I recently purchased my first AR.
Should I store it with the bolt drawn back so I can just push the release to chamber a round, or should I leave the magazine loose and run the charging handle to chamber it?
Is any part of the mechanism negatively affected by you leaving the bolt back?
>>
>>
>>64884776
buffer spring will be constantly under tension but that doesnt really matter (A2 chime in here) unles you are going to leave it like that for a year at a time and never shoot it or fuck with it.
i keep a loaded mag in always with a round chambered and safety on.

I need advice. I cannot shoot a group 100 yard group at a bench to save my fucking life with my SPR. It's probably a hand-sized group and maybe a bit better, but very inconsistent. Then on the otherhand I can just shoot a smaller torso sized steel silhouette offhand with my elcan at 200 yards fairly easily on the first try, and do it consistently. At a bench for my 100 yard zero, I have a bipod, a bag to support the bottom of the stock, etc. should I be pulling the gun fairly hard into my shoulder pocket when shooting a group? Should the reticle go off target from the recoil when I shoot, or should I hold it firmer?
>very confident i mounted the optic correctly
>77gr aac
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>64885751
dont trust your performance with steel targets, steel is very forgiving. can you shoot from a bench with other rifles fairly well? it might just be your fundamentals if not.
have you tried other ammo to make sure it isnt just AAC being bullshit? have you tried a different BCG to make sure there isnt bad headspace or some other issue? do you have bad feedramps which are gouging the rounds on the way in? finally if you rule out all of that, your barrel is trash and needs to be replaced.

What do you mean you cant just hit a simple group at 100? My boss noguns shoot 2-4cm groups on the first try. Is your trigger pulling you of when shooting? Get a new drop in trigger and just focus on slow shopting. Sand bag even works when its supporting your grip and maybe buy the PRS Lite stock, that thing is sturdy and got a bag rider
>>
>>64885751
All ring screws torqued and loc-tited? QD levers adjusted properly (grab the scope and shove it back and forth hard). Barrel but torqued and gas block screws tight? Maybe try the scope on another gun to make sure it isn't the problem.
>>
>>64885751
good groups are not as common as internet posters would have you believe. If you're consistently under 2 MOA with good ammo you're doing just fine. That being said if you can't do better than a fist sized group with good ammo, there's probably a problem with your setup or technique.
Could be ammo, barrels can be picky. AAC is usually pretty good for me but I would definitely try a couple other ammo types too. If you know somebody who's a good shot have them give it a go to rule out sone variables.
Otherwise just make your shooting setup as close to a lead sled as possible to gauge mechanical accuracy aka front bag/bipod, rear bag, hold the rifle firmly but gently, find the rhythm of your breathing and squeeze the trigger when the reticle falls onto target when your body is mostly at rest after exhaling.
and on't try to rush the next shot(s) follow same technique.
could be something related to your gun/optic. not sure which scope that is but parallax error is usually pretty negligible at 100. Retorque and witnesses mark the scope mount bolts to make sure nothing is coming loose

>Should reticle go off target from the recoil
You are likely dialed all the way in on your optic and losing eyebox, so youre shooting , its recoiling and youre adjusting to get back on the gun to target/reticle and inducing parallax when doing so.
Load up cheap 55gr and practice loading your gun so you have more consistent sight recovery. Also for shits and giggles you should dial back to 4x and shoot the same steel you shoot on the elcan.

What would be the ideal solution for fixing my battery situation in terms of optics?
I got CR 1/3N’s for a PRO and CMORE
I got CR 123A’s for a light and pvs14
I got CR 18650’s for the same light
I got CR 1632’s for a pistol dot
I got batteries out the ass. 2032’s are appealing so it’s one battery for say a rmr/similar and t2, but is there a better solution here?

I do not know if this is the right place, but I have an AR15 configured for both 556 and 223 for when I am in the field and a S&W Shield 2.0 sidearm chambered for 9mm.
I am looking into an AR pistol primary for home defense and for shooting nor more than 50 yards, but I want to put a can on it, as I already have hearing issues and I do not want a round that will go through my neighbor's house (brick home about 20 yards away from my place)
This means I am looking for something with either 9mm, 10mm, 45apc or 300aac but for the life of me I cannot figure out which Caliber, I want it in.
9mm is no better than my sidearm, so I would just put and FRT on it
10mm more power than a 9mm but cannot be suppressed
45 auto/acp can be suppressed but the options for AR pistol is either a fuck 1920 tommy gun replica or over $1500
300acc at sub sonic and suppressed is great but I would like to keep my body part when I purchase the gun and ammo.
Do you guys think you can help me figure this out?

