I have a 3.98 GPA in Business (meme degree I know), am I fucking myself by going Naval Officer instead of Air Force or Army? I don't want to wait around for years for the Air Force

I hear Army treats junior officers a lot like enlisted in the worktype and workload except higher pay? Seems kinda crappy. I definitely don't want to be around gang bangers, cartel kids, and hood rats if I can help it. The Navy separating Officers from Enlisted seems nice, Air Force culture also seems nicer too.

Uh, what do you want out of the Air Force? You seem aware that it can take years to get picked up for OTS. So what do you want more? AF or Navy? If you want Navy more, then slam dunk. If you want AF more, do you want it so bad you’d be willing to wait years as opposed to leaving for Navy OCS in like 3 months?

Air Force seems to have much better working hours and conditions, ie; not sharing a closet sized room with 3 other guys and not being away from my wife as often.
I plan to at least try to make a 20 year career out of this

Job dependent.

Job dependent. Also, you’re not underway all the time.

Do you have job goals beyond “AF or Navy”

How long until E6 in the Air Force? Grok, gimme an answer
>Promoting to Technical Sergeant (E-6) in the Air Force typically takes about 12 years of service on average.
How long until E6 in the Army?
>Promoting to Staff Sergeant (E-6) in the Army typically takes between 4 to 8.5 years of service, with an average of roughly 6 years.
Why would I volunteer to be broke for longer and have less legal protections?

Well I'm colorblind and my degree is in business, so that more or less leaves me with Supply in both branches.
My goal is to spend as much time with my family as possible and retire at 50-ish with a decent chunk of money. Civilian market is fucked and I can't get a job offer for anything over $17/hr even with a degree where I'm at

People who enlist don’t care about promotion rates/timelines. That doesn’t matter until like year 5. Nobody is asking a recruiter about E-6 promotion rates.
Also, that shit changes all the time and is job dependent. It’s really not worth worrying about when you’re first joining. Most Air Force people just accept they’ll probably be terminal E-6 if they stay in. Beats the Marines at least.

>Well I'm colorblind and my degree is in business, so that more or less leaves me with Supply in both branches.
Well, you have more options than just supply, but, yeah, pilot ain’t happening. You’re probably gonna be some kind of desk warrior. Still, I’d look into your job options a little more. I think the Navy makes it a little easier to lock in a job you actually want. Although, Air Force missileer (13N) might check a lot of boxes for you, but I don’t know how much control over your job the AF actually gives.
>My goal is to spend as much time with my family as possible and retire at 50-ish with a decent chunk of money.
Probably a lotta jobs that will limit away time from family in both branches.
>Civilian market is fucked and I can't get a job offer for anything over $17/hr even with a degree where I'm at
Well, if you’re currently unemployed, that changes a lot. Like I said, can you wait 2ish years until you finally have your feet standing on Alabama soil (or wherever OTS is)? Assuming you even get picked up. Unless something has changed recently, I heard Air Force OTS is still kind of a shitshow. How soon do you have to pin your butterbars before shit starts falling apart?

I thought 13N strictly required a STEM degree?
Otherwise, I'd be fine with sitting in the shelter hovering my hand over the destroy the world button for a few days a week.
I currently have a job but no health insurance and can't easily rent. Life isn't going to collapse but I'm one mistake away from drowning. I'm also older at 30 so time commitment to sit around waiting is not really easy anymore since sitting around bumming on minimum wage trying to care for a family is hard.

