Why does it seem like the only round available is M80? I get there are some hunting rounds that are mostly interesting, but there doesn't seem to be anything else on the market except surplus tracer ammo every now and then. Handguns have all sorts of wacky rounds, AR and AK fags do as well, but not 7.62.

Am I missing something?

M80, at least for me generically refers to 147gr ball ammo. Besides M80A1 (tungsten penetrator) or those cold war AP rounds and tracers. Theres also M118/M118LR which is my round of choice for my M1A, and plenty other similar OTM hollow point boat tailed style precision rounds.

Interesting. Is this the equivalent of "green tip" 5.56?

>>
>>64860916
Nope, its the equivalent of M855A1, that is to say it has a tungsten penetrator rather than a mild steel penetrator. Its bonafied AP.
>>
I'm trying to decide on my first BR from the following options:
DSA FAL
PTR91 (pre-enshitification of internals)
converted Saiga 308
Zastava M77
poorfag AR-10 like Aero M5, PSA Sabre or DPMS LR308

Is there a standout choice here? I'd get something pricier but I'm set to buy a new truck soon. My main priority is reliability. Not too concerned with extreme accuracy.
>>
>>64861187
Why not CA-3?
>>
>>64861286
I was under the impression that most of them were complete pieces of shit. Did their QC improve?
>>
>>64861322
NTA but CA-3's are old Portuguese G3 parts kits put together by PTR, not like the C308 CETMEs they used to sell.
Aside from the lack of a recoil lug making mounting optics harder, they're pretty good.
>>
Why are older battles rifles like the G3 shilled so much over the AR10? At least in YouTube comments.
>>
>>64861187
I got a PTR91 in Nov. 2020. It did have a break in period that made me lose faith but after getting through a couple hundred rounds I love that rifle again.
I also have the zastava M77. It’s great but heavy (inb4 battle rifle) and for the accuracy I think the PTR has the edge. M77 mags are also not cheap.

Out of pure utility I’d suggest the AR-10, but if you want sovl + other stuff you describe then I’d suggest getting something that doesn’t require a lot of modifications out of the box. M77 would be that gun. If you’re a little more patient then the PTR-91 is just fine. You really can’t go wrong
>>
>>64861424
Because it's an AR. Do you want another generic black rifle or something with SOVL? The only advantage of the AR-10 is that it's an AR platform, so you can go full retard Gucci CAGLARP on them. They are also easily obtained brand new, whereas most of this thread's BRs are guns produced in the 80's (or before) or at least uses parts from the Cold War. I want to get something that isn't an FAL/G3/CETME/etc. but I find the newer offerings either boring (basic bitch black rifle), or hilariously expensive simply because it shoots 7.62, and I refuse to pony up 4-5 grand just for the privilege of being able to better mount shit to it.

its a fun platform to larp with but it's a pain in the ass to deal with. Its overly heavy, Accurizing is expensive, mounting a """stable"" scope can be a pain in the ass. And its a not major but more than a slight chance you'll get qc issues from Springfield

Guys, i need your help.

I got really cheap DAG .308 Blue trainingammo. Bought a few thousand rounds for a good price.
Now my problem. I would love to shoot it through my g3. but i dont have a trainingbolt assambly. And you cant get one in germany...why? Dont ask me. Can i just remove the clamping pin and the rollers to get it running? Would love to hear it form you. And now the next kicker, i have to reassamble the bolt after every training. Do you now which size the tiny rollpin has, which holds the rollers/ Locking Roller Pin? Thanks guys!

>>64864657

>>
>>64864669
yeah...i would do this. But in germany you have to register even a fucking bolt. That sucks, and you cant even get one easy. So i am forced to modify the old one.
>>
>>64864645
Now you know why it's cheap.
>>
>>64864669
Ask schwaben arms maybe they could come up with a modified one. But that bolt would be illegal if it would chamber and fire regular 308 win. Obviously would not stand 308 win proofing.

