Died and got brought back to life with a mission from a god. Details of the mission... unclear. I know it has something to do with the guy that killed me, and that I agreed to this mission in return for revenge, but my memory has been pretty fucked up ever since I woke up as a revenant so it basically comes down to the GM just dropping me a note saying when I feel like something is related to me divine mission or not.
I'm pretty sure that I am a deniable asset being used by a god thats not supposed to be interfering in the mortal world and thats why I am on a need to know basis as to what the fuck is going on.

My first: an orc with a heart of gold who seeks money for his family.
My second: a lunatic elf who gets high for adventures.
My third: seeks to avenge his family for the horrific abomination that killed them. He goes from place to place looking for information and clues to her whereabouts.

I just think its a stupid meaningless question and I don't get what point people are trying to make when they ask it
The actual answer is no the creation of the thread wasn't necessary to any degree but someone thought it would be an amusing topic for a thread so they made it
obviously

Current character? He escaped a prison-garrison with a note detailing a separated map to a secret relic that promises immortality. Even if it's bunk, the adventure alone would be legendary, and the reward easily worth it.

Same, but also he overheard that the quest recruiters needed help and he's a good boy that thought it could also be an opportunity to learn society and make friends. Objectively weaker than every other party member, but he had enough heart to somehow earn a respectable reputation as a neutral ambassador between factions.

What's retarded? I just want someone to explain to me the logic behind this 'needed' angle
The board is peppered with threads that don't have reasons they 'needed' to be posted. So what? Its people talking and amusing themselves about things they want to, like this one

He had a psychological break one day, decided to fuck off from his plot of land, pick up a sword, and start; raiding old dungeons for stuff, taking on quests for gold, and spending lucrative sums of money on food and booze and whores like the soldiers in the stories.
Since then however he's become incredibly worldly, no longer finds pleasure in raiding and whoring, and has been doing it long enough that people don't call him a pretender knight anymore.
Now he quests to right wrongs, inspire the downtrodden, and defend the innocent, because life is too shit to not take action against, and he's past the age of deluding himself with such petty indulgences.

Her Hive is struggling against other, stronger Hives and the Queen isn’t as young as she used to be. She was sent on a mission with other Mimics to go to a strange place called the Hollow and find relics of a forgotten era which can be used to help her Hive not just survive, but thrive. She’s on a need to know basis, and deep undercover, and also kind of doesn’t want to be here but she can’t fail the Queen. She takes the form of a goat manafter she killed skinned ate and turned him into a skinsuit

>nobody who answered the thread topic got responses
>the only discussion came from some retard who can't admit the thread is only here to make /tg/ look more active to advertisers, not to actually generate discussion, and some nihilist who seems to think his opinion should be valued contradictory to his nihilism
You want to keep lying to me, or are you just going to stew in silence while bumping your shitty thread whenever it gets to page 10?
Because I know you'll never admit the truth.

Hi anon, OP here. I'm home with the flu, and I was rewatching Brancaleon the other day in bed, where the screenshot came from. I thought it was pretty funny, and made me wonder about the goals of some of my previous characters that I've run. I should have formulated the question better, but I was running a slight fever and just made it.
>nobody who answered the thread topic got responses
Some were fun, some silly, it's all good
>make /tg/ look more active to advertisers
I don't care either way, the thread will die when it dies. I and I would have earned just as much money if I'd never made it
>You want to keep lying to me
You sound mentally ill. I hope you get better, but you probably won't

My futanari lady knight's primary goal is to ensure her fief is safe. Her secondary goal is forming a harem by sexually taming women (and some of them were once villainesses) and adventuring is a pretty good way to do this.

He doesn't "adventure". He's on a mission from his chivalric order, and sees it (rightfully) as an endeavour to be a more respected, powerful and rich noble, with a side of "doing the right thing" against the heretics.
More or less this is how all the "party" works, altough some members are there more for ethical reasons.
It helps that this is not dnd, actually, we're in an historical-ish game.

I love Brancalonia, the art is great, the setting is perfect, most of the races are good. The classes are a little lackluster, but fun. But I don't care for 5e at all, and I really wish they would have gone for their own system

He was an earnest honest farmboy with a lot of magical talent, wasted by getting pulled into the kings war. Instead of becoming a wealthy wizard he backed a battle hardened Artificer, using scraps of magic trash like expended wands & a filtered spell component pouch to keep the men in his squad alive in a war that did not care for them. After the war he couldn't find peace on the farm so he set off with some strangers to adventure & in his mind he would be helping others & changing lives to make up for the atrocities he witnessed.
That didn't last long.
He is now pulled into a war of divinity & again scrapping together ways to keep himself & his party members alive. As God slays God & an evil festers in the shadows of time itself the young man has bolstered his mortal frame with enough magic & enchantment that he's actually now a living biological human construct full of magic power, constantly upgrading himself & his armory. & building an army of golem & homunculi. He also has a demiplane with some people he saved & may actually eventually need to reboot the world with Noah's ark style.
So he is adventuring now because the stakes are too high, he has to win for everyone's sake. If he makes it out alive he wants to settle down & retire to his demiplane farm+workshop with his wife

She wanted to follow in her great-uncle's footsteps and become the Royal Historian, so she has traveled to Candlekeep to take advantage of the resources there and takes on the odd adventure while there to get some practical experience, keep her martial skills sharp, and to compile a thesis based on her own experiences so that she can be considered for the position.

