Cactus are the greatest plants to grow unironically
>delicious fruit
>don't need watering
>herbivores can't eat them
>spread like hydras
>prickly pears are completely edible, raw even, plus tons of huge fruit again that tastes like raspberries
There used to be an acre big grove of them on the beach here and I'd harvest very modestly a hundred pounds of fruit each summer (leaving 90% of thw grove alone)

Some boomer ended up bulldozing it to build a mcmansion

The coastal prickly pear (opuntia stricta) is the best I can grow here. If you're somewhere drier than me you might be able to grow ficus-indica, the huge prickly pear trees they have in Mexico

The Florida rain melts them unfortunately, along with a lot of other cool kinds of cactus, but not my coastal prickly pears
