Thread #108237506
>Not sure what private trackers are all about?
A private tracker is an invite-only torrent website. Each member shares common goals: collecting, preserving and discussing media.

Dunno about other people's setup, but for me I like being able to organize it differently than my download dir. I enjoy naming my download dir in a different way the what jellyfin requires. Also, I don't like renaming the files I download, so by having a separate dir for jellyfin, I can just use symbolic links pointing to the original files but with names that will be parsed by jellyfin. This way I can keep seeding the files while also having them available on my instance.

I'm not a third worlder so I don't use one

this kind of applies to every tracker with powertripping staff
>no content organization whatsoever
what do you think is lacking exactly?
>very difficult to ascertain the difference between uploads for the same book/filetype
same question, I haven't had issues with these latter two

On MAM suppose I look up a book like 1984.
What SHOULD happen is that the search page returns results along with a singular group for the book 1984. If I click on this group page I should see some basic information about the book like the author, the year it was published, a description, a cover, etc. Then I should also see the various torrents for this book with some kind of logical organization, maybe by language and then by ebook/audiobook.
I should also see the collections this book is part of, for instance let's say there's a big torrent of all the books by this author.
MAM should also enforce some kind of slot system to ensure they aren't getting dupe uploads of the same exact content but with different scans.
That's how searching would work on any other gazelle or UNIT3D based site. Instead what happens is that I search for 1984 and I get a bunch of uploads of the book and then random incomplete compilations that include it, with zero information on the difference between any of these uploads.

Saaars I have a question
I wasnt interested in TV series until now, but I realized the only good tracker f that I have is Aither, but I have shit ratio there 0.60, never paid much attention to it, any tips f that tracker or any other mid tier trackee suggestion for tv series. Thanks
>>
>>108243042
MTV is ratioless and mirrors BTN. Then BTN, HDB, BHD are the top 3 unless you want older stuff in which case TVV is pretty good but has a tougher economy than all the rest. If you can't get in the top ones though, join MTV

I should make it clear, FLUX = BHD internal, NTb = BTN internal. If you can't get those trackers TL will get you the latest episodes fast anyway so I do recommend it.

For games there is a much stronger culture surrounding scene release collecting than almost anything else. Besides that there's distrust of any kind of software that has been modified from it's original scene released form. That's a kind of boomer brained way of looking at things and there are other ways to verify but it's unlikely to change anytime soon.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108243566
This could be instantly solved by NFOs including the hash of the extracted ISO file so anyone can tell if it's been modified.
And yes I understand scene groups aren't going to start doing things to cater to torrent sites but it's already retarded that they don't do this as is. NFOs are pretty comprehensively archived so there's no need to then do the same for the associated game files.
>>108243029
On GGN your name will be hidden from the torrent but all of your uploads can still be found from your profile, assuming you have your paranoia set to allow that. Not sure how it works on other trackers.

There's also the problem of scene game rars being compressed so they're much harder to rebuild from srr files than video rars.
>>
>>108243757
Maybe you have an api key problem. I went through that when I first started using redcurry. Since I fucked up at first and did it wrong my IP got blocked by RED for API usage and I had to send a staff PM to get it fixed once I realized what I did wrong.

Well the rotating IP isn't a problem. They use CDNs so when you force it to a single IP you're just forcing it to always use the same node. But it's going to be a bit of a bitch if you're doing this for every single server one by one. What you're going to want to do is figure out why DNS resolution is fucking up in python specifically.
>>108243881
I'm a Linux user myself. Former Windows user.
>>
>>108243893
if you can use curl you can try resolving through that to see if its just python or a system wide issue.
if your browser works fine you probably have a different dns server set up in it specificly.
advice for the future: just permaswitch to quad9 systemwide.
>>
>>108243964
i don't know how python on windows works but you just deleted a package responsible for asynchronous dns queries.
IDK why it worked for you, but honestly it's probably a conflicting package issue or something, and deleting it made it fallback to a working version.
did you update your python/salmon today before starting or not?
your python is probably borked.