Yeah, it’s really sounding like Navy is gonna be the better bet for you. You can reach out to an Air Force/Space Force recruiter. They can probably tell you what the timeline is these days for getting picked up, but Navy will probably be the quicker option. Coast Guard is also pretty tough to get into. Don’t go Marines.
Maybe consider Army too, but Navy is sounding like the best option for you. Look into some Navy jobs and see if any of them would be a good fit for you.
>>
>>64892854
Coast Guard bans the colorblind entirely from O side, just blanket ban.
Marines I'm too old for and don't want to do anyways
So the options are Army, Navy, or Air Force/Space Force.
I already have an application in for Supply Corps but it weighs on me I may regret not waiting in a few years

Eternal ETN1 Shitass posting
Lightning round Pt 2:
>Nuke community is full of furries
True, but believe it or not most technical communities are
>Nukes make rank fast
I wanted to talk about this more. I joined in Jun 2019 and made E6 in November 2024. All nukes are E4 coming out of A school (first school after bootcamp, 3 or 6 months depending on rate, MMN is 3 EMN and ETN is 6), then you do Nuclear Power School (another 6 months at the same location, learn nuclear physics and plant operations), then prototype (Another 6 months, qualify on a training sub for the first time), then hit the fleet. Once in the fleet, we can reenlist for BIG money and also auto promote to E5. E6 is competitive. E7 requires a very difficult qual as a hard requirement. E6 nukes with gold chevrons (in the navy for 10 or more years without going to NJP) are actively looked down on for this reason. You didn't get the qual you needed to make chief in 10 or more years, you are likely dead weight. An E4/E5 Nuke is just a regular dude, E6 is kinda important, E7+ are walking gods
>I was going to be a nuke but....
Cope, seethe, mald. I'm surprised you didn't knock out your DI or whatever mall ninja shit people like this say
?Whats training like
40 hour work week in A and C school, plus whatever additional hours you're required to do based on grades. I was fortunate to be on 10-0s, meaning 10 additional study hours a week, none required per day. I knew many guys on 25-5s, 25 additional study hours for a minimum of 5 hours a day 5 days a week. It's like grade school, come in, sit down, classroom instruction on different topics, homework, tests. All tests are short answer, no multiple guess. In C school we averaged 3 tests a week for 6 months. Prototype is 6 months on the job training and qualification. This is why we look down on standard navy exams/quals. Is it earned? Yes. Is it annoying to everyone else? Yes. Is it fair? No.
>Do you do operator shit?
Yes and no. Not in the traditional sense.

never thought i would explain this but I'm really bored today so here I go:
>Make a thread

Thus, "thread bake" is simply a shorthand variation/evolution of "bread bake" and "make a thread"

I'm here for you, Shipmate. Being a nuke is dogwater, no doubt, but I remember being in this thread in DEP and almost being scared away by the post in OP. Having been on 2 combat deployments as a Nuke, an LPO, a Reactor Operator, a watch supervisor yaddy yadda, I can say confidentially that it is a shit job, but not even close to the worst one I've had. I actually kinda like it despite it's flaws. I figured I'd come back here and try and set the record straight, at least until they stop posting the prolapsed butthole guy's story as the singular data point.
I would HIGHLY recommend anyone joining with above a 3rd grade reading level to READ Starship Troopers. I mean READ it. The audiobook is available in Youtube. It's required reading at the AF academy as far as I'm aware, and it's the only book you're allowed to bring INTO nuke school. It really changed my perspective on the military and that perspective has served me well.

