Racism locked and loaded.
Good on 'ya to mention the tourney. With how last thread refused to die, this one will likely be up when it comes time.

Not him, but good work! I gotta get on that grind and finish up the ones I still owe. I got a lot of hobby project crap I'm doing in my spare time, but I really should draw more. I did just get a new pen display after all...

oh, I see what you mean. if it isn't fixed soon, I'll go let the site owner know about that. regardless, you don't need shinten to play unmodded, so if you can use the regular copy of the game, that will be enough to play with us outside of the rare special events in which we bust out the mod tracks. we're all pretty experienced with the game, so feel free to ask for tips about characters and techniques and spellcards and stuff

>FORMAT and DA RULES
>Regular phase
12 random races, normal point system:
1st place – 10 points
2nd – 8 points
3rd – 6 points
4th – 4 points
5th – 3 points
6th – 2 points
7th – 1 point
TOP 2 from each lobby qualify directly to the playoffs.
3rd and 4th placed racists advance to the WILD CARD RACE
>PLAYOFFS
The player that finishes in LAST PLACE is automatically ELIMINATED. The rest of the players go on to the next race until ONLY 3 RACISTS ARE LEFT. They will then race in a single FINAL RACE, in which the one that finishes 1st becomes the Champ.
(2 FULL LOBBIES)
12 regular rounds > Top 4 from each Lobby go through, however... > Best 2 from each Lobby automatically advance to the Playoffs (A1, A2, B1, B2) > A3, A4, B3 and B4 will race in a single WILD CARD RACE in which 1st, 2nd and 3rd place will go through to complete the final 7 player lobby > 5 playoff races in five different tracks until only 3 players remain > Final race

btw, for anyone who's new, you can change your region in the options submenu on the main menu. you can also change your username there (though for me it seems to not apply unless I re-confirm it every time I boot up the game)

newbie guide:
>Basic Game Mechanics:
- Your current stats are those of the character who is currently the "board". Switching characters consumes a bit of spell meter, but it will switch the stats you are currently using, which can be well-worth the cost when on different parts of the track that benefit from straightforward speed, air-speed, or good cornering ability. Learn the best times and places to switch characters to improve performance.
- The importance of all the stats is explained here: https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Stats, but just know that they're all fairly important. It's recommended to choose two characters whose strengths complement each other.
- Drifting helps conserve speed while changing direction and going around corners. Many characters slow down when turning normally, so drifting is highly useful in most cases.
- You gain spell meter quickly by passing through boost rings. You also gain it passively over time. Racers who are behind in the race get more spell meter than those in front.
- Pressing the spell button while the meter is full (green) will consume the meter and roll for a level 1 spellcard. Pressing the spell button while the meter is filled twice (blue) will consume the entire meter to roll for a level 2 spellcard (which is typically more potent). Generally, the racers in 1st-3rd place receive mostly offensive spellcards, racers in 4th-5th place receive both offensive and boosting spellcards, and the racers in 6th-7th place receive boosting spellcards. Spellcards can be seen here: https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Spell_Cards
- When your LW meter (yellow) is full and your spell meter is also filled twice (it will appear yellow, too), you can press the spell button to consume both to get your LW. These spellcards are powerful and can change the course of a race. You typically can only use one, as most tracks aren't long enough to obtain a second.
>Advanced Knowledge and Tricks:
- Switching characters gives you a small boost. This will let you gain speed even on sections with no boost rings, and it's very important for speeding up after getting hurt.
- Jumping spellcards can be used on some parts of the tracks to hop over short fences, sizable gaps, or onto higher ledges for the sake of shortcuts that can help you get way ahead. It's recommended to save those spellcards for these shortcuts. When using them, be sure to activate them early enough to gain the height you need (or else you will run into the wall).
- Pressing down while in the air can give you a small vertical boost, sometimes called an "elevator" by people on the wiki. Use this to gain a little bit more height while flying or to help you cross small gaps without falling in. This can help with cutting really tight corners over ledges, like on Embers of Blazing Hell or Underworld City Depths, or when taking big flying shortcuts, like on Sea of Tranquility and Redevelopment Area B. Just keep in mind that you can only do this a single time before you have to touch the ground again. Also, pressing up while in the air will speed your descent.
- Drifting helps conserve the speed you already have while also lessening the amount of speed you gain from boosts. So if you start a drift at the exact moment a boost ends (and not too much sooner, or else will you miss out on some acceleration), you can keep your heightened speed for longer. This is called "break drifting": https://gensou-skydrift.fandom.com/wiki/Break_Drift.. Boost rings are very frequent, so break drifting can be used many times in a race to great overall benefit. Break drifting is more effective for characters with high Speed+Boost and low Drift.
>General Advice:
- Some tracks have big hidden shortcuts that don't require items. Some of them just require you to fly fast enough and far enough to skip a section of track or land somewhere high up. Try exploring the tracks on your own, watching other people while racing, or saving replays to review later (CPU players don't bother with shortcuts, so you won't learn those from them).
- Racers often save their spellcards and LWs for the final lap to help secure victory at the last minute. Prepare for that with your own spellcards to take shortcuts and give yourself immunity to offensive LWs.
- Don't let it get to you when you get fucked up by spells or just can't seem to get ahead of the other racers. We've all been there, and managing it is just part of the game. Just keep racing with us and keep learning more and trying new things, and you will get better with time and effort. Everyone here was also new once, after all.

