Yes I know they are
But for a plastic model company just threw the towel (I don't mean that literally revell is still making model kits) like that just a bit jarring
Did the whole snap kit thing just not work out?
If anything having to use knife and glue might be big turn off at least with snap fit you don't have glue any more.
Like bandai is still making billions so what went wrong with revell?
Maybe military kits just not selling anymore? Revell needs its own OG IP??

Today, in the local library I saw Bootlego electronics/education sets. Those things are usually based on original lego sets, but this one was unlike any other education set I've seen. It's hard to describe it, because it wasn't like any other WeDo or Mindstorms hub. The motors were connected through electric "dots" at the top of the hub. The motors connected through "cross" dots. Sound bricks - 2 dots. The hub had several LEDs on the side.
Does anyone know what it might've been?

So trying once again since the thread did get deleted when the jannies deleted all those threads by that one anon:
What I am in for with these apparent KO from AliExpress that retailed there for about $2 each?
If you look at the pictures, they used stock photos, thus these looked liked LEGIT mechs from LEGO, although the listing did have the 'compatible' language disclosure and never once used the words LEGO.
I ordered this Venom and Thor since those are discontinued.
Are these going to give me Chinese cooties?
Will they crumble the first time I try to assemble them?
Is there something better I should be buying, that's cheaper than LEGOs? What I am after are just MECHs, I don't really care if they are Marvel, DC or SW, and would probably remove stickers if it comes to that.

Chink bootlego has become pretty decent in the past years. It won't be that far off from actual Lego.
>Will they crumble the first time I try to assemble them?
Unlikely.
>Is there something better I should be buying, that's cheaper than LEGOs?
All the pieces get sourced from the same manufacturers that make the AliExpress listings. All "official" offbrands will be the same.
The biggest difference with these is mostly in the building experience and QC. You'll get all the parts loose in one bag and probably have to scan a QR code to get the instruction which will look like shit anyway. Also missing pieces are common with such vendors.
>can't I just download the Lego instructions for the set
I've had instances where the build is altered ever so slightly from the original, I'm guessing because the bootleggers didn't have a mold for a specific piece and had to use an alternative, so I was forced to ise the horrendous instructions they provide.
For the price they're worth it if you don't want to pay Lego's unwarranted premium tax.
>>
>>11701992
Thanks. Yeah, I figured I would try to use the instructions. I ended up buying that same Venom Mech on eBay for $5 new, in the box, so it will have the instructions. Seller's box got pancaked and no one is willing to buy it. I figured if anything is cracked, I can easily just replace it by taking the box to the LEGO store in Glendale and asking them for help. I hear they usually give you the piece you need. And I have plenty of receipts that they won't look at closely from a recent purchase if they ask, which I am told they won't.
But thanks for the insight. I might just buy some huge bags of blocks from AliExpress next time.

Good to see a new /pbbg/, been a struggle already to keep /amg/ going this time of year. Have built a number of the latest Sluban offerings including their adorable M2 Bradley. This one however is another story entirely, not sure of the brand but they've been putting out the odd tank model here and there, previously with rather small instructions on a single double-sided sheet; this time they splurged on a proper booklet and no wonder, given the piece count of 1872, plus decals. They've gone with what Sluban tried for a while, with peel-away backing after applying.

Doesn't include any figs so here's a Mega CoD-style guy and a Sluban soldier from their Bradley set for comparison. Was a pretty satisfying and enjoyable build, though I want to complain a bit about the decals. Several of them ended up being across several pieces and the instructions overestimated the length of those on the sides. This style of decal is very unforgiving if you make a mistake too, resulting in a couple less than ideal applications. Of course they're entirely optional and the model stands out well enough on its own.

Top of these two looks good, but it's kinda too beige; works really well in a desert campaign, so if that was the idea and you can otherwise make it work with what else you have - or what else they sell, it's a neat thing. No idea what /amg/ is - Army something something.
I like the small figure that articulates, that definitely sets it apart from the mini-figs. I wonder if people who buy and play with and do display with 3" military soldiers would ever combine their stuff with something like this Bradley?

This >>11701992 is pretty accurate. I got this 2000 piece starcraft building for $100, and there were a few missing bits and some of the pieces are less than perfect, which meant clicking everything together was sometimes a little challenging.
But to have a whole set that doesn't exist of one of my favorite things instead of bricklinking the parts for $400 was great, and the quality issues were minimal. I guess I'm saying the very minor QC issues which don't matter once it's actually together are well worth the significant price difference and availability.