I have a lipoma on my arm. It doesn't interfere with any functionality or utilizing equipment, isn't big barely 1.5' across and protrudes out a few mm tops, does not cause me any pain or discomfort even if pressed or squished or pushed around, and really isn't even noticeable unless I point it out or my arm is inspected closely. I don't have any paperwork on it and don't have health insurance to get it looked at and biopsied and all that again. Do you think the Army will let me join without any medical records on it, or will I have to get it looked at beforehand and cleared for sure?
>>
>>
>>
>>64897811
Lipoma is not disqualifying. If the doctor at MEPs has a problem with it, the most they'll do is tell you to get it removed and come back when its gone but that's only if it's really noticeable/bad. I would not bring it up with your recruiter or the doctor at MEPS because you said it brings no ill effect on you.
>>
Medfag here sorry for late response.
>I'm currently an EMT.........
>Is joining the military solely to pay for schooling a good idea?
It depends on you. I would not recommend joining SOLELY to get schooling paid for. It can be the biggest influence on your decision, but you should also want the experience.
>What branch would be the best for someone like me?
Since you want to avoid combat at all costs, I would advocate air force, then navy, then army. You may also consider getting an education first and then going to the military for loan repayment, for which there are programs.
>Am I right to worry about being given a combat role/Is there any way to guarantee it doesn't happen?
If you want your paramedic, you can enroll in the Army Paramedic Training Program, which requires that you first become a 68W, or combat medic. 68W is a combat role, you fight with the infantry. If you want to avoid combat, this is not for you.
As for nursing, you can enter the HPSP program with nursing school, then serve active duty, or go to school first and get loan repayment. Nurses do not have combat as a primary part of their job, but nobody can guarantee that you will not be in a firefight. If fired upon, you would be letting your team down by not returning fire.
At this time, I do not believe that the military would be willing to employ conscientious objectors. You will have to decide on whether or not you would be willing to permit shooting back.
>Will the military pay for both paramedic and nursing?
Yes though not at the same time.
>How much schooling will the military pay for, and how much will they pay?
Depends on the type of schooling, I don't know much about general student loans, since I entered with my bachelor's degree.
>And of course, if there's anything else I should know...
I do not recommend taking a medical career in steps. If you want to be a doctor, work towards that. You do not need, nor benefit from, an EMT, Paramedic, and nursing education first.
>>

Not the guy above.
Nursing is an expensive profession to enter that sucks up all your time, leaves you drained, and spits you out like a revolving door. Nurses are extremely replaceable and the career is high turnover.
I highly recommend being a doctor or surgeon instead.
>t. mom was a nurse, family full of doctors
>>
>>
>>
>>64897910
>ADN
No, HPSP is only if you're enrolled in a four-year nursing degree program. You'd have to complete your associates degree and then transfer your credits into a four-year university. IIRC the HPSP is only granted to people that are enrolled in programs that grant them a bachelor's (i.e. four-year universities). Your ADN will give you the second requirement of credits/GPA, though.
Realistically speaking, you should/could start the process now to make sure you maximize the amount of time you receive a stipend for.
>>
>>64897910
Further research, I am wrong about nursing school. The army and air force do not have a BSN program, and the HPSP program pays for additional training for nursing in specialty fields like crit care, trauma, perioperative etc. Unfortunately, I think I'd have to redirect you to an actual medical recruiter to get your questions answered. It appears that the nursing programs require you to already have a BSN, but there are ROTC programs at some colleges that will transition into military service as well.
The VA does have a BSN program though, and an ADN program. I don't know the differences that the VA HPSP program has, except for that you are never at threat of being deployed and you repay your education by working at the VA.
That being said, might be worth talking to a medical recruiter, they will actually leave you alone if you make it clear you're not interested after getting questions answered.
>>
>>64897966
The Navy has a nursing degree program if you're a 3-to-4th year student. I made a mistake in my previous post calling it HPSP when it's called the NCP (nurse candidate program).

Any methods on how to dodge Genesis? I’m aware of how to seal records with IHS, I’ve already contacted every provider & hospital I can think of (down to the one I was born in).
Kicker is that I was previously diagnosed with anxiety, prescribed medication a single time in high school and never refilled. Finished college and looking for direction in life, but would hate to be permanently DSQ’d based on a one-time interaction with this country’s shitty healthcare system. For all intents and purposes I’m a complete normalfag besides the fact that I’m on the 4th channel.
>>
>>64898196
If genesis even has your anxiety usage, the worst they would tell you is that you need to have a doctor say you're no longer anxious (along with the fact you need to be two years clean on ADHD medication, but you already have done that). Do not mention it to your recruiter/MEPs doctor, let them bring it up for you if it's a problem.
>>
>>64898196
They will probably just make you get your prescription records.
However if you want to dodge Genesis entirely you can try this: https://www.reddit.com/r/mhs_genesis/comments/18rop64/how_to_beat_mhs_ genesis/
Warning, it may take longer than just going through the waiver process. I personally haven't heard of anyone trying this. pick your poison.

