-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.
>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

>Idol theme
Make an idol themed model, something that could be an idols personal ride
> mech x historical
Combine your build with a historical scale kit of some sort
>walking battleship
Go for the Battletech feel and make a build that functions like a battleship, pre dreadnought or dreadnought. Lots of big guns, heavy armour, etc. It's place is on the centre of the line of battle
>>

>walking battleship
Fuck yeah, big fat fucks taken to the next level. I actually had this thought a year or two ago, that in the next AU inspired by 0079, the Guntank should be an impregnable mobile fortress that could shield the Gundam and Guncannon from incoming enemy fire and mount cannons powerful enough to threaten enemy ships, as opposed to just a mobile artillery platform with slightly bigger guns than the Guncannon. Be a tank to mobile suits as a regular tank would be to humans.

Is "Transforming" a theme that's been done before?
Take a non-transforming kit, and turn it into a build that is able to transform into some other mode. Be it a waverider or mobile armor, multiple part general-purpose transformations like ZZ or Victory, a land vehicle like Skells, a seafaring vessel, a mech that hunkers down into a large artillery platform, maybe even one that breaks into weapons for other mechs to use.
I think it'd be fun to see anons bullshit alternate modes out of kits that weren't made to transform

I want to hunt down a HZII Rah on the aftermarket but at this point I'm worried that EW will announce a bootleg as soon as I buy it.
Normally wouldn't be an issue, but there's a chance they will include gimmicks that Bandai skipped over like functioning shoulder weapon pods. Their TR-6, for instance, included a longer TR-1 style CSB blade and a ReBoot variant of the blade. That wasn't a big deal because I need a myriad of Woundworts for my collection, but one HZII Rah is enough.

I just screwed up my Zaku 2 by not waiting. I put it together before applying top coat after the paint had cured (48 hours). So does tamiya fine surface primer have a bad rep? I used it for the first time because my shop was out of Mr surfacer. This stuff seems to actively repel paint (ironically tamiya paint). Shit chips and scratches if you look at it sideways. Never had this problem with any other primer, it seems worse than just not using it at all.

Yeah, real sweet of her to get me this. Wierd/fun thing is, when I was 12 I would go 'whoa cool model boat' and just slap it together I can and could paint within the lines but I'd paint it with matte and gloss paint whichever I had in the color needed, never heard of primer or panel liner or a wash and just had fun with it. Now I feel intimidated because I am a grown up modeller and supposed to know better. Regardless, this will be a cool build. Maybe I will post pics but I need the right mindset to start something like this and see it trough so please subscribe to my plamo blog in /gpg to see when I do.

Requesting past theme again:
>Remote weapon
Build kits that use remote weapon, be it bits, funnel, remote control drone or other
>Weapon or support
Build machine that is either a weapon for a mecha or something like mobile armor to support it
> transformation
The entry has transformation gimmick. Any kind of transformation is fine, and entrant may use transformable kits as a base.
Example of transformation include: mecha to vehicle(zeta), armor shredding or casting off(Gundam Alex, Kabuto), armor change(Core gundam).
I do am not sure if change of backpack, and maybe shoulder equipment in case like Strike or G-self should count
>Plastic utensil
Create entry themed around plastic utensil such as spoon, fork and knife, either being the weapon armor or other tools.
Other request
Separating Duo from squad into two different theme again where:
>Duo
may be configured into Personal Army/Team where the participant submit multiple entry as a theme
>Squad
Decide a theme and color for a squad, where the participant build their entry to fit into the said squad.
new(?) theme:
>Desktop warfare
the entry use desktop tool and utensil as a main weapon to wage war against other.
>Precision Assault
Build a entry designed around destroying a specific target, yet minimize the damage to surrounding
If there are any more theme I find interesting, I will try suggesting more later, tell me what you guys thing about it.
On a side note, I think we should make a list for a locked theme that has been used, but wasn't old enough to be available again, lest someone accidentally suggested it again
>>23807543
>>23807570
I was one of the anon to suggest the transformation theme, and as anon said, people seem to have avoid it due to difficulties involved, I decided to expand it and make it much more easier to do and hoping that other anon will feel creative enough

Yes, the expansion parts only are molded in white, but the all-in-one Nu HWS is molded in dirty white/light beige and has the psycoframe parts in blue instead of green
also, it doesnt include the fin funnel shooting parts, you need to buy the extra fin funnel part for that

>>23808137
Noted
>>
>>
>>23808141
you also have nubs that you have to scratch the shit out of the paint if you want to get fully removed, let alone any seam lines you want to get rid of. When I did it I was afraid I would lose track of which piece is what. I'm currently working on a tank model that has a bunch of near identical track sections with nothing to hold on to anyway so I left them attached at one point only to a bit of runner with the numbers on them.
>>23808142
definitely recommend airbrush for white. Canned spray paint is hard to recommend as you have little control on how thick it's going on.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>23808178
These are always the weird copes that people without experience try to sell. If you are so clumsy you're worried about dropping a piece and ruining it while painting (rather than spending $5 on a set of alligator clip rods and stand to hold your pieces while painting and drying, then you probably shouldn't be painting. You're going to find lots of ways to make mistakes and make yourself miserable. There's a reason this hobby is as much collecting tools as it is about bricks for kit walls. The ones that get used by lots of people exist for a reason. Use the experience of those that have done it millions of times to save yourself trouble. We all sucked at some point.

