Welp lads, I am almost done with my very first AR-15 after being a pistolpleb for so long
Here's my gun:
>Ruger Harrier AR-15
>Stock everything from the manufacturer
>Handguard adapters for tacticool shit (light)
>Pressure pad on top activates light, laser, or strobe
>Handguard is cleanly cable-routed and ziptied
>Reflex sight needs to be borescoped a little better
>Gray grippy hockey tape around lower parts + grip cause black + gray is cool
>Also I really like the feel of the tape, makes the AR much more fun to hold
>2x 30 round mags pinned to 15 legally ( :/ )
>Gray straps for LARPing
>Instant enlistment in Gravy Seals Meal Team Six
I really love this thing. I love the idea that an AR is kinda what you make it. It shoots great, too. Some kind anon in another thread said before I go suppressor, which I hope is my last upgrade, I need to upgrade to these parts:
>Aimpoint PRO
>Surefire 600 light
>Larue MBT-S trigger (I may prioritize this as I love a good trigger)
>Several more mags
Totally agreed on all this, but should I prioritize anything that's not the trigger? I'm still new to ARs so I think most of my attachments are cheapish to get me through. But I plan to do some work with the trigger and mags before other stuff with quality parts. THEN I think she's ready for everything I need to clear my house and pretend I'm killing bad guys.

I had a complete 16 inch with the pencil barrel it’s decently light. I wouldn’t say it’s noticeably lighter than a block II or anything. Hard to tell cause I didn’t have as much shit on my bcm and I haven’t had it for 4 years. Now my gun has a suppressor and more optics on it so I really don’t know. But I don’t think it was like ultra light feeling. These new captchas fucking suck btw and are impossible to do while driving.

The ELW is a profile for the barrel the rest of the upper is standard weight
Standard BCM 16" barrel is 28oz
ELW BCM 16" barrel is 22.736oz
>Is it noticeable
Significantly so, rifle feels a lot better
Functionally the ELW profile also shifts a lot of barrel mass back towards the chamber which helps with throat erosion when compared to the Standard (govt) profile. Obviously going to be more noticeable on the longer barrels than the shorter but the shift in mass is still gainz regardless of length.
T. went from BCM 11.5" @ 21oz to 17oz lightweight and can tell
>>
>>64895111
Gotcha, that’s fair honestly, but I imagine the difference would be pretty big if you carried it for hours or days on end larping or something. I was digging around and found a Reddit post claiming a 14.5 BCM elw upper was something like 3.25-3.5 pounds which would make it like a full pound lighter than a URGI (thank you geissele for actually having the weight on your site). That’s pretty considerable imo, especially if I’m carrying it around a lot. Also yeah, the new captchas aren’t hard but they’re just inconvenient and annoying
>>
Didn't realize LaRue had rifles, why are they so much? That's about Knights prices. Anyways, why is KAC that much? I get the point that they only have x amount of machines or something but with how much theyre scamming people for ~$700 lowers they ought to have that money

>BCM M4 upper 8.5oz
>DD gas tube 0.7oz
>SF4P weight 3.9oz
>Standard BCG 11.5oz
>Airborne Charging Handle 1.4oz
3.78lb for the MCMR 13" on a 14.5" gun vs 4.18lb for the NEAR URGI

2019 so you could buy AAC takeoffs for $150
>>64895133
Larue stuff is fairly overpriced
KAC costs a lot because a lot of parts they make are custom forgings and annoyingly complex compared to a lot of other parts. They be building stuff, maybe not the most cost effective stuff but that was never their goal in the first place.

