I wish I could be a Greatsword Justice Champion without feeling like I'm being gimped out of my actual reaction. With the super shield focus the class already has it leaves me feeling so limp dick.
>>
>>97621332
Too heavy to be one-handed, all the Paizo staff tried to wield one and needed both hands.
>>
>>97621362
You don't need a shield to use the Champion reaction. And there are options to stack damage on Champion, like using Deity's Domain + Weapon Surge or Smite.

I wanna joke about how having a staff that is constantly pumping estrogen and onions in their veins explains everything, but I remember the old "mouse flail" situation which was years before HRT hit the nerd space like crack. Paizo always were a team that would swirlied by the Revenge of the Nerds squad...

I never seen this filter before, hence why I ran headfirst into it twice.

As for a real question, the Daredevil and Slayer playtest got me thinking what does make for a Class Archetype, at least for 2e standards. 1e was very open about letting CAs change the whole class and mechanics, to the point it was unrecognizable from the original class. 2e so far been a little more conservative with its CAs. While I don't think Daredevil and Slayer would fit as CAs for Swashbuckler and Ranger, it does get me questioning what makes for such.

So I know if paizo did it, it would be a level 16 rare magic item, but let's say I want to give PF2e Alchemist an indirect fix via equipment, maybe as a level 4, 45 gp piece of gear to spitball it. How's this sound conceptually? idgaf about fluffing it rn just how it works
>A wrist-mounted, free hand elixir launcher
>it takes one action to load a normal elixir, and if you have quick alchemy you can use it to directly create the item into the launcher
>one action to shoot it at an ally within 15 ft (25 ft if you have far lobber)
>no roll to hit, that shit just fucking works
>a clause that lets you just shoot yourself with it if you want, so you use it to can pre-load something and 1 action pop yourself with an elixir to save an action on drawing it if you don't have plans to use it on an ally
>there probably should be a greater version, or magical shit you can add to it, but fuck if I know right now
>>
>>97623108
>an item
Just make it part of the subclass, increase the range as you level
>>
>>97623118
if I had my way it would just be part of alchemist's options regardless of subclass, but making it an item feels easier to trick whiny bitches into finding palatable because of "muh power budget"
>>
Paizo sucks because they don't allow great masculine heroic acts anymore like finding a cute kitsune boy and then letting me snuggle and hug and kiss and fondle him until he lets out cute moans. It's all woke garbage now
>>
>>97623118
>>97623131
The problem is that every alchemist fix is an item instead of innate. Collar of the Shifting Spider is a clear example of that, that resolves the Mutagenist action econ but that's a Level 5 item. Alchemical Atomizer is basically your idea but that's literally a L10 Rare item.
The last thing Alchemist needs is another item people don't know about.
>>
>>97623151
Yea fair, this was a compromise with some bitching I saw but I'm going back to putting my foot down and saying "just build that shit into the class itself". Hell you could cram it in as a level 3 feature because Alchemist for some fucking reason doesn't get jack shit at level 3 anyway. Call it Chem Celerity or some shit.

Daredevil amplifies all the issues with the "every +1 matters!" design Paizo has for PF2E, as in, +1 bonuses fucking sucks.

How many fucking feats and spells are "YOU DO THIS VERY COMPLICATED THING... to gain +1!"??
what is wrong with them.
>>
>>97624933
I always figured that they should have at least one more bonus category, mainly bringing back the Morale one for emotional effects. But I think the mindset you have isn't proportionate, or at least shrouds the issue. It's mainly how many actions that are simpler have more impact that leads into the perception problem, not +1 bonuses themselves. Some of them even provide greater rewards, like just tripping someone.

A clear issue with the Risky tag and Daredevil in general is how little gain it can provide. If they want to keep the idea going, they need to make sure EVERY stunt leaves a debuff the foe can't easily clear. A +1 bonus to the action itself is fine, but you are right that doing something like a stunt should leave them in a far worse condition if you gonna ask me to do shit with MAP.

