I finally understand the power of 10 band EQ
>>
>>
>>129556091
you think so? sounds really chunky to me, with very little high-end, overdriven/distorted mids and clear lows.
I'm mostly wondering what kind of overdrive/distortion the bassist might have been using.
is it just the tubes going hard?
>>
>>
>>129556139
>definitely a pushed amp, compressors usually have a built in boost so it should be enough.
That's pretty sick. I'm coming from a symphonic/concert band background, so rawdogging the amp so hard that it modulates the tone is new to me.

I bought a few novelty picks made from bull horn scraps. The sides are totally flat rough and unfinished, so they make tons of dust and wear down in a few minutes. But they catch the string quicker than any pick I have and are super accurate to use. I want more but they're expensive and they self destruct instantly
>>
>>
>>
>>
The Nick Johnston signature in HSS has the brightest pickups I have ever heard. I've been playing guitar for 20 years and I've only turned the tone knob a few times, for novelty and shit. Since I've gotten the NJ one, my tone knob is constantly at 30%. I don't like it.
Every time I use it, it feels "wrong". I have the feeling that it's doing more than just a low-pass. Sometimes I also think that the pickups are just broken somehow. I can't believe that I'm going to swap the pickups for some of the same type.

today was a sobering experience.
I've been learning guitar for a few months now and I thought I wanted a telecaster, in addidtion to the j masics JM I already have.
it's true, the player ii tele feels better to me, and I know from all the A-B comparisons that I like and want the tele sound.
but in my hands it all sounds the same
I knew that I need to git gud before a better guitar isn't wasted on me.
I didn't want to leave empty handed, so I bought the NuX Dual Loop Stereo, because I thought a looper is a good addition to my katana.
then, at home, I got ratio'd by the looper.
to stop the recording at the right time and to stay perfectly on beat is harder than I thought.
on the bright side: I eventually did get the hang of it and played a fun little blues with my bass and two guitar layers.
all in all a tough but necessary learning experience, I guess

it be do like that. Record yourself next, not as an exercise in narcissism but to critique and benchmark your playing. It's cringy to listen to now but if you were doing your homework you're gonna sound much better every 6 months or so depending on where you are and what you're practicing.
>>

>to stop the recording at the right time and to stay perfectly on beat is harder than I thought.
Is it one of those loopers which instantly starts playing back once you hit stop or does it keep count of the bars and you can press it before?
Either way, that's why I prefer going full blown DAW and jamming and looping with Ableton Live. I can insert drum loops, play them myself, jam with synths, keyboards pianos and play my guitar, without worrying about timing.

yes, I tried them clean, with headphones on. they had a fender tone master pedal there to use, but another guy used it the entire time I was there, which was a good two hours.
>>129557417
I only had an hour to play around with it, so I by no means know all the ins and outs of what the looper can do, but I think you can set it up to do a count in before it starts recording
>>
>>
>>129555883
i thought that sounded like a Gibson EB3 and after doing some digging, it is. Those have the varitone/fuzztone circuits. amp really isnt that important, but you're gonna need a Gibson SG bass if you want that tone, nothing else sounds like them. That's a lot of neck pickup, with some fuzz and a very loud amp.

I haven’t played any shows since around 2022-2023 but I got invited to fill in on acoustic for two sets tomorrow because the guy who sings and plays guitar had surgery on his elbow and can’t play. He’s friend of a friend and I was suggested to fill in, I’m excited to be back on stage but also nervous because I have today to practice and that’s it

>>129557841
Lol I think I read somewhere that fender used that excuse which is absolutely retarded. As if buckers, hot rails and six saddles bridges are "trad" on a tele. So fucking stupid. They could make the guitar so much more comfortable to play but noooo. Lazy fuckers.

>>129557837
heres another example of a modern sg bass into a marshall superlead bass amp sim with some fuzz. notice how this one sounders smoother and less harsh that the monks version although similar. this is why you need fuzz, because what is causing this to sound so smooth and thick (not harsh and defined like the monks) is the natural compression coming from the distortion of the amp.

I know I’ve only had it for three days but I genuinely think my new Rickenbacker has taken the number two slot after one of my Teles. It’s made its way above my LP Special which was my previous number two. I love how it sounds. I guess I just have a thing for simple slab body hard tail guitar with these three, they all just feel and sound great and do their own thing very well. I love Tele pickups, I love P90s but these Rick high (“““high”””) gain pickups are really growing on me

Is it me or do guitarists post wrong tabs on purpose to gatekeep people?
I will sometimes find obviously stupid shit that can be simplified by playing it on a different string while sounding the same or even better. But the tab is made in a way that you have to bend your fingers unnaturally or have to unnecessarily jump from string to string, instead of movement economy.
However, when the person who posted the tab (a Youtuber) plays it in a video, he seems to play it smoothly and differently from the posted tab.
I've even spotted the same guy uploading his (easy to play) tab, then later deleting it and posting an overly complicated "version 2" while deleting the simpler version
Curious...

tabs are made by midwits for an audience of retards
most people who are good enough at guitar to actually be good at making tabs don't waste their time writing them out and sharing them with others
but as for why someone would deliberately delete good tabs and upload shittier ones, I don't know. maybe someone memed them into thinking "that's how they played it in the studio"

Also what the FUCK is wrong with the captcha again, why is it so complicated today. Is it because of Iran war shills flooding the site? All 3 of my comments I had to do a 3 part captcha and for the first post they made me wait a minute

Playing Bach’s Prelude from BWV 998 feels like stepping into pure ecstasy, where every subtle voice and sustained note becomes a prayer suspended in time. As I explore its depths, the music feels like a quiet cry to the cosmos, drawing me closer to God through its aching beauty and spiritual stillness.

