-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.
>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-
Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.
Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Why are Japanese modelers like Savoryman, fullpla factory, crafta, plaban praising Nu gundam as masterpiece,
while Korean modelers like dalong, gundamholic and plasmith are vocal and unhappy about Nu gundam's waist and consider it as cursed object like Giant RG sinanju and Giant Tristan?
Why do Japanese modellers not give a shit about waist bend?

Does anyone have advice for smuggling plastic cement, paint, etc. through airplane security? Flammables are nominally forbidden but the TSA and co. are bums, or so I've heard.
>anon what the fuck
It's so goddamn expensive outside of Japan it's unreal. 2-10 times the price and I have to suffer the out of stock hell loop anyway. I beg you, this is so fucking bad.
>inb4 this post is read back to me as criminal evidence after I get pinched
>>
>>23766649
>It's so goddamn expensive outside of Japan it's unreal.
Eh? Mr Hobby or Tamiya plastic cement cost equivalent of 5€ per bottle. Better yet, Tamiya airbrush cleaner is basically the same as their extra thin cement so it's even cheaper solution. Paints likewise, it's not some ultra expensive stuff to buy, holy shit. 2-2.5€ per bottle.
>>
>>
>>
>>23766654
>€
How do you deal with not having any access to brands outside of Mr. Hobby and Tamiya? I see the kinds of paints that brands like Gaia and Jumpwind offer and just want to kms
Almost tempted to just give up on mecha and switch to mini painting because of it desu
>>
File: HCNnLn7aMAASjB1.jpg (519.5 KB)
519.5 KB JPG
The Japanese are built different.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>23766662
What if you need a color that Mr. Hobby and Tamiya don't sell
Or actual good quality metallics or pearl paints
Or clear colors that are actually clear and not semi opaque like Mr Color clears
Having only access to these two brands is unbelievably limiting
>>
>>
>>23766663
Western lacquers are just rebottled industrial paints, they will craze plastic unless sprayed in 5-6 ultra light coats, they can't be sprayed in wet coats at all and have very rough matte finishes so you need to drown them in gloss clear to get a workable surface
>acrylics
The better availability of acrylics and oils is kind of why I'm considering just switching hobbies to begin with
>>
>>
>>
>>23766670
>mixed
Depends, mixing muted/desaturated colors is easy, mixing something bright and vibrant is nearly impossible.
A simple reality of subtractive color mixing.
Mr Color's "pure pigment" CMY series helps there but even there they're behind Gaia since they have an equivalent line that's higher quality and with a wider variety of colors, as well as better fluorescent colors.
>never had an issue with the clears
Mr Color clear colors are pigment based while Gaia's are dye based, Mr Color switched to "clear" pigments for ease of use because dye based colors bleed easily if you aren't careful but they also lead to significantly reduced color depth since less of the undercoat shines through, and reduced contrast between shadow and highlight areas.

They focus almost entirely on detailing and it shows. The whole line is ancient at this point but since they were basically all made as models without any pretense of colour accuracy or looking good without having to do shit to them their molding and construction is really good and they can sit side by side with anything released today and still look fine.

Testing out how the palette looks, pretty happy with it so far. In term of using Vallejo primer there are small places where the paint gets scratched off which didn't happen as much when using Aqueous primer, but it's something that can be fixed pretty easily

I'm stupid and posted in the last thread but finished up the V2 as my 5th gunpla ever and I was really happy with it, bought some various grit sanding sticks because the first 2 kits I built were just snap shat out of box (unicorn NT-D and Nu, both HG), I really love the V2 so I also got the wings of light to add to the both of them, and building these have been really fun for me too as a newbie
>>
>>
I found a PG wing zero custom for cheap so I ordered an SH studio upgrade kit for it. Still looking at Wich waterslides to get, figure out some led solution and it needs a base. Probably end up spending pgu rx-78 money on the whole thing but with the resin parts it looks way better.

The wingtips resting on the ground are what's keeping it Standing upright if that is what you ar asking. But the joints are strong enough to do the spread out and folded modes, only it really needs a base for those. Overall it's a cool kit but not Perfect as per perfect grade, in both construction and looks. I wanted one for a long time tho so I might as well do it some justice and make it look pretty.

I was just confirming what they were. I knew it was an AB-7 and said as such. They are just different than AB 1/2 as it looks like you swap the inner tilting part at the end instead of putting a piece on top of the existing one.

As the other anon confirmed, they're parts for mounting other types of kits. For instance, those two curved pieces in the lower right are for gripping the kit by the hips in case it doesn't have any back or crotch holes to attach to, and several of those other pieces are for plugging into different types of holes for different types of kits.

Finally Done.
My 2nd time painting. very satisfied with the result. I've gotten quite used to thinning paint and airbrushing.
New things I learned is that I should've gloss coated after paint since painted surface is rough, very difficult to clean panel line mess and slide decals. It was extra tough as this chinese decals from 2016 is beyond dogshit, very difficult to separate from the sheet.
Also I should've bought C28 Steel instead of C339 Engine Gray for weapons and inner frame. Engine Gray is too light and looks too much like default grey runner.
My next project is still months away from arriving, so I'll snap build some chinese kino in the meantime.

Backpack looks cool and all but is way too heavy, making whole model harder to pose. Such is the fate of all those big-ass wing/booster accesories it seems, my Marchosias simply cannot hold straight posture but his wings are much heavier than that.
Gotta say that Vallejo "Mecha Color" varnish is quite good - unlike AK one I tried, this one barely changes saturation, which is good. I didn't attempt to test the durability, however.

