I like elves being what humans wish they were. And I don't mean that in the smug pompous sense, I mean literally, their knights are genuinely chivalrous, their kings are honorable and rule justly, their cities and castles are pristine, their culture is elegant, and so on. They are, in essence, "High Men", similar to the Numenoreans of LOTR, they exist to contrast the more gritty, down-to-earth humans whose lives are more harsh and less beatific than the elves.

The elves (or whatever copyrightable abomination GW calls them in AoS) would react to the Imperial Japanese as a curiosity, something quaint and weird until they notice that unlike AoS humans their guns shoot more than once every two minutes and their tanks actually fucking function. The Japanese, and perhaps everyone else in the world, would see the Lummies as demonic creatures; tall, beautiful to the point of being uncanny, eyes with less life, and long protruding ears. The Soviets may offer them Crimea or carve out a part of Germany for them, the Nazis may offer them Lebanshrum, the Americans might offer them the powers of petroleum, and the Japanese (assuming they didn't attack the elves enough to completely cut ties) may offer them valued land in China. Elven magic would be beyond anything the world has ever seen or known, so the race comes to bid for their favor, stroking and growing elf egos.

In terms of politics, the elves come from lands ravaged by magic gone too far, threatened by thirsty gods, and attacked by all manor of unsalvagable creature. To them, the atrocities committed at Nanking and Unit 731 might look Chaos corrupted, or it might look normal compared to their Hellish world, depending on where in Hysh they Isekaied from.

Dungeon Meshi is definitely very nice I bought the set not long ago. I wanted more of the Canaries, the elf team of dungeon explorers, but all the extras does help scratch that itch.

Another recent favorite would be Uncle From Another World. I wouldn't rec anything isekai especially these days but this one would be the exception. The MC has returned to his world after 17~ years and recounts his adventures and companions to his nephew. Its very comfy. A pleasant mix of some satire on the tropes of the genre and straight fantasy. One could both love and hate the MC. Pic is a fanart of the Elf he spends considerable time with. She is a strong fighter and her skillset is quite nice, the developments of the heroines of the series also gets a nice bit of focus from time to times.

oooh, nono. Her Gladebottom family treehouse is pretty clean and also has no archery range. Her dad comes from a farming family and her mom is a provisioner so if anything, there are farming sheds and maaybe a small farming tool repair workshop. Everything related to trade, cooking, tidying, diplomacy, logistics, maintenance and joys of capitalism she learned from her ma~ and pa~.
However, the house of her dearest Uncle Doey Bogleaf is a dump and she spent a lot of her free time with him doing all the wood elven swamp things she is doing now in campaign to survive. I haven't had the will/time to finish it so I only have sketches of it. Uncle Doey is a hunter/trapper who sometimes enjoys brewing moonshine and his psycho wife dabbles in plants, poisons and weird culty esoterics, so everything related to survival in the woods and combat prior to campaign, she learned from them.

Complete lack of urgency when your family member and dear friend is being dissolved alive by stomach acids gives me such big tonal whiplash it ruins the series for me. As you know I run that A5E game so the Bard works differently, honestly I feel it's more interesting. Actual mechanics where the bard can easily adjust what type of instrument/art they are focusing on and each augments their spells. That and the Battle Hymns, giving them another use for Bardic Inspiration to more actively buff the party.

But I have sad news. I've lost my only (half-)elf. Friend who plays the Wizard just is not doing great atm, and while he was having fun and found the party had improved overall he had to bow out.

This puts me into an... awkward situation though. That side-quest is going great, they dove right in to the mystery aspect of it and I could tell the monk player really enjoyed that aspect. They hadn't yet "entered" the dollhouse, but had just discovered the way inside. And so now my friends Wizard is sitting there in the room, having just used Detect Magic and discovered important information. And I now need to find a replacement. Four players isn't impossible or anything, but they now don't have a non-divine spellcaster.

this thread is probably not the best place to ask for drawing advice, but the need to fill in the portrait on the character sheet has gotten me to try my hand at drawing

You gotta think about what is character doing. Nobody just "stands with a sword". Functional thinking will help your poses make sense. Right now, your pose suggests too many things. The sword is almost in a guard, he is heavily leaning on his right leg which looks almost like a movement. There are a lot of contradictory things. Establish a purpose for the pose then emphasize it.

I think I remember a bit of sword dueling lore as it were. That rapier duelists were all young dandies who would also likely die young as when the rapier stabbed either it would probably go through guts and other organs for a painful death. Saber duelists being older men of a stronger build with lots of scars across their arms and upper body from slashing. So some scarred up arms might be suitable.

Whichever you think they would likely be when they've entered an age of industrialized power, where every elf life is precious, and if dueling to the death isn't outright banned lol.

from the perspective of the elves, the elven warriors running around with swords and arrows instead of filing income tax return are holdouts of a bygone era and are seen as weirdoes at best, constantly running off to help the humans and dwarves with silly quests or petty wars instead of embracing the future that is middle management
but for everyone else with human lifespans, these elven warriors have been around since their ancestors were still banging rocks together and they dont look like they are going anywhere
only those who have spent time in elven lands are truly aware that they are actually a dying profession

although i would guess that they still need to maintain a small reserve of armed forces to prevent themselves from getting embroiled in the eventual spill over from the constant conflicts of other kingdoms and elves would have enough of a long view of history to know when diplomacy just wont work
so warriors who still know their way around a sword and wizards who still know fireball instead of summon-arcane-accountant would be needed to maintain the institutional knowledge of tactical combat

Yeah that sucks. Once you are skipping several sessions, you might as well pull the plug entirely. It's better to leave and start something new than trying to keep a dead group running.
You can ask the eager and active players if they want to start something new with you.
Though, that doesn't make you a no-games. Many players have their occasional breaks, which can last weeks or even months.

Or they get to the point of politics to try and resolve or manipulate others just to keep trouble away from their affairs. Diplomacy won't always work, but you can cut a dying tree just so it falls away from your house.
