Question about supports, and, before I go further, I did watch videos but I would like your input/tips: I have been using autosupport for structures on Lychee, it’s led to some damage of the figures details (Pits, chips, etc)
If I’m printing say, figures in pieces, (arms, legs, heads) how many supports do I truly need? Now I will say I understand with bulky or heavy models you need to have better supports, but if I’m printing smaller figures, or their details, say like a blade or staff, what would that look like?
Also, side quest question, what kind of snippers should I use? Because mine I’m assuming aren’t of good quality.
Attached is a pic of latest print, came out well, had to learn about scaling after, well, you see his little brother.
Plus, printing today, if all goes well I’ll post follow up pics if anyone wants, any info/critiques are welcome.

>If I’m printing say, figures in pieces, (arms, legs, heads) how many supports do I truly need?
Probably not as many as you think, but its impossible to give you an answer that is valid in general. There are so many factors to consider, from the file in question itself, to your resin, your lift speed, the age of your fep etc.
>>
>>
>>
>>98115339
Try manually supporting if you want an answer to your Q. Start with something infantry sized; go bottom up, hit every island that pops up with your smallest support size. Replace/supplement a couple of those supports with your next size up towards the bottom as anchors (shoot for the soles of the feet; if those scar, you don't have to care). Add a couple more supports here and there where you think the model is going to get stressed while printing. When you think it's enough, it probably is.

There was this rather nice leman russ model on makerworlds by two goblins in a coat, sadly GW takedown seem to got it down and I foolishly deleted my file after printing it, if anyone got it could you throw into some archive to share around for those who would like to use it?

Despite having shed warcraft a long time ago, some of the designs are still pretty cool. So my vampire lord got a tier 8 helmet and a runeblade, and the necromancer got a goat skull hat like in wc3

And then you look at the models and it's obvious slop. Their buildings have non-sense design with hinges on both edges of doors.
This gets 2.5k pledged on KS. Are people blind or just tasteless?

We had the discussion in one of the last threads, about STL pricing. These guys stuff is pretty cheap, because its simplistic and AI made. Thats okay in my opinion.
pic related is $2,50.
I've seen "hand" sculpted STL files with worse Gnolls, for higher prices.

Here's the other two kits in the line so far (the junior command squad is part of the infantry kit). The ogres will be done this weekend. The next two kits are a monopose command squad with commissar that will be absolutely pimped the fuck out, then a combat engineer squad with a caught defector with a suicide vest.
Then a one off recon squad based on the Podhale Rifles then a full army again of Space Cossacks that will be an attempt at tackling the super fleshed out regiment of the Lucky 13's who have a single piece of line art in a single codex.
>>
>>98129078
nice, I like it when regiments or factions like these make it to physical in some form
Also do you have any pics of the death cult elf guards printed?
Or do you know if they are compatible with evil space elf plastic arms?
>>
>>98129101
I have a picture on my Insta. I wouldn't know desu never owned an Eldar kit.
Also, as you can probably tell, I never quite got the elf lines to work fully. I have a timetable with my current projects and will do a mega elf kit that will essentially just be one single kit with EVERY permutation for an Elf infantry model in a year. Like 15 torsos, 20 leg options, weapons out the ass, etc it'll be cooler than buying those.

Perchance for some reason isn’t working for its image to 3d thing.

Ah that's a shame, I've already got a couple of forces derived from nuCadians and I'm a gigantic autist about scale consistency. Might grab the core set anyway and try printing the arms and heads a smidge undersized and see if they fit the nuCadian bodies, a little sculpting work to add the longer coat with the trim shouldn't be too big a job for a kill team's worth.
>>
>>
File: 1775955450191808.png (367.0 KB)
I love Bestiarum, but sometimes they suffer from too much detail.
Look at the crucifixes on her shoulders and the potion vials on her belt. This is impossible to print at a minigaming scale.
>>
File: Scale demo.png (1.2 MB)
>>98133193
>>98133200
I was curious myself so I found some scans online for a size comparison. The torsos are like dead fucking ringer BUT the legs and arms are about 0.5 to 1mm short.
I also have the scale tism and is why I chose the scale I chose. I would like to warn you, the trim on the coat is hard sculpted into the model so extension of the coat would be uh... tedious. You would have an easier time negating the scale issue by upping the size to 105%-ish or just padding out the base a TINY bit or you could stetch out the feet and legs ate tasteful points by a pubes width and game it.
Not offended either way. I'm not financially reliant on this in any way, though I want to be one day, but I also understand armies are personal art projects that have a certain vision in mind from their creators.
You know what? Fuck it. I'll drop an A frame guy on cults later tonight (Australia) so people can see if the scale works for them.