Cool. As for what to cover up the stomach area, one idea I had was to try and mimic a sarashi, like you see on some anime characters. It's a kind of thing that would indicate it's a fighter, if that's your vision for the build. You could mimic it with something like paper tape or cloth strips.

I encountered a problem with panel lining a painted gunpla
I've been trying to use pour-type water-based panel liner, but it's so difficult to clean since it's too easy for the liquid to get erased. So, I decided to just switch to the old way, by using a Gundam Marker, I tried to clean the mess with water, but it didn't get erased. I found out that Gundam Marker is oil based. So, I tried to erase it with Isopropyl 99% rubbing alcohol, which usually worked great, but when I tried to erase mistakes, it erased the paint (the lacquer paint + gloss coat) as well.
What's the appropriate way/liquid to erase Gundam Maker on a lacquer painted gunpla? enamel thinner? rubbing alcohol below 99%?

any that's petroleum based, but zippo is the most common and well known brand.
like >>23808953 said this damage only happens if you let it pool or let it get between parts on bare plastic. on painted parts this won't happen, just don't assemble before panel lining so that it doesn't get trapped between parts where there's no paint. it happens because enamel and oil paints (and their thinners) are petroleum-based, and plastic is also petroleum based, so it weakens the structure of the plastic

meh, lacquer really is overrated. they have reputation of this super strong kind of paint, but it gets dissolved easily with just some accidental rubbing.
I just did a quick google and there we go, lacquer paint DEFEATED ONCE AGAIN, but enamel thinner this time.

1. Gloss coat the piece
2. Make an enamel panel wash, It's either 5:1 or 10:1 enamel paint to mineral spirits
3. Apply panel wash to panel lines via capillary effect
4. Clean up using mineral spirits after panel wash has dried
In an "ideal" situation you would also pre-scribe the pieces prior to painting, since you'll get a bit of detail loss from the paint layer itself. That helps the panel lines to stand out a bit better.

because SMP is unironically bad. There are some at reasonable prices, but then you go look at Super Sentai kits who have fuckton of stickers and minimal details for ridiculous prices and if they're a combiner (which they are most of the time), they will come at separate boxes. For all that hassle, all you get are sticker heavy kits that are worse than Moderoids and priced more than an MG because Toei Entertainment wants a cut from their IP too

You have terrible taste. 1/100 means 1/100 and the chinks need to just label things 1/87 if that is what they are going to scale them as.

After bringing up so many times about the whole Gundam 00 Second Season stuff, I think it's easy to see what LED Unit could work for the Seraphim, and it's this:
https://bandai-hobby.net/item/01_2771/
The blue LED would be used for Face Burst Mode, and the red would be for Trial System. Because of how small the Seraphim naturally is compared to most Master Grades, it needs a smaller LED unit for its combo GN Drive and eye glow.

it's not that bad, the paint application is good with some nice blending and depth of colour, it's just poorly lit and that crest on the chest is misaligned. maybe the weathering is out of scale too but these are all very common issues.
the main problem with 40k modellers is they're used to a certain scale and all the techniques that apply to that scale, plus when you're painting minis you use highlights to exaggerate and that really fucks with scale perception. an HG is like 3x smaller scale than a standard tabletop figure, so they need to do everything 3x smaller or else it just looks like powerarmor

Lol wut? People shade their scale models because things can look very bland under natural lighting. The sense of scale is dictated by real world implication, you put your HG next to a 1/20 human fig and it will look like a guy in power armor no matter what kind of paint technique you used.

Gundam markers are alcohol based paint. Lacquer reactivates from alcohol. Lacquer paints never actually cure, and can always be reactivated because of their chemical makeup.

In all honesty I was waiting on the next thread to open up to post results, but if you guys want to see the results now I can post them if y'all want.

As 6, I wouldn't say I got the short end of the stick, as I never expected to get votes. I was just wanting to do a custom paint job for the first time as practice picking out colors that work together as that is something I've always been terrible at. Actually having a deadline got me to actually do it.

Who cares, so long as people are posting their actual work? If they built something I see no problem with showing it off to different places. It's only a problem when someone else drags something else here that doesn't belong to them.

I'm like you, I use groupbuilds as an excuse to get out of my comfort zone more than anything. each of my entries has been trying something new, from babby's first kitbash to rigging LEDs and dioramas. I think the most important thing out of it all is personal growth.

That's only a worry if you've done something retarded enough to incentivize someone else to do it. The last time it happened here was because the poster in question was such a virulent detriment to the thread that most people wanted him gone.