Federal job questions here,
If someone was on antidepressants or voluntarily went to inpatient therapy, will they know about it like they would with Genesis? Or is ot just a basic health check like for drugs or blood pressure?

Pretty sure they use something similar to Genesis called Join Legacy Viewer.
What they see is diagnosis.
If you want to prevent them from seeing that you gotta restrict your data from surescripts by doing an optout.

Marketing BS. All it really means is taking you from your comfortable environment growing up, removing comforts and distractions, and providing a new and unique lifestyle in a community that is wildly different than what you grew up in. What ends up happening is young adults come out of it with a greater understanding of teamwork, responsibility, and capability.

If youre worried about psych stuff hindering your application you can do a pre-employment psych exam, a MD psychiatrist will evaluate you and give you a clearance letter.

I'm a 19D in the National Guard and I've been given the opportunity to reclass into a 35 series MOS because my section is transferring over to a new company but I'm worried that I won't actually like intel and that it might not actually be a good fit for me.

This is actually very common. The sewage system (called CHT) is all interconnected and has a common drain near the stern of the ship below the waterline. It's stored in a tank with a hull valve so we don't spew sewage into foreign ports. Depending on who lives forward (nearer the bow) and above you, your head is more or less likely to flood. The root of the issue is when females live forward and up, they don't want to put their FHP (Female health products, their tampies and dirty pads) in the trash where it might sit for weeks, so they flush them. (side note, we burn most trash other than food. My berthing was below the incinerator. You always knew when they burned FHP, shit was disgusting). Believe it or not, tampons are made to absorb water. They expand, clog the drain, and eventually backup the system. Also, stupid, subhuman, room temp IQ airplane people airwing) notoriously don't care about the ship (they're only temp attached for a deployment). I've seen cans, apples, towels, and once a whole shoe floating in gray water in my berthing's head. Fuck airdales, actual fucking tourists.
If you are in the Navy/AF in a non-technical role, you are our version of a POG.

11b to 35n reclass here, think we talked in another thread.
Intel, generally, involves a lot of sitting at a desk doing stuff on a computer. That's kinda how that cookie crumbles. That being said, the stuff you (can) do in intel is generally related to real-life operations with a real-world impact, whereas combat arms in peacetime can feel like a lot of practice but never actually playing ball. Your experience can vary greatly by MOS as well as by component (guard/reserve vs active) but my experience going from one to the other has been really rewarding so far, even if my daily duties are vastly different than what they used to be. I also have a lot of opportunities to use my experience and prior skill set to train and mentor people, including some at surprisingly high ranks.
Did you end up looking into the intel jobs available to you a bit more or deciding on one? I think you mentioned 35G, 35P, and 35M or something like that.
>>
>>64902126
Heavily depends on your background.
For me it was a couple months tops. For others, especially those with foreign contacts, spouses with foreign citizenship, foreign investments, criminal history, or significant debt, I've heard horror stories of it taking up to a year or more.
You can ship with just an interim clearance (iirc) but if your stuff is still being adjudicated you can end up in limbo at your AIT location waiting for it.

my brother is 25 and treading water and i've been talking to him about enlisting. he's smart but doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life and thinks it might be a good way to buy some time to figure that out, and get school paid for when he's done. he's looking at intel stuff, 35N, that sort of vibe.
i figure if i was in his shoes, i'd want to go army because of shorter contracts, picking my job, maybe going option 4 or 40, option 19 and picking a cool station.
he thinks that the quality of life is going to suck nuts and air force is the way to go. but if you do that, you've got a minimum 4 year, and you've got a lot less freedom with the job you end up with.