No, guy was likely thinking "wtf is going on, is there an intruder?"
Context: "According to authorities, on Dec. 2, deputies were serving a search warrant that named Cristian at his home on Southwest 155th Street and Southwest 102nd Court in Palmetto Estates around 5:30 a.m.
In the body camera footage, deputies with the Special Response Team were seen outside the home, pounding on the door, ordering occupants of the home to come outside.
Three people then came out of the home: a man, a woman, and a woman carrying a crying child.
Inside the home, a man was seen running with a handgun on his side, and deputies immediately fired their weapons, causing the man to fall.
He was identified as Christopher.
Another man inside the home, identified as Cristian, was seen with his hands up, screaming, "What's going on? What's going on?"
MDSO said that deputies then provided aid to Christopher, but he was pronounced dead at the home.
Cristian was arrested and charged with 15 counts of possessing images of sexual performance by a child and 10 counts of promoting or attempting to promote sexual performance by a child, before being taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. On Wednesday, his bond was set at $87,500.
Authorities have not commented on Christopher's involvement in the investigation, if any.
No deputies were hurt in the shooting.
The case against Cristian Barata
According to an arrest report for Cristian Barata, on Oct. 11, 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received multiple cyber tips from an electronic service provider reporting a user for uploading video containing child sexual abuse material."

MCMR is a nice rail
Vseven does a slightly lighter rail but its a bit uglier and significantly more expensive.
Raider rail is cool, wish they cut the pic off the bottom front and just did a huge arca rail section there.

But see that doesn’t really make a ton of sense considering govt profile barrels really perform fine in most scenarios, and if nothing else the ELW is an improvement on that. >>
>>64895258
its an idea i've kind of conjured up out of my ass, the image is a photoshop
basically when you want a muzzle device you just put on a threaded barrel extension thats just long enough to clear the block, and when you want it flush you replace it with a thread protector
and you'd widen the hole on the front part of the block to make room

If it's a milspec trigger it's not critical to upgrade, milspec is a-ok. If it's really shitty, just get a larue MBT and call it good.
Ruger wouldn't have been my first choice but for a first rifle there's much worse. There's really not much you should or could upgrade at this point without getting an entirely new upper. Just focus on a better optic and more ammo and go shoot. You'll quickly figure out what works and what doesn't work, what you do and don't like, etc. Get a chest rig, you can get a cheap krydex on ebay easily, just something to hold mags on your person.
Aimpoint PRO is an economic choice, good bang for your buck. I like ACOGs but even used are expensive. There's a lot of optics to choose from, but those two are probably all you will ever need on a basic rifle.
Def check out the OP catbox links, lots of good info there.

Take everything off, install a pair of MBUS, and fire 200 rounds through it.
Then you can start putting stuff on it, but a holosun ARO is about the cheapest you should go on dots. Align your dot to your (already zeroed) BUIS and you can throw away whatever cheap boresight/laser you wasted money on and already be on paper at your zero distance.
>surefire 600
If you're buying surefire DFT is the play because it's not 2020.
>larue MBT-S
Either this or a schmid two stage (the MBT is better but by a small margin, and you can buy an entire schmid LPK from midway with their two stage and have backup small parts).
>Several more mags
yeah

As you all know, the 9mm NATO standard has been 124gr FMJ loaded to +P for decades [designated M882 Ball in the American military] which is what Heckler & Koch designed the MP5 around. What about the new M1152 and M1153 which are loaded with meplat [flat nose but still FMJ] and "special purpose" [legally distinct from hollow points according to DOD lawyers] bullets respectively. These cartridges run in the current automatic pistol models [M17 and M18] but I haven't seen any information about them working in submachineguns. If there was going to be an issue, you would expect them to arise with the magazines because the Sig Saur P320 is staggered whereas the MP5 happens to actually be double stacked

>0.039" worse mean radius is somehow statistically significant and damns the barrel profile for all time

Amazing anon, this is the damming proof? Less than 1mm of difference in one spec and better in the other ?

Im glad we agree the BCM barrel is superior.

If you are right wing and live in a blue or purple state you would be a fool to not move as soon as you can. This will get much worse across the board it will effect you.

Quite the step back from

It turns out they are actually grouping better than geissele taper barrels?