>Revell doing bricks as well
I have the Cobi Tomcat, coincidentally also Top Gun licensed. It's got a lot of issues like the unpainted canopy bracing, no retractable gear and missiles tend to fall off but I don't feel that compelled to get the Revell one still. It looks stupidly huge too. Way more detailed and accurate but it too doesn't seem to have fun features. For all its issues the Cobi set is rather fun to play with.
Speaking of which, this is the one aspect no Lego competitor seems to be able to get right - play features. Hell, even Lego is currently lacking in that department. All brands are focusing on displayable models. Only one that leans more into play is Lumibricks. Why can't toys just be toys, man?

I would argue that Sluban takes a dual approach, which some sets more play-worthy while others favour details and more complex builds. Their current military line reflects this with having a stream of each philosophy - pic related is from the play side with firing guns, simplified build and single-piece rubber treads.

Thats impossible because lego got the spongebob license back, you probably saw old sets releases. All Viacom licenses are dropped by Lego's competitors because they cannot pay the amount of money Ellison wants for them but Lego is willing to do it so they have the licenses under their belt, sort of like having all infinity stones so competiton won't have it, thats why they do anime like one piece and yugioh now too.

Dunno if we will get other Nick IPs at Lego.

According to Megaarchive on Reddit, we are getting more Hot Wheels sets this year, along with additional Masters of the Universe sets. Some of these will be display sets, like the Power Sword and Battle Cat in that style, though not remakes of those, while others will be playsets and vehicles. One of them is said to be a Fright Fighter. We will also be getting new Halo sets in the fall to coincide with the remake.

Preliminary leaks, please read the following. These images are from a 2024 mega document publicly available online, though I’m not currently willing to share this link myself, there are others who have the ability to do so and can at their own free will. The images are not to be taken as evidence that these sets are releasing, more so that the sets are cancelled, most likely.

MATTEL BRICK SHOP IS A SUCCESS
>ITPS gross billings fell 10% in the quarter, which Ruh attributed to continuing strategic exits in Baby Gear and Power Wheels and exits in preschool entertainment, with Fisher-Price declining modestly. Ruh said action figures performed particularly well, driven by Jurassic, Minecraft, and WWE. He also said building sets grew, supported by what management called a very successful launch of Mattel Brick Shop, and games grew primarily due to UNO, which achieved its tenth consecutive quarter of growth.

My "brick compatible" marble mech's arrived from Ali Express; pretty decent for free shipping from China ordered on February 5th and paying essentially about $2.50 for each one. I think the cheapest I might have gotten something like this on BrickLink would probably be $8-10, without instructions and without the Mini Figs. And the MFs are definitely there, I can see Thor through the cellophane and the stickers are already on everything.
Probably won't get to build this until a week so who knows if these will combine into something, but I'll report back - not that any of y'all care.

Brand loyalty is nothing new. With Lego, I think a lot has a lot to do with sunk-cost fallacy. You think about the thousands of dollars spent by some collectors (possibly in the six digits), they feel as if they have no choice but to double-down when presented with evidence that seems to devalue their collections.

9 to collect including the ghostly sniper variant. The listing implied you're guaranteed 1 of each of the 8 main figures, which I understand to mean that you may get one or the other of the ghillie suit guy. Judging by the different moonrunes per fig they each appear to have their own names, suggesting more depth than usual for a set like this.

After selecting a box at random (and according to yandex text recognition and google translate) we have "intelligence agent" Yu Dong... no comment. His card has a wall of chinese text on the other side, presumably describing his early life, military service, social credit status and burning hatred of all things western and capitalist.

While it is disappointing that they continue to use the same weapons and gear sprues of their earlier series, the overall quality of the figure has markedly improved, especially with the addition of a nice paint app to the face which is of course the main selling point of this new wave.

Have an early start tomorrow so unfortunately won't be opening the rest just yet, but here's a closeup of that face; imagine red glowing eyes and it's got some real Terminator vibes.

You ordered these from Ali Express?
If so, how are these so near minty?
Did you pay for shipping to get them to arrive that un- "dinged" or does your Uni Uni driver just love you?
You leave out tea and cookies for 'em?

