Honestly, this OP picture is so fucking genius.
>Medusa with implanted macho head
>Medusa holding pen in one hand, severed head in the other
>Demon-lion-god lamenting in the clouds above
>Owl at the distance, "are you seeing this shit?"
>Chud staring up from below with despondent face, "it's over..."
>Dutch giant holding head along with Medusa, giving thumbs up
>Bald bodybuilder Jojo stand floating and flexing above Dutch giant's tiny head
>Foreboding epigraph behind Dutch giant
>Skeleton DYEL man kneeling at giant's feet and staring up in despair at man's severed head
I'm laughing so much. OP, you're a genius.
>>

I think the back should be a bit more curved; it's too straight.
The mouth and the glasses are too straight; they need to be placed in perspective with the face/head.
The ear should be a bit further down and back, I think.
The hand of course needs working to give it a more realistic shape.
But other than that, it isn't too bad.
It seems that you struggle a lot with perspective as was also the case in your previous drawing. You should watch videos on it, maybe read a book on the subject, and practice more with 3D boxes.
If you have a computer, I recommend you use Blender which allows you to move and rotate 3D models (including humans, body parts, etc.) so you can get a feel for what something would look like from a given perspective. CSP also has a built-in 3D feature, and Krita has a plugin for a Blender layer on top.

>watch videos/ read books
any you would recommend in particular? Another big issue I have is that I can't really tell what the problem is, even when it's pointed out, unless I see the corrected version, and only THEN does it click. Is that just a matter of drawing more and more until I can see it?
>>
>>
>>
>>7885755
>any you would recommend in particular?
I don't really have trouble with basic perspective so I haven't gotten into advanced perspective yet, but some books I've seen recommended and that I plan to read in the future are
https://annas-archive.li/md5/21ab796da3b53ee9b4a1bb2a3bd060bd

>even when it's pointed out, unless I see the corrected version, and only THEN does it click
I'm like that sometimes too. In that case you should watch drawing correction videos like those of Naoki Saitou:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVsu7ZeJcBM
https://www.youtube.com/@saitonaoki2
>Is that just a matter of drawing more and more until I can see it?
I don't know. I imagine it has to do with spatial thinking. Women in general have lower spatial ability than men, so don't feel too pressured. It's natural that you're having trouble.
Try using Blender as I said: imagine how a given object (like the default cube) would look like if you rotated left for example, and then rotate it in the viewport to see if you were right; practicing like this might help you perhaps.
>>
Is anyone here old or did you start learning to draw at an advanced age?
I started practicing and was having fun and everything, but suddenly it dawned on me that if I ever really learn to draw, I'll be 50 years old (considering it takes 10+ years to learn), and that destroyed my enthusiasm, lol.
>>
>>7885774
the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, but the next best time is now
I didn't start until my 30s, I will be pushing 40 by the time I'm close to /int/ level, and it's embarrassing seeing my /beg/ work compared to literal children's drawings, but I'd rather that than growing old and dying without ever being able to draw
>>
>>7885772
I've also seen these two books recommended a lot, but basically all those artists said they're pretty advanced, so better leave them for later:

How does one cure aphantasia?
I have an elephant's memory in things like history and conversations with other people but my studies dont register into my mind at all and when I try drawing from imagination I am met with a blank darkness. Like something is blocking me from manifesting images into my mind. Then I just start guessing and chicken scratching and searching for lines and I hate drawing while fumbling in the dark.
Can this be cured or is there some hack to play around it?
>>
>>7885814
yah i'd say main issue is the proportions. if you measure out the right guidelines but don't keep them visible under what you're drawing sometimes you can fuck them up anyway, so be sure to keep them visible as you go!! the biggest impact it's had is on the midsection of her face (i.e nose, cheeks), you've made that as well as the top of her head too long.
smaller issues: use a guideline for where the eyes/eyebrows are too. you can see that you've placed the left eye and eyebrow up a bit too high on the face. the face as a whole also looks a bit narrower than the referece, probs cus of the proportion issues.
otherwise, great job on the lighting!! esp with the bounce light on the side of her face :D

are there any glaring issues with this slop that i have created (minus the hands and the obvious placeholder head)
>>
>>
>>
>>7885824
That's not aphantasia. You need actual specific things to build something, or anything. You say that you read, okay, your brain is full of inspiration, BUT, it's like you're a car, your tank is full of fuel, but you don't have any wheels. Get it?
You need basic and complex shapes stored in your toolbox, and you need to learn those shapes (poses) a million times to be able to call them up whenever you need them for your mental idea to become a visual one.

