-=READ THE GUIDES=-
Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!
For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!
For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!
And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.
>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

This is the new kit compressor from gaalheri. It comes with a gahd 39. I don't have an airbrush rn so I'm kinda interested in it mostly because they claim it's not noisy at all and just a bit bigger than a smartphone. However by their own admission the maximum pressure reachable with this combo (0.35 nozzle) is lower than 13 psi. Seems a bit low to me, then again it's extremely cheap so I want ur input on this. Would this compressor be OK considering that it also has no tank( kinda necessary considering its dimensions)?

Not that anon, I have been looking to get an air compressor, but I'm not sure what to get. Should I shell out for tank compressor (though I move countries once again in a few years), or try to get a portable compressor that can hit about 30 psi max for Plamo?

This MG gray zeta is the bootleg so all the stripes are different for some reason. Not sure why they felt the need to change them so much.

I mean, they had balls for trying. Sometimes you never know if you'll accidentally strike gold with a franchise, kids can like really stupid shit for absolutely zero reason (e.g. Six Seven). Look at how shit like Angry Birds took off.
As for Meta-style knockoffs, that's a ride that everybody fell for, not just Bandai. Even Zuckerburg lost $80 billion on his own bet after literally changing his company name for it, and he was also theoretically the one who would gain the most from it too. And hey, at least we got a sweet Psyco Gundam Mk. II out of it.

Yes, it has been confirmed that beautiful matte plastic is KPS on the GQuuuux, Red Gundam and very likely the Gelgoog as well. Probably part of Light Cannon, while Zaku and Rick Dom may have some elements. Not sure about the Gyan as I don't own that mould.
>Kurihara: The PS (polystyrene foam) material we usually use for the exterior comes in a wide variety of colors, but it's a hard material that wears down quickly, so it's not suitable for movable joints. That's why we usually use PS and KPS for the exterior and joints respectively. But this time, the semi-monocoque structure is both the exterior and the frame, so we decided to use KPS for the entire body. We've used KPS for the skin of our bishoujo plastic models before. The matte finish of KPS is more suitable for human skin than the glossy plastic texture, so we used it to differentiate textures, but we ended up thinking that it would be good to use for robots as well. By the way, the red Gundam that has been announced as part of the lineup is also molded almost entirely from KPS.

you're clearly blasting the part on full flow until it turns the colour you want which is how I imagine a chimp or perhaps an orangutan would approach this hobby.
do multiple thin coats. there's flow control on an airbrush for a reason and you should never be pulling further than halfway for hobby painting.

If I were spraying one thick coat, it would be even worse.
One thin coat pools, drips, and still shows primer and two thin coats gigarapes the detail so it's no good.

Perhaps you're holding the can too close? And you've got to do like quick passing spray. I use spray cans as well. You got to do a bit of trial and error to get a sense of the distance plus speed/ exposure/ how fast or deeply you press the spray. I typical do like a light 'tap' and as said, one swift motion from a distance, so as to get as light a coat as possible.

These group builds aren't about winning or losing, it's about getting your creative juices flowing. If they were about who won you'd see a lot more people complaining about how there's a bunch of repeat winners (Myself included). It's about making something silly for the hell of it, like a Grimace Zock or a Slavic Gundam Fighter or a Turn A painted as the main character from YIIK. As long as you had fun building and painting your entry at the end of the day, you're a real winner.

Seed Freedom HGs and GQX HGs represent a shift in quality. They last standard change was 2015 HG RX-78 Revive and Zeta Gundam.
I am lt sure of there were any turning points for HGs.was Narrative and Zeta Gundam Ver Ka different from everything that came before it? How about Gundam Vidar? Wing Zero doesn't count as it uses some ABS joints to compensate for its shorter height(like the F90).

New HGs are getting close to early Robot Robot Damashiis.
Obviously, KPS isn't as durable as POM for wear and tear, but being almost full KPS in the GQX line does represent that they are able to make a light weight action kit adequately. I am aware that Siegaxe, GFred and Gelgoog GQ loosen faster than the Light Cannon and Zaku GQ as the former has more KPS.
I don't think other HG lines follow the same HG standard as GQX, Gundam Unit 7 and Gundam Zilius most likely follows Seed Freedom plastic recipe. Heard that the G Witch line was also a turning point in terms of plastic finish and durability, but succeeded by Seed Freedom.
GQX was clearly trying to do something ambitious with their semi-monocoque structures.