Out of curiosity I had to check out the fore-mentioned backstory, which reads as follows:
>The unassuming yet crucial intelligence agent, Yu Dong, majored in cybersecurity and intelligence analysis in university, graduating with excellent grades. Afterward, he smoothly entered the national security department. Throughout his career, he participated in numerous major intelligence missions, accumulating rich experience. Due to his exceptional intelligence gathering and analysis abilities, he was recruited by the "Ghost Special Task Force," becoming an indispensable "information brain" within the team. Skilled in disguise, he can utilize advanced technical means to analyze and integrate collected information, providing accurate intelligence support for the team's operational planning. Like the team's "eyes" and "ears," he silently protects the team from the shadows, making significant contributions to the success of every operation.
Have to say I like him already, and since it's become almost traditional for Chinese to adopt a western name alongside their given ones, I think we'll go with... Richard.

Yes, AliExpress and it was free shipping. Guess I was just unusually fortunate with this one; a box of army men that came the same day had been squished some, no casualties on the inside thankfully but was a near-run thing.

Well pray for me, I'm getting my second shipment from them hopefully in about ten based on it clearing custom slowly (probably their NY celebration). My first one was badly squashed.

My condolences, best wishes for the next one. Generally I've had no problems with uniuni or dragonfly deliveries; sometimes the cheaper corrugated cardboard boxes are more susceptible to rough handling.
Another member of the squad emerges: Deng Baochuan, Medical Staff.
His backstory:
>During an operation against militants, he went deep into the front lines, fighting continuously for dozens of hours under heavy fire, saving the lives of many soldiers. This led to his recruitment by the "Ghost Task Force," where he became a key figure in protecting lives. In combat, he always stayed close to the team, constantly monitoring the safety of his comrades. Whether dealing with gunshot wounds, blast injuries, or sudden poisoning and infection, he handled everything with ease. Under his protection, many teammates were able to return to the battlefield, making him one of the most respected and trusted members of the team.

The third to emerge is Lin Yi, Course Participant(?)
>As the team's strategist, he possesses not only exceptional combat skills but also a remarkable strategic mind. He is meticulous in his thinking, adept at analyzing situations, and can always quickly formulate the most rational battle plan in complex battlefield environments. He wears a black camouflage suit made of special nanomaterials. This suit not only blends perfectly into the darkness but also possesses extremely strong impact resistance and defensive capabilities, effectively resisting attacks from small arms. The surface of the suit has flowing, dark patterns, as if containing endless mysterious power. When he moves through the shadows, he is like a ghost in the night, silent and difficult to detect.
On reflection, "course participant" sounds pretty cool.

One more for now: Yun Fan, Main Attacker
>Born into a military family in the north, he trained in military camps from a young age, and through perseverance and a fervent pursuit of military knowledge, he successfully entered a top military academy for further studies. After joining the special forces, he accumulated rich combat experience in numerous high-risk missions. His fearless and daring style on the battlefield led to his selection for the "Ghost Special Forces," where he became the vanguard in attacking and breaking through enemy lines. His primary weapon is a heavily modified assault rifle with a lightweight design for easy maneuverability during rapid advances.
It's occurred to me that this set should seemingly be an affront to strong Chinese superstitions around skeletons and ghosts... I suppose money talks in Mandarin as much as any other language,

Thanks. That BLK box is quite sturdy.
I got some roll back white porcelain bowls for my breakfast cereal, made in china, dirt cheap less than a buck a piece and they look very nice, the box they came in was cheap, clearly recycled many times, corrugated cardboard all in Chinese, and that was put inside another snug, better box AND that was put inside one more.
Very Russian Nesting Dolls - but not one scratch.
Walmart is probably as evil and rapey as Bezolandia, but their customer service is far better and I seem to get less damaged crap from them. Sadly, I heard from a small merchant that the specific model kits I want will never be officially sold in the USA but he's going to order them so I'll just support him and get my future packages from him, and stick to getting my knock offs and things like CT Toys from Ali Express.
I feel bad for people who order electronics from them.

Chinese ZBD-04 IFV, from a recent Sluban wave of modern Chinese armour. Nice enough build, not really awe-inspiring but functional - kind of like the Chinese army as a whole.

Had to return a coffee cart from 5Below, I thought I could spruce up as a meeting place for action figures on a street diorama but once I got it home, it looked too junky.
They now have actual LEGO and still have the same 'brick' copy cats they always carried and then some. But this was actually a pretty big store. They even had stuff I never noticed before, like a Spy v Spy living room brick set and other weeb brick mixed stuff like that.