I have been thinking of trying to convert it into another system, and Swade seems like a good fit. Been reading Tales of Argosa lately, and wondered if that would work, need to turn down the grit pretty hard though

The Bloodhunter wants revenge
The Rogue wants revenge
The Ranger is going overboard on his coming-of-age adventure, because he grew up poor
The Wizard just wants to feel something again
The Warlock wants to collect stories because he thinks it may hold the key to severing the connection with his patron

Lifestyle thats no longer viable in our times. Travel around, doing exciting things to getby, meeting and exploring unknown cultures, all the while forming a vlose bond with teamates thats kind of your family.
Bonus point for fantasy/scifi setting where you can include stuff that we can only dream of. Its really quite sad when you think about it, when we dream togheter, we can foul ourself that our fantasy is more real.
People have many different answers because they look for different things, still its about the way of acquiring it though candy-coated vagabond lifestyle.

The fighter survived a goblin raid and has a burning hatred of them.
The priest just wants to help everyone.
The ranger got bored and wandered off for adventure one day.
The dwarf wants good food
The lizard thinks he can be a dragon.

My crew (during some Oracle rng generated missions [learning to play]) took their brand spanking new B spec excelsior class on a shakedown cruise, responded to a distress call, and failed to spot or realise they warped right through/into a temporal anomaly, chucking them back in time to circa cestus 3 and the gorn hegemony starting attacks on the federation. They handily defeated the gorn, rescued the space station
(caught in a temporal anomaly as a side effect of the fucking gorn retards using tricobalt subspace disruptor warheads to breach the defences ez pz, dumbasses, warp cores and ticobalts dont mix, lizards)
They flew away, big damn heroes, and upon breaching the barrier of the anomaly, got chucked not back to thwir own time, but flash dumped all them chronitons and tachyons their vessel was 'charged' with, which spat them out circa ds9 s1.
They spent a year in debrief with their (still brand new) excelsior [hasn't been in service for 50 + years like the others in the fleet] up to uss lakota specs, serving as the tested for what would become the lakota refit package for the class. All the while they learnt what they'd missed, re-trained /cross trained and updated their skills to new tech, saw far flung descendants and dead loved ones graves etc...
Whereupon they went on a 2nd shakedown, which was far more successful and were assigned to the narendra station joint task force for its exploration of the Shackleton expanse.
Their mission, to prove the usefulness of the class, to make sure starfleet doesn't decommission the excelsiors any time soon.
They're a crew out of time, in a brave new world, and they will boldly go where no MAN has gone before, by God, mister! In the best traditions of the service.

>Orzhov Cleric, personality is inspired by Quark from DS9, Charles Winchester from M*A*S*H* and Booster Gold from the green lantern corps.
>In a church of shady merchants
>mediocre at business
>pretty good at the whole fighting cleric thing during guild on guild brawls, but obsessed with being good at business, Willie Lomax style
>decide to try my hand at Machiavellian intrigue
>my carefully constructed plans all fall apart in an instant when the ghost council in charge of the Church gets Yaas Queened
>The assassin ends up in charge of the guild because if I was a council of deathless lawyers that's exactly how I would make a guild, I mean it just makes sense doesn't it yes I'm mad
>my position is in shambles, take out a second mortgage on my soul, buy a sweet +1 holy symbol and fuck off before the news that I'm persona non gratta reaches the merchant
>The DM tells me that I'm dead and have been brought back by a death god type thing to be given another chance on his campaign world, if I help the party do their shit
>decide I didn't QUITE make it, and was given to the demon worshipping murder clowns who run our world's entertainment industry so they could deal with it
>slowly finding out the lifestyle suits him, even if he whines about being away from civilization, even though the family he's loyal to is back in power.
tl;dr Jew half elf fucked up a power play and took it up out of sheer desperation.

Generally speaking I don't give my PCs deep or complex motivations. If I play a Paladin, it's just being on a Mission From God to do Good and smite Evil. For most other characters - usually fighters or barbarians - it's that adventuring is semi slightly more socially acceptable than banditry and it offers a semi slightly legal avenue for murder and bloodshed.

I'm happy for recommendations, but I don't quite see the connection with Acks and Brancalonia. Acks, from very light research, seems like OSR fantasy Conan with a hint of Hackmaster. Branca is more like low-budget Italian spaghetti-fantasy movie in ttrpg form