I have seen those bolts for sale in the us, but they were probably also FA capable.

Or just buy a mauser 98 style bolt gun in 308 with a strong firing pin and extractor like a coruna fr8 and blast away that crap.

Thats what I used to do. Boomers were mad that i was doing that on a 25m PEESTOL range. Fuck german ranges and the fucking boomer meanace populating them. Day of the Pillow when?

$10/mag is $360 w/10 free steels. The other accessories are just nice to have, but not worth too much. Calling the rail adapter a "claw mount" is a little deceiving. The straps are nice, I could use one of those in brown. That leaves $1240 for the rifle, which is probably in great condition, probably. RTG is charging more than $10 for NIW mags, and I've never thought they gouge. Lee's Mags has dried up on G3 mags, last I was there. So we are beginning to see the future drought for G3 mags. Obviously someone's "future proofed" pocky clips gun. I'd call this one a 'buy', if you want one.

There's several. 5.56 ADVAP / M1158 are the actual tungsten counterparts respectively to M855A1 and M80A1.
There is a tungsten 6mm ARC AP evaluated by CAG that is supposed to be fucking superb.
There is tungsten .338 Lapua / Norma used by USSOCOM.
SOCOM is evaluating ultra high pressure 5.56 using hybrid cases up to 100k PSI, basically giving all 5.56 a 450ft/s upgrade and enabling even M855A1 to challenge weaker Level IV up close.
6. 6.8x51 of course, XM1186 steel core and then XM1184 tungsten which is similar to M1158 but maybe a touch better.
They are also still evaluating .264 LICC

Clones are gray water and depend on how the ATF is feeling.
>>

>SOCOM is evaluating ultra high pressure 5.56 using hybrid cases up to 100k PSI, basically giving all 5.56 a 450ft/s upgrade and enabling even M855A1 to challenge weaker Level IV up close.
Is there a link to this program?
>>
>>64868555
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRYYncVx-yk
The 100k PSI stuff is handloaded and most ammunition is below that. There are several types of extra spicy 5.56 now on the market. NAS3 and SIG HYP, the latter of which has been tested with M855A1 and 7.62x51mm M80A1, putting on a good show with both.
Ironically SIG seems to be hedging their bets in case the M7 doesn't work out by offering enhanced 5.56 and 7.62x51mm.
I imagine the tech applied to .338 Norma M1162 (300gr tungsten AP) or M1214 (mini-Raufoss) would be hilariously brutal against armor.

>>64868545
Sorry, I meant 7.62. I was looking online to see the history of the cartridge and different versions of it that the military has experimented with when I came M993 and M1158 and I saw a site that claimed to be selling clones of M1158 bullets for handloads; which made me wonder if that was even legal. I always hazy on the legality of ammo types that aren't "normal". I know green tip 5.56 is legal, but does the ATF only eye ball that as being okay because of its proliferation and its steel (like the M80A1) but is tungsten a step too far and they suddenly get mad.

I actually have an H&K 770 that I regularly hunt with.
Here are some general observations about these rifles:
>VERY accurate, minimal shift in point of impact despite wildly different bullet weights.
>hammer forged polygonal barrel with an integrated flash-hider was a weird choice for a civilian hunting rifle...
>despite being outrageously expensive, the mags are very flimsy and the mag release is awkward to use, the rifle doesn't really have a dedicated magazine well, the raw wood of the stock serves as the magazine well.
>the disassembly and cleaning procedures for these rifles are outright retarded. Labor-intensive and slow, requiring a bunch of tools.
>shits where it eats, the action gets packed with soot very rapidly. It still works fine while dirty, but caking full of soot after 30 rounds isn't exactly ideal.
>trigger is excellent for a factory semi-auto trigger, heavy but short and crisp single stage with no take-up
>the safety is an afterthought and the location of it is retarded
>recoil spring is insanely stiff, there's a reason these things have massive bolt handles
>bolt won't go fully into battery unless it's slammed shut using the hold-open catch. extremely loud. there's no way to quietly push the bolt into battery
>the retard-strong recoil spring and necessity to slam the bolt shut means that these things are prone to slam firing, NEVER load one of these fuckers unless it's pointed in a safe direction
>optics mounting system is retarded
>REFUSES to run shitty russnigger steel case rounds, won't even chamber 'em
>doesn't reliably cycle mild ammo
>LOVES hot ammo
>rifle cycles extremely fast and has practically zero muzzle climb, follow-up shots can be performed at light speed
>stock is built for shooting using iron sights, if you want to run an optic you either have to nigger-rig a cheek riser to the stock or shoot with a jugular-weld
>mangles the fuck out of brass and ejects empties at orbital velocity, brass isn't reusable afterwards
>>
>>64869800