>gm kills me but group manages to reviveme immediately with breath of life
>gm tells me that for me it passed weeks in a terrible dark place between here and the other side full of ghosts screaming so I have ptsd and what not
>I decide that whenever I'm at low HPs I flee
>gm gets mad and calls me a coward
so maybe I'm autistic or retard but when is what a gm says just filler I should out right ignore and when it's important character development?
>>
>>97625239
Your GM is retarded, unless there's extenuating circumstances the reason lorewise why Breath of Life works is literally because your soul hasn't had enough time to physically leave your body yet, there's zero chance or reason why you'd have some "oh it's been weeks" nonsense unless he's just saying those are your mind's death throes and wasn't actually real.
>>
>>97625284
the "weeks" thing was for me, they revived me in a round but for me seemed like weeks on a horrible place
>>
>>97625364
I know, that's why I'm saying your GM is retarded. Your soul, canonically, didn't "go" anywhere, and it certainly wouldn't have felt like weeks. Everything about Pathfinder mechanics implies that the soul of a mortal sticks around their body for about a full minute before starting the process of "passing on" to somewhere else, so like I said unless there's something VERY specific going on that goes out of its way to hamper or target the souls of those who die within the area you're in that "weeks" thing should not have happened in the first place.
Unless that was just him trying to hint to your party that something funky was going on, and that hinting was his intent, he's just being a retarded edgelord and trying to make your character have PTSD for no reason.
>>
you ever pick a feat or dedication or archetype just for the lore/plot, even though it barely works with your build/character's mechanics?

I have a kitsune psychic who's backstory is that her powers come from a sealed entity inside her, kinda like naruto even though I hate naruto and my GM said she was naruto and I wanted to fucking kill him.

So we took Living Vessel Dedication, because even though she's using the entity's powers somewhat safely, we really like the idea of the entity fucking with her.

For a psychic, Living Vessel Dedication is fucking useless and dogshit, and kind of weak as fuck too, but it's really funny when it's abilities trigger and we hid it from the table until my character fell and the entity took over, and led to really funny shenanigans
>>
Should full plate armor cap your dex bonuses at 0?
>>
>>97627248
Yes. The idea behind plate is that you're dumping DEX so you can put your stats in something else. While pajama DEX tanks can get better AC and saves than a guy in plate at higher levels, it takes way more commitment. A plate armored martial, meanwhile, can still hit reasonably hard and hold the line for a respectable amount of time, and would have higher health to take the hits that make it through their armor.

slop mass appeal sci-fi is really annoying to create plothooks for because everything is so solved and annoying

LANCER has a huge issue with this because the setting has a literal super communist hyper AI that plans for everything so the galaxy is always at relative peace
>>
>>97630610
I feel like they did the same with PF2e
Moving the timeline forward and resolving all the APs and resulting changes in the world, they got rid of all the conflict points and didn't replace them with anything
The same thing also happened with Mystara getting updated to ADND 2e
>>
>>97630721
It was definitely an issue for a good number of years, but the Godsrain situation DID added a bunch of new plot points. Maybe not *enough* and the specifics can be annoying (Lindworm Kings or the death of the Osirian Gods), but there's plenty to work with nowadays.
>>
>>97626062
Multilingual (Free) Archetype
Almost never came to play because all the NPCs spoke Common, except for some Ogres.
But I felt good when I could insult back in Necril Shadows that attacked us.
>>
>>97630721
>they got rid of all the conflict points and didn't replace them with anything
It's hard to create situations of conflict in a fictional universe when you're constantly walking on eggshells out of fear that you'll offend someone.
>>
>>97630845
that would actually be really useful in the campaign I'M playing because the GM loves local culture and different languages. We're currently in a city where only one of the party members speaks the native language and we need to keep walking with her to speak to people

What plot points did the Godsrain add? I don’t remember any new CG lesbians getting added as demigods. I know they described the Godsrain as this huge shakeup where monsters start cropping up all over the place but, I mean, they haven’t *done* anything with that. They could’ve made a monster hunter AP or something about an Inner Sea nation destabilizing because of some Mythic 9 Kraken but it never happened.
>>
>>97632092
The most interesting one to me is the idea of the Starstone eating people. It or the chapel it is resides in appears to be drawing people in to force them to undergo the test, or just outright killing them.
Most of the changes are less about *monsters* fighting the nations so much as the nations themselves fighting each other. Stuff like Cheliax vs. Andoran, Arcadian warlords gathering power, potential strife between Oprak and the dwarves. I think Paizo mostly wanted the excuse to either have more war stories or walk back some of the more major resolutions, like Lastwall having to fight MORE undead or Galt undergoing ANOTHER boogaloo. They did leave some room for major monsters like the demons wanting to reopen the Worldwound, but I can at least agree the lack of one central antagonist(ic force) over doubling down on the political crises of each nation makes it hard to care or play along with. You have to like the nation, like the conflict they could undergo, or hope that the end result creates more plot points than it resolves.
>>
>>97632354
The Starstone plot sounds like the god-rock wants somebody to become the next God of War. I’m personally surprised they didn’t reinstate the goddess that god brained by it back in the bad old days, but whatever.
>Paizo going for war stories
What’s sad about this is that there might’ve been a time when I was excited for this. Who doesn’t want a good Us vs Them? But the truth of the matter is I don’t actually care about any of the nations anymore. Paizo’s big gay efforts to make the Inner Sea worked. Taldor is ruled by Hillary Clinton, Andoran is ruled by Kamala Harris. Why would I want to side with any of those countries? They fucking suck. I don’t care about any of them and they could bleed each other to death for all I care.

