if these aren't traced, you have a decent eye for measuring
>Should I go more with the flow and feels?
depends on what your goals are, but I think this exercise is mostly useless. if you wanna keep copying from photo refs, leaf through hampton or whoever else to get the idea of basic construction shapes, then try deconstructing figures, see how these shapes interact and relate to each other. or pivot into coying drawings, like I'm doing right now. for flow and feels, you could try checking "Force Dynamic Drawing for Animators", though it's kind of a tough read

These are good. As for accuracy, I think you should aim for it to be more anatomically correct than close as possible to the og drawing. Don’t focus as much on accuracy as much as knowledge

>I was thinking people study artists who a better than them
I wouldn't have been able to draw my figs without the ref, from imagination. I was studying general from, proportions and posing.
among other things that made me study his artist was that his figs are 'understandable' to me. the froms are clear, and I can reverse-engineer how they were constructed / drawn. if I were to study one of the artists whom I like, I wouldn't know where to start, and would just be monkey-copying

Hi guys :), quick gesture drawing based on a videos instructions, is this ok? i felt like without the contour lines for the calf it wouldve looked off, i started with head, sternocleidomastoid, left of torso, right of torso, legs (concurrently) then finally arms. Please be brutal and if you can give me more references that could be specifically useful. I'll be waiting here :).

https://www.sketchdaily.net <-- classroom mode is cool.
some people do gesture drawing as a warm up before drawing anything. gesture is here as a blueprint under the figure to give figure life. so dont treat it like "i need to do 6 month gesture drawing study". some says gesture drawing is fun.

Multiple people recognized him from that very redline (blackline) and said his name in the last thread. Plus, he's done the same type of bodytypes in his art and other redraws he's done for anons. He also has this thing of drawing vibrators in the crit sometimes that nobody else does, picrel from some ASG crits a while back. You'd have to be blind not to see it.

if these claims true then he is the samefag. there is only a claim about him being a ai tracer with no explanation. conclusion is he is not aifag.

You can try using the grainy chalk brush at a low opacity to add noise to some areas, there's also gradient maps. You can set them up as a noise layer after you select your desired area. You can left click on your selected layer and the go to add > Filter Selection > Map > Gradient Map. Click on the color mode tab and set it to Dither, in Threshold Mode Select noise.
Be warned that the noise layer will be set as the colors you chose for your gradient

not really, even if the bone structure lacks flexibility (it actually has a little), the foot on the ground has a different shape due to the relocation of muscles and fat because of weight
picrel is loomis and you can see that in the bottom foot

I threw something together real quick to test it out. I just added a new layer on top, filled it with a random color, ran the noise filter with the level set to 100, then set the layer mode to overlay and reduced the opacity to about 20%. I also ran a very slight gaussian blur to make the noise just a smidge softer. I looked around a bit and that's more or less how you have to do it with any software.

I wanted to test it out and it really does work apparently.
In this illustration of Okayu by Kouhiipan, if you divide into 1/3-2/3, the first third is the line of the forehead. If you further divide the 2/3 into another 1/3-2/3, the first third is the line of the eyes. If you divide again, the first third is the nose, and the bottom of the 2/3 section is the chin.
The middle of the eyes is in the middle of the first 2/3 (which would be the center line if you divided into three equal parts), the nose is located in the middle of the second 2/3 section (which would be the center line if it were three equal parts), while the mouth is located in the middle of the third 2/3 (which would be the center line if it were three equal parts).
Interesting, but i guess it can get convoluted, and it would be a bit hard to replicate in traditional art.

Day 5 result of learning to draw with no previous experience. First attempt at hair, I feel like I’m fucking up hard with the eyes, I can’t seem to make the eyelid shape too wide. Any tips?
>>
I was really struggling to create a face that accurately depicted the planes of the faces at those overhead and those weird angles where the top planes and side plane merge together during my quick figure draws and then it finally hit me to just apply the basics of portrait drawing (brow line and ear, then encompass the sphere) as opposed to trying to feel it...now to figure out the hips...

Great result for barely a weeks worth of drawing experience. It seems like a perspective mess-up, which happens alot. The right-most eye is too big, and it should be smaller. I wouldn't worry about the shape, though, it looks fine enough.

Thanks, anon. I really like it as well, though I'm more happy about being able to draw more consistently again. Two weeks of recovery is way too long not being able to draw. It felt like quitting cigarettes all over again, kek.