Sometimes? Their stuff looks great on the render pics, but its pretty much always too much detail.

I know both of them, and several others like big mr tong or onmioji miniatures, who is probably one of my favourites. i just thought it would be a nice contrast to show a sloppy AI picture of the same miniature, just in the style of the 90s handsculpting, but with the design of Bestiarum (which really are top notch)

The code nonsense is just retards thinking they're in some Super Sekrit Spehsul Klub and they're geniuses who've outwitted the mighty James Workshop, when the reality is that GW Legal have an intern who searches for keywords and issues a bunch of takedowns once or twice a year, and also defeated the Great Satan who was Reportanon, some twat who liked to submit copyright reports to Mega etc when the reality there is they simply got bored for the moment because they're just as capable of chucking the string of gibberish into a search engine that will tell them it's Base64 or Rot13 encoded and point them to a decoder site.
Security through obscurity is a myth, and the best defence is spreading stuff so widely that there's always someone willing to reup it when it's inevitably taken down.
As for cults & mmf, start by searching for broad and generic terms like "40K" and hopefully one or two things will pop up that have the currently fashionable non-trademarked comedy name creators are using for your chosen faction, Angry Space Bumboys or whatever, then you can find more stuff by searching for that specifically.

does anybody know creators or ranges that make classic dwarfs? By classic I mean older sculpting styles. big noses and beards and winged helms. Ornate rifles and animal cloaks. Pickaxes and crossbows. Kegs of beer and woad-tattooed berserkers.
I know there is a metric crap-ton of dwarfs out there but I'm been playing lots of Total War WH3 and I miss the old dwarfy look. I'm just hoping you guys can recommend a creator or point me in a direction based of your experience.
Avatars of war have some cool models that kind of what I'm looking for, but the hand sculpted stuff is plastic only and I don't think they (nor would I want to pay for) them to ship to East Asia. They have printable files for sale but they're noticeably different.

AI is already making everything dogshit now. The thing is there really isn't a fence sitter and most people are generally against it because it simply looks bad. We're hitting a saturation point where it can't get much better. The industry speedran the entire leap that computer graphics took over 20 years in about 3-5 years at a similar overall industry spending cost. Now they're hitting hardware and phsyics limitations.
The shit that was already posted in this thread is quite likely 95% of what the AI will ever acheive and it looks like shit still. Is there tons of manmade shit? Yeah, but it was made for like 1 trillionth the cost.

Any recommendations on a dremel tool or other small, handheld device that I can use to quickly sand small bumps and ridges on my resin 3d models? Some anons here believe it cures internally better post-print, other anons here vehemently believe this is physically impossible, but even those haven't stated any reason not to use clear resin.

Long shot but does anyone have the norse dwarf army by Varus Miniatures?
I mentioned this last thread >>98057789, I pledged for them as an add-on in his new dwarf KS, but it's now been over 8 weeks since payments were taken and he hasn't made any communications or updates in that time, he hasn't even logged into KS since the project funded. Turns out he's been working on a trench crusade project on another KS account all this time. Multiple backers from the dwarf KS have messaged him on other platforms and he promised he'd post an update "soon", but that was over a week ago also. In the meantime it seems he's been promoting his trench crusade stuff at the UK Games Expo.
So if anyone has seen these dorfs on their travels I'd be greatly obliged, before I resign myself to a long weekend with tripo3D. Cheers anons

This.