Technically all of standard PS in Bandai's kits has been replaced by KPS ever since the release of MG Sinanju ver OVA. I haven't build that much modern HGUC to tell but, the real shift could have happened after Build Divers.
>>
>>
>>
>>23812564
All of modern HG are molded in KPS, however the KPS's tolerance has more to do with the color mixture. GQ Zaku, Red Gundam and Light Cannon uses dark grey for their joints while Gqux, HFred and GMgoog uses colored plastic for the joints. Dark grey and light purple are more popular choices for the innerframe and joints compares to other colors because the mixture doesn't compromise the durability of the plastic. You have heard of the infamous gold plastic, right? Yeah well it extends to alot others too, such as white plastic.

This post is from Bandai themselves, by the way. Anyone identify this version of Wing Zero EW? Whether it's the Real Grade, the first Master Grade, or heaven forbid, the Fighting Action kit.Or they're jumping straight to the HGAC Wing Zero EW after just making the Sandrock Custom EW.

Figured as much. The design feels simple and pleasing to the eye after a bit of extra work put into it, and it's not as mold line heavy as the larger and more expensive counterparts, which is why the Fighting Action kits sounds plausible.

Understandable... until they decide to make a 1.5 version of sorts with the transformation gimmicks from the Wing EW restored and baked on top of the base version, including shield and Drei Zwergs. The backpack would have its internal structure changed to add the shifting hinge, and will have a connector for the shield to plug into, and all that's left is readjusting the buster rifles to attach to the front to complete the Neo Bird Mode (Glory of Losers ver.). I mean, the Wing EW and Wing Zero EW share structural notes that can give it the transformation mechanics between the RG and MG, so why not do it again with the RG?
>>
>>23812848
It's not necessarily out of the question though. RG Destiny was a 2013 kit, while HGCE Destiny Revive was 2019. RG Freedom came out in 2011, while HGCE Freedom Revive came out in 2015. And so on and so forth. RG Wing Zero Custom is a 2014 kit, so there's a bigger time game here than the previous examples, on top of the pre-existing HG kit being from an extremely old line from before the turn of the century.
>>
>>23812856
The thing is, Seed has special care and love from Bandai. It does not apply to every other Gundam media. You would think they were gonna make revive HG for CCA and a large chunk of Zeta MS, but no, they got nothing.
>>
>>23812868
The CCA HGs are quite good though and their RGs came along late enough into the line they've got pretty much no problems. They still made EG Nu very early on which is basically just a new HG anyways. I wouldn't think they'd remake most of Zeta stuff no. Zeta badguys aren't major kit sellers. Wing has as much special love from Bandai as anything does frankly.
>>
>>
>>23812874
Wing is in That situation where Bandai loves the protagonist the most and put almost every other guys into Pbandai.
>HG CCA are quite good
You can say the same about most of those old Seed HGs. CCA kits are almost 20 years old at this point and the way they belong to the hollow polycaps era does not help. I would kill for a Geara Doga HG made with the current quality standard.
>>
>>
>>23812886
>old SEED HGs
I mean no, the old 1/144 SEED line is way worse than the HG CCA kits. If you have such a problem with the HG CCA kits I think you're a bit of a baby.
>P-Bandai
also made the HGs not p-bandai in the market most interested in them, and frankly has nothing to do with anything at all really, especially since all this is about the chance of an HG WZC really.

>sad to see nobody really cares about them
There is a literall concept art collection + yearly Pbandai release dedicated to Zeta era's test units. Alot of people care in fact, but Bandai would rather make Zeta Gundam kit for the 30th times rather than its enemies.
>>
>>23812890
Advance of Zeta isn't Zeta, Advance of Zeta is an ongoing property and most of the designs released for it are the entirely original designs with nearly nothing to do with any Zeta machine. Very few people give a fuck about prototype asshimar. I'm sure an advanced marasai and hizack might sell too, but in reality both of those are also so far removed from their base suits they are just their own thing.
>>
>>
>>23812889
They are the same shit from that time period. How could SEED get a bunch of slop trash to be remade but not CCA? Isn't this movie one of Bandai's darling?
>You are a baby if you have problem with CCA HG
You are a baby if you have problem with old Seed HGs.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>23812903
>they came out several years after SEED HGs and are better made than all of them.
I wouldn't call 2005 to 2008 to be that big of a leap. I built those old and busted early 2000s HG, i know what to expect and CCA HGs are just the same outdated products as Seed HGs. The fact that Seed got a bunch of renewals yet CCA got nothing infurates me.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>23812886
There are 3D printed resin polycap replacements on the market, but it is a hit or miss as it may not work well with the tolerances of individual kits.
>>
>>23812868
>Seed has special care and love from Bandai
And so does Wing. Admittedly not to the same degree as Seed and Unicorn, but it definitely gets more than its fair share of love when it comes to kit releases. Hell, the fact that Wing Zero Custom came in 2nd on the worldwide Gundam vote tells Bandai that that there's still more money to be made capitalizing on Wing.

