Have you ever read an actual book in your life that wasn't gay Japanese comics?

>like magic being female
>or women being better spellcasters
Simps are some of the most well known fantasy authors. Fantasy worlds are not written to be masculine. They almost always assume women are superior magic users. Look at Dungeons & Dragons (particularly the Forgotten Realms). Look at Dark Souls and Elden Ring. The magic is always female or some feminine force. Even in Dune women are (initially) the best at their witchy shit for thousands of years.
This is a consequence of writers being male and wanting to see women as more magical and special than they are within fantasy. Even though men were the ones poking at the mysteries of the world. It’s a form of projection. “Oh my god nature is so beautiful it’s like a woman!”. Fuck off.
>>
>>
>>
>>98138813
Its an attempt to justify female characters involved in the adventure and not have the entire cast be a massive sausagefest. We have limited ability to just handwave and pretend away the realities of melee combat, but magic can work any way you want it to so making it a female-dominated sphere is no less valid than a male dominated one. Its the path of least resistance.
>>
>>98138813
This is happening for crass commercial reasons actually. Most readers of fiction are female so if you write a realistic medieval setting they get mad. The common solution is to go "uh okay men are still physically superior but women are better at this completely made up mystical horseshit" which obviously, if you think about it for five seconds is incredibly condescending, but it works and allows the fantasy women to be "equal" to the men. Which is tantamount to saying that equality is a fable, of course, but that doesn't seem to occur to anybody.

>>98138823
OP has not read manga either since those are filled with overpowered male mage protagonist. He probably saw this in a video or a meme like all zoomers do while never engaging with the original material.

Seriously bro, where are you getting this "women are better at magic" shit from? Like 95% of the well known magic users in western media are men. Stop watching Sailor Moon and playing Gayshit Impact, bro. You've got severe brainrot.
>>
>>98138813
It's actually way simpler than that. It's difficult to write women being injured without it coming off as misogynistic.
Think about it, have you seen any recent fantasy story where women get hideously mutilated or mangled on-screen? Maybe Game of Thrones, but that was only for big ugly warrior-woman Brienne, most other women die very clean deaths or get hurt 'off-screen'.
So this means that the solution is simply to make women so good at whatever they're doing, they don't get hurt. Because otherwise, why the fuck are you taking a woman into combat? They're terrible at that.
Like look at Wheel of Time, there's no indication that the Maidens of the Spear are better fighters than men. And if women weren't channelers, why bother? There's a SINGLE female non-Aiel fighter, and despite being a legendary hero she's average at best.
>>
>>98138826
>Look at Dungeons & Dragons (particularly the Forgotten Realms).
Elminster? Khelben Blackstaff? What are you talking about, anon? Sure, the deity of magic is a goddess, but it's not exactly like the top-tier wizards of the setting are overwhelmingly female. Dragonlance has 2/3 gods of magic be male, and the most prominent wizard in the setting is probably Raistlin.
>>98138989
This is true for those settings where women are superior spellcasters, though. And of course it's also true for the more numerous settings where magical ability is just sort of gender neutral.

>Fantasy worlds are not written to be masculine
explain REHs settings
>>
>>98138989
This. It's like, if women aren't good at magic, what ARE they good at in a combat situation?
Hell even 40K highlights that the Sisters of Silence, the super-elite Talons of the Emperor...are mostly there to back up the Custodians due to their pariah aura. If not for that, there would be no point to having an all-female force that is demonstrably worse than men.
>>
>>
>>
>>98139293
40k has the benefit that for all of its fantasy baggage, it has guns. Men still have a lot of combat related advantages on the battlefield with modern/future firepower, but the importance of brute physical strength and longer reach is vastly, vastly reduced once you can just point and click a guy to death. Once guns get involved, you no longer need magic to justify why a woman can be part of the adventure because a woman who is a good shot with any kind of firearm can be contributing member of the team without issue. "But I have a penis!" isn't a compelling argument on the wrong end of a 12 gauge shotgun.
>>
>>
>>98139243
>Who is fucking Harry Potter?
A very interesting example because it throws a lot of wrenches in OP's view. Harry being male, most of the characters being male, and yet certain things like flying brooms and witch hats and cauldrons being all primarily connected to women historically, which explains why there would be a female connection to magic in other stories anyway
>>
>>98139264
There was a trend in action movies and tv shows in the 2010s to mix in some women with the groups of anonymous goons who all get unceremoniously killed by the hero during action sequences, and it was always tonally jarring. Using women for roles like that just doesn't work, the human brain rejects it on a deep subconscious level.
>>
>>
File: 1726018945081366.png (153.1 KB)
>>98139386
There are of course individual exceptions, and fantasy settings with energy weapons changes the equation, but on average women have worse aim, slower reaction time, and are less able to absorb recoil than men are on average. Furthermore, even though it doesn't affect the act of aiming and shooting itself, women on average have lower strength and stamina, which means they are able to carry less gammo/gear and can't travel ar far as quickly as men on average. In a war, both these things are hugely important.
Don't get me wrong, guns DO level out the playing field substantially... but nowhere near COMPLETELY.