If you can't read 1-2 threads back, and find out the most basic information at all.. if i would post a download link, you would beg about how to use it.
Then you will ask about supports.
Then you run into printing issues, for sure, and you will beg to get spoonfed more.

Anons is resin good enough for some “utilitarian” stls?
If not would resin be good enough for something similar like a hobby knife replacement cap?
Im not looking to make a gun and I don’t think resin is durable enough for something like that.

I generally plan to print miniatures but I can see myself needing to print a replacement craft knife cap due to my nature of misplacing things.

Nta but what’s the best Linux compatible software like lychee unless I missed that it is compatible?
>>
>>98154940
Lychee on Linux is a pain in the ass. I'm currently using an older version of ChituBox (they currently don't support Linux).
Lychee takes an extremely long time to start on my system and connects to its DRM server on each startup, even on the free version.
MMF's upcoming slicer might work, but they haven't commited to Linux at this point, so it's a Catch 22 (Linux user are less likely to invest if their system isn't supported, they are less likely to support Linux investors don't ask for it).
Prusa Slicer offers some resin slicing on Linux but it only supports a few printers.

Orca Slicer works fine, as does Cura, but they are only usable for FDM.
You can use PrusaSlicer to support your minis, export the whole supported plate as a STL and print that with another programm but that's somewhat tedious.

So has an idiot proof Linux compatible stl preparation software come out yet then?
I don’t really want to mess with wine or other programs to make windows stuff work.
They most often don’t work or are often full of bugs.
Unless it is proton but that is mostly for vidya games.

ChituBox 2.3.1 works well enough, including the network features of modern printers.
I tried to use Wine for the current version, but that didn't work as well.

The pleasure of being different even if it is mostly a negative fuels me and my dopamine receptors have been reprogrammed to give me loads of pleasure when anything gets working properly.
Therefore I must stick with that Linux.

What kind of cheap table should I get from Amazon to support a printer and a wash and cure station?
I bought and assembled one and a sort of gut feeling tells me it isn’t enough.
It is one of those black computer desks.

I was thinking of commissioning a print of that renegade marine. However, as blasphemous as it is, I'm not a big fan of the chainsaw hand. Are there alternative space marine hands that start from the elbow?

>and expect them to know every ai slop program out there
That's actually very easy.
There are none as AI doesn't exist yet, none of these algorithms being fraudulently referred to as "AI" possess any form of intellect or consciousness, nor any other of the subtly varied attributes which constitute an intelligence.
The difference between all of these programs and say... the random map generation algorithm of any 90's pc game is one of complexity.
There is no AI in existence.
>>
>>98160880
actually, words don't exist. What people call words are actually just letters strung in a sentence. The only difference between a word and some random assortment of letters is one of complexity. There is no words in existence.

Is it worth buying a used resin printer?
A used electronics store in my country has listed a used Elegoo Mars 5 Ultra bundled with a wash/cure station for €275, with a 6 month guarantee. I can't inspect it in person as it's across the country and I can't be assed to drive. I previously bought a used ender from them which turned out fine, only needed a hotend swap. Advice???

>>98163080
>for €275
You can buy a brand new high resolution resin printer for less than this, and unless you REALLY want to print more than 4-6 32mm scale figures at a time that entry level printer will be all you ever need (until it breaks down).
This isn't like buying a used car, it's more like buying a used fleshlight.
Don't.
>>
>>98163170
I'll just get it delivered. Only mentioned it because I can't really inspect it beforehand which is the main concern
>>98163209
Yeah, figured as much. I was just wondering since resin printers have a lot more consumable parts than FDM, and I've only ever bought used FDM printes and been fine generally
>>
>>98163251
>a lot more consumable parts
This is my individual experience only, but I had one go for 3 years needing only FEP replacement every 2-3 months and at the 3 year mark the UV bulb array in it burnt out, instead of replacing it I upgraded to a higher resolution printer as it was only 2k resolution, entry levels are now much better.
With the 4k/8k printers you can get now there would be no reason to buy a new one rather than replace the uv bulb array or lcd panel when one goes bad.
