest thing i get to having a cutesy plant, is a leftover piece of broccoli from the chinese place down the street.
are these guys ITT the californians that are ruining everything while making jose do all the work?

It's just standard Android/One UI, my Galaxy Tab A8 doesn't support Samsung's desktop mode, DeX, but thankfully it supports floating windows, and the edge panel on the side feels just like a taskbar with autohide enabled, so it works.

Mark your computer on this thread.

I kinda want to gut an old ThinkPad to use as a keyboard with an extra monitor embedded into it. A widescreen model will be better because of the less tall screen. And I'd use the bay for an optical drive.

Not waifu. I just bought it because I like big tit anime girls. I like to think that these hentai figurines are littleand modern versions of those Italian statues of naked women.

Dude I have several nazi flags, several iron crosses displayed and even a nazi eagle but I don't spend 24/7 with trannies living rent free inside my mind. Is everthing ok in home?

NTA, but if you're terminally at your computer, ultrawide is life-changing. I got the 59 inch samsung neo g9 or something, which might or might not be the same as >>108217522 and while I'm cheap as fuck if it died tomorrow I'd buy another one without thinking about it.
It is extremely useful to be able to be able to extend the windows you work with without the bars or the god forsaken "adjust to screen" that multiple monitor setups bring. I always thought people that ultrawide was the dumbest shit but it is really really good.

Necessary sacrifice for speaker placement.

You bet. Not as bad anymore with the leather having gone quite soft.
>>108274161
Old chair, I regularly maintain the leather though. As long as it's not actually broken I'll keep using it, it's really comfy and I've already used it as a /bst/ chair for around 10 years.

Yeah, they were originally part of a expensive living room / projector home cinema setup. Have the matching leg rests too but a little too big for under the table, the small stool works better.
>>108273192
>>108275228
To add to that, the screens being far apart does actually give a rather nice boxed in feel, like you're in a bubble and less aware of the room around you.
