I think the Braves are the real deal. Unquestionably. You make this trade 10/10 times. De Vries can hang at SS defensively and probably hits well enough to profile at 3B. Switch-hitter. Awesome talent, low risk, and more control. He may even be up late this year, so from the A's perspective they only had to wait a year to see their return.

It's a very big if. I hated this trade when it came out, but I sorta see the vision. Padres offense died at the end of 2025 (seems to be a pattern, lol) into postseason, but Miller just deletes innings. Like, no disrespect to Cade Smith, who is a fantastic reliever, but it's night-and-day comparing the two. Miller is striking out 2-3 batters an inning. He's given up one hit and one walk. Last year in the playoffs I think he had more balls than foul balls hit against him. He's is legitimately a reliever cheat code. Now his arm could blow out tomorrow and the trade instantly looks silly, so there is tremendous risk for the Padres, but you can also see the vision of a Royals-esque four-headed monster BP. Between Morejon and Miller, they have arguably the best lefty and righty BP arms in the game. By leverage index, the Padres have 4 (Miller, Morejon, Estrada, Adam) since 2024. I think the Padres have to at least get to the NLCS this year to make the trade "worth it", and obviously, if they win a WS at any time during his team control, it's a worthwhile trade.