YO LISTEN UP PTP IS TRASH TIER NOW! Just Disney capeshit and superhero spam on repeat... like a broken DVD player stuck on Marvel! HUNO? Bhai that's REAL TRACKER LIFE! Ratio tension ZERO! 5Mbps upload speed? Still download 20+ torrents daily, no sweat! Building your movie library? 100% guaranteed easy! Their WEB-DLs? Size chhota, quality TOP-NOTCH! No cap!
HUNO INTERNALS? HONE WEB drops new movies/shows faster than street samosa sells out! PTP makes you seed 24/7 like a slave... HUNO treats you like family! Bollywood, Hollywood, South Indian, Anime, TV... PTP mein nahi milega! Variety king hai yaar!
Other trackers overhyped? Whatever. But HUNO... community solid, retention pro level, uploads fire! Life mein agar ek tracker chahiye... SEEDBOX nahi... toh HUNO ke bina kya rakha hai? PTP join karke regret hoga! HUNO MUST-HAVE. PERIOD.

Arre bhaiya, HUNO tracker is too much underrated only, yaar! Salute to this tracker’s simplicity – full fairness for all types of users, even if your upload speed is slower than my uncle’s Tata Nano! 5Mbps ke saath bhi, you can download 20+ torrents daily, no ratio tension-shension! Perfect for building your personal movies/TV library, 100% guaranteed! Their web-dl and HEVC encodes? Size mein chhota, quality mein mota!
And their internals? HONE WEB releases are top-class, bhai! New movies and episodes drop faster than Mumbai monsoon rains! Other new trackers getting hype? Good for them, but HUNO speaks quality-quality everywhere – torrents, community, retention… total package only! If you don’t have this tracker, life mein kya rakha hai? Secondary ho ya main, must-have hai!
>>
Oh, you’re still on Huno? That’s adorable.
Meanwhile, the enlightened few are thriving on Cabal trackers, where the bitrate flows like ambrosia and the encodes don’t look like they were compressed through a potato. Cabal isn’t just a tracker ecosystem — it’s a meritocracy. You seed, you contribute, you rise. Novel concept, I know.
On Huno, people celebrate uploading a WEB-DL like they just restored lost cinema. On Cabal, that’s Tuesday before breakfast. Internal groups actually care. Proper naming. Accurate mediainfo. Thoughtful curation. It’s not chaos; it’s civilization.
And the retention? Immaculate. You can grab a 12-year-old niche documentary in pristine quality with 40 seeders, because people there understand long-term ratio strategy instead of panic-deleting after 72 hours. The forums have actual discourse instead of “plz reseed.” The requests get filled by users who treat it like a craft, not a chore.
Cabal trackers don’t need to shout about being elite. They just quietly are. The economy works. The standards hold. The releases age like wine.
Huno is a convenience store. Cabal is a private cellar curated by archivists with standards.
But hey, enjoy your freeleech weekends. We’ll be over here building libraries.

Pretty much. When it comes to games, especially old console roms etc, public shitters have a lot of options anyway. They are just retarded. They develop dependence on centralized hubs like FitGirl, myrient, before that the-eye (rest in piss). Then when one of these shitty public sites goes down they act like it's a massive blow to game preservation. As if any of these people were even part of that conversation. I know damn well they aren't using these shitty sources to fill out collections 1 by 1 verifying against a dat file.