I'm reminded once again of the importance of drawing big enough. As a beginner you don't want to waste paper on drawings that are utter shit, but it's really to draw well if the drawing is too small.
I was getting disheartened when my faces were looking like shit, making me think I lost all my progress just by not drawing for a few days, but decided to draw a bit bigger just in case, and while it's not perfect, it's miles ahead (pun intended?).
What would you suggest as improvement for this head? Lower eyes? Shorter chin / jaw?

Mm I think I can see that. However, I used reference for this, so I think the forehead shape, eyebrows, nose, and mouth are in perspective. Perhaps it's mainly the eyes that mess it up. Can you confirm?

Here's my input. I think it's mostly the eyes and perspectives that are wrong. I'm no manga artist, and I'm using my phone to draw, so bare with me if I misinterpret anything.
The face you've drawn have two major flaws, which is that the chin and forehead have reversed perspective. The lower part of her jaw should be somewhat horizontal, and because of the focal length the perspective distortions shouldn't be that noticeable. In your drawing, the chin is way too small, and the forehead is way too big.
As for the eyes, it's mostly how you've interpreted form. Facial features wrap around the head, but because of the distortion in your drawing, the mouth seems way too small, the eyes are concave into the skull, and the brows are horizontal from our perspective. The neck is also way too thin, and it's only half as wide as the entire head, which also distorts the view. Necks are roughly as wide as the jaw, sometimes a little less and sometimes wider.
Also, as a side note, I really like your handwriting. It's very neat.
Nice ref, too.

>idk where I would even begin or how to even approach something like these drawings
I'm not an expert but wouldn't you just start with the scott robertson how to draw book and then go out and draw lots and lots and lots of vehicles and mechanisms in a museum and then start creating your own stuff by blending ideas together? I think that sort of artwork is all about building a huge visual library for mechanical stuff while training your perspective drawing skills at the same time https://youtu.be/2ivOcwlt9Dc otherwise you could never pull off the visual complexity even if you had godlike drawing skills. That's my opinion?

NTA but I disagree. It delineates her ass cheeck and makes her callipygian beauty stand out. If anything he should just erase parts of it to make the line more subtle.
>There is also something wrong with her right leg but I am too retarded to redline it. Maybe because the glute ends way too low?
I think I see what you mean. Normally the glutes are very round / salient when leg is stretched and smooth when leg is bent, so it may seem offputting that her right glute looks smoother. It isn't that noticeable in my opinion though.

Not vaguely, but if it has a snout and no human skin showing, it's pretty much a furry.
Freya from FF9 would fall into Kemono or eastern furry too.
>>
>>7890383
That's not "vaguely" animalistic, that's full-fledged canine head attached to a woman's body. And it does count as furry in my opinion.
"Vaguely animalistic" is something more like kemonomimi (wolf-ears, etc.) or anime characters with cat-like mouths/eyes that are fully human otherwise.

Here's this Lappland I (mostly) finished copying.I don't know shit about coloring/painting so this was my first go at it. The biggest thing I learned throughout the entire exercise was relating lines to one another to try to get accurate proportions. About 3/4ths of the way done I started realizing that the proportions were off and instead of fixing everything I opted to go with the flow. For the next exercise I'll do better.

It feels like you're drawing different parts separately and then attaching them together. I think that's why they have different perspectives.
Try to use each body part as reference for the others. This way your one foot shouldn't be so far away / have such a different perspective from the other foot which is close to it, etc.

Thanks, i'll try to keep that extra in-mind tomorrow. Something is just not clicking going from schizo gesture lines to mannequin. It probably stems from not knowing where to start and 'ground' the figure and then over-correcting.
it also doesn't help i was drawing with Option A in pic-related so my overwhlemed /beg/brain lost a lot of info looking down and up compared to having the ref right next to the canvas.
Should I try drawing with option B? Will I not learn anything since I can just line up the canvas with the ref and cheese the proportions? or is that a retarded take?

I know that some artists use simple 3D models to pose characters before drawing them. Is there any serious problem with this practice? I am referring not only to using the model as a reference, but rendering the 3D model according to the camera lens and framing, and then drawing the character on top of that simple 3D model.
>>
>>
>>7891411
>i already studied heads months ago but i guess i feel like i didn't really learn them the right way
Can relate, kek. I keep going back to the absolute basics over and over instead of going forward to the intermediate and advanced topics.
>>
>>7891460
I've watched videos of pro artists talking about this. The general consensus among the pros seems to be that it's wrong if you don't know shit about drawing because you will never learn that way, but if you already know how to draw, then it's just another tool that allows you to draw faster, such as using a perspective grid instead of eyeballing it or using the liquify tool instead of deleting and redrawing the same line a hundred times until it looks perfect, etc.
Personally, I agree with the pros.
