I used to really enjoy drafting on Magic Arena. At some point I can't quite put my finger on, it feels like match-making algorithms, the shuffling algorithms have changed, and now the Arena client more closely resembles a slot-machine than an organic game. This is entirely paranoia, but I am one of the believers that the Arena client will intentionally pair you with stronger opponents (possibly bots) and will intentionally brick your draws when it is your turn to lose. (On the flip side, sometimes it will be "your turn" to win, so you get an easy opponent and the opponent bricks). I think we have all had the experience where we draft what we think is an amazing deck, only to go 0wins-3losses, or drafting the most medium pile of cards and getting the full 7wins. But more and more, it feels like drafting on Magic Arena is just a coin-flip, none of your decisions matter, just sometimes you win the slot machine, sometimes you lose it. For that reason (amongst others), I've stopped drafting as much on Arena recently.

I'd put up a wallpaper first, so that there's little risk of permanent damage and easier to remove if you want to later. I'd also be intentional about card frames so you have each wall/section matching.

I found out one of my favourite "MTGO Vintage cube" streamer has started making Slay the Spire 2 content instead, and finding success with it. It makes me happy seeing in not forced into playing Magic.

I remember carefully going through all the different artwork while buying my cube. Carefully choosing what I thought was best for each individual card. For example I went with Rebecca Guy's elvish piper instead of the dude with the bag pipes. I carefully chose my favourite artwork for counterspell. I went through the artwork and while some looked a bit silly or outdated every one of them felt like magic. Somehow over 20 years they'd kept a semi consistent art style even with reprints etc.

Now we come to Leech Collector. A literal LA fat black chick staring open mouthed at a leech. She looks like a cosplayer rather than an actual mtg card. She has a look on her face of exaggerated joy. Who is she showing this leech to? Does she often just grab her bottled leech and hold it up smiling mouth agape and hand out? Was the leech running free and she just managed to catch up then is celebrating? Why is the green accent on her cloak so bright is it glow in the dark paint? Why are her teeth so straight do they have dentists in fantasy times, or is it just that the modern diet ruins our teeth? She sure looks like she has a modern diet anyways.