You can see the G$ Super Pooper Scooper group more consistently over the course of 30 rounds
>reject the evidence of your eyes
>>64897403
Two of the same barrels selected at random. One had a damaged crown and both of them had tooling marks on the chrome plating [sign of a worn mandrel] which is why neither could group MOA whereas the Geissele Super Duty barrel achieved MOA in the first five rounds before ballooning with heat

Numbers support it being 0.039" (7%) more consistent but throwing extreme spread at the end accounting to a 1/4" (10%) more. The barrels are functionally the same when you arent shooting off a lead sled. But to assume that ELW is somehow unusable due to its "grouping like shit" "with a wandering zero" and comparing it against a geissele barrel that grouped worse is retarded.
No shit heavier barrels are going to group more consistently over longer strings. Just like shorter barrels grouping better over shorter strings of fire. But shiggity diggity doo both of these barrels shit on a PSA CHF CL M4 govt profile barrel, govt posters get the rope.

I don't understand how the ELW is better in any way other than literally weight savings, unless that's the point you're trying to make. Sure the accuracy is fine, but there's no doubt that over time it's going to heat up and disperse rounds faster than a heavier profiled barrel. Minute of Man is Minute of Man, but I don't feel like sustained accuracy is worth it for a few ounces of weight savings....
Not to mention wouldn't that ELW barrel droop like a MF if you add/remove a suppressor? Seems like the POI shift would be several MOA.

Dawg this shit is printing a 2" group on a sled after 30 rounds of sustained fire. That is better accuracy 30 rounds in than a cooled 5 round group from most service rifles in use around the world. Its perfectly fine profile for anything youre doing with a general purpose carbine. I dont think anyone is advocating for a ELW SPR.
Pic rel is something interesting to chew on as well. Prone supported against E-Type silhouettes which are 20x40" targets.
>>
>>64897926
Imo weight for a general purpose carbine is gonna be more useful than long range sustained fire capability anyway. I feel like a lot of guys forget that when doing any kind of training or larping (or “combat”) you’re gonna be carrying it most of the time anyway so the lighter weight is really nice.
That’s the one thing I remember from the M27 when I used it. I almost loved it, it was extremely accurate, controllable (though recoiled more than an m4), could do sustained or long range fire no issue, was still decently maneuverable, at least before the suppressors, but holy fuck was it heavy. It was was about as heavy as an M4 with m203 from what I remember, which is inexcusable for a carbine. You’d get tired just running with it and carrying it around so when it came time to hold security with it, your arms would be dying just holding it up

People lack the bodies to be doing large scale fire and maneuver anyway so why are we burning through our limited ammo supply with sustained fires?
>Rifle heavy
You see it all the time
People start with the c clamp super aggressive with the gun but as the days wear on their grip shifts back further and further. People start holding that shit into doorframes, lamp posts, etc.

is running nv without a suppressor really that bad or are people spending over a grand and bowing to the atf for a minor improvement? it seems to be important at lengths under 14.5" but beyond that are the benefits really that substantial?

Rumors of new SFAR generation coming out of old anderson plant arent too exciting either.
>>64898247
A smith vortex is really really low flash, lower flash than a lot of suppressors.
>Minor improvement
Nah its pretty significant
-Ability to communicate
-Less reaction to broken muff/earplug seal
-Significantly harder to ascertain the source of shooter
-Less blast in the face of those around you
-Less dust/debris kicked up
Suppressors generally a fantastic time
>>
>>64898030
And even then, what barrel you have when you’re burning through like 4 mags doing a support by fire or whatever (basically a nonfactor for civilians) isn’t going my to matter because it will get very hot regardless

No half measures, you either commit to self defense by blasting the intruders or stay in your room and cover the door. Rushing at the entrance only to point at the ground was a fatal error

Yes. So exactly what I said, man was persecuted for having done nothing wrong.
>No half measures, you either commit to self defense by blasting the intruders or stay in your room and cover the door. Rushing at the entrance only to point at the ground was a fatal error
That part I agree with, but that can be attributed to a lack of training, the act itself is reasonable.
