Yea, in the modern west if you were to be as intimate and quirky with same-sex friends as the M6 are with each other, you'd be quickly labeled a queer, even if you weren't one.
Take the first film recording with sound as an example. In saner times they'd be assumed to be just two friends being merry with each other, maybe had a few drinks, celebrating good news, mocking the street musician, etc. Homosexual accusations were a big deal, and nobody made them flippantly unless you were that person's enemy. Now look at the comments of where people's mind go to with it.

theres just not enough male characters that actually have a personality and appear enough. they also tend to look kinda boring unless its a villain. i would love to have some favorite ship but theres just nothing to work with except stuff like discord x fluttershy. having like 1-2 episodes that feature a kinda boring male character really doesnt count either. cheese is literally just a clone of pinkie which is so lame. i like what zephyr could have turned into but we dont get to see it. most people just dislike spike. it sucks so much but if you want straight ships with canon characters youd probably have to use the rule 63 versions of the main cast.. many times it just feels like an oc cause youre just inventing a whole character personality and background story for a design.

lol at how they tried to add a bigger male role like flash sentry but then even he stopped existing cause they just dropped him instead of developing his personality. i was so hyped to see hitch in g5 and then he was just lame to me so now im convinced they just have no idea how to make an appealing male character on purpose.