Okay, I'm going to tell you this right now: if you're here to shitpost, don't reply to me. Argue with the neverserved schizo or any of the other trolls that frequent this thread. Leave me out of your nonsense.
>>
>>
>>
>>64903698
I'm not defending 92G, he was a retard, but he was honest. Robert is a filthy little liar that keeps trying to pull stolen valor and trick people into believing nonsense, and he gets insanely upset when I point him out, rather than feed into his deceitful attempts to have others believe his posts are being made by numerous, unrelated anons that don't harbor a personal grudge from getting kicked out of the Army during BCT for openly admitting his only reason to join is to massacre innocent women and children in Afghanistan.
>>
>>64904330
Wrong. Robert has no personal experience so he speaks from a place of sour grapes and endless butthurt thay he got kicked out. Robert has nothing in common with 92G and he was in no way acknowledged or shown any respect by 92G.
Robert is a worm and he is trying to seek external validation through 92G, hence why he is the only one that keeps bringing him up, to the point that he insists 92G is the only person in this general who actually served, and all other people posting here are lying non-serves who are also somehow military recruiters.
>>
>>64904330
>he was honest
He was. He told his story and what happened to him. I wish he had come here sooner and maybe we could have helped him with his reclass. I don't blame him for feeling the way he does.
The difference being, robert. He was one of those situations where someone falls though the cracks and ends up scorned because of it. You're sour because the army weeded you out for being unstable. You want and him are on the same coin, but vastly different sides of it.
Tell us, Robert. Are you upset? He got an honorable discharge? Are you upset 92gfag has actual experience he can draw from when he tells people why he doesn't think the military is a good option, or things he would have done differently?
Robert, you wish you could have been 92gfag.
>>
>>64904363
The truth hurts Robert, so he will ignore it, but eventually he will internalize it, as he has with other topics he used to heavily push. Every year he seems to pick a new topic, and this year it is 92G. I am still waiting for the year he realizes he wasted more of his time seething than he would have if he actually did his time in the Army and finally snaps out of this decade long obsession with getting back at the Army, as if they even fucking care he exists
>>
>>
>>64904413
Which year did you stop calling people schizo? Was it 2 or 3 years? Its hard to remember that far back for a normal person who isn't completely obsessed with trying to "pwn" the non-existent recruiters that apparently spend every waking hour trying to send kids to gas chambers or whatever bullshit your delusional mind will come up with next
>>
>>64904529
Imagine realizing this after so many years of inventing bullshit in your own head. Reading actual posts from other people shows that we all discuss how military service is a mixed bag and it takes deliberate effort to make the most of it. A manchild blinded by impotent rage obviously never actually bothers to read what people say if it isn't conducive to his second-hand talking points.
>>
>>64904755
Why live life if it doesn't ensure anything? Better to rot in a basement where there is a guarantee that nothing will change, rather than strive for better. The worst thing that could ever happen to a pessimist is to be completely right.
>>
>>64904755
>So why take the the chance if it doesn't ensure anything?
Not him but this is the same kind of loser quitter talk that I used to espouse on an almost daily basis in high school over a decade ago.
However, I found out before the tender age of 18 that taking risks was part of life and life's biggest losers never try anything.
As previously stated by someone else in this chain, you can decide to waste your life here - but I'll add that - by doing so you will ensure your time will be wasted.
>>
>>
Robert can keep pretending he is multiple people, but the mass deletion of his posts always reveals the truth. Camus mused that Sisyphus must be happy in his eternal struggle, but Robert has proven that fruitless struggle is not a source of satisfaction. I wonder if Robert can even fathom that his suffering is voluntary and self-inflicted, that he can just stop pushing the boulder and walk away, and doing so will only improve his life.

