football is way more popular in Africa. And all you need is a ball.
But more importantly: cycling is too high IQ for Africans.

>For many, the cycling season doesn't really start until the weekend with Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, and Brian Holm is one of the many:
>- It only really starts now. It's the big test of strength. There have been some warm-up races. It was great in Australia, and the Middle East is also entertaining, but now is when the real cyclists are riding, he says with great anticipation in his voice, when the Field talks to him ahead of the opening weekend.

>crash happened when his bike skidded on a cat's-eye, a raised reflective pavement marker, just as he was about to take a drink from a bidon
>"Instantly, I managed to get up. But what was the most shocking thing of all was my leg, because my foot was twisted round next to my thigh. I told myself that wasn't normal
>Initially they didn't realize that I had a hole in my intestine, so that's what made my condition worse. I was starting to suffer from peritonitis and had a high temperature. I went more than ten days without eating
>the doctors in Belgium had to operate on the injury. after everything had been put back in place, he had a new wound that needed to heal
>"I am open from the sternum to the lower abdomen"
>Touzé is still waiting to see how multiple torn ligaments will be treated, it's estimated that it'll take up to eight months for him to recover
> in podcast Pacquot argued that today's bikes a "harder and harder to handle" Touzé agreed.
>"The bikes now, I get the impression that they're no longer suitable for us, in fact. Because now, you can ride at 60km/h on the flat quite easily, let's say, in the wheels. Whereas maybe if I have the same crash at 40km/h, the injuries are a lot less severe
>The bikes now are 100% rigid – they're slices of wood. So the slightest shock that you take on the wheel, it's amplified x100 on us. So what's for sure is you can't rectify anything on the bike
>You feel that all teams are flat out. They're not going to let anything go. And now, the tension is already there 100km from the finish. Before, at the early-season races, let's say 20km from the finish you might start to feel the tension.
>Now, even the races like Oman, where the roads are relatively wide and well-surfaced, the slightest gust of wind and the peloton is immediately stressed. Everyone wants to be well-placed. The tension is really at the maximum and you can see it since the start of the season – there has been at least one big crash at every race"

Wood is not very ridgid. I get what he is staying, buyy my autism force me to point it put. Carbon should be made illegal for frame material.
>>
>>153672172
I've said it before but I genuinely think they have to consider banning or restricting food on the bike so that teams are forced to race chill in the beginning and save the energy for last 50km or so.
I'm all for banning carbon frames as well. I think both steel and titanium bikes, custom made according to your body to get a perfect bike fit is much more important than your bike being aero.
Carbon is a dirty material; you can't recycle it and it's pretty unsafe. And ultimately, carbon aero bikes do not make the difference. Training, nutrition and doping do.

I'm going to start /cyc/ling this spring, should I buy, road or gravel? I'm 190 cm and 110 kg mostly muscle (powerlifter) and my main goal is just to have fun doing a lot of distance and traveling (maybe bikepacking someday).

Depending on what you can get. Just get something that can take +30mm tires.

start with a bike fit and then look for a used bike that fits you, preferably rim brake and steel for durability and ease of maintenance and have it set up correctly according to your bike fit.
Then start cycling. And if you actually enjoy it, get some cycling kit. Then keep doing it.
>>

There's a lot of snobbery about it, but I would say even aluminum is fine. Its cheap, good enough, and makes for a great reason to upgrade later on if ones keep riding.

I think roads are better here and I live near Czech and Slovak border in the mountains. I used to do a lot of mountain biking when I was younger and now I just want do a lot of distance and "travel", but I'm afraid of falling or fucking up my bike due to my weight (I'm never going below 100 kg because I don't want to lose my muscles), so I want something that will be durable on long distance roads and fast at the same time.

some of the bikes have weight limit like 100 kg or something like that (made for children) so be mindful of that, also the weight limit includes you, you are bike and all the shit you carry obviously

it's not snobbery, the problem with aluminum is that it only lasts 10 years at best. After that, the frame is pretty much worthless. It's got something to do with "fatigue life". The fatigue life of good steel that was well maintained is almost indefinitely. And titanium as well but doesn't even require maintenance. Ti is also lighter. I think a custom fitted Ti bike is the endboss but I'm a poorfag so 80-90's columbus steel it is for me.

But now, almost nine years after the tragic death of his buddy Scarponi, cycling enthusiast Franky has also sadly passed away. The parrot was killed in a serious fire on Thursday at the business where he lived. The Michele Scarponi Foundation confirmed this on Instagram.
"It's a loss that deeply affects us," they said. "A big hug to Giacomo (the parrot's owner, ed.) who introduced us to Franky and who saw his life's work disappear in a devastating fire in a warehouse where Franky also lived."

>Yes — Lidl does bake in‑store. Most Lidl shops, including those in Ireland, run an in‑store bakery where bread, pastries, and other baked goods are baked throughout the day in specialist ovens. The products arrive as prepared dough and are finished (proved and baked) on‑site, so customers get them warm and fresh.

that being said we have a pretty easy job covering bike races thanks to lintbebouwing and minimal elevation and just reusing the same locations over and over

sometimes you hear the sporza boys complain about ASO and RCS their race coverage but they have to deal with mountainous terrain which makes transmission a lot harder and stages that are single use so i think cycling flanders is just easy mode