>>
>>
>>
>>50714908
since people in the back get more boosting items, I think newbies overall benefit from it. I think the real problem is that we're just way faster than we used to be. makes it frustrating to play if you have never done it before. not sure what to do about that

>>
>>
>>50714930
lol, just wanna show that I could be actual competition during tourneys if I ever decided to compromise.
>>50714936
Well, with the dog-ear grip, yeah.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>50714952
three main factors:
-we play a lot and know how to cut corners pretty well
-we switch the two racers often, which gives you a speed boost when you do it
-we use drifting to conserve speed after each boost. all you gotta do is hold the drift button at the exact time the boost ends, and you will maintain heightened speed for much longer

Hi folks!!!!!
Came back specifically to share something I think was cool the other night.
In Japan there are 3 dedicated 2hu bars: one in Sapporo which I visited on a snowy night a few years back, one in Osaka which I only learned about until after I left the city a couple years ago, and of course the one in Tokyo, which I visit often to the point I'm considered a regular, which is a badge of honor I proudly boast about.
Life has its way of spicing things up for kicks and you just have to adjust as best as you can. And so I, despite not being in my agenda at all, found myself back in Kansai, which meant a golden opportunity to go pay that bar a visit and complete the pilgrimage of Touhou bar hopping this time around.
Long story short I go to the place, drink, have fun, snap some pics, go take a piss, piss, turn around to exit the bathroom and lo and behold I am met with pic related.
So I go to the guy that runs the place and ask him about the banner. He says that the game dev was actually a regular at the point at some point, and when the game released he gave away some merch to the store as gifts. I told him that as it turns out, I regularly host (big lie lol) game sessions with my internet friends and do our best to keep the game alive. He was pleasantly surprised, and even tho he doesn't play it he was aware popularity for had been dwindling over the years, so he was happy someone somewhere far away was enjoying his friend's creation to this day.
Bar was pricey as fuck tho so won't be going back lol, but the interaction was something I felt I needed to share with you all.
Creating and hosting the tourneys and our sessions for as long as I did also gave me a small, fun sense of purpose each week, especially when it came to hosting the tourneys and special events each month, which I miss but you trade some things for others and I only have positive memories of my time playing this shit.
So keep having fun, good luck on your racism, and we'll meet again some time.

Cool little anecdote, thanks for sharing! Funny how life works sometimes, isn't it? It's a bit bittersweet to hear, but I'm also glad you've enjoyed your time with the game (and us) and it's good to know you're doing well for yourself out there and honestly living the average /jp/sie's dream. Wish you well on your adventures bro, and enjoy Japan for us! Hopefully someday those who wanna go can see the sights at least once in our lives.

I the race on Bamboo Forest was so neck to neck that I almost nutted
on Youkai Mountain I knew you were scheming with an ending cradle so I had to bust out the Suika LastWord to win
Outside World I almost followed you into the lap two shortcut on lap one. That was almost a "follow the leader into a dead end moment" lmao
Also last three races from me ladies and gents

You 100% won that race as far as I'm concerned
You were in 1st going into last lap 3 (dangerous on Human Village)
Meanwhile while we were in the back, burning power items after power item, trying to catch up
and you still held 1st
on Human Village
Thats crazy

about practice, I think a lot of the tracks were not available to practice with in the game I downloaded from the OP. Do I have to run the 500kb INS.exe or use shinten to get those? I assume not since the OP says those are for modding and those stages look like DLC.

basically all you gotta do is start drifting at the end of each boost, and then hold that drift until you slow down too much or need to change direction or hit another boost. you can do it after every boost too, even the one at the very start of the race