>>
>>108251860
None of us only have usenet. We treat it as a backup or just another source. A cabal neon goes, “I’ve got all these private trackers, why bother with usenet?” The seasoned /ptg/ poster thinks, “I can grab stuff here without seeding. That might be useful.”
Since cabal trackers mirror so much, you’ll run into things on usenet that are dead or barely seeded on trackers. So if you’re stuck with a shitty ISP plan and you’re the only seeder uploading at less than 20mbit or some shit I’m going to check my options. Is it on other trackers? Is it sitting on usenet?
And for disposable content, porn especially, or older releases where any scene release will do, like some music I will go to usenet. It’s less of a hassle than trackers. Retention and speed are better for that kind of thing. If I’m thinking about how the girls styled their hair and makeup back in 2013, I can still grab adult content from that era off usenet. It won’t last forever, but I’ll miss it when it’s gone.
>>
>>
>>
>>108252063
There's nothing worse than spending money except spending money on shit you don't truly need like a collection of physical media. If I do not buy these things I cannot have them because nobody else has my exact taste. I just end up waiting for scraps. So I buy them and share them knowing I've already taken far more than I will ever give. Everyone else gets to enjoy the result of my irrational spending.
>>
>>108252055
i am talking about reddit retards . why you using "we" ? and i am not even saying about omg .in or elite indexers . i am sure 99% of reddit retards cant even see them in their lifetime . and those shitty open indexers only have mainstream ones . and none of my previous points are wrong
>>
>>108252106
Well the old usenet culture, which lives on Reddit as we all know, is not made up of people who think like us. They want piracy as a service. Paying your way into IPT or TL is a better deal as far as that goes. Fuck, if you pay IPT at least they include IPTV as part of the deal. It makes sense when you compare what they spend on usenet to what they would spend on streaming service subscriptions instead to watch all their shows the legit way. That's all they care about. They don't care about the best quality or the best selection or the fastest pre times. They're boomers that want to watch the new Matlock episode without getting a letter in the mail. As dumb as their behavior is I hope they keep paying their bills so I can keep freeloading off of their accounts.
>>
>>108252055
>I can grab stuff here without seeding
you just proved my point
>Since cabal trackers mirror so much
none of the open ones mirror cabal , they dont even mirror tl properly .
>So if you’re stuck with a shitty ISP plan and you’re the only seeder
again , open indexers contain only mainstream slop which are well seeded even on trash trackers
>And for disposable content, porn especially, or older releases where any scene release will do
we talking about movie tv , not porn
>>
>>108252121
thats what i am saying trackers are still much much superior than usenet . i am just pointing out the usenet pr or fomo that redditors do . some fat old dude saying usenet is superior , 100% usenet , bla bla . thousands of people pay to them by seeing these retarded comments and later they find capeshit webrip miniencodes scene slop everywhere
>>
>>108252123
Well I was talking about omg/.in. This is /ptg/ so we can get into them through recruitment. Again I'm using that word we. I can't speak for redditors and the redditors that reach these indexers are not even allowed to talk about them lmao.
As an aside for TV in the modern era using a shitty indexer will not hurt you. They mostly feed from IPT. Some of them even used to feed from rarbg, how fucking pathetic is that? lmao, But I digress. There are people paying to leech megusta automated slop transcodes from usenet. They could get the scene Amazon rip from the same indexer and it would be the same quality as what's on BTN or BHD. For movies they probably won't give a shit about the slight quality boost between ETHEL's iTunes rips and BYNDR Movies Anywhere or Amazon rips, but that's assuming they won't just leech the shitty ttanscodes because they're dumb boomers.

>>
>>108252161
yeah the elite ones are worth it as they mirror cabal . but again you can pay 5$ for a seedbox and build buffer in tl and clear the hnr with it . a 5tb buffer will easily last you 1 year since most are already freeleech . its stupid paying 30$+15$ every year to only grab what it is on tl for free .
>>
>>108252212
Well the /ptg/ way is to use some dumb boomer's credentials and never pay for usenet. omg/.in ban leaked API keys. The lower tier indexers do not. A bunch of harvested API keys put into nzbhydra2 becomes a viable alternative to trackers for content that does not need to be obtained on a timely basis. If you're worried about getting HDB's encodes and the latest TV episodes the second they come out it's not the best path. But it can find you older things with less hassle. I have all of that set up on my home server because sometimes I need to dig deep into the archives.

Most people on the net are retarded anyway: they would rather pay 50-70$ a month on a subs based service to "brag about" then buying hard drives
This is why piracy is "dead" or will die, because the new generation don't want to own anything and doesn't know how to pirate they all just want a 1tb SSD with the latest call of duty slop
The only thing they want to "own" is unironically second-handed video game cardboard to brag about them, which are useless

When I saw a report on MTV News about Napster to my young mind it was as if I was hearing about humanity's greatest achievement. Somehow I never tire of any of this even though it's been decades.