Witches and oracles wernt doing real magic, faggot-kun. The oracles were high on drugs all day, and "witch" was just an accusation thrown at any woman (and some men) who deviated too far from the societal norms of their time.

Throughout real world history, most religions had a goddess of war. War itself was female. Even greek mythology had Ares was competing for the role with both Athena and Aphrodite (who people forget was a war goddess because she started off as literally just Ishtar and slowly had to her portfolio sanded down over the course of hundreds of years)
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>98139467
It has also been proven repeatedly, in actual modern scientific studies, that men on average adapt to the social structures needed for group cohesion in war and combat environments much quicker and easier than women, and maintain that cohesion much better.
>>
>>98139494
You’re about as retarded as the people who claim that throughout the world the moon is more feminine than it is masculine, or that magic is more feminine than masculine, when this isn’t actually the case.
>>
>>98138826
>Dune women are (initially) the best at their witchy shit for thousands of years
Because they actively kept men out of their secret organization. There was nothing physical or metaphysical that prevented a male from enduring the spice agony and gaining access to other memories. The weirding way and the voice are also not exclusive to females. The Bene Gesserit weren't "better" at spooky shit, they were just the only game in town (by design) until the Kwisatz Haderach showed up.
>>
>>
>>98139494
>Ares was competing for the role with both Athena and Aphrodite
Wrong. Ares was the god of war as such, Athena was the god of clever strategy Aphrodite was no longer a war goddess at all by the classical period, but Astarte/Ishtar was a goddess of *strife* – not of war as in battle but war as in discord. Which was basically because she was the goddess of female traits and characteristics.

>Norse seidr comes from earlier shamanic practices from Siberia
I’d love to see a single source on that. Everything I’ve read on it says that the origin is unclear.
>It was seen as feminine
That’s the only assertion being made. Regardless of why it was the case, the fact is that we have histoical belief structures that associate the use of magic with femininity. They weren’t doing it because they were sexless nerds or because they were woke feminists or anything like that—it was simply what they believed. And, since most fantasy draws from myths and folklore, it’s hardly surprising that we’d see such themes crop up.

>Look at Dark Souls and Elden Ring. The magic is always female or some feminine force.
That really depends on which magic your talking about.
>Dark Souls pyromancy was invented by a coven of witches - pretty firmly female oriented
>Sorcery is mostly nerdy dudes trying to unravel spacetime with some specific forms of magic being defined as feminine, like moon sorcery
>miracles lean very much towards men, between Gwyn's thunder and the Way of the White reps being mostly dudes - again we see some specific miracles attributed to women but the big names are guys usually
I'm not sure Elden Ring has too much to trace off of for stuff like this but:
>dragon spells are just whoever the fuck can kill dragons and claim their hearts, most dragons are dudes I guess?
>Marika is responsible for most of the traditionalist miracles so I guess you could say female focused but between Goldmask and the blind guy their present reps in the game are often dudes, plus Marika is Radagon
>fire incantations are born out of fire giant magic - masculine
>Carian sorcery is a mixed bag; the head of the Carian Academy is a woman and probably the most powerful sorcerer in the game is her daughter Ranni, but there are loads of powerful men too, including two who got so close to some esoteric truth they turned into living crystals
>Rot stuff is debatably feminine I guess?
It's really not cut and dry.

Seidr is practically indistinguishable from shamanism you retard. These people are being taken over by the spirits; the Norns; through altered states of consciousness, soul-flight journeys, spirit helpers, and symbolical tools like the Volva’s staves and chanting. This is likely due to historical contact with indigenous groups in the region, like the Sami. The Norse regularly interacted and traded with the Sami, whose spiritual practices involved classic shamanic techniques. Norse magic absorbed traits from Sami noaidi (shamanic) traditions. Ecstatic states of mind are universal to shamanic traditions worldwide. The movie ‘The Northman’ by Robert Eggers had a pretty accurate scene of a ‘cave witch’ (shaman) having a prophetic, submissive, trance.