Sup /brg/, new to /k/ and owning firearms in general (though have shot many for years). I'm really close to pulling the trigger, no pun intended, on a 1941 Finnish Mosin Nagant. I know it's a meme gun, but I've always wanted one of these things. I have a few questions:

>For a decent condition, later-year (say post-1938) Finnish Mosin Nagant, is like $1200 for one that's really really pretty a decent price?
>Also any advice on owning a moist nugget for the first time would be appreciated

>I own a subcompact pistol (Bodyguard 2.0) and want to also build an AR-15 later. Is owning a moist nugget + AR-15 redundant?

>Retard question: can I throw this in a case and bring this fuckin thing to a range? I'd love to run a few hundred rounds through it and get a feel for 7.62 as opposed to what I'm usually shooting (380 auto)

Pic related is $1,300 on gunbrokers.com 1941 Finnish Mosin Nagant that I was considering, but I'm sure I'm overpaying.

>AR+Nigga
No, they are completely different kinds of weapons. AR's are boring in the sense that they are the standard for modern rifles, but you can do anything with the AR platform. It'll get you acclimated to building a gun (at lost cost), and it's in a very common, cheap calibre so you don't need to agonize at your wallet each time you want to go shooting. There is also remanufactured ammo which is even cheaper, and some people might give you shit for buying but fuck 'em. You aren't collecting brass, the shit from legit websites isn't Bubba's hot load, and the worst you'll deal with is some kind of cycling issue. Which, most guns have anyway with at least some ammo.
>can I throw this in a case and bring this fuckin thing to a range?
Yes, I mean, it's only 7.62. If a range can't handle 7.62 then it can't handle rifle rounds. All ranges will tell you what you can and can't shoot at them. There is a relatively small in-door range near me where you can fire .50 BMG but they will only let you use their ammo. Outdoor ranges, I've never heard of calibre restrictions before in my life. They always use a giant pile of dirt/sand/gravel as the backstop so nothing is getting through it. But if you feel concerned, just call the place and ask what the rules are.
>>
>>64871536
>$400?
>$500?
Probably. I'm biased. I admit money is worth less than 2-5 yrs ago by HALF, so doubling sticker price is not unreasonable. I saw a can of fucking Campbell’s soup for a buck and a half, that shit was 4/$1. But, I'm older. Honestly, gas has not increased commensurately with fucking soup.

I would say that's a $500 rifle. It's a post-war refurb with a very common barrel maker & date. Personally I dislike the m/91's triangular front post and V-notch so if you want something to do a lot of shooting and you're willing to spend in the $6-800 range get a m/39 which has the very nice Mansner sights.

