The sun rises over the horizon, painting the far horizons of New York City in a cascade of brightness and tones situated around the tall buildings. Today is just a day like any other as you rise, the brightness of the morning sky peeking through your curtained windows.
Stretching out of bed with a fairly dramatic yawn, you hear a voice call out to you, "Honey, come down and eat before the bus gets here!" Your mothers voice resounds from downstairs.
"I'll be down there soon!" You respond, huffing to yourself as you get out of bed and head towards the bathroom.
Turning the shower on and waiting for the water to heat up, you undress and gather your school uniform into a neat pile nearby in your bathroom. Some time passes after you finally clean up and get ready, your blue and white uniform accentuating your lean form fairly well. You look for your student card before heading downstairs and finally find it, the has your picture on it with a name that reads..

Yup, that's definitely you alright. You sigh in relief at the fact you haven't accidently swiped anyone else's student card like last time. Your picture displays you with a light complexion that suffers from slight acne, your short dark hair crops itself neatly taken care of across your scalp, and your steely blue eyes stare back at you.
After finishing up you race down the stairs to the dining table where your mom and dad are seated already, pancakes for breakfast again, mom's specialty. You dig in to the food and spend your idle time when there's not food in your mouth chatting with the both of them. Today is the first day of your grade 11 year, Midtown high is generally highly regarded for it's science programs, they're so recommended that companies like Oscorp, Baxter Foundation, and even Stark Industries are known to prospect and sponsor young and talented students.
"So Tom Tom, what's your timetable looking like this year?" Your father asks, his aged face smiling warmly towards you.
Playing to your strengths, you've chosen as heavy a timetable as you can that revolves around..
>Science, Midtown High's specialty of course.
>Physical Education, you've always been more of the athletic type.
>Art, you have a perceptive eye and creative imagination.
>Nothing in particular, you're pretty average in all areas.

Rolled 2 (1d2)
For the sake of keeping the train rolling, I'm going to let the dice decide this one. This is just our starting strengths, don't worry we won't be hard locking Thomas into the braniac character type.
1 = artsy
2 = good at both, excellent at neither

>Art and Science
You've gained a +1 to any roll requiring an INT or PER check!
You smile back at your dad, "most of my electives are science and art," you tell him.
He smiles and nods approvingly at you, "that's my boy," he says as he ruffles his hand around your once neatly groomed, short hair. You laugh and brush off him messing up your hair and excuse yourself from breakfast. Your mom returns to the kitchen and starts cleaning up. There's still some time to spare before the bus to school arrives, you spend it searching for your sketchbook and a neat science magazine you've been subscribed to for quite some time now.
HONK, HONK
The bus waits not even a minute before impatiently sounding it's presence to you. You race out the door shouting a quick goodbye to your parents and zoom straight inside the bus where the driver greets you with a passive aggressive stare, tapping on their watch.
You roll your eyes in response and get out of his view before he can look at you in a more disapproving way. The usual kids are all seated in their typical spots, some loners, some larger groups, and a handful of duo's just casually chatting with each other. The ones who stand out to you today are fairly typical and you see them often, there's a very skinny boy with mid-length brown hair and glasses being bullied some members of the Midtown High football team, you sigh when you hear them chanting "PETER PUKER, PETER PUKER," the younger boy tries timidly telling them to stop but his voice is easily drowned out by their jeers.
One of the duo's sitting with next to each other are a dark skinned older boy, and a girl the same age with blonde hair, you've noticed that they tend to keep just to themselves and never really are spotted talking to anybody else. Last year you heard they're dating or whatever, not that you really care.
The last person you notice is also one of the loners typically on the bus. He has short, ginger colored hair, and a very rounded body shape. His sense of fashion rivals even that kid Peter's for how nerdy and plain looking he's dressed. You never really typically see them do much on the bus, or at school but skim through their textbook before classes.
>Take a seat near Peter and the football team
>Sit by the couple
>Sit next to the ginger haired kid
>Commit social suicide and sit by yourself on the first day

Certainly more interesting than a typical specialist.
>Sit next to the ginger haired kidI honestly thought these were all spider-people at first. The couple was Gwen/Miles, the ginger kid was Bailey, Peter was obvious. Then I reread the descriptions and saw that the redhead was fat (and remembered that Bailey is, like, ten), and now I’m curious.

Not wanting to be a third wheel to the couple, or get tangled in the drama between Parker and the football team, you opt for the safer option next to the ginger kid.
Walking all the way to the back of the bus, huddled in the corner by himself for a few sections, is a meatball of a kid, not even bothering to notice your presence and choosing to instead stay hunched over into his textbook. You take your seat next to him and just examine him, he's a short and rounded boy with an extremely pale complexion, his heavy breathing as he reads the textbook leaves you on the constant verge of anxiety, you think to yourself that this guy sounds like he's constantly winded.
You try to break the ice, "uh, hey.." is all you can muster out, trying to break the boys concentration on the book.
He just peers up at you for a second, a semi-annoyed expression being worn as he does, he sighs.
Oh god, what the fuck?! You take a whiff of the air and are taken aback by the horrible smell of air he just exuded. The aroma sends your sensory system into a near state of shock and you feel a sensation of cold air rush down your spine as it tries to make sense of what's going on.
OH BROTHER, THIS GUY STINKS! Is all you can think to yourself.
Trying to keep yourself composed, you try to make conversation while maintaining a concealed effort to not look head on into the aromatic ginger boy.
"My name's Thomas," you regretfully mention.
"Pierce," is all he says back to you.
You look at the textbook he has, it's the same one as yours from a previous biology class. He's either studying an old textbook or he's one grade down from you.
"You uh, got biology first period or something?" You ask him.
He raises an eyebrow at you and scoffs, "studying old material, covering the basics is the founding steps to mastery you know?" He says, raising a finger in the air as he does so.
>This guy's a fucking loser, let him know he is.
>This guy's a fucking loser, use your remaining time to go sit next to somebody else (who?)
>Maybe he's not so bad.. try to talk about science stuff with him

