Write a "mousemover" Software, but after 10 min or so, it starts teams and starts messaging everyone in the list "I am a lazy fucking piece of shit, gooning to underage hentai doujins while I work and purposefully ignoring incoming requests and mails."

Should I make the jump and start learning how to scam companies by selling them agents and shit?
Been a code monkey for the last 4 years but it looks like this shit is going nowhere and the only growth now is in companies selling AI tools.

I am so unemployable that I can't even get a job through nepotism
>uncle is an executive at some local manufacturing company
>tell him that I got laid off 8 months ago and am struggling to find a job in tech
>he says he'll set me up with some full time do nothing job at the company, but the pay is shit
>okay whatever
>gives me the contact info for the stacy at the staffing company
>"Oh hey you're the cousin of (uncle), right? yeah he's great"
>skips me to the front of the queue above 13 other applicants
>"yeah just do this drug test and we'll do a background check and you can start next week"
>someone breaks an expensive machine on the floor and it's going to take over a month to fix
>an even higher up exec puts a pause on all hiring in that department because production is cut in half until the machine is fixed
>stacy tells me I won't be able to start for a long time
>BUUUT there's another opening in a different department, you just have to interview with HR becky. this job pays better and it involves computers, but you need to actually do work
>okay whatever
>interview with the becky
>it goes okay, but she keeps telling me I'm overqualified for this job
>don't get the role
>find out I was "the benchmark" - the role was already earmarked for someone else. There were only 2 candidates in consideration, the job wasn't even listed online
>the other candidate was a family friend of becky
>mfw I got out nepo'd
>come back to stacy
>any chance there's an opening in the IT department at all, even for helpdesk shit?
>"no sorry the leader of the IT department is a 60 year old boomer that won't even consider candidates without a bachelors degree. We've tried before, he refuses them all."

They probably got chatgpt to write it for them because as retarded as it is, they're still not smart enough to write all that out and if they were smart, they'd realize how retarded their post is
Its like those cringe videos of an indian approaching a woman and doing something retarded like a handstand to impress her
They are perpetually on the "mount stupid" side of the dunning kruger effect, doing and saying the most retarded shit thinking they are a genius as smooth as butter when the only thing smooth about them is the surface of their brain

>Now that all programming is done by AI, you need this other AI that will also tell you what to program with AI! Shipping the right features to customers is hard, get our feature analytics streamlining AI to do it for you!
>meanwhile the programming AI
Seriously though. What do you think about AI's ability to replace our noble craft? It is obvious that it will at some point. At some point people will be able to scientifically achieve immortality too.
But when? 10 years? 20? I mean to one shot an actual commercial app and be trusted in production. I say one shot specifically because, the way I see it, if it can't one shot an app, it can't do shit. If it can't one shot them, then it would just add more and more mistakes when fixing bugs anyway.
Bear in mind that, due to the way language models work, they have inherent limitations that will be there no matter how far they advance. Their goal is by definition to output text that is statistically plausible as a response to the input, nothing else. For example, it lies because it has no concept of the truth and is not trying to tell the truth, never will unless its with a fundamentally different technology. The same could apply to making code actually work. This could either be no big deal and it could still be viable by fine tuning it, or it could be a fundamental limitation of LLMs that makes it impossible.
This is a conversation most people can't have. The investors who believe AGI is around the corner are clueless, normies think all tech workers are already out of a job and crying and saying "ohh i should've learned to plumb!". They're retarded. Only we can meaningfully discuss this.
>>
>>
>>108235403
And why is it bad exactly?
Your DB will have a dedicated machine anyway, so it's not like it will have a shortage of resources.
Also Postgres is so feature rich you'd have to be dumb to use anything else as your starter.