You will be fine, the odds of you thwamping someone with a rifle in your house are astronomically low.
>>64886102
>how do I correctly shoulder it
Put the buttstock in your shoulder and roll the gun up to your sight line with your cheek on the buttstock. No broken neck position the AR is very intuitive with how high most sights and optics sit.
>Trigger finger
Probably your first pad across the trigger. Barring you shooting national match or working really hard marksmanship wise you shouldnt concern yourself with placement. Focus instead on clean consistent pulls. Its an 8lb rifle with a 5.5lb trigger pull, not a 2lb pistol with a 5.5lb trigger pull.
>Muzzle break

I think its okay video
All magfed support weapons kinda a meme. Carrying D60s is stupid and trying to lay sustained fires with a 30 round mag fed "recce lmg" vs a 30 round mag fed carbine is sort of ????. The saw is an overbuilt pig to sustain rates, but its also beltfed to physically enable those rates.
>I dont care about sustained fires
So apply your carbine you already own for the same role?
>Links and belted ammo is hard to source and sustain
Yeah so maybe spraying your limited ammo supply through 30 round mags also hard to sustain?
Most larpers dont have the numbers, let alone trained numbers to make extensive use of these sorts of firearms. People are just happy they get faux full auto and want an excuse to build a new toy. Nothing wrong with that but its not going to be radically disruptive for most people. They are going to spray a couple hundo 50cpr 5.56 and then realize the gun only functional as part of a larger larp element that isnt present at the local outdoor range lel.

please don't buy a PSA upper I have 2 and I'm tired of them both being finicky pieces of shit, my 16" with an H2 super42 recoils pretty aggressively and an H3 makes it short stroke just enough to shoot like 2-3 rounds before bolting it. I guess I'd need an adjustable gas block or to look at those buffers that are like steps in-between the H1-3's. They work, they just don't run "nicely" and making them "nicer" is a waste of money.
go buy a BCM for 700 they give you a free 200 dollar BCG and will install/time one of their BCM A2 style flashhiders for like 80 bucks, for 780~ you'll have a better upper with better fit/finish and a barrel that doesn't have its gas port drilled out with a fucking 1/2" bit, and a handguard that doesn't look like it's clamped on for dear life... it might get attached to a stealth PSA LOWER but that's way less to worry about then the fuckin uppers they make.. gunna get a nicer lower to go with it soon but I blew like 1400 bucks in gun stuff and then 500 buying a Quest 3 to play VTOL VR which is fucking RAD and worth it lmao

Pick one.
The other feature that the Gas Buster has is the higher rear lip, which may prevent some gas from venting directly backwards, but the channel is clearly designed for a right handed shooter and lots of enhanced charging handles have this taller lip, not just the PRI one.

theres lots of cringe on these rifles, can you spot them all?
im trying this foam tape shit while i wait for the ruistolium cans to ship, ive seen people use them for cable management and have heard it works alright but i did see one report of the tapee melting in rain and that it may not do too well with high heat which would be a problem with my thin ass handgaurds, only one way to find out for sure tho i guess

It looks as if the goal was to make one that was "long range" and another that was "short range/night", once you take the tape off. Guess he just wanted a lot of ergonomic commonality between the two.

>is a no magnification optic a worthwhile substitute for an optic that has at minimum 6x magnification available
This is like asking if a kitchen knife is a worthwhile substitute for a spear.

The AR needs a application from the club that its needed for competition and once you got it you can request a gun entry into the license. I cant justify the usage of a camo on a competition gun. A bolt, doesnt matter, thats not the same. I use Cerakote base color and than sponge to add colors. Bergara HMR PRO 6.5 Heavy barrel should look sexy that way

Seems to be that the smart thing to do is pick a mounting system that conforms to the hub standard, and then buy only hub compatible suppressors.
And best all around, that's just going to be the Ambient Arms Exo, because quite frankly anything that doesn't do what it does has been kind of rendered obsolete.

I have a foregrip, and a flashlight + laser combo light mounted on my handguard. I have a few of these MLOK Picatiny adapters. I don't think I NEED to mount anything there. Fuck, I don't even need the flashlight+laser combo but fuck off okay its my LARP tool.
Any fun handguard mounts I guess?

What’s everyone preferred barrel length? If you could only have one AR for the rest of your life, what length would it be? This isn’t a “which is better” post, just purely your preferences and why

I dunno it seems like a gimmick to me. Do you think tons of companies are going to license their tech and it will become widely adopted? Seems like people have been dealing with hot cans for decades and will continue to do so.

>>64888559
Sounds like either your handguard or your rail section is out of spec.

>>64889266
I don't know about licensing, but one more thing you don't have to think about at all while you're getting shot at is never a gimmick in my opinion.
>>
>>
>>
>>64889230
Yeah, although I wouldn't be surprised if what he trained with and what he was issued/used in (((service))) weren't 1 to 1. This isn't a critique. I think the desire to build service weapons comes down more to nostalgia than any practical concepts of muscle memory or manual of arms familiarity.
>>
>>
>>64889296
That’s fair, I was a zogbot too and have fond memories of the M27, except for the weight lmao. Fucking thing was heavier than a fully kitted out m16a4. Only reason I’d get it is nostalgia and bc it is kind of cool