>>
>>
>>23813014
It is beyond that you stupid motherfucker, it spans before Zeta to well after and the bulk of the story is about how super fucking special the Inle is and now the entire story is about that and the Martian Zeon wars. Flag and Wings are set during Zeta, but that's not the whole of AoZ anymore and hasn't been for fucking years and years now. Even from day 1 to now, the bulk of AoZ's focus is on Hazels and OC equipment for them and then the Woundwort and their trials in building it and how insanely special those designs are. Yep, there are some Zeta prototypes. There's also actually not that many, and they don't actually expand on various Zeta designs much, either, though there are some. But at this point there are flat out more Neo Zeon MS successors and variants than Titans, with half the Titans shit just winding up as variants or inspired loadouts for Hazel or Woundwort, and another small chunk of variants of things just being the original designs with Fujioka's Hrududus stapled to them. The Zeta in Advance of Zeta is very small.
>>23813016

correct, it's not zeta and has very little to ultimately do with zeta overall, not my fault you're too stupid to get it but maybe if you looked at what model kits anyone actually owns from AoZ or wants from AoZ and used your braincells you'd get that the appeal is entirely in things that are not zeta designs and the bulk of everything has very little to do with any design from Zeta at all
>>
>>23813068
>realize the majority of the story isn't actually about
The story is just whatever the fuck, it has femboy and lolis, who gives a shit. AOZ's main content is the MSV stuff and most of them are strictly Zeta - Double Zeta era MS. You don't see fucking Denan Gei or Contio in AOZ for obvious reason.

Thanks for all your efforts!
The mascot for Maenead is done!
I would like to apologize for the delay, I ended up getting pretty busy toward the end of the groupbuild.
I hope that it is to your liking.
I took the liberty to make the eye red because I had issue determining Maenads' eye color for the picture, so if there anything you would like me to adjust, please tell me
Also, I am not planning to open up for the request until the next thread. However, in this case I am considering letting the participant choose between either receiving a mascot or having me draw a bust portrait of their entry pilot once the next thread started.
A full color request is reserved for Burst Hail as the winner of this group build, with at least two more for other participant. The remaining slot will be for the sketch of their request.
That said, if anon wish so, I might start taking request early. If next thread started and I didn't open up my request, you can make request to this post.

Yeah the white paint didn't go so well, it's called corax white or something like that and it's from a Warhammer paint set that I got as a gift. I literally used paint thinner but it just made it less sticky to the plastic so I ended up globbing it on with the brush either way. I think it's suppose to be detail paint. I'm kinda more interested in what people think about the parts I added.
>>
>>
>>
>>23814393
I like it. You might want to invest in some primer. It will help properly thinned paints stick better. Vallejo primers are pretty good. Add 10% retarder and thin it out and it'll dry perfectly flat every time. Then you have a perfect surface for painting.

>>
>>

Alright so first and foremost
>I literally used paint thinner but it just made it less sticky to the plastic so I ended up globbing it on with the brush either way.
Warhammer paints are acrylic, you can thin the paint by just using water. You want to use paint thinner with enamels and oil paints. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and assume the other paints are Abbadon Black and Balthasar Gold?
>I think it's suppose to be detail paint.
I mean you can use it for detail painting, I use Citadel stuff when doing small detail work on my stuff too. You can definitely use Citadel stuff for full paintjobs if you thin it down properly.
> I'm kinda more interested in what people think about the parts I added.
It's pretty nice, the Jegan backpack is a favorite of mine. The Gunpods from that one Build Divers kit works well with the kit.
>>
>>
>>23814393
See, the problem here is that tabletop miniatures and Gunpla kits use entirely different types of paints, not to mention entirely different techniques. That paint you used was probably acrylic, which is usually thinned using water and is meant to be applied in multiple thin layers. The problem here is that Gunpla has lots of wide, smooth and flat surfaces where even the tiniest imperfection is immediately obvious, which is why airbrush painting is highly recommended. Enamels and lacquers work far better since they dry significantly faster and are a lot harder to scratch/damage before sealing with top coat.
All that being said, you had a great idea, and overall the concept looks pretty well put together. Your color scheme is excellent, and the custom parts match up well with the body. It's just that the type of paint does not work in this case, and slathering it on like that looks pretty bad. It's very well done as your first custom though, and if you have the time and patience I would suggest you strip it down and repaint it with the proper paint type and technique. Do that, and you could end up with something I would definitely vote for in a groupbuild.

Minor correction, but enamels cure slower than water acrylics and need to cure before you clear coat them. That's why boomers got into the habit of a week between coats as Testors dries slow even for enamels.