When will these 250TB Kioxia NVME drives start to be available for consumers and cost 300$?
No one would have an excuse not to permaseed everything they download anymore.

Doesn't matter because torrents will die in 20 years

>>108252519
I'd hope that in 20 years we would have better internet connections and decentralized distribution will be less necessary than it is now. If I have a 10gbit line in my house and you do too us sharing 4k movies between each other won't even be as big of a deal as you downloading 1080p movies from my 1gbit line now.
>>
>>108252528
2020-2024 prices were at their lowest, covid so everyone consumed shit and yet look at it: no one joining trackers or torrenting much anymore. i'm pretty sure % of 25 years old or below is extremely low
Newer generations think that seeding/sharing is cucked too, they just want to make $ of anything i mean anything guetting scalped nowadays lmao, we truly live in the worst timeline
>>
>>108252559
>no one joining trackers or torrenting much anymore
Torrent traffic is down overall because normalfags are even more tech illiterate than ever before.
No one is joining trackers because both RED and OPS (the main ways in) are over their user cap.

People in this thread always act like this is a big deal. It isn't a problem until the content stops flowing. All the people who care are where they need to be. The shitters are where they need to be. We don't need them.

They just don't. Have you ever read YouTube comments saying "I wish I could find this on Spotify!!!" "Why isn't this on Apple Music???"
>>108252598
Do you want to be the fall guy for their copyright violations? Sure seems like it would be convenient if they could point to you once they get sued.
>>108252613
>>108252611
You would be surprised. A movie that a normie watched 20 years ago on HBO might be completely inaccessible to them now.
>>
>>
As streaming prices continue to increase year over year it's just a matter of time before people return to torrents. You just package it in a way Normie can open an app and search for something and click play. I'm aware qbittorrent basically does this already but it's kind of hidden and multistep. You make it as easy as Spotify and watch the normies come running
>>
>>
>>108252642
Automation+Plex/Jellyfin is more in line with what they want. It's easier for us to have that than it is for them. They need to think about how to achieve that safely. We just plug in our API keys and let er rip.
>>
>>
>>
>>108252648
Piracy has actually increased in recent years as a result of the streaming fragmentation. I just don't think it will ever achieve the level of cultural relevance it did in the 2000s because it is not as simple to have what you want as it was then. People don't just want files. They want the Netflix like UI and the experience. Computer literacy has gone downhill since then too. But there's demand.
>>
>>108252669
>Piracy has actually increased in recent years as a result of the streaming fragmentation
How are you measuring this? My wife used to "pirate" films by watching them on tiktok in 100 parts. That is what the average normalfaggot is doing these days
>>
>>108252662
Its mostly paywalled. You forgot about the eye or anna archive (selling for AIs)? It will never get better because since COVID, everyone just in the hustle, trying to "rape" their friend for a mere few bucks or destroy any joy in children eyes to resell their pokemon card a few bucks
The society became a sigma/individualist joke with everyone being against each other and paranoid bullshit. I know ton of people that won't rip a CD out of spite, not because they plan on reselling it or anything. At some point we won't have anything good ...

Now, yes, most of this increase involves shitty ad and malware ridden pirate streaming sites. But if you offer your family members who don't know jack fucking shit about how to pirate access to your Plex or Jellyfin share do you think they wouldn't be able to figure out it's value or how to use it? So we have four tiers of pirates now.
Us the elites and unenlightened outsiders who still have access to private trackers/usenet. This is the top tier.
Beneath that we have the public shitters. Still using TPB or 1337x or worse shit like YTS. They need to pay for a VPN to avoid getting letters lmao. Morons, pretty much all of them. But they are still more competent than the next two tiers.
Tier 3 are the dependents of Tier 1 and 2. People who have access to their Plex and Jellyfin servers. They are eating good. The quality and selection varies depending on who their "provider" is but they get the streaming service experience with pirated content.
Tier 4, the peasants using streaming sites like fmovies, kissanime, kimcartoon, etc. Don't you pity them? What a sad existence lol.