Hey /brg/, I noticed my M1A gas piston isn't freely sliding anymore, like with gravity when I open the action. I haven't had any issues in terms of functioning, so the gas pressure and inertia from the oprod are sufficient, but I'm worried this could become an issue in the future. Has this been an issue for any M1A/M14 type owners here? I cleaned my piston and the channel it sits in, but its still not freely sliding. I'm going to order that hand drill that sadlak makes to clean it, just wanted to see if anyone had insight before then.
>>
>>64875594
my m1a did that because the piston corroded or oxidized a little bit after my rifle sat for a very long time with no maintenance. i just put some elbow grease into it when cleaning the piston and the gas cylinder. lots of brushing plus those sadlak tools. if i really cared, i'd probably replace the piston at some point.
>>
>>64875979
Right so after extensive cleaning I realized I'm retarded. I over torqued the gas cylinder lock. I should probably shim it, but I tightened it more than how it was because it seemed a turn too loose. I should probably shim it ASAP, but at least I didn't really fuck it up as the threads are fine and the gas piston now moves freely with a turn backed out from it.

I think MKE was previously imported as ZQI. Somebody gave me a couple boxes of ZQI and I remember not liking it but I don't remember why, it was ~10+ years ago. That was when Korean surplus in sealed cans was readily available so I just bought that instead.

Hello frens. I'm new here, and will soon be new to the military. What is the general opinion on this boom stick? Will it be fun to use?
>>
>>64861187
My first BR was a Vepr-FM .308. I don’t recommend it in current year due to lack of parts sourcing.
>>
>>64884620
I guess I should clarify that I dont recommend a saiga .308 converted or otherwise.
>>
>>64884592
Alas, not a battle rifle. It's not a full-sized cartridge.
>>
Been awhile since I last shot this beauty but earlier this week I did replace the springs in two mil surp mags that were given me feeding issues with some Wolff springs. Hopefully, this solves that problem.
>>
>>64884637
Sorry, i posted in the wrong thread then. As long as i'm here, can you give me a quick rundown on the difference? What that means exactly? I'm new to guns, i'm a scientist. I just got offered a job in a military lab, but it's a position that requires basic and offciers training and we will carry our weapons and shoot regularly. So i'm trying to learn.
>>
>>64884664
BR equals 7.62NATO or .308 WINchester as a minimum calibre.
>>

>>
>>64884754
Unfortunately no and its actually a Hesse (Todd Bailey) built rifle. However, I believe thanks to that I got the rifle for a decent price ($1500ish) on Gunjoker since I think the Hesse name drop in the title scared away a lot of buyers lol. Whoever owned it before had a sweet trigger job done on it though. All in all great rifle.
>>
>>64884751
So battle Rifle (BR) is 7.62 and up? The CZ Bren 2 does come in the 7.62x39 variant issued to our military, and that is what i had in the photo as well. Or am i missing something? What is the 7.62 CZ Bren if not a battle rifle?
I really am new to all this, so the nomenclature is still confusing to me.
>>
>>64884813
That is not 7.62NATO. You can look up what that is and the difference betwixt.
>>
>>64884813
case length also matters, 7.62x39 is too short to be considered a battle rifle round.
>>
>>64884813
7.62x39 is an intermediate cartridge, 7.62x51 is a full power cartridge. a 7.62x39 CZ bren is an assault rifle.

Case length has nothing to do with it.

I was thinking 10.5, but looking around I also see 12.5 and 13.5 come up far more often and appear to be better options. I have an Aero Upper and Lower just waiting for the BCG, Barrel and then Handguard. I’m very interested to hear an opinion.

I like to think of it as a 50mm case length over all (LOA) minimum and anything greater. This could include the 6.5mm and even 6mm bores. Hot take: .243Win is a battle cartridge.

Me and my friends have dropped a fuck-ton of moose with 6.5 Swede, dead on the spot or within a hundred yards of the spot.
Yes, 308Win is more than enough for elk.
Just choose a high quality bullet that pierces good and deep with controlled expansion.
Place that bullet in the heart or lungs. You'll be good to go, without having to spend all night trekking through miles of knee-deep snow looking for blood trails

And remember, if you shoot at game that runs away, just sit tight for 10 minutes before you go running off after it.
An injured animal will find a nice quiet hiding spot to bleed out in. An injured animal that knows it's being chased will take off in a blind sprint until it collapses, they can make it far before they bleed out.