All pickups are just magnets and wires. The "best" pickup (spoiler: they're all the same fucking thing) in the world is still composed of about 5 dollars worth of shit.
>muh alnico 1 2 3 4 5
>muh ceramic
>muh cunife
how about... doesn't make a difference and no scientist would ever dream of disagreeing with me. It has no bearing on the sound produced whatsoever.
List of reasons to buy a guitar pickup: your pickup is broken. that's it.
they all sound the same. If you don't like the way your guitar sounds, you need to understand what MAKES the guitar sound. Namely, the bridge, the wood, the nut, the strings. All a guitar pickup does is translate that sound into an electronic signal.
If you want to alter that signal, you use pots, caps, eq etc.
in short: all pickups sound the same and it's a proven scientific fact.

How does the EHX Small Clone chorus compare to something like a Boss CE2? The only chorus I’ve ever had were a CE2 and a CE5 so that’s all I can compare it too. There’s a Small Clone local for a fair price but I can buy a new one on reverb for like five more bucks. I’ve been thinking about picking up a chorus again but I definitely like a more subtle chorus vs a super washed out chorus.

15 years ago I used to get enrolled in this acoustic guitar program, reading this shit and the progress was non-existent. basically the notation did tell you the number of the finger you use to press the fret but because of that I skipped reading the notation and just entirely relied to that numbering. safe to say the teacher gave up on me and I was moved into a keyboard program which also made me to read the notation but the process was easier.
fast forward I can play both guitar and keyboard but I never cared about notation at all.

thanks. I think I could do better with more rehearsing. The way I made this "album" is that I'm staying at a house where I can be loud this week. I did rehearse the songs and all of them took several takes, but yeah it's kinda rushed and I'm still new to singing and playing. Also I recorded the vocals and guitar on the same tracks, so it's kinda janky in that regard for mixing. A friend online added the drums. I don't have time to redo em cause I'm trying to focus on other stuff now, but maybe someday I'll find a drummer irl and try to play em idk. Again, thanks for your critique.

incentivizes quantity over quality. why bother optimizing your tabs when you can slap every note on one or two strings and retards who don't even fundamentally understand how a guitar works will eat it up? like there's actually people out there learning from tabs who don't understand you can play the same exact note on different strings.
>Unless you're beyond help bitter and cynical and think being kind is a bad thing.
that's most pro guitarists in my experience.

get a blue chip pick. they have more grip than these and don’t wear out. you’ll learn to pick with better technique eventually and lose the need to compensate for your grip on it. at least with the blue chip you still have a great sounding pick that will last 30 years

Why does the pitch fluctuate so much on my guitar? I'm not sure how I'm supposed to tune it. Do I get the middle part of the sustain on pitch or the attack? The problem is that it seems to keep falling until it rings out.

You're not using a tube tuner so you'll never be accurate regardless

I own a bass and guitar. I don't really know what pickups do but I know where they are on the guitar. When people say things like one pickup is better than another for whatever reason, I don't hear much of a difference.

This is so ignorant. Even Necrophagist made a PDF with their tabs. John Petrucci made an ebook with his tabs. And so on.

Okay, the famous celebrities and rockstars don't usually make tabs, tabs are usually made by more amateur guitarists. I agree with that but I don't really understand the point. If you read my original comment (where I said it seems as if some people ON PURPOSE make tabs obtuse, malevolently), I was talking about something completely different, where you just came to huff your own farts and pretend to be superior to those plebs who write tabs for others. Okay, please have mercy on us poor retards playing with tabs that other retards wrote.

>The Harmonic Percolator is a distortion pedal that was made in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1970's. It used a silicon NPN transistor and a germanium PNP transistor in a design that passes even order harmonics while suppressing odd order harmonics. These even order harmonics are more pleasing to the ear than odd order harmonics.

is it fine to when im playing with 3 fingers on my bass to hit the string on the way up with the nail on the index finger? i can play very fast like this but its a bit muddy, should i instead try to do more typical down plucks with each finger instead?

you need to practice at like 40 bpm for 5-10 mins every day and clean up the technique. whatever cognitive problems you have with your technique when playing slow are going to be replicated at speed if not worse. you’re going to eventually have to be able to cross strings starting on different fingers. also I’m really having a hard time following what you’re saying but I can’t think of any scenario where playing a bass with nails sounds better than not.