I've requested a meeting with the manager. Is it smart to ask him to fire me during probation so I can collect unemployment for a while? I don't think it will work out this job is giving me depression. The colleagues being literally burned out or working themselves into a burnout are also very discouraging to see.

the saddest part about AI is that the only reason it's shilled so hard is because technological innovation is completely dead
there is nothing else to discuss
if we were still progressing at the same rate as from the 90s-2010s we would be talking about quantum computers or some shit right now, but instead we've spent the last 15 years on bullshit like blockchain and nfts and ai

This makes no sense, what a fucking stupid pajeet.
"Strict policies" and then he brings up security questions. Nobody thinks good security is about complexity. Nobody creates super secure passwords. What he said should be done is basically the same he was saying is bad (strict policies). Humans use any security if humans are using the app.
The reason this text is so retarded is because he used AI, and AI only worries about wording and how it sounds, not the underlying meaning. This is the fool proof way to recognize AI regardless of dashes or writing style.
And the worst part is even white NPCs probably won't notice.

The thing that pisses me off about the AI craze is I haven't found a tool utilizing AI that was actually like "wow, this is impressive." yet every fucking executive and their mom is trying to force it down everyone's throat. Like fuck man this technology is way premature and every vendor is giving shit products with half-assed feature but no let's just add a crap fucking AI feature that can't seem to understand any prompt into the tool. yup! that will totally work instead of making a better streamlined process with some "dumb" processes.

Don't worry about that. It's literally useless thanks to AI. If you ever have to find a job again it's nothing to grind LC for 2 weeks and be totally up to speed. They're just brain teasers and math problems pretending to be programming it almost has nothing to do with software at all.

I've had to do this twice now, it's nothing. How would it be "stupid" to be able to master LC in a few weeks, that isn't a discipline you dumbass. We still have TWG?
Isn't it the fucking apocalypse for the entire tech worker industry?

>Learn to weld
Here's my secret sauce:
For every 2 welding students that graduate, 5 welders retire.
330,000 NEW welding jobs expected to open up by 2028.
>Why welding?
We are fairly far away from AI enabled welder replacement. Best AI humanoids can barely do a load of laundry right now.
They can't handle 1G welds on a flat table, and don't even get me started on the actual hard stuff.
Besides. New AI robots are going to break, inevitably.
Who's repairing them?
New datacenters all over the place, who's building them?
Sure, robots, eventually, but maintaining machines of metal has always been a welder's job.
Being a human doctor has value.
Soon, being a robot doctor will have value.
Who are the robot doctors?
^
If you want to jump ship early on the tech industry, before you have to fight all the other lemmings, get into welding NOW.
You'll be behind if you wait 12-24 months from now.
If you're looking at the grim, unyielding approach, of the end of your career, at the hands of clankers and clanker advancement, here's your one golden ticket sign.
Go down with the ship, or get out on a speedboat. Your call.

Mind you, I'm not out of tech.
It's just not my bread maker.
What's going to make me more money, this Strix Halo system, or that MIG corner joint?
^
Tech is now on hobby status.
Welding is where the money gets made.
Doesn't mean, I can't play with local AI and do what I want.
No boss. No corporate.
Just me, and a completely blank page. I can code whatever I want.
Life is cushy, fun, and I hope none of you guys are dead ending into tech on false hope.
If you don't make your escape route, no one else will.
>>
>>
>>
>>108237278
Most welding certification programs are 18-24 months for all inclusive.
Stick, TIG, MIG.
There are standalone welding certifications, where you pay money and go pass a test. D11
How you go is your choice. There are options.
Multi-process welding units that are decent cost $700-1500.
You can get a full welding setup, and protective gear, for less money than you have to spend to get a decent PC these days.
Just take care, it's more dangerous than a bench tech job. You aren't worried about ESD, you're worried about toxic fumes, molten steel spatter, sparks, and arc flashes.
All issues alleviated with proper gear and safety.
Don't be a dumbass, and it's not any harder than laptop repair, in practice.
>>
>>
>>108237304
As a guy who's done both fields.
Cell phone repair and laptop repair are more tedious than most weldments.
If you can handle that type of tech work, you will probably find welding relaxing and easy after a little practice.
You'll need to develop your 3D awareness for fabrication/construction a bit.
Welding work is real world, but it's a skill, which means there are tons of tricks.
Let's be honest, most of the blue collar welder guys aren't knowledgeable on the kinds of things you guys are.
They don't think about the EMF fields, though they should. They don't think about how the MIG circuit wire spool being physically fed, equates the wire feed speed to amperage, because the moving wire in physical space, is still just electrons moving through a point in space. (In MIG you adjust wire feed speed, instead of amperage. Functionally the same, both are just the amount of electrons moving through a space, if you're moving the entire wire that contains the electrons, that's current still.)
The only thing better than a welder at welding is a smarter welder.
There aren't clankers in the field yet, meaning if you're a smart human, you can get in and out perform.
>>
>>108237331
For aluminum TIG, I very much doubt that shit.
For factory MIG, yeah.
There are levels of welding.
Ain't no way in hell you're paying the TIG guys that low, or the 6G pipe welders.
If their pay is that low, you have a national issue.