>>
>>7885824
drawing from "imagination" is just a fancy way of saying drawing from memory. even if you can't envision anything, if you remember how things are drawn in different angles, you'll be able to draw "from imagination". if you don't have a mental library you won't be able to draw from imagination.
for example, you might have a part of the body that you're very familiar with drawing, and you need less/no references to draw that part of the body in the pose you want. that's because you have a big mental library for that body part.
on the other hand, there might be a body part you really struggle to draw and need lots of references for it. that's because you don't have a mental library for that part built up yet.
there are 2 solutions: 1 is to simply draw more, trying to include parts you're uncomfortable with in each drawing to build up your mental library. 2 is that once you have a decent mental library, is to draw an image from reference, then draw that same image from memory, to get used to drawing from memory alone.
we'll all get there asp!! stay strong anon and keep draiwng

Thanks. I'm aware of the distortion that comes from drawing at a desk and I even tried to account for it and look at the drawing from above but it didn't work. I guess having a desk easel would make it better, but I find them really uncomfortable compared to drawing on the desk. I guess shit's hard.

Suggestion- try switching to a program with an animation timeline. CSP, Krita, Drawpile, Tahoma2D, Pencil2D, it doesn't matter which. I used to use layers as digital sketchbook pages for years before switching to Krita and figuring out that using keyframes was thousands of times better for it. It's way easier than hiding and unhiding a hundred layers to switch pages, it's keyboard shortcut friendly, you can have multiple layers on the timeline (so you can put templates in the background for example) and the whole shebang can be exported into a folder neatly ordered and labeled. For your particular use case, you can either export the pages as a video or hit play while you're screen recording so you don't have to flip through the pages manually to show them to /beg/.

I feel like I should draw a lot more to improve quickly, but it takes me a lot of time to do barely decent-looking drawings, so I'm worried that if I try drawing more the drawings will be too low quality to elicit any improvement.

Upper torso is a bit too long. Arms are a bit too short too, the humerus ends about right next to the bottom of the rib cage and the hand is just below the pubis bone. Thigh isn’t long enough either, it has a lot more muscles than you think. Lower leg seems about right but it could be like an inch longer and it wouldn’t look wrong. Just study the bones really

The hands themselves are actually pretty good, you just make some odd color choices. IIRC all the work I've seen you post has the same kind of dark, grayish nails. Nails are a little more pink/purple, but they don't contrast with the hand very much at all.
Your colors might improve overall if there was a context of background atmospheric and direct light color for you to work with. Pure white makes it more confusing to choose proper colors, esp. skin tones. Marco Bucci's videos on ambient light color are very helpful in this regard.

How do you get this level of rendering/shading? I only really do two tone shading, it looks like it takes weeks to do illustrations like this and too many layers. Is it in the brushes or layer tricks used?

Not him but it is. Digital has insanely OP tools like liquify, transform, infinite layers, undo history, etc that trad has absolutely no answer to. Digital's workflow allows you to attempt significantly more ambitious drawings than you'd be willing to attempt on trad.

It does give me the impression of a ceramic or gemstone like Jade, so it's not like it's bad but I still think you should reduce the speckles on it.
There are many resources on the internet for leather and metal textures, so don't complicate yourself too much by doing everything from scratch.

Posting this before going to bed. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this before moving forward with it. More WT stuff since I don't really know what to draw.
It's looking nice but I can sense some slight errors when it comes to proportions. A redline would be greatly appreciated.
I know her grippers are a glaring flaw but I'm content keeping them vague since I'll be covering them up anyway.
Btw, Ai Kitora's eyes are a bitch to draw. I want to capture the focused and discerning gaze she's got going on but it usually just ends up looking too different.

Ambient light/color. Your whole background is blinding white so your colors aren't well differentiated.
Some authors have to fix their colors sometimes because they peak intense colors due to their white background, but once they add background scene/color, the colors become too intense.
I watched a video that talked about this with examples, but I bookmarked multiple videos and don't which one is the one.
Anyways, change the background color.

I bought this yesterday and picked it up today from BestBuy. It's cheap as fuck and I'm having a blast.
Also you don't need a sketchbook, just grab some office paper and a number 2 pencil and go at it.

