You can break down the assembly into smaller portions, complete one set at a time.
The core step is to check whether the CPU/motherboard/memory (and later storage) boots to BIOS before you install the board in the case.
>>
>>108272067
It's really quick
>screw motherboard
>lift cpu socket, drop your cpu, close the socket
>apply thermal paste then screw the cooler
>insert the ram sticks like they're lego
>insert your nvme
>plug your case fans and cpu into the mobo
>add your PSU and plug what you need to
>add your GPU and plug it
that's it, you're done
it's extremely short you'll just waste time finding the right screwdrivers at first

Fuck me... how do I keep managing to make shit worse like this? Just hoping this M4 didn't rupture the heatpipe completely, I figured that the screw would resist enough for me to prevent screwing through it, why didn't I check the progress as I felt the resistance.

Literally people who are paid 6 figures but have no life. They can piss away 10k on a gaming PC and not really care, even if they bitch about the pricing, they can afford it.
PCs are still a "cheap" hobby even then, I know people who have bicycles that cost about 15-20k for example.
>>
>>108272104
You forgot to install the mounting backplate for the CPU cooler and a dozen other things.
A proper cable management also requires several trials and errors before you find the optimal solution. Maybe the BIOS needs an update. And a build is only complete with an OS, drivers and tools installed or else the box remains unusable.

Just because some terrible unoptimized garbage of game allows you to select irrational settings your GPU isn't bad.
RTX stands for Ray Tracing btw, You need to wait for the PTX 6090 if you want smooth Path Tracing. To date PT is just a proof on concept, not a serious option.

Mounting pressure on modern GPUs must be stupidly high, because this M2 won't seat and let its self be screwed in. Maybe that's why the last two broke off when I tried pushing them in.
Remind me, why are M4 screws not standard for heatsink mounting?

Memory is going down a little because retailers have large stocks of RAM that hardcore AI people can't use (no R-DIMMs) and the mass of gamers can't afford at such inflated prices. They want/need to get rid of it. Unsold stock only costs money. This doesn't mean that RAM supply improved even a tiny bit.

No, even my 4090 could be brought down to 5 fps just by selecting stupid options in some games. Anomaly for example.
Newer titles are less optimized, rather developed with upscaling and even FG in mind and they don't offer path tracing with any promise of high FPS. Would you prefer them to not provide you the option in the first place? The difference to RT is huge. The 5090 doesn't struggle in RT.

> that's a bad user experience
Huh? I think it's fun to try it just out of curiosity, knowing that it's a proof of concept, a thing from the future, not to be selected for smooth gameplay today. Selecting lowest settings also gives you a "bad user experience", poor visuals i.e., and yet it is possible. There is usually the option to let the game choose optimal setting for your hardware but if you insist on fucking around manually you can't complain that the game allows you to shoot in your foot.
>>
>>
>>108272938
a setting that only allows users to play at 5fps is nothing like allowing less powerful hardware to play the game at 60fps

I can complain if the game has a dedicated foot-shooting setting

the heatsinks are very good. even with a sustained actual 600w ai workload a blackwell 6000 (not max-q) stays under 80c. the problem then is that it cooks everything else and does quickly heat the room.