Question when repairing an item, do you use the base lvl of the item for determining the dc or do runes or other things increase the lvl?
>>
>>97633015
GM has final say on the level, but it appears you use the level of the item as is, not base. So a maxed out adamantium greater flaming vorpal sword will be harder to repair than a standard blade.
>>
>>97633024
Ok, was looking into playing a Champion for a future campaign and was trying to figure out the best way to repair my shield. Probably just going to have to convince a fellow pc to repair it for me. Since upgrading the reinforcing runes over the course of the game will quickly make the dc to high since at best my guy would be only trained in crafting.

Any thoughts about recent Paizo and OnePageRules collab?

Basically, new monsters/npc from Paizo STL distribution will be also getting wargaming stats for OPR. I believe most of the work will be done via Titan Forge.
I've personally had a very long pause from RPG and diverted my focus to wargaming, but this feels like a good moment and direction to go back.
>>
>>97634948
This sounds like a fun way to tie in to OPR's new solo/co-op game mode to play with your casual friends. Get them to paint up a character and play together without the investment into a huge army on their part.

I like it.
>>
does anyone actually *like* Golarion or Paizo's artstyles?
>>
>>97625239
It depends on the GM. Yours sounds like he's being pretty arbitrary in his style. It could be you're not being very interesting in implementing this fleeing thing though. Like it could quickly get to a point where you're like "ugh, anon took a hit again and he's going to run away and we'll have to finish the combat without him and go baby him through rejoining us when it's over. This has happened in the last 6 combats, I'm getting so sick of this, it's so repetitive."

Is there any way to have paladins cast spells as before without making them too powerful? I think it sucks they just have their focus spells and that's it.
I'm thinking maybe getting the cleric archetype to get a few divine spells should be enough, but at the same time feels weak and constraining; I've also considered giving a paladin full cleric powers with the same spell slot per level progression but that really feels overpowered

Haven't seen much talk about Apex items. Most likely because parties don't reach the level when they start appearing. But is there any reason to not get an Apex item that boosts your offensive stat? Like Thaumaturge's key stat is Cha and Commander's key stat is Int but I feel like it would be more beneficial to increase Str or Dex depending on your weapon of choice. Maybe I'm missing something.
>>
>>97638584
Not really. Apex items are, as a rule, for your key ability score. They're basically the same as the +stat headbands/belts/etc from 1e/D&D3.5. There's some edge cases where you might chase after an apex item for another stat or maybe go after a particular item's ability, and there's always the chance that you just get one from a dungeon and decide that being slightly suboptimal is worth saving yourself 17k gold, but those are all outlier situations.
>>
>>97638596
I realized I totally didn't answer your question, my bad. Yeah the hybrid/gish(ish) classes were what I was thinking of when I mentioned edge cases. I'm not familiar enough with Commander/Thaum to comment on them. For what it's worth I was thinking of a weirdo Scoundrel Rogue/Sixth Pillar build as somebody who might split their Apex item and their KAS.
>>
>>97635166
Wayne Reynolds is a great artist, the rest are meh at best
and no, I don't really like Golarian. It's got some fun parts that can be used as the base for your own stuff but that's it, and increasing the tumblerina content isn't improving it. including so many trans, gay and non binary (whatever that means nowadays) is flagrant pandering to people that do not actually play PF
>>