>Also you don't need a sketchbook, just grab some office paper and a number 2 pencil and go at it.
truuuue, though i wanna keep everything nice and tidy with all my sketching
i wanna focus hard first on concept art and sketching, since i think that's the way to go, at least with monsters, dinosaurs, dragons and so on.
>If you can afford to buy a tablet with a screen, buy it

Once I get a graphics tablet and can draw digitally, I plan to do Yejji's "High Density Coloring" course or just practice with YouTube videos from skillful artists like the ones in >>7887026.

I use a tiny-ass screenless Wacom bamboo that I bought off a guy for like, 20 Dollars. It took me a good while to get used to the disconnect of looking at a screeen and drawing in another surface, but once you get used to it, it's great. Highly worth it.
Now, I'd probably recommend buying something with a larger drawing area, I'm just a cheapskate. Don't buy a tiny-ass wacom bamboo.

>they're a simp for the vtuber Lumi (which gives them followers even if their art is shit)
>by the way they talk, they sound like a massive faggot or a woman, which gives them followers from LGBTLQJFKEJ fags, simps, and feminist cunts
>addicted to social media, per AI: "77,000 tweets over 15 years averages to about 5,133 tweets per year, or approximately 14 tweets per day."
So basically, what you're saying is, "hurr durr you can be a permabeg if you just become a virtuesignalling dramachasing faggot simp who's posting on social media 24/7 broo!!".

Seconded. A screenie's only really worth it if you can get a big one. Anything smaller than ~20" isn't worth it imo, because the benefits of drawing directly on a screen are negated by the absolutely miserable vertical space restrictions. I have an 11.6" XP-Pen and it has an abysmal 5.7" of vertical real estate. I can't stand using it unless I rotate it on its side, because otherwise everything is way too tiny and cramped. Maybe if tablet manufacturers weren't brainless retards that don't think things through and stopped manufacturing only 16:9 widescreens, it'd be possible to have anything smaller than a massive $500-$1000+ desk hog be not practically unusable in the standard orientation and only begrudgingly usable when rotated. Would it kill them to make a 4:3 tablet? Seriously. Now compare that with the teeny Wacom Bamboo tablet I had that I used comfortably for years because, despite the size of the tablet itself being small (only 8"), I could pair it with a much larger screen that I could view everything at a comfortable size. Learning the hand-eye coordination isn't hard and is only a one-time obstacle. Like riding a bike, you learn how to do it once and then you never forget.

Perspective and forms are inconsistent. Draw through every form, establish a ground plane and draw . Notice on the robot on the right (art by tb choi) how everything follows a particular vanishing point and there’s an established ground plane. Emulate that process with this drawing

Big beautiful ghost lady, done as a challenge to capture dynamic perspective and translucent shading in a lineart style(which I obv suck at) and to draw a cute OC.

i would reccomend trying to block out the shapes of the figure more directly rather than building them from simple shapes, especially for (what I assume) to be very quick, simple gestures from observation.

Is there any sort of roadmap of things and tasks to do so i dont feel overwhelmed? i like to have a thing, learn it, get good, and then check it off the list and go work towards something else. There's so many aspects i dont know where to start. Should i just grab a book and start copying ? Oh and painting is another can of worms i have to go through when i get good at drawing after like 5 years

Doing hair is very fun because you dont actually draw a single line, you start with a big brush for the shape and then you use the lazo tool to carve out the final form. I usually do separate layers for the bangs, the side hair and back hair. Then you add gradients and paint the individual hair strands in their own multiply layers

Nothing wrong with drawing on ruled paper imo, unless you're planning on making a finished piece in which you wouldn't want the lines.
you seems like rushed to finish the drawing. pick easy things to draw first then you can slowlly increase complex things to draw. more you draw better you get at drawing from observation.

This drawing by Xiao Weichun shows how the muscles of the forearm overlap. It's obviously super exaggerated in this drawing, but you can see how the wrist covers and is covered by the forearm muscles.
And for chicken scratch, just draw one or two lines to show stuff than one million little ones, it makes it easier to slightly erase and draw over them too.

Keep drawing, the only way to "fix it" is to get better at it. Getting angry won't make you magically better. Treat the art of drawing as a mystery cult, and the act of drawing as a performative ritual of magic. You have to infuse meaning into this thing you want to get good at. And you will achieve that only though the power of your mind over matter.