I wouldn't go Intel atm unless perhaps I wanted to build an affordable PC for production that makes use of all those cores.. For gaymen there is nothing better than Ryzen X3D. I don't think it's worth trying to save the bucks with CL36 RAM over CL30 RAM and even less so with a non-X3D Intel CPU. There is even CL28 and CL26 RAM. CL30 is nothing fancy, it's the sweet spot. I wouldn't pay any money for SATA SSDs. Even in an external enclosure a NVMe is always a lot faster via USB4. PCIe 5.0 SSD makes no sense as the home drive of the OS, as it doesn't benefit from the bandwidth. I would put it on a cheaper Gen4 drive and get a larger Gen5 drive for heavy workloads with large files if I actually needed it. Even for games a Gen4 drive is hardly slower than Gen5. This is where saving money actually makes sense but people refuse to believe it, probably due to overwhelming marketing.
>>
>>
>>108273085
you can get a 7800x3d for 288 bux here. better socket. more fps and better frame times. less multi core score tho. you can cheap out on the ram more with those since they don't care as much. the 5070 is mid. 5070ti or you might s well get a 9070 or 9070xt. don't get the logic behind buying a 1tb nvme and a 2tb sata.
>>
>>108273186
Alright thanks that makes sense, i dont even care about the ram latency i just found those to be the cheapest ones i can buy from amazon in my region.
The intel cpu is because i also use the Pc for work, such as photoshop and illustrator, and it's relatively cheap.
About the drives yeah it's probably true, i only added a SATA ssd because NVME drives above 1TB are simply more expensive.
>>
>>
>>
>>108273281
Explanation? I checked and the 5070 is still better than the 5060ti 16gb, ant they literally cost the same here, so the 5070 seemed like the best option since i will be playing at 1080p and i dont care about more than 60fps.
>>
>>
>>108273028
All on "pre order" here, which means they are gone until god knows when
I actually did the price/TB on all available and 24TB at £579 came out to have the best ratio. It is totally fucked especially for NAS/Enterprise shit. Fucking hell people are flying to US to get drives and it's working out cheaper. I probably should have hopped on to Eurostar.
>>
>>
>>
>>108272980
It's true for the 5090 FE airflow, the bigger concern would be the higher DDR5 temps.
5090s are a lot more power efficient with a water block, but you need active cooling for the power connector (heatsink fans also kept the 12V-2x6 connecter cooler).

The main reason cards like the 5070, 5080, and 5090 have the vram is because of bandwidth limitations. Kind of like how the 5060 and 5060ti don't even have a full 16x pcie lanes.

is there any AM4 CPU worth buying? based on benchmarks, my 3800x is within 20% of a 9800x3d, and even less of a difference vs. a 5800x3d. a 5900x is cheap ($250) that the extra cores and slightly newer chip might be nice
if I just buy a new gpu like a 5070ti or 9070xt, I don't think I'll be bottlenecking anything, but maybe I'm wrong

That's bullshit but if the only things you do at your computer is browsing and light gaming at 60fps, then yes the 3800x is still good enough, but then even my ryzen 1700 is plenty for that.
>>108273405
Not uncommon, at the time everyone was building with 16GB as it was the standard, but just like how there are many (or were prior to the RAM apocalypse) using 64 GB today, people with more money to spare were buying 32 GB at the time.
>>
>>108273404
It's not a huge difference when you consider that result was with a 5090 at 1080p
Anon has a 1440p screen so that squeezes all the results pretty tight.
Combined with a 5070 ti class GPU and a platform upgrade becomes very marginal one at best.
1080p benches with a 5090 has given people like zero perspective on what's actually important.

>anon that shit is NOT low power in the slightest
It has a 70w maximum and is only powered through the pcie slot. You could get a rtx 2000 sff aswell or an even cheaper rtx sff from the ada generation. All powered entirely through the pcb. The idea of having a low profile 70w card with no power connector and 24gb of vram is a nice dream though.

Is this sort of cooling ever necessary?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>108274212
i would have put a fan over that fancy ram ddr5 gets so hot, also where are the intake fans? just exhaust so the vrm and ram would burn up fast especially with a heavy cpu overclock and the little air that gets in would leave so much dust
>>
>>
if he had watercooled his gpu I'd think that's totally normal, except for the gay rgb lights and the milk colored water instead of transparent, I would also never use that computer vertically, the radiators are too big, it should be horizontal
>>
>>
>>108274109
Keep the 64gb if you have an x3d CPU
>>108274212
It's never necessary but it helps you overclock much further
>>
>>108274246
also even if the top fans are intake which is retarded it would still cause problems because the exhaust would immediately exhaust it before it blows over any of the components or reaches the gpu, the gpu would be circulating hot air then that goes up and out and would be desperately trying to get fresh air in through gaps. i think its a bad case design and a bad case for this watercooled build even if it looks pretty. im not sure what he could have done differently other than also watercooling his gpu and having having fans for his vrm/ram or some jank custom watercooling shit for them and have reservoir for his gpu and one for vrm/ram/cpu but theres no space