Just got my RFB back from its 4th vacation at Cocoa, FL. Had the recoil springs and gas block replaced under warranty, and she was probably as close to new as ever.
First shot at the range and I get a case separation. Guess the S&B brass couldn't handle a little overgas, but damn I was at B+15 with the suppressor piston and it still ripped the rim out.
It still looks good inside, maybe I was just starting with too much gas? Maybe I should just try again at B+25 this time? I really don't want to send it back to Lel-Kek again for round 5 of repairs.

Meanwhile mainland chinks have a bunch of latent Saka/Kuchean DNA that pretty much gets activated upon White mixing. Japs are really wierd though themselves genetically. Basically proto Viets that conqured proto-Amerindians with some Korean mixing they won't ever acknowledge. Jap traits pretty much vanish by the 2nd generation of mixing. I'm increasingly interested in a fighting AR-10. Seems like all the best parts about 5.56 are mostly washed out at a smaller scale. When you're just a lone guy defending your property or even in a small group, fire superiority seems like a fleeting thing to chase.

Anyhow I'm eyeing a CMMG 308 complete upper. Anyone have experience? If I understand correctly, I can adapt this to work on a regular dpms or lr308 lower?

>>64891888
As a lone dude, my thoughts would be to resort to violence as an absolute last resort due to being outnumbered a majority of the time. If you HAD to engage, you'd probably want something that will make you seem like a bigger and meaner threat, so yeah I'd think .308 would be a good choice.
Ideally you'd engage a threat at distance and then reposition to avoid getting pinned down. You'd want something that can shoot farther than the opponent, hits hard enough to take them out of the fight, and accurate enough to do the previous two steps repeatably.
Keep a sidearm on you just in case though.
You'll want to focus on something that's relatively weight efficient and accurate. Something like the Ruger SFAR might be a good starting point, or maybe the PSA sabre AR10s. Lots of options.
>>
Call me a poorfag and not /brg/, but Midway has a one time only 60% off sale on a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x 42mm for $199. If you want a cheap scope to put on your rifle for long range, there's a lot worse options out there.

Welp lads, I am almost done with my very first AR-15 after being a pistolpleb for so long
Here's my gun:

>Ruger Harrier AR-15
>Stock everything from the manufacturer
>Handguard adapters for tacticool shit (light)
>Pressure pad on top activates light, laser, or strobe
>Handguard is cleanly cable-routed and ziptied
>Reflex sight needs to be borescoped a little better
>Gray grippy hockey tape around lower parts + grip cause black + gray is cool
>Also I really like the feel of the tape, makes the AR much more fun to hold
>2x 30 round mags pinned to 15 legally ( :/ )
>Gray straps for LARPing
>Instant enlistment in Gravy Seals Meal Team Six

I really love this thing. I love the idea that an AR is kinda what you make it. It shoots great, too. The next upgrades might be a new trigger (it's only okay) and a suppressor. Then I think she's ready for everything I need to clear my house and pretend I'm killing bad guys.

Based on the hand guard and barrel I have, any suppresor recs?

Vogt Auctions in San Antonio, their gun related auctions are infrequent but they get some cool stuff. I was looking at lots 547, 572, and 575. I was outbid by at least $200 on all, and I wasn't willing to go higher with their 20% BP before tax.

I don't get why Boomers do that shit on ammo of all things. Do they not know they have to pay the premium from the auction? Do they pretend to themselves that they can just haggle their way out of it?

They don't care, they gotta spend all their funds or else the zoomers might get an inheritance and we can't have that.

Talk me out of an M1A. I already have an AR10, FAL, and G3.
Is the loaded/national match version worth getting over the standard?

Gorgeous rifle, anon.
BTW where I come from these steel drums have a menacing aura. You are not using them for dumping bodies into a reservoir, right...?

No, I'm not going to do that.
>I already have an AR10, FAL, and G3.
What is the next obvious choice?
>Is the loaded/national match version worth getting over the standard?
A better rifle is always preferable.
