A simple conversion from vtt to srt shouldn't result in what I got because there are differences between the sources. The biggest one that needs to be accounted for is in this scene:

Because I love the complete nostalgic experience. When you strip a DVD down to a single x265 MKV, you lose the interactive menus, the weirdly charming bonus features, and the entire "disc-in-tray" nostalgia. I’ve digitized my entire collection into ISOs so I can launch them instantly through media players or emulators, complete with box art and full navigation. It’s about immersion, not just the movie file. I’ll take a "proper" copy over a "generational loss" re-encode any day, regardless of how much people shill for file-size efficiency. On that note, I’m really hoping we see more progress with the Domesday Duplicator project for VHS and LaserDisc. Capturing the raw RF signal is the only way to truly preserve those formats before the hardware dies out. But sure, "MP4/MKVs" are for watching; ISOs and RF captures are for preservation.

Reminder: you’re kinda mashing together a few different scenarios. If someone rebuilt an image from extracted files, yeah, that’s not a strict 1:1 dump in the preservation/Redump sense—layout can change, pregaps/track layout won’t magically come back, etc.

But “re-authoring it back into an image won’t restore the original disc structure or offset” is exactly the point: that only matters for certain formats (CD/mixed‑mode especially). For a lot of plain data/DVD-Video cases, a rebuilt ISO can still be totally player-compatible.

So: not 1:1? fair. “breaks compatibility with most players”? that’s a stretch unless you’ve actually tested it on real hardware/players

Pure re-release slop. These are just stripped DVD9 re-releases, dual-layer capacity wasted on a poor widescreen re-release with zero extras and a basic menu (simillar to BD Video releases). It’s the worst of both worlds: all the bloat of a DVD9 size with none of the archival value. On top of that, instead of providing a proper, untouched UDF ISO for preservation, they’re seeding these fragmented, stripped-down versions. Imagine having such bad taste that you'd rather seed a re-release than the original retail untouched.

I was hoping for the "Fullscreen version" original with the extras. And I know they aren't the gold standard untouched UDF ISOs, but try finding these anywhere else in 2026. I'd take a stripped DVD9 over a dead tracker any day. Better than nothing, and it made my day finally seeing them pop up. Shoutout to the anon sharing, love ya!
