These were the best Olympics since Vancouver 2010, which I was also on /sp/ for. I hope we are all still alive in four years to share the next one together.
>>
>>
>>
>>153630623
Vancouver 2010 was horrible. Canada cheated by refusing to let the international community train on the tracks and courses so Canada could have the advantage. They won a shitload of medals doing that while sending fuckloads of athletes home with concussions and broken bones, and one athlete home in a body bag.

I loved these Olympics. Especially after the rotten NFL and MLB season that made me question my life choices. I am planning to cut back on the amount of sports (especially MLB) I consume going forward but these Olympics gave me a lot of joy and I really enjoyed shitposting about it on here. I also enjoyed how it was over by 5pm every night so it really did force me to try to start changing my life up and how I spend my time. So I will keep doing that forward.

Thanks. Starting a few years ago, I started watching baseball almost every night, as a coping mechanism for shit happening in my life... and it just became routine. So I would just sit there and watch baseball or other sports (and drink). I realized I don't want to do that anymore so I am putting a stop to it. Basically forcing myself to do other things at night, instead of falling into the comfortable routine that wasn't helping me as much.
>>
>>153630781
I came to a similar conclusion, not so much about time though. I’m cutting out NFL entirely (as a Chiefs fan that’s no light decision!) and keeping up with winter sports instead. So hockey, skeleton when the season starts again, figure skating.
>>
These olympics were great.... for winter Olympics. However, the 100m dash is the pinnacle Olympics event and no other game comes close. Usain Bolt's 9.63 in London is the the greatest Olympics moment of all time. In short, you wait 2 years for the "true" Olympics
>>
>>
>>153631013
I don’t drink but I sometimes worry that I basically spend a good chunk of my life watching sport and shitposting on here
I’ve started doing 5Ks twice a week to try and break up this habit
What other evening activities do you recommend?

Sounds like you'd rather watch "sports" and "events" subjectively scored by other people. Just watch the 800m or mile if your can't stand to watch browns win. Track and field, and specifically track, is the only true test of human species and it's limits. Running is mapped in our genes from the dawn of man and are the true olympic events.

This is so grim. In 2008 we had Shawn Johnson as our QT 3.14
And RE: post Olympic depression, we’re all going through it. just sleep. Don’t go on a drinking bender unless you’re already on one this morning for the hockey game, order some Waffle House on DoorDash (yes they’re on there now) sip your beers and get to bed early tonight.
2 more years will come up faster than you think. And the World Cup is generally really fun as well.
>>
>>
I wish I could put myself into some kind of cryogenic sleep and only wake up for olympics every 2 years, be awake for 2 weeks and then go back to sleep for next 2 years and so one and only live through olympics.
I dont enjoy any other period of time at all except for these events.

i am going to try to get into non-"commercial" sports, I mean yeah, they're all "commercial" but I mean more curling, skeleton, etc - worlds, that sort of stuff and less NFL, MLB, NHL.... only issue is I have NO idea what the seasons are and what channels they're on or where to find them when they are on.

I just don't care about summer sports. Only exception is the Tour de France, but that has not been the same ever since our all-knowing commentator retired and died.

Based, my life also lowkey revolves around the Olympics. I’m still productive and getting after it, but I literally measure time by Olympics and feel like I’m coming into my season of power when the Olympics approach

Yeah I agree the Winter Olympics are much better and more comfy.
I did some work at a rowing park though and got to meet the Swiss Time dudes and see the different World Championship teams (which are usually the Olympic teams as well) so I like rowing. If you can find a couple good sports the summer games are fun too

Idk, it's both inspiring and their raw passion makes me want to live my life to the fullest and to try new things, but I also feel immense regret for wasting my life up until now doing nothing but playing vidya and having zero cool hobbies/skills/talents.
I'm not envious of the athletes- I'm really happy for each and every one of them, but it also makes me sad I'll never be in their shoes and living it up like they are if that makes any sense.

i think the ending ceremony wouldnt be as good if opening wasnt so controversial
the ending being so lowkey and classy and especially the "I did it my waaaay~" thing really tied it together
like yea fuck you we are flamboyant fags and trannies, you still had good time tho
and they were right, it was awesome time, they did it all their way

Is there any amusing events to watch in the Paralympics, like they strap people with no arms or legs to a sled and then push the fuckers down a mountainside? There's ripe lulz potential to be had by having disabled people do sports, yet the IOC fails to capitalise upon it.

I actually went to the Lillehammer games when I was a kid. Only thing I remember is getting up extremely early, the ridiculously full train from Oslo to Lillehammer, and it being incredibly cold even by norwegian standards.
Was fortunately before they instituted a lower limit to temperatures to compete in, so I got to watch a bit of the women's 15km cross country ski race.
Good if rather limited memories.

Pretty large, I would guess more than at the Summer Olympics, since it's easier to compete in most Winter Sports as you get older than keep up with 22 yo roidgroids.
The most turnover is typically in figure skating but now that the age limit has been raised you should see a lot of the skaters returning. For our figure skaters, it will probably just be Amber that doesn't return, and our pairs. Ilia, Alysa, and Isabeau should be back.
And the hockey teams will remain relatively the same.
>>
>>153665118
Interesting. I guess some feel like
>I was in peak condition and still came in 19th, so what's the point
Others...
>Sorry Chud you came in 20th, we don't want you on the team anymore
Still some
>I got a medal, I'm good now, time to move on
I always figured itd be a higher percentage
>>
>>
>>153665168
I don't think it is a choice usually. People who got in are now four years older and lose their spots to people who are four years younger. Or they move on to a "normal" life, and that is something they leave behind.
Remember we mostly hear about the winners, if you're good enough to medal at 20 you're probably going to be good enough to get on the team at 24, and they can stick around, but for most they got one shot at this.

/m/ here. I suggest everyone watch the following Gundam series:
G Gundam
Gundam Build Fighters
Gundam 00
I'm assuming that a large part of your enjoyment of the Olympics is the notion of people coming together from around the world to do cool action shit, with their national origin prominent in the narrative that gets spun about their trials. These scratch that itch for me. There are probably quite a few other anime that do something similar (look for ones with international tourney arcs). If you're okay with unabashed shonen stuff made for literal children (but still with compelling competitive narratives), also look up the OG Beyblade and Medabots.

I doubt it, but I’m surprised how many posters are now admitting it. Normally, I’m one of the oldest in any thread (I’m 38), but only by a couple of years. The average 4chan poster in my experience is probably about 35. We don’t get many new posters, I don’t think, and most of the oldfags are still here. There’s also a chance that posters in their 40s are only here because of the Winter Olympics, and they’ll all go back to their home boards or off 4chan completely now there’s nothing left to watch.

Feels weird as hell to be this many Olympics into the 2020's though, I still remember the 2021 Olympic kino like it wasn't long ago and now I'm getting towards the wrong side of my 30's. This was a great one though, oddly my first time watching the full winter Olympics as well.
I went on a vacation in Europe during the last week of the Olympics and watching some key events during the vacation with the desired outcome happening, in some cases unexpectedly was legendary

You're probably only depressed because you don't have much of a life of your own. If you did you likely would be too concerned with your own life to be this bent up out of shape over the end of one chapter in someone else's life.