A permabeg, but in a literal sense and not in the meme way.
Essentially someone who drew for hours literally everyday for fucking years and never improved. A prime example of someone who was better off giving up (which he did) instead of wasting his time in a hobby he clearly hated.

I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm a pretty early beg and I am working on trying to shit out some finished pieces, but I don't know exactly how to really go about it. I don't know if I am supposed to polish my turd or move on, and sometimes I get lost in how I am supposed to go about correcting the errors in my drawing.
Also, I have a question about studies/copies, what differentiates the two? For example, before I drew this I looked at a couple of images of black widows and attempted to deconstruct and copy them, which is what I read is the correct way to do a study, but I don't know exactly how I am supposed to "absorb" it fully. I'm also unsure if I should try to draw from imagination at this stage, or if that is a waste of time.

This is actually a very useful exercise. It's the secret to learning how to "feel the form", or being able to intuitively interpret 2D shape as 3D form and vice versa. This basically is one of the core practices taught in Dynamic Sketching.
You just have to keep in mind that anime faces don't strictly adhere to a rigid 3D topology, it's a much more fuzzy logic interpretation of 2D shape as 3D form. Also, this is more of a practice exercise, for actually drawing faces from imagination drawing such a dense wireframe is impractical.

Pawell did improve though.
>>7888604
Looking at the most recent works I'd say he actually had potential. It immediately strikes me just how much better his drawings done in ballpoint are than his digital work, because for some reason when working in digital he always used these absolutely retard huge kludgy brushes that leave zero room for subtlety in mark making. To use larger brushes you have to forego fidelity and direct statement for simplification and implication. The ink brushes are especially egregious. Look in picrelated, the digital ink brush drawing almost looks like it was done years before the green ballpoint drawing, when in reality it was a few days after the ballpoint. Then there's the fact that he never seemed to actually get the point of construction, like for instance instead of using the concepts taught by Loomis in FWAP or other construction books and inventing things he just copied the drawings in them. As a matter of fact, up until the very end it seems that he just kind of rotely and mindlessly repeated this exercise of copying and then attempting a second copy by memory. If he had actually broken the construction threshold instead of pointlessly grinding the same copying exercises ad infinitum he likely would have seen some real profound improvement. Instead he ended up getting pretty okay at copying, then never did anything else, stagnated hard and eventually ended up quitting. He actually could have gone farther, a whole lot farther, but his mindset and approach prevented him from doing so.
>>
>>7888733

his problem is that he never really bothered to fix any of his mistakes and learn, just going from one lazy shitty copy to the next, somehow expecting quantity to magically transform into quality. if you see that your copy is shit, why move to the next one? fix it and work on it, see what you tend to do wrong and be conscious of it in the future. try to copy it again but do it better this time. all this copy work is almost useless if he can't be bothered to actively learn from it
>>
>>7888733

Everyone was saying that to him. He grinded a book after book after book. Everyone knew he was going to burn out. Everyone told him to just draw whatever he wants from imagination more and stop grinding art books.
This is a cautionary tale for people who wait until they are "allowed" to draw. Pawell was the vaccine that made me immune to faggots who peddle that bullshit that you need to get good and only then you are graciously allowed to draw and everything else is just turd polishing.

I've read morpho once and came out with this. (using one of its drawings as reference, so its just a non traced copy)
Just thinking of drawing from imagination feels exhausting.
Right now Im thinking about the hip box and how to properly draw arms, man, never thought it'd be this complicated.

Tried to draw the guy in a somewhat turned perspective since you guys told me I need to work on that, and it seems better than previous attempts? Also tried to implement the overlaps for the arms like an anon told me to; not sure if I did it correctly, but it looks better to me. Also tried to make the shirt bunch up convincingly and again, I'm pretty satisfied with it! I still have trouble picking out my errors until someone shows them to me, but usually I have a lingering feeling of "oh something is wrong with this", but I don't this time, and that's a pretty nice feeling

What should I work on? I'm new to drawing and have no fucking clue where to start? Do I just go to the sticky?

I made this drawing recently, the subject I drew from imagination, so I really wasn't concerned for details like the hair and shadows, all I was interested in was making sure that the form of the head tilted back was right and that the proportions were adequate. Are there any ways that I can improve this drawing?