I wonder how my employer would feel about me taking off to play soldier for 6+ months lol. Does the NG/reserves help employers at all with that?
Would you say it's a good mos for learning radio/radar theory in general? Do you think there are better mos's for that? I'm hoping to improve my civvie career as a microwave/radio tech, learn more about the systems my products go into, etc.
Are they eligible for airborne/ranger school?sf?
>>
>>64905249
Employers cannot punish you for doing so. I have a coworker who I haven't seen in nearly a year because he is constantly being deployed to different cities around the country. That man is at zero risk of losing his job, though obviously he is also doing nothing to get himself promoted.
>>
>>64905249
>I wonder how my employer would feel about me taking off to play soldier for 6+ months lol.
He'd be annoyed for sure, but he would have to eat it by law or face legal consequences.
I'd start pinning down now whether or not you want to be Reserves or NG. There is a difference and they have different deployments + deployment conditions.
>Would you say it's a good mos for learning radio/radar theory
That would be Electronic Warfare Specialist (29E).
>>64905249
>Are they eligible for airborne/ranger school?sf?
Ranger is only active duty.
Check these two pages for Ranger MOS's:
>https://www.benning.army.mil/tenant/75thRanger/RMIB-Rec-Ops-Enlisted. html
>airborne
You would have to check with your recruiter/MEPS when you sign your contract.
>sf
If you want to go NG/Reserves you cannot be SF that's only active duty.
SF has it's own MOS's and pipelines. The 18X pipeline is 2 years long minimum so it's a huge commitment up front. You can also fail out at any time any day of your training, even be recommended out by your peers (who are also SF recruits) if they don't think you're good enough.
SF is always 18 series and Intel SF (18F) requires you to first be an E-6 and be a part of an ODA/ODB (sf team) for atleast 2 years.
18F doesn't really cover the niche you're looking for anyway because SF units are small and in general they rely on other non-SF support units. Basically SF teams have one intel guy but big army has entire intel units supporting SF because it's easier that way.

That's definitely something I'm thinking over. I'm in california, apparently our NG gets a lot of deployment for border security and wildfire stuff. Imo it sounds kinda fun, but I hear reserves have more opportunities for promotion, and in general since they can take posts all over. Playing armyboy does have its appeal, but I am trying to improve my civvie career too, after all.
Good to hear it wont mess with the job (technically)
>That would be Electronic Warfare Specialist (29E)
apparently the mos got switched to 17e, go figure

Robert is a mocking nickname for one middle aged guy named Zachary from East Peoria, Illinois who was kicked out of the Army during Obama's second term. He has spent the better part of 6 years venting chronic frustration about the US military and fabricating numerous fake stories about his life, including a fake wife, fake militia, and fake job. He has been burned out for years trying to "win" a one-sided flamewar against multiple anons that have disrespected or even bullied him for being a fag faggot with a sour grapes complex.
He reminds me of those threads on /tv/ trying to figure out the perfect comeback when Jonah Hill was utterly btfo'd on some French TV show. He keeps trying to find the magic combination of words to "win", but doesnt value his time enough to realize that the only real victory would be walking away.

Deleted my post so I could re-state it.
My projection for MEPS was cancelled but my recruiter is telling me to go anyway.
I googled if no showing is an option and the results say noshowing at MEPS is a "breach of professionalism" and can make it harder to enlist.
On the flip side when I googled if I should show up when my projection is cancelled, the results tell me not to go.
My recruiter got sick with the flu and I can't reach him to ask if I'm still going (I'm driving myself).
Are they going to correct the record between now and Monday or am I going to waste more time going there?

ETN1 shitass back at it. This is bad advice. Number 1: there’s a waiver for everything, including age. Also AFAIK the limit is 39. Conventional mechanics in aircraft carriers end up working with nukes, standing almost identical watches, same watch rotation, in the same spaces in the non-nuclear areas (main engines, shafts). They have a nuclear supervisor. Essentially
>all the downsides of being a nuke
>none of the benefits
If you qualify as a nuke mechanic versus a conventional, you’re leaving literally a minimum of $75k on the table to do the same job.

But you like doing research on anti-US military subjects every single day? Why are you unaware of a very well-known IMI unit? Is that because /pol/ never talks about it, so you weren't spoonfed talking points?

What is the point in sliding this thread? If I don't make a new one, you will do it (for free) instead. Either way, /meg/ stays online.

And what objective will you accomplish? You don't work in the industry and never will.

I'll never forget the time Robert insisted that it was a tranny that crashed that helicopter about a year or so ago. Then he insisted it was a black woman. He never acknowledged that he was wrong even after irrefutable evidence was released.

That's right. I'm sure not americans have died yet. and even if they have, to get to die as cannon fodder for israel's territorial expansion is surely a great honor. all goyim should aspire to die for such a good cause.