Whats the easiest way to increase your AC as a monk with ABP rules? GM changed from normal magic items to ABP (plus other changes) and I got hit the hardest by these changes. And taking into account I was already falling unconscious between half and 1/3rd the encounters I don't feel I can continue if I dont get bonuses from other places
>>
>>97640022
How were you hit the hardest by the changes? Were you getting gear like normal and just completely spending all of it on defensive magical gear? If nothing else, you should be getting the bonuses to Armor, Natural, Deflection, etc, all on top of getting two stats to AC plus options like Barkskin via Ki. At that point, the only thing you're really missing is a Shield bonus, which most monks never get regardless.
>>
In 2e if I play a wizard with a multiclass archetype that gives me access to magic from a different school than Arcane, for example Witch with a Baba Yaga patron, can I then learn occult spells through Learn a Spell? The learn a spell activity states "If you can cast spells of multiple traditions, you can Learn a Spell of any of those traditions, but you must use the corresponding skill to do so." which makes it seem like you'd be able to, but maybe only knowing 2 cantrips is a bit flimsy.
>>
>>97640374
You can learn occult spells, but can only cast them through Witch spell slots.
>>
>>97640022
Buff spells from allies (those Owls Wisdom and Cat's Grace give a nice boost to AC for monk), or going fight defensively line of feats(with Deer Horn Knife in offhand), or similar style feats.
>>
2e
Should casters get some "heighten-only" rank 10 slots?
>>
>>97640022
Use Magic Device. If you're playing a monk without UMD, you have only yourself to blame for your failures.
Wands are always DC 20, which you can reliably hit at level 3 even without optimizing. Failing to invoke a wand doesn't eat the charge. Mage Armor and Shield are both SL1, as is Protection From Evil or Shield Of Faith, which ever you prefer.
That's +10 AC right there, straight up.
If you're already high enough level that your passive Armor and Shield bonuses are higher than +4, then you should already have enough practice with the game to understand Fighting Defensively and Crane Wing

Just getting back in starfinder after an over year hiatus. We built up characters with a bunch of equipment and abilities, backstory etc. I've heard 2nd edition really streamlined allot of the more annoying stuff like armor class and actions. how accurate is this for SF2e?

>Aballon is I, Robot (2004 movie) after successful machine takeover.

>Eox is run by the Forsaken (Warcraft). They also had the Lord-Marshal's Necromonger Fleet (Riddick) "break off" in protest after they made peace with the rest of the system.
>Triaxus is half Shadowrun (Dragon politics edition) and half Diamond Dogs (MGSV).
>Liavara has a singular gas mining station extracting definitely not Argent Energy from the gas giant under its inhabitants' strict and secure oversight.
>Bretheda is gas giant off-brand Noveria (Mass Effect).

What are some good monsters that pair with the Cloaker's engulf ability? I'm building an encounter around a gigantic sewer cistern that is meant to be a solid one-two punch of, "grapple and poison" or, perhaps, grapple and knock out. I think you see where I'm going with this, monster synergy and all that. I've been eying the Giant Leech, but maybe there's something else? I could go for an ooze, but that doesn't feel symbiotic so much as parasitic since it would hurt the Cloaker as well.

Giant rat would be rather cute, I’ll have to go for that. Undead are a no go right now because this is a custom setting where Necromancy hasn’t been discovered yet. Magic is still relatively new and monstrous creatures are treated with the same caution and interest as, say, Xen fauna from Half-Life. Frightening new invasive species.

The encounter is meant to occur within the entrance into a secret organization’s base. The monsters are meant to be dangerous, but designed more for debilitation while sentries come over to pick up the (now weakened) victims for experimentation. Their experiments are what will lead to Undeath, but I’m holding off on throwing a proper undead at the PCs for a more pivotal moment in the story. Might throw some “halfway” enemies at them like a Flesh or Carrion Golem, though.

As for the setting, it’s a very heavily inhabited city, analogous in climate to the Near East, Byzantine era. Giant scorpion could work, but the walkways are only 1 tile wide so Large enemies would be an issue.

Here's the map itself, or at least the part that would be this particular battlefield. I think the rest of the map will be easy to populate, but I'm hitting that ole DM snag where I need to figure out what I want to do at the start of it. The visual I'm getting is that the Cloaker snatches the prey, rolls into the water, and lets the Leeches take care of them while getting out to snatch more and do the same. A vicious technique. One eats the flesh, one eats the blood, and maybe I could find something that eats the bone too to really complete it.

Yet, that's also the thing; this is the first fight of the map, and I don't *really* need to make it as intense as a Cloaker fight, right? You know what I mean, you don't put the big monster at the start. So I could go for something other than a Cloaker - a Water Weird, for example, which would make more sense as an elemental sentinel for a base. But then, of course, if I want the PCs to get the drop on the organization than having a big messy combat with lots of shouting, sword swings and splashes wouldn't do that. Might be better to go for Violet fungus clusters, maybe an Ooze that slowly crawls along the 5-foot walkway forcing PCs to either go one route or another - or risk the water, where the leeches are.

Gosh, see how much thought goes into DMing? I love it, but I hate it, but I love it still.