PART 1/2
ROLLED 20
You quickly scan the material that Pierce is reviewing. Pretty basic material, it highlights over the unit you remember last year where they had you dissect a frog. Going off what Pierce mentioned to you about reviewing earlier material, it's a safe bet he's probably new to Midtown since you haven't yet seen him before, otherwise you would have caught a glimpse of him last year. That could also explain that aside from the horrific body odor, why he's sitting alone.
"Dissection, huh?" You start, causing Pierce to peer into your eyes cautiously.
He gives way to a slight sigh, "animal biology is my favorite area to learn from," Pierce chimes in, his face beaming at the topic slightly.
You both begin to delve into the subject...
WE KEPT UP EFFORTLESSLY WITH PIERCE
There's seemingly no discrepancy or gaps in knowledge between the two of you on the matter. You're able to tell there's certain areas of the topic where Pierce seems to be measuring your knowledge on the matter, when he does this he also takes a brief pause to contemplate on your review of the material.
Pierce looks away from you and turns his gaze towards the passing scenery out the window as the bus rides along to school. "Heh.. you're pretty good, you know that?" He says, returning his look to you and pushing his glasses back up with a single finger.
"Sometimes I know my stuff," you tell him with a smug expression in return. It makes him laugh and shake his head.
Pierce closes the textbook, "You take any science electives this year?" He asks you.
"As many as I could," you reply back.
Pierce nods, "my father is good friends with the faculty here," he replies back. "Supposedly there's going to be a class trip for us this week to some foreign insect and animal exhibit opening up downtown, I hope we are partnered up to explore it together" he tells you.
You just shrug, "sounds cool," trying to sound at least half enthused by the idea. Pierce smiles back, he seems at least somewhat warmer to you.
You feel as if Pierce trusts you a little more now!

PART 2/2
The two of you talk a bit more as the bus gets closer to school. You try to do what you can to get Pierce interested in other topics besides science with varying degrees of success. Eventually the bus pulls in to the parking zone for Midtown High, you both rise out of your seat along with everyone else on the bus and let Pierce take the lead as he walks in front of you. Your eyes nearly bulge out of your head when you get a glimpse at the heat he's packing in his school briefs.
In the back pocket of Pierce's pants is a wallet, seemingly ready to burst from it's containment. 'Holy shit, this guys family must be loaded or something!' You think to yourself.
You're not the only one who notices this either, when you get off the bus you see some of the guys from the football team on your bus talking amongst themselves and pointing at Pierce. One of the tallest among them, a very athletically built boy with blonde hair begins striding over to him. When he gets close enough to Pierce you see him extend an arm out cautiously trying to go and grab his wallet.
It's not long before Pierce's wafting stench meets the boys nostrils though, it sends him reeling his hand back a bit. The tall boy quickly looks back to his friends and you see him mouth, 'holy shit', back to the group. Pierce walks a bit ahead of the boy as he second guesses doing this again, seemingly not wanting to get close to Pierce again.
It seems like Pierce is the target of a pickpocket attempt.
>Call the boy out
>Run up to Pierce and quietly explain what's going on
>Let things run their course
>You could use some of that money.. who knows how much is in there?

How risky or how much of a good idea this one is?
>Take out phone out and record
>make sure to catch how the guy who's doing the pickpocket is actually trying to reach for it
>"Woooow! Is really the football team trying to steal from a random kid on the first day? What a bunch of scumbags" and yadda yadda yadda
>Either ruin their reputation and putting them on the spotlight in front of everyone, or take the video and snitch on them with the principal
We might get treated worse than Peter, but oh well

>Record the boy stealing from Pierce
You quickly whip out your phone and begin recording as the tallest boy from the football team makes a second attempt at pickpocketing Pierce.
"Wow, not even the first day back and already trying to steal!?" You yell, it's loud enough that it stirs a few people causing them to look into what's going on as well.
A few of the students form a loose circle around Pierce and the young athlete, "really, Eddie?" A young girl questions the boy with a disappointed tone.
Eddie shakes his head, looking back at his team, their only response being them shrugging their shoulders and telling them to come back. Pierce is staring holes through the football player, he looks at you for a moment and mouths a thank you before returning his look back to Eddie.
Eddie makes a walk of shame back as the jig is up. He makes his way to you and stops for a moment right in your path, red in the face and furiously sizing you up, "anyone sees that and you're dead, got it?" He questions you, the venomous tone coming from his threat warrants that he's probably at least half serious.
Now that this boy is next to you after all, you notice just how big he really is. You'd almost have an easier time assuming he's on some growth hormones or steroids the way Eddie is built, he easily towers over you standing well over 6' tall with an extremely wide build to boot. He's so intimidating, it causes your resolve to for a brief moment disappear. Quickly looking around, you actually realize quite a few more eyes are on you now, watching for if you say something. You think about if it's a smart idea or not to quip out a response.
>Stand up for yourself
Requires a 1d20 roll
DC is 15
You get the feeling this will almost certainly bring out a physical reaction from Eddie
>Stay quiet, say nothing, look down
>Meet Eddie's gaze, stay silent
Requires a 1d20 roll
DC is 10
