>Just do art and animation on the side as a hobby, bro
>Get a real career as they say
>Work 9-12 hour days, 5 days a week
>While trying to make animated shorts on the side
>By the time I'm home after work, I'm too exhausted
>The weekends I can barely work on it
How the fuck are people actually doing this? I'm considering going on neetbux or unemployment

You'll have to sacrifice something. Personally, I decided to lower my work hours to 20-25 a week and just rent a room. Animation is too important to me to give up. I don't need a lot of material things. I also sold my car

i wfh two days a week and i am very firm in going home at 5. i can get in 1 to 2 hours per day if all is well, 30 if not. that said you need to sacrifice something (for me it was video games and working out, i only work out a few times per week now, i do not touch games during the week/sunday) and learn to compartmentalize. try your hardest to mentally separate the you at work from the you at home. i've reached the point where i can slowly detach on the commute home and once i am at home, i'm ready to go. there are methods online to help you with that, look 'em up

I worked from home for 5 years, quit 2 months ago. All you get is 2 extra hours back you don’t have to commute. I’m still tired as shit after work and numbing the pain from dealing with retards both email and on the phone from multiple different clients is equally as draining. It’s just another golden handcuff. Neet or bust.

Not really, cars are money pits even after being paid off. After gas, insurance, and maintenance, you're looking at several thou a year at least. If you can afford to get around on a bike it's not only cheaper, but better for you as it ensures you're getting exercise.

>You're supposed to get a 9 to 5 job. Or, ideally 8 to 3. Nobody is fucking working more than 7 hours a day, anyway.
Yeah you're "supposed" to just get a job and just "supposed" to select your hours on your terms.

If you can, smoke pot.
I stock shelves in a supermarket at night, and I do the water aisle. Trudging home, I have my bowlful of inspiration and reward, and my fatigue VANISHES! And I can draw for a few hours until I need another bowlful to recharge. One a day for you might help.

In my late twenties, I have finally accepted that for me to become good at making comics that I'm probably going to have to accept the fact that I'm going to die a virgin and that I'll never be in a relationship ever again.
As a man, if I truly follow my dream career, I won't be able to provide anything for a woman nor will I have a family. This much I have accepted. Women are privileged enough in the Art field because usually they are partnered up with someone who works in the STEM field, but I, as a man, will need to accept the possibility of living and dying a poor man for this creative field and never reproducing.
I'm fine with it, but the problem is explaining to normies as to why I don't have a good career or kids or a house when they pry in my personal life about it. Is it attractive to a new person when they ask you what you do, and you say "I draw comics" as a man? What about when you're new in the workplace and your hobbies aren't watching sports or drinking?

Every time read a thread like this I'm reminded how lucky I am to have a job that doesn't kill me inside and that is comfy enough that I go home with a lot of energy still. It's not the best paying I could probably get, but it's more than enough and the qol is unbeatable.
Can usually fit in at least 4 hours of drawing, and still have time for at least a little bit of other stuff. But yeah, even then you will have to make sacrifices. I only meet with friends like maybe once a week and don't go to the gym as much as I used to.

They have you in the water aisle? That's brutal back work anon.
I did this for a while, fucked one of my coworkers and got a handjob from another. Overnight people are usually creatures and they don't mind that you're poor... well they're not making the best decisions in life as well or are young enough to just want to fuck. I got out of there and got an E-commerce job where they schedule you 4 hrs and you make your own schedule. It's great, but the money is shit.

Most people would think it's cool that you're drawing comics. They'd probably ask if you're drawing something like Spider-Man, Garfield, or TinTin. I work in a pharmacy and all my co-workers know that I practice animation when I go home.

Listen anon, any time you hear any of the OLD fucking teacher/professional give that advice, you just gotta realize that they were born in a different world then whats in front of them right now. Like as much as "starving artist" is this persistent stereotype any of the failed artists could have worked at a fucking diner and that would be enough to cover most if not all expenses. You would have had more energy(and less stress) to do shit back in the day cause there was more money.

Calm the fuck down bro any decent comic/graphic novel can be done in a couple of years. Unless your idea is the length of fucking One Piece you only need to isolate yourself for a couple of years if that. Plus if you wanted to properly shill your comic you would start attending cons to sell your shit and you will be forced to interact with new people, including fucking women. Like if Im dying a virgin it aint cause of my fucking comic it'll be all the other reasons why Im a failure.