i feel like 3 tiny fans would make so much noise compared to just 1 120mm fan ziptied pointing at it. my 2x32gb hynix m die errors out above 60c during any synthetic even with my vddq at 1.35 (expo was at like 1.45 which is crazy) and a relatively low refresh interval + trefi. i think anyone running expo and fast/high capacity/low latency ddr5 should cool their ram even if it doesnt get anywhere near as hot as mine its crazy that it isnt common practice. my ram doesnt even get above 39c even with 1.6v vdd and high vddq now, im sure keeping it cool will extend its life

1700, 32gb ram, OEM 2080ti scavenged from a dead prebuilt. Crosshair VI mobo from 1st gen ryzen.
What 5XXX chip should I buy? Figure I can stretch this a couple more years and then just start fresh. 5700x or 5800x, spring for something like a 5950x or 5900xt?
Not sure how to deal with ram, QVL list for ram I imagine is useless for newer chips, so basically keeping an eye out for a decent deal to jump to 64 but seems unlikely in this market.
Got an old CLC on there not sure if to just buy a new one or just go air.
Curious to see what uplift would be but been ignoring the pc world since I originally built near 1700 release. Learning blender/video editing half heartedly. Game occasionally but nothing major mostly stuff like a OW or hop on whatever MMO buddies are fucking around in.

32 is better, only possible argument is multi-display setups where desk space becomes an issue.
Using two 1080p 32" vertical displays arm mounted with a 32" 4k in the center, and I do find myself wishing i had a 27" center display occasionally.

more of an op1 guy (cus i liked the original sensei from steelseries) but you basically bought a top tier mouse that is wired at the price of a premium chinese clone but you have a better coating, reliability and build quality. you can also change switches easier. i think the 8k is memes tho. just spikes your cpu and some older games struggle with it.

Whatever you feel like. I usually put it in sleep, and turn it off every couple of weeks, and it's been fine. A friend of mine leaves his running 24/7 and his has been fine. Another shuts it down every time, and his is fine as well.
If electricity costs are a concern to you though shutting it down is what you want to do, with sleep mode as an alternative but it will still use power.

Get a PO box. They'll still let you get big packages, but the service will have to be open for you to claim them.
Amazon also has lockers in some locations if you buy from them. I don't know the size limits of them however. I think sometimes they'll also offer to ship it to a Whole Foods if you have one near you.
Speaking of UPS, if you're getting shipping from them and pay them some money they'll redirect your shipment to one of their stores. FedEx does the same, but last time I did it, years ago, I didn't have to pay so that might have changed.

pic related is exactly what mine looks like, same colour blue too.
Look at them, you could reasonably ship a graphics card to them, you're not getting a PC case or a monitor delivered though. You enter a 6 digit number that amazon e-mails you, and then one of the lockers swings open and you just take your parcel, close it and leave.
If the box somehow can't fit then the delivery driver will take it back to the warehouse and say they can't send you it.

>Sleep has been buggy and unstable forever for me
With 7 there was a chance the CPU usage would spike to 100% and stay that way for 15 minutes. It slowed the whole PC down to a crawl. I would type in my password and I'd slowly see each character being put in one by one. I stopped using sleep eventually.
With 11 I randomly get BSOD'd on wake up and it never gives a crash log, but it's rare enough to where I'll still use sleep.

Pro-tip: check walmarts website/app regularly. Multiple times in the past 2 months I've seen them sell ssd's for (relatively) super cheap. This drive is $375-400 everywhere else. Idk if its just local stores being retarded or what. I got one in January for $135 that was selling for $250 at the time.