Politics are a very significant factor in our jobs though, and so are women.
Right now tech is very unregulated. Let me explain, doctors make most of their money through extortion, in the sense that the government is enforcing license requirements to be a doctor, which limits their competition. They do this to make sure doctors have certain standards and are skilled of course, but are they overdoing it by not letting more people study medicine, deliberately? I think they probably are. Same with landlords, and actually a lot of people who make money.
Tech workers are not the same way. The only "license" we have that other people don't is literally the fact that programming involves some problem solving and can't be learned by repetition. If it could, we would not be employed and everything software related would be done in india since the 90s.
Now should it be regulated, so we can make more money via extortion like landlords and doctors? Well some people think it should. I'm not sure. Everyone else seems to be doing it, and we seem to be the ones having free market competition.
As to women. Everyone knows they're stupid and very bad programmers. And them being in our offices just makes them a hostile place for ugly nerds, because they want to "get the creeps out eww". Some women explicitly admit to ask HR to hire men who are likeable turbonormies as opposed to dorks who would be competent and make things work.

Im alive for another 30 years.
Do I want to toil on tech, jumping through hoops for some corporation, taking trainings that are glorified PowerPoint slides about how to not be retarded?
Or...
Learn a skill that's so valuable, it's recession proof, AI proof, boons in warfare or industrial development, AND is growing BECAUSE of the AI boom taking tech jobs?
Idunno, tough decision, let me go pass this phishing training and this password safety module really quick, then I'll think about it.

I was hired to modernize a legacy Java banking app with a small, long-term team. The app is painfully slow and dated. Surprisingly, my senior dev buddy supports updating it, but I want to ensure the rest of the team feels respected rather than forced.
My background is Next.js/TS. A friend in fintech loves Rust, and I’m considering pushing for that. I do not know the language yet, but I am confident we could learn it quickly. The alternative is choosing something that is easier for Java developers to transition to.
>Just stay on Java.

what is worse is that they genuinely believe it is in their best interest to use it... far worse is the fact that a part of that population believes consumer side stuff is possible of practical ai applications, when in actual reality it is just a novelty that masks itself as learning intellingence, it didn't learn shit, it just regurgitated what was already out on the public search engines, and it loosely sticks to a percent of concetrated context which only degrades every prompt... that is not intellence by a mile... it is just a broader search engine.

Fun Fact: In the Canadian military, you can actually do this.
Travel to and from a military activity is counted as military activity, so if you get injured during it and it's not your direct fault, you can file claims as if you were hurt while on duty. You don't get a medal or anything, but you can get the fabled Pension For Life Medical Release if you get fucked up in a car accident on the way to a parade or something like that.