>>
>>98140405
It's not necessarily "drugs" exactly but the prevailing theory about the oracle of Apollo at Delphi is that she was suspended directly over an ethylene vent (the "pneuma" or breath of the god mentioned by many authors of antiquity) to cause her to prophesize. By the laws of the sancutary, he priests of Apollo were only permitted to induce her prophetic trance once a month, and Plutarch says the pythia was always exhausted by it at the end and that each ekstasis shortened her life.

Yes...? Is this your first time realizing that humans come to the same or similar conclusions? Hermetic alchemy and Taoist alchemy both arrived to nearly identical conclusions as well. Inner/outer alchemy. Concepts like theosis and henosis are pretty much the same despite having barely any linkage. Seidr is most definitely a form of shamanistic logic. It's all rooted back to animism, which is arguably one of humanity's oldest beliefs. That the world, nature itself, etc, is alive.
Not everything needs to be packaged neatly into redundant little boxes to the detriment of shared and overlapping essences. There's shamanic elements in Pentecostal Christianity and Buddhism too. Speaking in tongues, Glossolalia, and mediumship are quite identical.

Not really. No. Both value equality, and women will take on male aspects, and men will take on female aspects, to balance them out. Frequently men are the ones who resort to combative shamanism. A bit further south, in Mongolia, it's mostly men who are the war-shaman.

>According to the lore of Elden Ring women are smarter and could see the moon.
Rennala saw the moon and created lunar sorcery, but that just makes her one outstanding sorceress in a line of many, and there are plenty of forms of Sorcery that aren't from the Carian house like the gravity magic which is heavily associated with Radahn (who was holding the end of the world off by himself while he was completely mindless). Plenty of sorceries associated with the Carians don't even have anything to do with Rennala, like Gavel of Haima.

Athena as war goddess was partially the result of Athens gaslighting everybody who came along centuries later and only had majority Athenian literature to go off (her original form is wisdom and helper to heroes, the goddess of cities, but she was much less relevant before the rise of Athens, Mycenaeans didn't have much to do with her for example). Ares outside of Athens, meanwhile, was a very widely known and venerated god, of oaths and justice/retribution as well as war. Even in Athens, Ares was still their chief oath god, and anybody who was going to be a soldier of the city had to swear the ephebic oath in his name.

>>
>>98144252
Lovecraft in general didn't have the same sensibilities regarding women as other authors did(because he was basically asexual) so his stories rarely featured the common trope of the horrible monster and the damsel in distress.
Instead, funnily enough, he found the opposite more disgusting, of a man willingly tainting his own bloodline. A woman getting ravaged by a monster is one thing, but a man willingly embracing one for the pursuit of power, willingly tainting his own humanity, is arguably worse.

>Think about it, have you seen any recent fantasy story where women get hideously mutilated or mangled on-screen?
I don't watch TV, more into books.
And in books very much so.
For example in The Way of Shadows which I listened to the audiobook of like a month ago, not only were women in general brutalized just as badly as men, but one little girl of particular ongoing plot importance was disfigured in painful gruesome detail. And it wasn't the kind of story where a wave of the hands or whatever can fix that level of damage. She spend the rest of the story disfigured after just barely surviving.
Though it wouldn't surprise me if film is more sanitized around such sensibilities given the ideology of people in mainstream media.

Magic IS female coded, one of the main characteristics of magical thinking compared to scientific explanation is how magic can cause an affect without there being a physical medium linking cause and effect, i.e. the mage lifts an object on the other side of the room without touching it or using an intervening physical medium.
The closest thing to magic in real life is the ability of women to charm men into feeling and acting in a certain way without the need of there being an intervening physical medium linking them.
What is a synonym for spell? A Charm.
Magic is quite literally charming reality into doing your binding, it's an inherently feminine way of interacting with the World.

Men are more charismatic than women tho. A lot more charismatic than women, actually.
A woman's charisma influences a man, a man's charisma can influence entire nations, which is a lot closer to magic than anything women do.
Yes, I am saying Hitler was a wizard.

Have you ever been around a woman? They are NOT charismatic in the slightest, it's literally entirely stupid monkey brain lusting after them. Once you nut all the "charisma" the woman had is instantly evaporated.

If Lovecraft saw how the next 80 years played out, he'll realize his opinions were too optimistic and generous.
