anybody down for some UnWheel Tournament 2k4 perhaps this weekend?
it has beetles and challys (ok it's a 'cuda but its the same thing), and the gametypes are similar to 1nsane, so we got ctf, king of the hill, jamboree, race, car soccer, etc

There was precisely one time where I joined a map of a vehicle hill climb where one dude drove the hummer while I controlled the cannon and I would snipe other hummers off the map because of the insane knock back. The hill climb was a bunch of skinny run ways suspended in the air like what you see in GTAV or Forza Horizon. Shit was a blast but never happened ever again.

yeah that sounds fun, probably had the lightweight vehicles and low grav muts on. i had fun fucking around with the bots but they are only good at jamboree or roam as the game calls it, because they suck at pathfinding and can't repair themselves. i will commune with the shadow government techpriests to get a ut server up of some kind.

apparently you cant get the "tuner addict", "exotic aficionado", or "muscle head" reward cards in carbon if you have any of the pink slip boss cars that dont line up with the car type needed for the specific card. so if you want to get all the reward cards and also have all the pink slips in your garage you need to painfully grind out enough money ($700 a race) to fill your garage 3 times in stage 1 before beating the first boss.

i miss the blt hoagie
If you get it on bread instead of the roll it's the exact same sandwich as the blt club except without the extra piece of filler bread in the middle but the same price, that way you get more meat and cheese than bread. Then you sub the tomatoes for pickles and jalapenos. Then it's delicious. This is unbeatable. But there is a danger you'll be marked by the employees from next time on. It's a double edged sword, I can't recommend it to amateurs.
all this really means though is that you should just stick with the monthly special.

I choose this thread because it has more anime girls in it.
Does an analog handbrake make much difference for rally games? I'm not great at RBR but right now I just use one of the paddles on my Logitech wheel with the digital button filter or whatever it is to change the response curve. Is a separate handbrake actually important or is it more just an immersion thing?
>>
>>
>>28850486
analog handbrakes are mostly a larp because you actually want it to lock up the wheels fast
however they can be useful for some advanced driving techniques like managing understeer in a fwd car. for codies simcade slop like dirt rally it literally doesn't matter
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>28850561
>>28850618
I figured I can get by without one. I might get one at some point, but I'll make do without since RBR has some pretty nice settings for adjusting digital buttons.

the only people who think its good are those who dont have pedal haptics and want to feel abs through the wheel. other than the judder you get from when the front tires are so gripped up it jumps instead of sliding which i havent seen in any other game its pretty vague. All the cars have very different feeling as well so the dynamic range is probably greater just not tuned well in most cases would be my guess.

There's literally nothing to change in LMU's ffb, there's just a gain slider and a filter. To make the it somewhat decent you have to play with your wheelbase settings and even then its very mediocre. Id say its worse than GT7s FFB, which is saying a lot.

>do nothing
maybe some YouTuber masquerading as a dev said this perhaps conflating the idea that some of the rf2 config files are renamed or in different places with LMU not using ANY of the values but they're wrong and the FFB stuff and other shit leftover from rf2 like physics based driver head motion does in fact work perfectly normal. LMU is so much just an RF2 mod you can literally load RF2 mod packages into it with the RF2 mod manager that LMU still includes

the chinese moza shill likes to stealthpost threads late at night when americans and euros are asleep but if you post the tiananmen square copypasta in the thread he gets chinked, if you notice most of the posts in the other thread aren't a discussion it's just one guy talking to himself to try and bump the thread over this one.
quite simply /ovg/ is not an advertising platform or reddit and while it is ok to shill your fav company or product in the thread, making a thread where the OP itself is a shill is bad form.
>>
>>
>>
>>28854571
if it's not an actual shill it's fine.
ideally, do not use a marketing image off google, because it just makes the thread look like pajeet spam in the catalog. also, make sure you have the latest OP text and not one from last month like mozafag.