I've been pretending to understand my job for eight months and I think I've finally reached a level where I actually can't fake it anymore. Do I come clean to my boss or just keep going.
So for context, I have a master's degree in something completely unrelated to this job, I got hired because I interviewed well and apparently "fast learner" on a CV is legally binding. Eight months in and I've been surviving entirely on confident nodding, strategic use of the phrase "let me circle back on that," and a browser history that is just Stack Overflow and "what is [word my boss just said]." The issue is that up until now the stakes have been low enough that vibes could carry me. That era has ended. There is a meeting on Monday with actual numbers and actual questions and my boss just told me I'm "leading it" in a tone that suggested he thinks that's a reward. I have four days. I don't know if I should come clean, speed-run eight months of learning in 96 hours, or simply walk into the ocean. What should I do?

i have pretty regular crises of conscience like that at night but then i go in the next day and my own boss is at some point like "I don't know how this works, no one knows how this works"
back when i was sailing more actively there was a common piece of advice about "Sea Training"/"work-ups" -- if someone in a red hat* asks you a question, and you don't know the answer, the correct answer is "I'll find out."
it's been a common joke for ages that any manner of tech work from customer support to writing something one step up from an outright electrical diagram is mostly combing through documentation, but really it's true.
however, in talking, we come to the crux of the matter
>my boss just told me I'm "leading it" in a tone that suggested he thinks that's a reward. I have four days. I don't know if I should come clean, speed-run eight months of learning in 96 hours,
I would ask the boss what the meeting is very specifically about and go line by line through the agenda to figure out a plan. even if you did have encyclopedic knowledge, you would at least need cue cards for a presentation. and for all you've told us, it could just be an overview of specs and budgets. all the more reason to just get those hard numbers as currently recorded, do some casual sanity checking, and do some experimentation only on the stuff that doesn't make immediate sense

I've been at my new job for about a month and don't know how to feel. All of my coworkers are nice, I have a decent salary, it's remote, not a lot of meetings, but it's a bit disorganised and it's kinda vague as to what I'm supposed to be doing at any given moment. At the moment I'm just kinda doing random fixes here and there as I wait for code reviews to go through. The team is very small so if someone gets sick, you're not merging anything to the master branch. The codebase is also a big mess and has quite a lot of deferred maintenance, performance issues, etc.

been with my team 6 years, 3 since an acquisition. post-buyout they made the other guy senior and kept me as a regular dev even though we do the exact same work. asked for the title change a while back (didn't even ask for a raise) and got hit with "we don't want too many seniors on one team."
our lead just quit. instead of finally promoting me, management is hiring an external senior dev. the absolute worst part? they told me I have to interview the candidates as a "learning experience."
is it normal to interview your own superior? feels like I'm getting completely cucked. they want me to do senior-level technical evaluations for a guy who's going to outrank me and make way more money. I want to walk out but the market is complete dogshit right now. what do I even do here anons, just do the bare minimum and grind leetcode?

we don't even have a formal HR department. it's literally just a 3-man dev team. before we got bought out, all three of us had the exact same title. then new management stepped in and decided we needed a "formal structure." the oldest guy got lead, the guy who had been here literally just a few months longer than me got senior, and I got stuck at base dev.
their official excuse was "we can't have a 3-man team where two of them are seniors" so I got arbitrarily shafted to the bottom of the totem pole. so it's not HR, it's just braindead management forcing a corporate hierarchy on a tiny team.

In the airforce thats real hit and miss since you do alot more people's jobs and can add speciality stuff to your resume. Then on the other hand not working your main job really hampers you if your job is Networking, Radio/Radar/Satellite, and Server Admin. I was a networking tech so i played alot of catch up in the basecom(main communications unit) by doing a fuckload of work.

Ah yes, having to rescue a Windows disk by making a disk image, mount it into my work laptop, make a copy of that backup as an original and then slowly remove or replace everything that exists in that partition that made it unbootable for a medical facility that really needs it.
Why do medical people never think about making backups regularly?
I fucking hate these people, it will cost a lot for them, then they will complain it costs so much.
Why not just pay some money on the side and set up a veeam backup routine to back up that shit to a nas at least regularly on a 7 to 14 day basis?
