I just wanna ask because, it seems like there's no hope getting a professional job as an animator anymore.
I went into art school before AI was shoved everywhere and there was all this doom, so I genuinely believed that if I just graduated and made a nice reel I could get a job, but now I'm still a student and realizing that just won't work out anymore.
So what do I do? I'm not dropping out of school because I'm still passionate about the arts. I hear people say indie is the future blah blah blah but there's like only one indie studio actually paying people and all the seasoned professionals end up working there. I've volunteered for multiple projects, I'm honestly tired of it, not the work itself but joining crappy projects where no one communicates at all or nothing's run professionally because it's not a real studio. I have no connections or art friends, so I'm lost.
I just want to get my start somewhere, that's all really, I thought the numerous volunteer projects I did the last couple years would help me do that but they didn't. I've honed my skills, but I'm still a nobody, and I just don't know what to change to fix this.
Please help me /ic/

A job... where? The studios actually animating these days, the ones in japan, korea, china etc, are all constantly hiring and looking for new people to train because the turnover rates are high because the job is hard and the pay is woeful. Getting a job in animation is the easy part. They're not ideal options, of course. If you want real options then get into 3D animation because that's what games and movies use nowadays.

Well, I haven't looked into options outside the US, and I only want to do remote work right now until I graduate. I don't live in LA and there's no local opportunities here. I'm also strictly interested in 2D animation
If there are remote opportunities with japan, korean, or china studios I wouldn't mind you pointing me toward which studios are doing that

unironically the only way to make it nowadays is to get lucky starting your own indie studio and posting shit on youtube. Chances are you won't make it, but it's still better odds than trying to join the dying american industry just to MAYBE be a slave making steven universe-likes or move PNGs for invincible.

Most of them. Pick an anime, look up who made it, go to their website. You'll have to get used to doing your own homework if you want a job, man.