>>108252698
Hmm i personally believe its about everything surrounding the "patrick bateman/sigma/looksmaxxing" culture that lot of people adopt unironically. I talk to zoomers sometime like on MMO and they are surprised when i tell them that i help people without wanting anything in return
For them, helping someone doing a quest for 10 min is "worth" money, they are obsessed about money, investing in anything, they probably even think like this when buying a pastry. They aren't living and enjoying themselves

>>108252768
I'm not that impressed that someone can figure out how to type free streaming movie into google. The tiers are more about the quality of experience, not entirely about competence. If tier 3 is linked up with tier 1 they could easily leapfrog tier 2 if they are given access to tools for requesting the movies and shows they want. But it's not super important to make that distinction. It's more of a baseline of quality of experience.
>>108252779
IPT puts you in Tier 1. Everything else is Tier 2.

Wonder how many zoomers are getting into trackers and staying around. Recently gave a friend of mine an invite to a reginonal tracker because he was intersted in some dubs, wonder if he'll end up using it.

In term of quality honestly, remux or a good encode is decent enough, scene is meh but if its the only available ok
I'm just sick of all the stupid mini encodes with visible loss on public trackers: sometimes i try to cross-seed stuff on 1337x, but the only version around is a shitty re-encode
Even before, i always told people "720p 3gb scene encode looks better than a 1080p 1.5gb "mini encode" but people are obsessed with bigger numbers. 720p scene should have remained the standard for any laptop/smartphone user: decent enough

unrelated but fuck those assholes running through your shit.
i once watched a documentary about the people trying to catch drugs entering into the country at an airport, and they literally put holes into the soles of a shoe to check if something is hidden there or not.
when they found nothing, they were just like "tehe~ well, it's still usable!" with holes in the fucking shoe.
they can fuck themselves for real

Ratings on MAL are often different compared to mine. I ended up liking a lot of anime with a rating of 6-7 on MAL. Meanwhile, there's a lot of stuff with an extremely high rating that I didn't like that much or at all. Guess I simply don't have normalfag or western taste or something.
>>
>>
>>108253124
For anime shows, dramatic ratings on either side you have to ignore the number and go off the tags and blurbs. Anime viewers also tend to screw much more to younger audiences too so anything tagged romance, slice of life or shonen should be approached with a high amount of scepticism. Ratings are a base and should be considered a starting point not the one deterministic factor in your decision to watch

ever since mal got invaded by zoomers during covid the site started having crazy recency bias, and shit like frieren, takopii and chainsaw man started making top 50.
unfortunately the alternatives are either dead (anidb) or zoomer trash (anilist).

This isn't true. I have found their threads where they discuss these things. I found a board dedicated to one of my favorite subjects, satellite TV piracy, once. I also found their version of a general thread discussing VPNs and such, obviously for the purpose of piracy. There is obviously some lingering weariness because of the history with winny, arrests, malware etc. But some people see this activity as sneaky and rebellious which they like.
>>
Also another observation about Japanese people and piracy. You need to understand how their culture works. The version of yourself that you present to others is not always the same as the real you. A Japanese person might think "I should not do these things. They are bad. People will judge me if I do these things. Being judged for it is a fate worse than death." But that doesn't mean they don't do those things. It just means they would never admit it in most social contexts. Some of them really will be swayed by the moralizing and refuse to pirate. Others will fire up a VPN and go to nyaa.

I'm pretty sure the stuff I saw was on 5ch but a lot of the language they used was coded and euphemistic. Of course I was able to decipher it because I am of the /ptg/ master race. It's pretty damn well clear to me when a person is talking about using Korean vpngate servers to download JAV and anime off nyaa, or talking about which VPN subscription is the cheapest.

I remember when Share and PD used to be pretty big. In the first decade of 2000s they pirated like everyone else, all fansubbers used those p2p raws. The amount of scanned manga from that period is also pretty massive. What went wrong?

They weren't like they were at their peak though. It's obvious when something is in decline. I bet if a few of us wanted to try to revive the Gnutella network for a laugh we could but peak Limewire isn't gonna happen again.