major skill issue tbqh it's literally the same thing
you have very poor car control and just whip the wheel around randomly instead of finding the self-centering point
>>
>>28856306

because its a loose surface and the AWD just does all the work for you. on tarmac the car will grip up and its not really the same as whipping it around in the dirt and mud

mathematical grip doesn't really work like real tires no matter what you do. modern science still has no clue how rubber actually interacts with the pavement in extremes, there are some theories from pro drifters that there are quantum mechanics at work in the boundary layer and that when the tires are spinning the car is effectively levitating on vaporized rubber. no video game replicates this.
>>
>>28856481
i mean i'm not necessarily saying the games are doing something wrong but that they basically try to choose a model that feels "right enough" in a particular doctrine of racing and the consequence is someone is going to be disappointed in the model

>i mean i'm not necessarily saying the games are doing something wrong
well the point is they are and until someone figures out how tires actually work and how that translates into a math equation, all sims are doing what you said, trying to make it "right enough", but that's how you get weird shit like iracing where everything handles like a 4th gen stock car on cold baloon slicks or assetto corsa' stock tire models having very peaky grip that doesn't feel as elastic and sticky as rfactor, which by contrast is often too sticky.

also issue with those game(s) is that they only test one brand of tyres for all types, 1 pair for semislicks, 1 pair for roads... and so on
regarding the vaporized rubber, the annone is right, during the drift you see shitton of white smoke, you effectively ""hover"" on the cushion of the rubber grinding itself against tarmac, a.k.a you hydroplane on melted rubber
>No video game simulates this
let's say you want to go autism-beamng like route to tyre model and you might understand why this video game takes a LONG time to release a proper tyre model.
>The thermodynamics of the tire (heat generation, transfer, and dissipation across the whole tire structure).
>The chemistry of pyrolysis (the rate at which the rubber degrades based on temperature and pressure).
>The fluid dynamics of the resulting gas and molten layer.
>The changing geometry of the contact patch as the tire wears and deforms.
When you think about it deeper, it's a miracle we even got somewhat-proper tyre heat model in racing sims
ac1 sucks in that regard though lmao
Nowadays racing sims run on Pacejkas Magic Formula and other similar empirical models, it is a mathematical equation that takes inputs (vertical load, slip angle, camber, etc) and outputs the resulting grip, its really accurate for the conditions under which the data was collected, but in it's principle its just a huge database of grip for given conditions, it doesn't "know" physics, all it does is REPLICATE physics, when you go into extremes like anon mentioned, sustained drifting and how vaporized rubber affects it, you lose the model's ability to predict further grip, and lets be real, we live in a world with dogshit no hesi mods, all of the racing sims treat rubber as a static non-liquid object too.
Picrel is beamng with tyre wear and thermals mod, which sucks on its own tbf

you really want to master the drifting controls as soon as possible. enter corners wide, and tap the handbrake then start turning and it just slides around simple as. you WILL need this during both GPs and the autocross course
you can get away with colliding with the walls, just make sure you arent actuallypointing towards the wall when doing so
>>
Something interesting i found in gt7 its a speed/power bug and somehow no one is talking about it.
My 800p r34 skyline has a top speed of 350kmh, if I simply hit pause and let auto drive take over acceleration that top speed jumps to 400kmh, this works with every single car in the game.
So no you are not crazy the guy passing you on a straight in a bop race isnt a better driver he hit pause on the straight, the more you know.
If you dont believe me go try it, hitting pause gives you about 20% more power.

I specifically want something that's arcadey but with a realistic feel and contains lots of different real-life cars. I already have Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2, Dirt Rally (both) every WRC game except the latest, and a bunch of pure arcade-racers that are only a few hours long, and GRIP, and both Redouts, and Ballistic.NG, and Beam.NG...

vanilla 06 is missing the All Star race, the Daytona Duels, Rockingham raceway, Bill Elliott, Randy LaJoie, Jason Keller, Jack Sprague, and some fantasy drivers.
they all got cut really late in development so they're still in the game files, and a simple hex edit reactivates them.

Redpill me on Direct Drives, what is a "good enough" option that won't ruin my budget?
For context, I currently own G29.