I'm actually working on that gigantic Star Trek Enterprise model on his right in the intro. It is without a doubt the biggest piece of shit I've ever worked on. Sure. So far I've done the major assemblies, coated the inside with primer, a few coats of flat black, then a spatter coat of chrome for refraction. Lightly airbrushed the windows with a white frost from the inside for refraction. First round of sanding (those nacelles had seamlines the entire length (probably 15" or so) on two sides each, a nightmare. So damn much putty and sanding. Getting ready to install the light kit, then prime, sand again, then paint. No idea how many hours in.

Thanks anon, I really appreciate it. I'm not sure if I'll finish or not. I just opened the lighting kit and all of the labels are so old they just fell off all the wiring. It's just spaghetti and even though they stated it was made without having to solder, it is clearly made to solder. Solid wires to braids, no heatshrink anywhere, it's bad. Without labeling it's about impossible (2 circuit boards and there's no protection on the boards, they warn that any swapped wire or short will fry it in the instructions. This was a gift so I felt obligated to suffer through it, but I may just move on. Even with sunken cost it doesn't feel worth it. I have a huge backlog of things I actually want to build/paint. I've heard polar lights has improved since they became 'Round 2' but this is a 15year old kit that was old tech when it was "new". Avoid.
>>
>>23768584
>>23768605
The paint may adhere to it, but paint may look different depending on the base. If it's already a dark color it may look darker with no primer or a lighter base coat. It sucks but you have to be patient and just wait for stuff to dry. It's one of the first and best lessons you'll learn while building. Usually the longer you take with a piece the better it turns out. But waiting never gets easier.

They're a lot shakier than they would care to admit. Every pre-order I've bought from them has ended up delayed, but they have always honored every single one. If you're just going to buy kits to add to a box fort, then it isn't a big deal, but if it's something that you want to build ASAP then it might be worth trying to find elsewhere.
In your case, the MG Alex 2.0 should get stocked at Hobby Lobby every now and then. It's part of the same "batch" as MG F91 2.0 in that they get a shipment every other month or so and it gets snapped up quickly, so it may be in your best interest to find an assistant manager there and ask what day their restocks come in so that you have a better chance of snagging one.

>fix the section where the paint got pulled off
>remove the masking on the areas surrounding it
>paint peeled off there
I literally don't know what the fuck happened to the parts while I had it stored away last month when I worked on my Schwarzette. Pretty sure I had these washed with dishwashing detergent and thoroughly rinsed so what the fuck contaminated my plastic surface?

I was doing some casting on some of the P-Bandai builders parts so I could duplicate a weapon prior to actually starting the build, butmy dog died last week and I'm too distraught to sad the project so I'm sitting this build out.

Bitches don't care about my beam magnum, but /gpg/ does. Just need to take some pictures, but I wasn't going for something high-effort so it shouldn't be a surprise I'm done a bit early.

I hope they'll go directly to Heavyarms EW after this.
In fact, they shouldn't have started with this in the first place. Nobody cares about Sandrock.

It's too cold to fucking spray and I'm struggling to do the customizations I want. I don't think I'll make the deadline but since its my first full custom and I've wanted to make it for years I'm still gonna finish it and post it here

Been for a while. There's Noel plamo from either koto or goodsmile iirc
So what can we expect from this aside from a couple of song covers? HG Xi or GQuux gundam in Suisei colors and a bunch of acrylic stands with vtubers dressed as GQuux characters?

This guy screams AC 4/FA style, I love it so much. Also, funny how the "third faction" from 30MM lore always have most diverse machines and at that, whole different than other two. Earth Alliance and Bylon (Bailon?) forces are much more grounded up while Maxion have literal 18m tall robo-waifus, samurai larpers next riot gear soldiers and robo-horses.

Hand built ABS joint can handle thicc sword. Sadly Bandai doesn't use ABS for 1/144 kits and RG's premade ABS frame is just dogwater.

why didnt anyone tell me that theres already bootlegs of Koto Rockman kits?
>>

They have no more parts or really anything very unusual compared to any contemporary kits
The only thing they really have is waterslides and being personally designed by Katoki (which means sometimes unique engineering/construction but nothing insane) and usually being entirely new molds.

The Crossbones aren't that great at all and I wouldn't recommend them, probably the only ones. The 78-2 ver KA is old but it was fine for its time. The Crossbones weren't very great even on release.
The V is fiddly and kinda weak but at least it's for a good reason.

The original Red Sinanju had really bad hip pegs that broke all the time, but that was an issue of the material used. The OVA Red Sinanju uses the exact same molds but with stronger material so that issue is gone.
The original Unicorn had the worst knees of any MG kit to exist, like I'm pretty sure that even the original 1995 MG Gundam had better motion range in its legs. It also had almost zero hip range due to the rear skirt armor literally cockblocking the torso twist, and no molded vulcans. All of these were fixed in the OVA Unicorn, and the knee fixes were eventually back-patched to all Unicorn-type kits, but the original Unicorn, and all Banshee and Phenex kits, still suffer from the rear skirt armor and vulcan issues.
The Victories have a wide range of issues, and just like any transforming kit you want to keep it in one mode and never change it. Most people are willing to forgive these though since it's a Late UC transforming kit, which makes it an engineering nightmare, they did the best they could with what they had at the time.
Zoltan's White Sinanju from 2019 isn't "technically" a Katoki kit by label, but he was still responsible for the engineering of the Red Sinanju and the original White Sinanju, so I would say that it counts. Engineering-wise it's not bad, but it does have a bunch of unforced errors such as lack of color-colded Sleeves parts (it's a fucking MG kit, why are we still using stickers for it) and no Zoltan figurine. All of this was fixed for the 2024 White Sinanju kit, so this was more of an example of Bandai forcing us to buy an entirely new kit to fix what they fucked up.