>Enamels and lacquers work far better since they dry significantly faster
Both dry SLOWER than acrylics, which dry to the touch within 30 seconds. Lacquers usually take around 15 minutes and enamels can take DAYS.

White paint is a bitch. I'd recommend building it up in thin layers, starting from a neutral gray, than a lighter one, and then your white or off-white. If you go for an off-white paint like this one, it'll still look like a white because it's surrounded by darker colors. Yellow is similar that way (I'd start with a red or orange and then brighten it up).

>The problem here is that Gunpla has lots of wide, smooth and flat surfaces where even the tiniest imperfection is immediately obvious
This also comes down to the brush you use. A wide, flat brush is great for Gunpla and similar kits.

If you're painting with lacquers they'll be dry almost instantly in such a hell temperature. You can safely lightly touch the part after a few minutes but you still have to let the paint cure for a few hours before doing more work on them

Do you people seriously wait 24 hrs to spray paint after priming? You can start spraying your base color on after the primer has dried in little as a few minutes. You just have to wait overnight at least before doing a top coat. Of course this is if you are using Mr Color or Gaianotes.
>>
>>23814721
>Of course this is if you are using Mr Color or Gaianotes.
You answered your own question. Other primers require that 24h or similar. Or at least they are recommended as some people paint as soon as their primer seems dry. But if you are about to spend next few days painting single kit, would you rather prefer to take your chances or ensure that everything will go smoothly? Also remember that primer is just as important if not more for paint protection as varnish - if your paint layer adhere poorly to surface, no amount of protective layer over it will help you out. This is why people often use lacquer primers even with acrylics and why painting on metal miniatures can be so problematic.

So you guys that paint. If I'm using tamiya paint (it's acrylic I guess, like X-2). I put a top coat of mr. super clear gloss so I can do panel lining but trying to get the panel lines off (tamiya bottle panel liner) seems like it's taking off the top coat (and paint beneath). So I'm guessing mr super clear is lacquer and probably shouldn't have been used. If you are using acrylics what gloss coat and panel liners do you use?

Mr Super Clear is indeed lacquer but it shouldn't behave like that. Tamiya panel liner is enamel based and their thinner shouldn't reactivate lacquers, it can reactivate acrylics however. There is also a question about how do you remove the excess - airbrushed layers are rather thin and can peel off with too much force applied, like some cotton tip rubbing. You didn't mention if you waited day or two for clear layer to cure (yes, I heard about that whole "lacquers don't cure" but you still need everything to settle down).
>what you use
Personally I thin actual oil paints with white spirit and apply like that, sometimes over entire parts. White spirit shouldn't reactivate acrylic paints either (water or alcohol based) and is generally less aggressive towards plastic than Tamiya enamel thinner but I still occasionally rip some thin layers of paint. Exhibit A aka pic related, holes on cloak (battle damage for the poor). Technically I should apply varnish layer before but I'm lazy bum and would rather fix that with brush later.

>You didn't mention if you waited day or two for clear layer to cure
Yeah each layer was 48+ hours between. Tamiya acrylic, 48 hours, mr super clear gloss, 72h, then tried panel lining with the tamiya bottle liner (black). Then I just noticed that the bottle I was trying to remove panel liner with... was tamiya lacquer thinner (flesh colored cap). Welp I think there's my problem. Guess I should go get some lighter fluid.

The F90IIIY is not a base F90. It's also not Unit 3 of the F90d either iirc. If I've been following Cluster correctly it's actually newer than the F91 as it's just showing up towards the end of the wae, yet the F91 has been deployed since the start.
The constant time skips make it hard to grasp the order to things.

I think a lot of entries might wind up happening,
but at tops 1-2 will actually be comedic while the other will attempt to be funny but just fall flat and be cringe.
a shitpost entry is novel because it is the sole shitpost in a themed build. when the theme is shitposting, the novelty is lost. the average person in this thread can't tie their shoes and can barely go five minutes without moistening their shirts with drool. comedy takes at least 2-3 more braincells than they are able to spare.

All the adapter bits done. The normal F90 backpack was a surprise since it had parts on one of the F90IIIY runners. The F90 rifle wasn't on the list though. All of its parts besides the lense were on the shared F runner, so I put it together then trimmed a bit of the flourencent runner to make a camera lens really happy with it as I managed to get it nicely pressure fit in like it would be from the factory instead of needing glue.

Then that's an easier answer, they throw it into the trash, box it up forever (where it'll eventually get tossed out as trash), or give it away to small hobby shops to act as display pieces. There's no actual value in built kits unless someone is explicitly paid to build and paint it to put on the display shelf of a hobby shop.
