Stefan Küng (32) crashed on the cobblestones in the final of the Omloop Nieuwsblad . He immediately stood next to his bike, his face contorted in pain. And another blow followed in the hospital.

"He has broken his left femur. Due to the location and severity, surgery is necessary," wrote his new employer, Tudor Pro Cycling Team .

Küng will remain hospitalized in Belgium for the time being and will be transferred to Switzerland as soon as possible. He will undergo surgery there early next week.

For the Swiss, who switched from Groupama-FDJ to Tudor this winter and was sent to the classics as a team leader, this is a particularly tough blow. His spring season seems to be over before it has really gotten going.

Helmets were not really needed one guy died from a somewhat freak event. In general most crashes injure hips and shoulders.
>>
>>153705249
But why weren't they needed? We see guys land on their head all the time. That tudor dude would ahve been fucked without one.
>>
>>153704311
it is speed and also rim brakes allowed more room for mistake. with hydraulic disk brakes you can lock wheel with your little finger
>>
>>153705392
So banning disk breaks should be done before airbag shenanigans.
>>
>>153705432
unironically yes. if they really care about safety they should ban hookless tubeless wheels and disk brakes.

>>153704311
they were wearing helmets long before it was absolutely required
>>
>>153703893
thats a good question i hadn't really thought of, it probably helps in really bad crashes but in a "small" crash its just going to be more bothersome than a disc wheel change
>>
>>153705451
>unironically yes. if they really care about safety they should ban hookless tubeless wheels and disk brakes.
Also maybe limit the amount of riders depending on road conditions and average road width or something.
Maybe certain dangerous parts of the parcours should have speed limits as well...
Maybe also limit food intake as well. For example, only in the last 50km are riders allowed to use sugar. This will take avg. speed down significantly I think.
100% agree on bringing back rim brakes. Rim brakes are as good at stopping the wheel as disk brakes are. The only difference is that it requires a little more force with your hands so it's harder to lock up the wheel in a moment of panic which is significantly safer. When I took motorcycle classes, they insisted on learning to break with one finger to develop trigger discipline because hard braking is guaranteed crash. I would also ban flared steer tubes because the drops being wider I think it's easier to lock into riders next to you.
I would also maybe force a minimum tyre width of 32mm. It will increase grip, that's for sure.
>>
>>153703857
>i actually think the airbag thing might work if they continue refining it
it will literally cause crashes, not stop them. Imagine the airbag popping during an all out sprint....
>>
If anything I think they should let racing get MORE dangerous

I got a gravel bike last december and I ride to the gym and back and I also ride alone on sundays sometimes

I mean how do I get into the sport as in watching it (I've never gotten into any sport before in my life)
>>
>>153712334
easiest entries are grand tours since cycling is the most interesting in continuation when you start to be accustomed with its personalities. right now it's classics season - series of one day races. try to watch some big ones, like Strade, Milan - San-Remo, Ronde etc. might be a bit challenging in your time zone though since all of them are in Europe
>>
>>153712334
The reasonable choice is to start with the tour de france, you should get good coverage at home.
The fastest (I wouldn't advise it) is to start playing the fantasy league with us: https://www.velogames.com/
>>
>>153712334
https://www.procyclingstats.com/race/strade-bianche/2026/statistics

Watch this to start and if you find it boring, cycling is not for you. This is pure chaos racing, in it's purest form. You get kino, aggressive racing and plenty of crashes.
>>
>>153712334
Just start watching it.
Tiz (link in OP) is free and also has an archive of older stuff, so you could watch last weekend's races or last year's Tour de France or whatever tickles your fancy. But you need an adblocker, and sometimes the streams get taken down or don't work.
Idk what other options there are in your country. Vuelta Ciclista del Uruguay begins soon-ish (26 March) and will presumably air on your national TV, and maybe you could even go take a look from the roadside. It's "only" a national level race, so there won't be any of the big names you'd see at the Tour de France, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's less fun to watch.
>>

Not sure whether I can make time in my schedule for it, I'll still be hungover from celebrating the great SALBY's victory of the Grand Prix Apollon Temple.

not happy that some euro team didn't give this guy a chance
disgraceful that baldism still exists in this day and age
>>
doesn't seem like peloton is catching them. Gillespie should win easily from this group if no one attacks.

>Even baldness, when it is only baldness over the forehead, is rather becoming than not in a man, for it heightens the head and adds to the intelligence of the face.

maybe watch Chris Horner's commentary on the races. I don't always agree with his boomer antics, but at least you can learn the sports from him.

gold details on the wheels are over the top, but otherwise I love that matte blue and gold frame. Pinarello always has killer finishes

Disagree. I love watching racing first thing in am. Then you've got whole day ahead of you.

Meanwhile in Italy:
